Material used around the camera lens? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Anyone know if the "ring" around the back camera is made of metal or is is chrome painted plastic?

Looks like chrome paunted plastic. Seems like the weakest part of this well made device

Yes that was my concern when I saw it. It will suck if it really happens.

Transparent back cover?

Hey there, I currently have the white S3 and I'm wondering if anyone knows where to get a transparent back cover to replace the white one that came with it. That would be awesome.
No idea but yeah, it would be awesome XD

HE is from Cleveland, English is like a second language there, so give him a break. how is he supposed to know the difference between back cover, and.. whatever he thought the rest of us are talking about?
you can use the samsung ultra slim covers just without the battery door of the phone, works well. tried it right now.
Closest thing I could find.

It isn't completely transparent, though. Just the outside edges.
You guys are hilarious!
Its a shame that there isnt anything like this. It would look so cool!

I fully agree.
well, there is the one guy that made silicone molds of his back cover, and then made a real CF one... perhaps he can be perswaded to use his molds to make clear ones from some other material?
I think it would look cool but it would also get severely dirty and/or yellow

Well I already fear that my original white back cover will gain that effect anyway, not too worried about a transparent one doing that.
I have a smoke coloured TPU case that looks pretty good. The picked it up on Amazon for 7$ish

and at that price, who cares if it yellows over time.. buy another.

worst case scenario: ad a LITTLE heat (like a tiny bit at a time) just to soften a tiny bit, and then push it closer to the battery. not too much, so you don't melt anything.
here my, it's a Box Wave case with no back cover. i don't use it much cause the power button is to stiff and the side grip feel like sh*t
I remember back in the day, those clear candy bar shape phones with the flashing lights inside was all the rage lol .. these phones just dont look as cool inside lol

Camera film protector?

Is there a flimsy film on the camera lens that needs to be peeled off like on the S4? I can't quite tell and don't want to mess up the camera, but it looks that way...

That could be it. I always tell them not to. I don't like waiting long and I love the feeling of "unwrapping" a new phone lol
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using xda app-developers app
I honestly still can't tell if there is a film on it still. The rep did take off all the plastic. The lens glass feels smooth when I run my finger over it so it looks like there is just a ring that is not plastic. When I got my s4 I didn't realize it had a plastic cover on the camera for a few days. Loving this phone coming from the s4 except not sure the camera is as good overall.
I doubt there is still a protector on it if you haven't found it yet.
Such is life

Aluminum Bumper

Most cases are made of some weird rubber, either they feel cheap or they get stuck in the jeanspocket.
Some cases look great but they always tend to build so much bulk..
Has anyone tried an alu bumper like this one? Looks great atleast..

It looks great yeah but 35 dollars is too much for just a case which is why I didn't buy the official one. If it was a battery case for that price or even a little more like 45-50 then it would be worth it for me

With battery cases like this. You will lose a bar or two on cell phone reception as well as wireless. This was the case for the Galaxy S4. I believe you will lose the function of NFC as well.

How protective are aluminum cases though? I feel like TPU/plastic combos would probably protect the best since it absorbs shock better than metal.

Thought they had a $5 off coupon....
Why does that one bottom corner stick out like that? I'm guessing that's how the case clamps together. Seems like it wouldn't feel very nice.
Yeah not bad, but I'm not a fan of Florida sticking out of the corner there. Always making a mess of things!
Also with it being an Aluminum bumper, I'm pretty sure it's aesthetics only. That's a relatively soft metal, especially with how thin is looks. Any real bump and it will probably dent/scratch easily. It's like using a thicker version of the HTC One as a protective case.

I am holding off as well. Even with the screws, not sure if it'd fit in my Seidio holster without scuffing the crap out of it. However whenever I visit this thread and look online at the pics, it seems unbalanced to me because of the screws.
Waiting for feedback on the aluminum bumper. I'm interested to find out if the bumper keep the back of the phone off of surfaces. It looks like it wouldn't protect the back of the phone at all.

Update added Dbrand Skin....Stripped my Black Official Bumper Case

I bought a black official Google bumper case but it started peeling almost right away. I wasn't able to RMA it because I wasn't the original owner. So rather than have a case that was degrading over time I decided to strip it right down. Here are the results. I might still order a skin for the back not sure yet. As you can see it's glossy and still has the Nexus logo. If your wondering I used just my fingernail to scrap it as I didn't want to damage it with a razor blade or any chemical. Added Dbrand Skin see pic on second page.

Thanks I might get a skin for the front too. Not sure. I kinda prefer having the skin on the case though since I get a similar effect but my camera is recessed. The one thing I don't get about the Nexus 5 design is having the camera stick out.

Anyone notice when you're using the phone without a case, and.....

You're using it one hand, and squeezing the sides decently tight, the screen just like herks and jerks for some reason, as if there's some sensors near those spots of the phone, and you're messing with frequency patterns or something.
Ex. Use the phone without a case, one hand squeeze the bottom sides of the phone while scrolling up or down on the browser, and tell me how annoying it is to use. Then do the same thing with a case, and tell me how drastically different and smooth it is. Like night and day.
Wtf is the issue with this phone? I'd love to use this phone without a case, but you can't!!!
