Bounty thread for internation (H850) port to H830 - Potential sim unlock method - T-Mobile LG G5 Guides, News, & Discussion

This thread is a bounty to get a proper port of the H850 framework. This will allow us to enjoy all the feature of the H850 on our H830. Personally I am hoping this will make unlocking my G5 easier because we should be able to obtain our unlock codes (I already have mine) and do it the standard way. But understand when pledging that is only a theory and no guarantees.
If you pledge please pay up once it has been achieved.
As always this port must be something the average user can flash. Once it has been achieved we will discuss with the dev(s) on how/if they want to receive their donations.
So far the devs I know of are @autoprime and @Miustone
Pledges:
jkhan49 - $25
liushangrong - $50
Total: $75
Decided to sell my phone so I removed my pledge but I'll keep updating it for you. I got impatient after a month an a half.

Hey buddy $25 from my side too..

Updated ☺

Can anybody help me T-Mobile sim unlock method ,$50

I suspect we have a CM ROM, will be able to use the key to unlock. The system determines the network lock tips?

Yeah cm should work too I would assume as long as it is properly ported.
I updated the OP and removed my name since I gave up and sold my phone. I will continue to update this is anyone else wants to pledge. Good luck everyone

If you had your TMobile LG G5 for a month and half, wouldn't TMobile unlock it for you? What happened?
I'm keeping my G5 for 40days and then trying to unlock it, so I was just wondering what your results were.
Thanks

You would think but even after FCC complaint and having T-Mobile office of the president call me saying they really want to unlock it but it isn't showing up on their system and they have tried every method they have... After spending 65 dollars in cellphone service and getting no where I caved. Good luck... Never worked out for me

The same thing happened to me and a lot of other people. My IMEI wasn't showing in their system so they said they couldn't unlock it. Don't listen to them. Lodge a complaint with the FCC saying they REFUSE to unlock your phone then contact Jennifer (information is below). I found it in another XDA thread. I got a call back in a few days (you have to be patient) from a Dianne who said they would escalate the issue and OVERRIDE it in the system to unlock it. Later I got a call back saying to retry the unlock app and it worked. You have to be past the 40 days of service though. I'm not sure why it didn't work for the other guy but you have to be persistent and don't take no for an answer. Be polite but persistent. By law they have to unlock it.

Were you rooted when you used the app to unlock your phone? Cause mine is rooted.
Just wondering if I need to remove root for the app to work?

I used LGUP to reflash the stock ROM temporarily until it was unlocked because rooting it after the unlock does not remove the unlock SIM unlocks are permanent no matter what you flash to the device since the unlock is stored on a separate chip than the system. It shouldn't matter if your rooted but I would reflash stock to be sure. Also, I SIM unlocked to get AT&T but AT&T really sucked on it, I never got a single drop of LTE and I even went to the AT&T store and called their customer service many times and the phone was definitely set up right (APN, preferred tech, ect.). It may just be my area though. I'm back with T-Mobile now because it's much better than any other carrier in my area. I spoke with Diana at T-Mobile for the unlock.

Hello
What if You change the IMEI number of your LG G5 H830 TMOBILE phone to a "good' IMEI - that has been allready Unlocked with TMOBILE , and than run "DEVICE UNLOCK" app on your phone ?

Hello nkhater
Thanks for the tip .
It will not work because it will fail/blocked in TMOBILE SERVICE ?
I pictured the whole process like :
1) The "DEVICE UNLOCK" app , send the IMEI # (faked one) to the TMO server
2) The Server will check to see if the IMEI number is not blacklisted / etc
3) Since the number is Eligible to unlock (it has been unlocked before) - the server will send GOOD respond to the phone
4) The phone will be unlocked (for good)
5) then - I'll retrieve the original IMEI to the phone.
In what stage do you think - the process will fail ?

After a quick search on Google, the first results page points to www.unlockunit.com, while on the second page I've also found www.safeunlockcode.com. I couldn't find the prices for the latter, but the first company seems to have some pretty accessible fees.

Unlock Unit could not help me and had to refund my payment. They required me to upload a video of proof that the code they provided didn't work. It seems the phone can only be unlocked with the Unlock app that comes pre-installed, at least for now. T-Mobile hasn't even been able to help me unlock it yet.
you do know that T-Mobile offers you x amount of days to unlock you phone right? (Device unlock) you should have an icon for it.
Rep told me today that they are only allowing unlock for business customers and long standing regular customers. (2+ year active account) If you don't qualify for this, she said the earliest people will be able to submit for an unlock is 20 days - after the buyers remorse period. Still doesn't make sense to me as that only locks me to the device and not the service.

I see what you are saying. I have been with them for 10 years so I see where I wouldn't have that issue. Making you wait the 20 days does not make sense seeing that you are tied to the phone anyways or maybe because people may try to flip the it for $? I am sure they have their reasons. I would wait if you are not in a big rush.
Seems like those of us who got the phone to immediately use on AT&T are at a painful time. I haven't been able to use my edge as my primary device because of the unlock struggle. Now I can open a business line with tmobile no problem and tmobile has wideband in my area, it's just that for the same $55 I'd pay them for unlimited everything, I get better coverage with cricket and get 20GB (which I'm grandfathered) which feels like unlimited because I use 10GB under super heavy usage.

Maybe its only matter of time that the people of xdadevelopers came up with an unlock option by software.
Hope it doesn' t take long.
not sre which varient you ask for but one of my friend successfully unlocked his at&t variant with www.codes2unlock.com
Just unlock my tmob s6 edge with theunlockpros.com just take like 15 minutes, cost like 25 dollars you have to download a software then a guy connects to your computer and will guide you all the process to unlock your phone, it helps if you already rooted with pingpong.

I couldn't get my locked T-Mobile to work so planning to sell.
I bought a Unlocked Verizon G8 and I got it working for the most part but couldn't make or receive phone calls on it. I think the phone app had too much specific Verizon stuff. Ended up returning it
The Sprint version is a mess. Trust me.
I got my locked to Sprint. It works fine so far in the UK when I put my sim in it.

Are you sure it's not unlocked? Mine is brand new out of the box and I just get no Service, and a little note saying invalid sim in the drop down menu.
Has anyone manage to have one of these unlocked outside of going by the book with sprint?
All the services i've asked either said they can't do it, or said they could at first, then just sent me a refund pretty much straight back.
I don't mind paying for the service but it seems nobody is there yet.
Anyone know anything I don't?

They said it was locked to Sprint but also said it would work in UK. I hope you get it sorted. I'm having the same problem with the V50. I'm guessing the o my solution is if someone request the unlocking code from the manufacturer. Which can take a week or so.

The problem for the unlock code with the sprint G8 (and I gather some of the other phones too) is that they don't request an unlock code with an alternate SIM. There's a bunch of other codes you can enter to get the unlock code thing to pop up..... doesn't work.
It looks like the solution for the same thing on the Sprint G7 is for them to remote in using teamviewer or anydesk and work their magic.
I guess I could see if I can get my hands on a properly smashed up, non screen functional, unlocked phone, and transplant the board. But not really something I want to do with a brand new phone.
Partially hobbled by the lack of popularity I guess, you can find someone to do pretty much anything done to a Samsung

Im really hoping these codes work for you (option 2 or 3). I didn't for me unfortunately.
Unlocking instruction for LG G8 ThinQ ?
How to enter an unlock code in a LG G8 ThinQ:
Second option (device doesn't ask for an unlock code with an unaccepted SIM)
1. Start the device with an accepted simcard (example LG G8 ThinQ was bought in Orange you need to insert an Orange card)
2. Go to the dial screen and press “2945#*model number#” (the same way you enter a phone number)
Example: the device is a P999 you need to enter “2945#*999#” or for KU990 you need to enter “2945#*990#” etc…
Third option (accepted simcard)
1. Go to dial screen and press 2945#*71001# or 2945#*20001# as if making a call
2. when a hidden window appears enter the unlock code
Thanks Agent.M
I appreciate you looking into it. I've tried all those codes on mine and they don't work.
From what I gather, Sprint has used some sort of different locking method that can't be undone by entering a code.
It looks like it was the same on the LG G7 and the solution involved cross flashing some software. The services offering to do it all remote in using team viewer or similar and do it for you.
There was a thread running on the G7 forum for it the sprint unlock, this G8 thread doesn't seem to have nearly as much activity on it. And doesn't look like LG is being helpful with unlocking the boot loader.
I'm a bit sad, I put a lot of thought into which phone to get. We've only got the G8s locally, and it's not quite the same phone.
I'm going to return it and I guess burn the $100 in postage, return postage, restock fees etc. I'm not really happy to sit on it for another 6 months until someone works out an unlock for it. With my luck, someone will probably crack it next week after I send it off.
Unlock codes don't work on this phone.
There's no way to enter it.
Also. Suspicious post is suspicious.
It kinda sucks that this phone still can't be unlocked from Sprint using a 3rd party option. Because of the lack of attention, I'm afraid that LG phones might be leaving the scene just like HTC.
I ended up returning my g8 and getting a v40 new unlocked locally.
It's freaking enormous but we only got the g8s here which isn't any smaller.
Hence chasing the g8. I wanted something a sensible size.
My sprint phone have a major issue, it was randomly rebooting several times per day. I got sick of it and did a full reset, it made things even worse, I somehow lost the sprint boot up logo and now it just endlessly reboots until I shut it down completely.
Is there anyway to do flash it back to the original stock firmware?
My Sprint G8 (sim unlocked) from america is working with my Irish sim on GSM/UMTS only.........so no mobile data. There doesn't seem to be an option to add an APN.
It cost me 400 dollars including shipping and duties.............kinda expensive for a pocket camera!!!
Love the phone and will go to any lenghts to get it sorted.....but it's not looking good.

I'd love to hear details......did you buy the phone from US seller or did you bring it to the UK yourself, after using it on Sprint in the US?
Did your UK SIM register on your UK provider and have you got mobile data?
Could you post some screenshot from your "about phone" menu and also your APN setting from your Network menu?
I can't get my Sprint G8 working in Ireland on my data network (works on GSM, calls and texts only)

I'm having the exact same issue with my LG G8
- As We only have G8s in EU, I bought AT&T G8 from US eBay. Used it for a month without any issues and then suddenly MM#6 error.
- Went to AT&T "unlock phone" page and entered my IMEI. It said the phone is lost or stolen.
- Contacted the eBay seller, they told it should be unlocked and sent me an unlock code. I entered the unlock menu (2945#*820#) and all options gave the same result "Phone is not Personalized", which should mean that there is no lock on the unit and I did not have an option to even enter the unlock code. But there is still the MM#6 error.
So a bit clueless as to what to do now and based on this thread it seems like there is no solution to this. The phone seems to be locked by some other method.
I have never owned an LG phone before and just wanted to try it out. Guess it's an expensive lesson
edit: just after posting this, I got answer back from my carrier - the phone is blacklisted. So that's and anticlimactic end to the story
It's a pity......the handset is amazing.
There are a community of people trying to get this sorted.
The problem seems to be that your phone is trying to register on the ATT network and it can't........and there is no way to change the settings needed for it to register onto your network.
Can you post a screenshot of your APN screen in Network Settings.

Network Unlock Code Question

Hello. I have recently bought the device and found out about the rediculous locked bootloader issues. In order to do a bootloader unlock, you have to network unlock first. Here is my question. I found an unlocking website (https://unlocklocks.com/) and it supports the OP 7T, from tmobile usa. Would this be a realistic method? Anyone ever used/heard of these guys? I could care less if it was over $100, it would be well worth it to me. The question is "would it work?" Thanks

Hi
my method is free
install the app called VTS Android vulnerability suite. The oneplus 7T has two known vulnerabilities that have already been patched by google. dial 611 on your phone let them know the CRITICAL vulnerabilities have been patched by google the the service ie. Tmobile with its locked bootloader is keeping you from applying the update. Tell them on the record if they refuse to oem unlock then if your identity is ever stolen then they would be the responsible party. your ammo is the CVE and making the service liable... My phone is not paid off nor has the phone been on the network for 40 days. tell your tier 3 rep its above top secret. Cristy called me back in three days as she promised and unlocked my phone. This IS the only sure way to do it.

You must get T-Mobile to carrier unlock the phone. They are the only ones that can do it. However, if you still owe money on the phone, you will have a hard time getting them to agree to unlock it. Honestly the most successful method I have seen is to reach out to the main T-Mobile account via a direct message on Twitter. Explain that you need to get a carrier unlock and see what they say.

The first hurdle before you can do anything with the os is bootloader unlock. That it's not possible work a T-Mobile phone without T-Mobile doing it. Good luck.

I hate that a person's banner doesn't appear in the OP, so I didn't realize you were in Tel Aviv. Again, I think the best option is to reach out to T-Mobile on Twitter and explain that you acquired this phone, but you live in Tel Aviv and need them to sim-card unlock the phone so that you can use it on a local service. They may give you a hard time if there is still money owed on the phone (ie bought on an installment plan), but it the phone was bought outright, or if you pay off the balance on the phone, they definitely should sim-card unlock it.
Once it is sim-card unlocked, you can then bootloader unlock it which will give you the ability to install custom ROMs, kernels, etc.
Buy an unlock code from any service out there. Slam your new SIM card in and input your unlock code

Dirty secret.... Call and tell them you're someone either famous or C level of a company and you're going to be landing in whatever country and you need your phone unlocked immediately to use a local sim for business purposes. If or when they question the account name it's just the account of your assistant to obscure your identity. Major Telecoms won't tell you about this but I can tell you 100% from experience this is how things work. Well I can't at least say with at&t, Verizon, TMobile and Sprint. As in I've seen the tools with my eyeballs.

I thank you very much
Small note:
My ROOT and BOOTLOADER are locked
So I'm kind of in the same boat. I just purchased one that is sim locked to Verizon. I have seen things about leaving a Verizon sim in it for 24 hours and it will unlock, luckily my work phone is Verizon so I'm testing this theory.
But can anyone tell me if this is permanent? Will it survive factory resets and such?

Question anyone able to root with tmobile version?

anyone able to root with tmobile version? I have someone selling me their tmobile P6P, its payoff and unlock, but not sure if there is a difference after it is unlock.
There are already some threads in these sections concerning achieving bootloader unlock on T-Mobile variants of the P6P, which is all you need to worry about. Once you can unlock the bootloader (and have USB Debugging enabled) you can do anything you want.
I don't use T-Mobile but it involves contacting T-Mobile support, telling them you're going to be traveling out of the country, and request they SIM unlock the phone (so that you could use SIM cards that work in other countries). When they SIM unlock your phone, you can then enable OEM Unlock and unlock the bootloader. After that, the world is yours.
The other threads will give more detail and better advice, as I know there was something about temporary SIM unlock versus permanent, and how to achieve one or the other.
Search this section for T-Mobile in the thread name, if I remember correctly.

I used Twitter to send a Direct Message. I said "Good evening support. I have a favor to ask. Can you unlock my new Pixel 6? I may be going out of the country on short notice to assist a family friend and would want to put in a SIM from a carrier there."
After giving the agent my IEMI I was told "Thank you and thank you for being the best part of T-Mobile for over 5 years! Wow, there would be no us without you I was able to find that phone but see it doesn't qualify yet to unlock. No worries, #WeGotYourBack and I'm attempting to find a way around this. Checking on this right now for you. Be right back!"
I then replied "I appreciate that. I understand that normally the phone has to be on the network for 40 days and paid off but I believe there are temporary unlocks for traveling"
The next message was "You are more than welcomed! I know travelling abroad can be stressful enough and we want one less thing on your plate. Here are the steps to unlocking the phone Permanently https://t-mobile.com/support/devices/android/google-pixel-6-5g/mobile-device-unlock-google-pixel-6-5g…."
And I am unlocked

I have gotten every phone I've owned in the last 4 years unlocked no problem through Tforce on FB. They wont budge on my Pixel 6 pro this time. Its crazy.
Took a couple hours of messaging today but T-Mobile twitter unlocked 2 new phones that were financed through T-Mobile. At first I received a canned not eligible due "insert company policy". I asked if they would waive the 40 day requirement if I paid off both devices in full today. They agreed but both devices must be connected to and use data on the network first. I paid off the remaining balance and they instantly unlocked both phones. I did not have to use the unlocker app. Lot of hoops to jump through but we'll get a $600 credit over 24 billing cycles. Make sure the credits are on your pending bill. We still have to trade in the old phones.
Both of these phones have physical sims. They confirmed both devices would be unlocked for both physical and ESIMS. I also learned that OTA updates are pending with no time frame for all 3 of our physical SIM cards. The updates would enable SA (standalone) 5G. They currently rely on LTE. Support confirmed that ESIMS currently work with SA 5G and that customers are capable of switching to ESIM using the website.
Edit: I created a Twitter account just for this. Want to point out that the customer service agent was professional and pleasant to work with. Be patient and respectful. They are clearly overworked after Sprint merger and outsourcing by the corportate MBA terrorists.
ok I'm not talking about sim unlock people, I'm talking about bootloader unlock...

This
Can you do a bootloader unlock with a temporary sim unlock from tmobile, or does it require permanent sim unlock from tmobile?
If you are SIM unlocked, it functions like a factory unlocked PX6/P. Enable OEM unlock, go to bootloader, fastboot flashing unlock
You might be able to start here by getting your phone T-Mobile unlocked. Check out this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...rvice-oneplus-samsung-google-lg-moto.4231597/
