Experiences with VAT and DHL when Ordering Mi Max from Aliexpress? - Xiaomi Mi Max Questions & Answers

Hi,
I was wondering you anyone has order from Any sellers from Aliexpress, thinking primarily of Top-One, Goldway to europe. I know some sellers have relay services to get it toll free into EU (although it's a moot point for me since I live in Norway).
What are your experiences especially shipping with DHL? Did it go painlessly?
How are your experiences with DHL and customs?
Do chinese sellers declare low value? If so, does it get stopped in customs?
Should I explicitly ask to declare normal value in order to not have customs problems?

Hi,
I live in Germany and received my Mi Max today. It was sealed and everything went fine.
I ordered exactly one week ago from Top-One via DHL.
I have no idea how the handle / pay / go around customs but it works.
I can recommend this seller. :good:

I want recommended Top One as well fast delivery with DHL to UK.

Hello i live in germany too, i order always from top one.. Its a great seller and ships very fast. If you live in germany.. Smartphones and tablets are duty free.. I ordered mine today on xiaomi device website.. Mi max 128gb 4gb ram for 390 dollar.. Next week will it arrive.. I will make a video review and post it here.. The reason why I didn't ordered it from ali express is that there is no 128gb 4gb ram bundle

Toll charges comes about a week later in a letter from DHL.

DHL always charge you for the tax. Their policy prohibits the sellers from under-marking the item value and they calculate it in advance rather than waiting for the UK, Germany, France etc to review the shipment and apply any charges.
The seller could technically get around it by creating a second invoice with a lower value and using that for the customs paperwork but then can complicate matters when it comes to returns and other things.

Ordering from TopOne has no problems with VAT or anything else. They send the phone from HK to UK, and sign for it. Then they package it and send it to an address inside EU. Confirmed with 3 phones so far.

Yeah unfortunately their prices are a little expensive for my taste though. Including shipping the phone costs around $30-40 more from them than it does from any other seller.

My mi Max was $303 for 64gb version so I think this was a good price considering every other store was around 340-370 when I was getting it and shipping around 50.
Shipping on TopOne was 26 every time.
So all in all it was a good deal.

No problems. 220€ + 24€ for dhl shipping, fast and smooth from Aliexpress to Finland.

Mi Max
I ordered my Mi Max from xiaomidevice on a Monday and got it the following Monday using DHL..came a day earlier as Tuesday was suppose to be the delivery date..glad I was home to pick it up

My buddys family goes back and forth to China and they picked me up a 128GB Helium for $313 USD.

I ordered from Carry-it electronics with DHL. Major error!
They didnt declare anything so i had to pay 46 euros to dutch customs first to even get my phone.
Afther 7 weeks now the phone went completely black.... Dead. It still was stock..... On directions of Carry it i took it to local phone store...15 euros to check it. Mainboard defect! Not repairable by them. Carry it doesnt believe me so they avoid any responsibility. I should sent it back and make more costs... No way. First make more costs to customs because of their error.... Then 15 euros to check the phone... And then ship it anyway......
Folks.... Don't do business with Carri-it

I ordered from my Mi Max from Top One, price I think was 272 dollars total, to Czech Republic. 64GB version. Very smooth transaction, received it one week later via DHL, no customs, no hassle, they even put Google Play on it. Would gladly deal with them again.
Issue right now is that out of the box I know they don't support all the LTE bands in Europe and I am trying to find if someone has a patch that will unlock them. I am getting about 12Mb/sec, which while not as bad as my first test which as a horrible 1MB, still far from what LTE can be. Outside of that, what a great phone, easy on the eyes, fast, and great battery.
Phone came with 7.32 or something MIUI. Unless the MIUI that is out there includes more LTE bands, I am not going to chance updating right now, just my preference.

Officially MI max 128gb GB is not available.. Can anyone recommend be a website in Hong Kong where I can buy MI max 128gb? Plus some accessories

Where you getting your Mi Max from?

I've never imported a phone before. Very interested to hear where people are getting their MiMax from? as well as delivery speeds and buyer protection options?
I'll be importing it into the US.
Well, i placed an order on gearbest about 10 days ago for shipment to the US. Expected shipping was 2 to 5 days, but once it got to 10 days (today) and they couldn't offer a solid shipping window, I canceled the order. I'd really like to mess with this device, I mean the specs and price are great, but not at the risk of being strung along.
BTW, gearbest hasn't confirmed they'll refund all my money on a non-shipped item, but my credit card company will have the last laugh.
Anyone else get the Mi Max shipped to the States?
Got mine from ebay imported to US from Hong Kong. Very fast shipping, seller was responsive, tracking #, etc. Smooth transaction... Got it on my door in less than a week. It was $309 when they first showed up. Now he also has 64gb version.

I contacted Xiaomi and they directed me to their Partner store: http://nis-store.com/xiaomi-smartphones/xiaomi-mi-max-3gb32gb-dual-sim-silver/ $269.00 for 3/32GB is among the better prices I've seen. I have to check on availabiity. I don't mind waiting 10 days for shipping, but I won't wait around for a product being sold that isn't in stock, or expected to me for weeks. That's just bad business.

I bought two from goldway @ AliExpress. One mi max and redmi note 3 pro for the girlfriend. Asked them to declare the value to 35 dollars for each one. Paid for them to be Shipped with DHL. Got them in three days. Freaking fantastic. They come with vendor roms. But I Flashed miui 8 without problem with both.
One thing to note that mi Validator doesn't work. Could be an issue with miui 8 beta. But what I've read its more due to it being a chinese version on the phone. Apparently there is another chinese Validation page that you can check your phone at to make sure its not a fake. Antutu Validator says they are not fake.
I would recommended top - one. Goldway is good too that I used.
but nobody has the 64 gb grey version, i found only the silver and gold version.
greets, Peter

Same. Did you buy after seeing the ad on OzBargain?
I did & had nothing but issues with that Geekbuying so far.
I brought it & paid for DHL but then they come back & say it's no in stock. Then this week they said they will ship "sometime this week".
Honestly Geekbuying is a joke with their processing times & won't be order from them again.
The product is not in stock
Only gold version will be available on 128Gb. Gearbest is not bad, I think they try to confirm addresses first, so be watchful after making an order, thats it. I've just checked the igoyou.com site.....the phone is not in stock and ebay is selling about 30 bucks higher without a chance for express shipping. Ebay is my preferred, but, i'll have this arrive from geabest with 5 days to spare assuming i decide to go with ebay. The phone is in hot demand and smaller sites like jadopado do not even have the 128Gb, but have already jacked up prices.

Best Place to buy for UK

Hi,
I would like to buy this phone and get it shipped to the UK. I know about the lack of some UK bands and I am happy with it in my area. I have seen it on ali express and geekbuying but have no experience as to buying a phone from there and what import taxes they hit. Where would you recommend I get one?
I have sene it in a couple places:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Xia..._6&btsid=47921e20-e42d-4dc6-a153-d53e0513952a
http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Xiaomi-Mi-5S-4GB-128GB-Smartphone---Gray-372738.html
I am assuming this phone is out yet? or are these just suppliers saying it wil eb a long delivery as they havnt got it yet?
Chris
Check out oppomart. They ship from EU so there shouldn't be import charges. $20 for shipping. They seem to have the best prices
Thanks, that does look like decent prices. Shame the grey isn't available yet. Have you used them before?
No haven't used them
I used oppomart to preorder the Redmi Pro.
It hadn't shipped 4 weeks after the shipping date published on the site (which also hadn't been updated) and I'd heard nothing from them. This was 6 weeks after I placed the preorder.
They were quick to refund and cancel the order on request though.
I would note that the seller you linked claims "Tariff Free" which may be customs related or may simply mean that it's a handset only (rather than carrier tied).
Top One will cover any EU (UK included) import fees (see here)
AliExpress claims it comes with a 1 year UK warranty, plus they're listed on a few UK cashback sites such as Quidco (7.5% off)
Try eglobalcentral.co.uk. I ordered my note 7 (yes i still refused to give up on it) from there and it arrived safely, very quick and with no custom taxes (their policy also states that they cover the cost of the custom taxes). But just have in mind that they are sending the phones from Hong Kong so if you need to return it or is faulty you have to pay for the posting cost. I also advice you to include mail insurance during checkout just to be sure.
I got my Mi 5 on the way to UK in the Mi Store (in shanghai) . But I have got Mi phones from Banggood and Aliexpress before so they are both good (this was when I was in NZ so idk import charges).

No one is selling the note 7 now apparently so i wouldn't be able to order it from somewhere as they stopped the production. So when i said 'ordered" it man i meant pre-ordered and arrived on 2nd of September , the day of its release before anyone knew about the faulty batrery. But you are right about it not being safe and because they also restrict it on flights i decided to rerurn it back.
Has anyone been able to find a black/grey varient? All I keep finding is a pre order. Is the black version released yet?
from my searching around all i can find are silver so i think the rest have not been released yet.

Gray Version - Where to buy?

Hey guys,
does anyone know why no shop has the gray version of the Phone? All i can find is the silver one but i dont like the white front because of the black bezzels
You´ll have to wait a little bit more for that colour.
I'm also looking for the Gray colored version!
Is there a known timeline for Xiaomi when it released the M5 before we could find the gray one? I can't seem to find any information about this

I don't think you can get the gray model from anywhere right now. I'm not even sure if Xiaomi has sold/shipped any of those yet. Only the silver model is being sold, but as you said, all the other colors apart from gray look stupid because of the black bezels.
I ordered a gray 4/128 GB model from Top-One Digital on Aliexpress on October 5th. The sales rep told me it'll take about a week from now for them to get them in stock, so they should probably have them in week 43.
Top-One is only selling the silver model currently, though. I guess they'll add the other colors back once they have them in stock and they've filled the orders for those who already have orders in.

If you're in Europe, Top-One delivers their stuff so that you don't have to pay any taxes or customs fees, if you select DHL shipping.
I suggest checking those links every once in a while to see if they gray model has become available.
Edit: Just found a seller on Aliexpress who at least lets you order the gray version. But I have no idea whether or not they actually have them in stock. I highly doubt it.

I'm sorry, I don't know if anyone ships to India like that... I suggest looking around at some Indian tech forums to see if people have found a seller doing something similar to that. That's how I found the Top One store; from a Finnish forum where many had ordered a phone from there and everyone had received it without having to pay taxes.
Xiaomi sells their phones directly in India, right? Are the prices a lot higher than in China?
Yeah. Xiaomi mi5 was 25% higher than china and only 32gb 3gb underclocked version was released.

25% more is not bad, since resellers in China are taking more than that anyways, if shipping charges are taken into account.
For example the 4/128 GB Mi 5s:
Xiaomi sells it for 2299 yuan, which is 341 US dollars. Top-One is selling the same phone for 409 US dollars + 26 USD for the DHL shipping method. So it's 435 USD at Top-One. That's 28% more than the official Xiaomi price.
But I don't really care since similar phones cost twice as much in Finland.
I thought the 3/64gb was $350?

Not yet...
I ordered on 2nd of October and at the time it was written, that it is on stock (not preorder). I received the notice from the seller this morning that we will have to wait probably 2 more weeks.
Since the shipment date on Xiaomi official store is after 30th of november, I doubt that any shipment will occur before.
I am seriously thinking to cancel the order, since the price dropped a couple of euros (from 390,01 to 376,64) and the current delivery is 16 to 25 days from 2973 pcs available...
2973 pcs? Xiaomi will ship 3K grey units to Top One before offer them on their own store? This has to be Top Ones total stock of everything...or something.
Very misleading
I guess it's a 50/50 change that the new produced color is Grey. They started with silver..now the gold one is showing up in the shops. So the next would be grey or.....pink . Maybe pink sounds weird to produce next but heyy..they made it for china
Maybe they know that grey is most wanted and they start with the less popular colours so they could tune the firmware or even make hardware adjustments. But thats only guessing.

Mi mix 2 India release date.

It looks like they are expecting the mi mix 2 to be available in India Jan 24th 2018. My question is I believe these devices will ship with global preinstalled from the factory? If so I'm also assuming those of us that are lazy could wait and buy a version of the phone that has global preinstalled? It's been about 8 years since I last rooted and am not sure I want to mess with it again. Is what I stated accurate? Thanks

Hello,
Actually I think that it will be on sale in India starting tomorrow ! See http://www.mi.com/in/mix2/
Speaking of which, I am from Belgium and in 3 weeks I will be visiting Hyderabad for work for 15 days, and there seems to be a "Xiaomi Home" store 10 kilometers from my hotel ! Definitely I will have a visit.
Do you know if this is where we can have the best prices for any Xiaomi Phone ? Are they in general lower than on Gearbest or other online platforms ?

It is on sale, I've got one. That being said, make sure you check for the availablity of it in the Mi Homes as I think it might not be available there. If it is available there, it might cost Rs. 38,000 instead of Rs. 36,000 (this is just what I've heard about the Mi home pricing, I may be wrong on this).
On gearbest, this costs around Rs. 36,700 in sale without including shipping charges. So it is slightly cheaper to buy from India, though the bigger advantage IMO is that you're buying a sealed unit from the official seller, so you can be assured of a problem free experience.

Delivery Time Question

Hi All -
I purchased a Mi Mix 2s in White from GearBest back on May 14th. I still don't have the device, in fact, it took until the 3rd of July for it to ship due to some kind of problem with the white model shipments that GearBest was receiving. The shipment has been sitting in HK based on the tracking information from 4px, and based on what I found online, the average shipment time from HK for 4px is apparently 52 days. Does anyone else have any feedback on this process? I couldn't change the shipping on this device when it was ordered, they weren't allowing any other shipment method, or I would've paid for some other kind of expedited shipping.
Am I really looking at delivery at the beginning of September?
What do the supplier say? Sometimes the shipment gets delayed, or misplaced. Just had a shipment from Ali, that stopped in Chinese customs, and was returned to the seller. If I had not communicated with the seller, none of us would have known. They resent my order. (not a phone, but).

GearBest replied to my inquiry saying shipping is outside their control and that they do not have any more information than what was provided on a tracking site they use (less than using the 4px page). I guess it's just a waiting game now. Phone didn't move from the 4px facility since the day they picked it up from GearBest.

GearBest is normally quite good. If you used PayPal cancel it or file a dispute. I think the time limit is 60 days for a dispute but if you never received it that's different. Either way, never buy from any Chinese vendor that doesn't accept PayPal.

I bought mine from AliExpress, which doesn't have PayPal but I trust them. I placed loads of orders and never had any issues. My mix 2 was shipped from Singapore to UK and it was delivered in 15 days. It would have been delivered faster but it got stuck at Heathrow and had to pay custom's which was about 12£.

Mine showed "despatched" (yes, typoed) on the 4px page and SingPost tracking page. Bound for LAX according to that via air, but that was 3 days ago. USPS says they don't offer tracking for packages from Singapore Post anymore, and nothing's been updated. Still hoping it gets here, but we'll see. It's been so long between order and actual shipment that I don't think Paypal will do anything at this point.

Well, been buying for several years from Ali, no problems at all. One does have to be a bit patient, as the seller does not have any control over the shipping company, other than checking up delays. Ali has always refunded me if I have opened a dispute. (Happened with 3 of maybe 200 orders..). Most sellers will answer you politely,if they're difficult, open a dispute or complain... Many are very small shops connected to the bigger ones, as AliExpress, Banggood, Gearbest, etc.
