Possible bootloader unlock/alternative root! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Guides, News, & Discussi

I was in another thread and came across a link for the chinese version of the S7 (which also uses the snapdragon) and there is a how to on unlocking the bootloader and installing a rooted rom.... I am hoping people smarter than myself in these matters might be able to benefit from the information and maybe create a bootloader unlock for the US carriers

The APK is for an S6 device and while the OP didn't give them any credit, the link to the XDA forum attachment ID gives it away that it was originally posted here. That thread never went anywhere -- people poked at it and never got it working for the US-variants of the S6 so I can't imagine it will ever work for US-variants of the S7 or S7 Edge.
Short version: I'd bet money that this goes nowhere. Don't get your hopes up.

correct.. without even looking at it i bet its the crom.apk.. and he is correct it will not work.. it calls for certain lib files and ids on the device which it sends to the cloud which then sends back an unlock token to unlock it. we got it to run but it would fail regardless of what was attempted by experienced devs

New Note 4 owner

Is there thread that suggests what to do first with a new stock Note 4?
Root first?
Popular ROM?
Thanks
If you have the Verizon Note 4 you are stuck with stock as the boot loader is locked and no root exploit has been developed.

There's a thread called 'Desktop Setup' a little further down the main screen of the forum. I only took a brief glance, but it looks like it's other Note 4 owners showing how they have their phones setup. I just mainly setup mine to reflect how I had my S4 set. Unfortunately, though, the last post before mine is correct in saying root hasn't been achieved for this device yet. However, if you're looking to be able to use your phone as a mobile hotspot, you can purchase the full version of FoxFi for $7.95, or try the free version to see how you like it. The free one limits you to 5 megs per use, I think, before it disconnects you. I'm using the full version of the app to tether to my desktop right now, and it works pretty well. You can't turn it on with one tap like you can a rooted phone's hotspot, but you can turn off that way once you're done. The app lets me provide Wi-Fi for my XBox One, Tab 3 8.0, and Fire TV, too. Even though I can't root my phone yet, I still enjoy using it. Hope this helps, and sorry I rambled on a bit.

Haven't tried it yet, but I'm itching to give it a shot. I already downloaded the root file, but probably won't touch it til after this weekend, and the fact I got my phone set up the way I like it. I know this isn't the right thread, but before I make the decision to try this can anyone confirm that FoxFi works on 5.0.1? I'm currently on 4.4.4 and don't want to jump forward if it doesn't, since I need the hotspot. I know I can roll back to KitKat, but I'd lose all my stuff

Cool. The build in the post pointing to a possible root is showing 'Galaxy Note 4 (Verizon USA) SM-N910V VZWVerizon wireless N910VVRU2BOF1 5.0.1', which has me somewhat hopeful, with a side of skepticism. I will definitely be keeping an eye on this thread for any updates, hopefully good ones.
The file for root at the bottom says "Galaxy Note 4 (Verizon USA) SM-N910V" but has smn910f (SM-N910F (Europe)) in the file name for the zip.
Please tell me you guys are not serious???? Look at the date this crap was posted 7th July. Do you honestly think no one has tried it yet and come on the forums to scream about it. Very dodgy looking site also.
Take it easy, no point in getting worked up about it. We're all just looking for ANY glimmer of a lead for root.

And how is a 5 month old post a glimmer of hope. Most People on this forum have had their note 4s for a long long time and have been following and hoping for the one post that will spring up "That root has been achieved" it doesn't help with you posting the same thing in 3 different threads about some rubbish that has been posted 5 months ago from a website that looks like it was thrown together the same day they posted the root instructions. If anything comes up it will be posted on XDA almost immediately I can guarantee it.
I'm sorry if I sound harsh but everyone on here has been waiting a long time I see your only new to this and also had a chance to return.
The problem is No one appears to be working on anything, you only have to look at the thread "Lets talk root" I don't see any one talking about how root may be obtained and I include myself in that. What needs to happen is for this Note 4 community to start posting ideas in that thread or start a bloody new one. I am willing to use my phone as a guiney pig but come on people lets start talking about how we may obtain root and start experimenting. I will flash anything any one wants to my phone so lets take it over to the "Lets talk Root" forum.
Rant Over
Believe me, I understand your frustration as I've rooted every Android device I've had, till now of course. If we get, we get it. If not, oh well. I have more important things to concern myself with than whether I can root my phone or not. I'm sure the person who originally posted the link was only trying to help and not cause any tension. I wish I could root this thing, but get grip, it's still just a phone.

Do standard roots for S7/Etc work for the Active? Are there any out for the Active?

I guess due to it being a new version of the S7 this forum is rather empty. I've read conflicting info, some saying its not possible (like it wasn't for the S6 Active) and then Sadroid showing this guide ( http://www.sadroid.com/root-samsung-galaxy-s7-active-5-minutes/ ).
And just to be clear I'm using the US ATT S7 Active, SM-G891A.
Hoping someone can clear this up for me (and others that prob have the same question) before I give it a try.
Thanks in advance.

check out the AT&T S7 forums. If it is like the other variants then what we have is root but not much else so that means no custom roms or anything real fancy. However, It does break stuff such as samsung pay as well and causes other funny issues due to the ENGBoot firmware not being very stable, but it wasn't designed for that. IMHO there isn't much reason to root until development can unlock the bootloader and recovery and Rom can be achieved.
**Disclaimer-- I have no idea if the ODIN that is used for rooting the other s7's will work but it very well may be since they are probably running the same software. What you do with your device is your own problem if things don't work out.**
That being said, I hope it does, indeed, work like I think it should.
I main thing is the Boot.img. That will need to be modified for our model #. Maybe ask @Chainfire?
Is any progress on root

Anyone heard of this method actually working? I'm a long time lurker so please bear with me. This method claims to work with this specific variant of the S6 Edge+ but I see bounties out on this device for root so I'm kind of skeptical. It says it works with the latest 6.0.1 update for the SM-G928A.

Yeah I've been wanting to delete this ridiculous thread. Read a few mins before posting and later went back and read it again. Completely embarrassed. On this XDA App I can't delete the thread or I'm just that incompetent haha. I'm logging into my PC soon to rid this topic.
yeah I installed that software from that website. and once you install it and get it going it will tell you IT DOESNT SUPPORT THAT DEVICE. which is BS because they lied in the first place saying that software could root it. and it doesn't. what a waste of time.
btw I was talking about the galaxy s6 edge plus at&t (g928a)

Bootloader Unlock for AT&T SM-G930A S7

As you all might know this by now, snapdragon models of galaxy phones (s7 in my case) come with locked bootloader which makes it almost immposible to get TWRP recovery installed. I contacted the samsung and they send me to att advanced technical team over live chat. After long period of chatting they called me and we spoke on the phone for at least half an hour. The customer agent was nice and we went through many things such as installing ADT and SDK on my pc with all s7 drivers, but then she told me chances of me messing up some setting and bricking the device were high. Technical team told me to visit my local best buy AT&T and that there is high probability they will be able to unlock my bootloader. This upcoming week I will be heading there and asking them to unlock it for me. I told them this phone is my project dummy phone and I take full responsibility for any crashes done to the firmware. Hopefully they will be able to unlock the damn thing. So my question is this. 'Will I be able to use regular methods meant for unlocked s7's to install TWRP and various roms for my boot-unlocked s7 running snapdragon? Or will it make no difference since there isn't any research out there about flashing custom recovery's and roms for 930a. Sorry, I am new to this forum and might have made mistakes along the lines of explaining. Any response would be thankful!
So how'd it go????!!!!!!!!?????!!!

Well, after I visited the specified best buy store they thought something was broken with the phone. After explaining what I needed them to do, they were clueless on how to do it before a technician with enough knowledge told they were unable to do so. They referred me back to the carrier (AT&T) which referred me to manufacturer (SAMSUNG) which referred back to carrier yatti yatti yatta. After finding no luck I just sold the phone for dirt cheap and settled with my new note 8 which doesnt even need root for almost majority of customizations thanks substrantum and various launchers. In conclusion what I learned is AT&T doesn't want its customers to have full control over devices. They like forcing their logos on their phone and fill them with their crap bloatware that nobody uses. For which they get super mad and try to get rid of net neutrality... I'm sorry I could not help anyone; wish yall the best of luck!:good::good:
I had a samsung s8, sm-g930a.
When I rooted that device in 2017 I never saw OEM unlock option.
But when I saw it yesterday oem unlock is visible.
Does any one know what it is ???
And can I unlock my device now???

Rooting Sprint Galaxy s9

Hello all. I just finally picked up my new galaxy s9 a few hrs ago and in the process of transferring files /re downloading apps etc. When I went to login to xda on here for the first time it says I've already registered once
from my IP address.....I wasn't trying to register only login though....it then however let me create this new account? Lol. Anyone know how to fix that? My original login email is [email protected]
Anyways I've always used xda and guides posted here for all my rooting needs bcas I'm only moderately tech literate and have loved how the guides here have always been easy enough for me to follow successfully. I was unable to root my s7 apparently bcas of the firmware version...so I was excited to pick up my s9 tonight.
For some reason though when I'm searching for sm-g960u it's just showing its showing me posts here for the s3. Its probably this phone I'm already getting screwy little bugs and popups trying to navigate here ...another reason I want to root asap. Was just curious If anyone could link me whatever they think the most reputable guide for rooting this phone is.
My new phone :
Sprint sm-g960u galaxy s9
Android version 8.0.0 SDK 26
RF9 firmware
Sorry that I posted both problems (login and root problem) in same place...the root is my priority though. Thanks in advance and thanks to everyone who has worked on these guides and made years worth of rooting possible for people like me!
Or- if I can't find a guide here has anyone used or tried this method?
I usually only trust xda for these types of things so I'm hesitant to trust some other site....anyone know if legit?

Oops. New users can't post links...ugg..and can't get into my original account. Anyways the guide I was referring to is at
highonandroid.com/android-smartphones/how-to-root-galaxy-s9-or-s9-plus-exynos-supersu
The answer to your question lies in the model number itself...
