Do not see OEM unlock in HTC one M8 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I need some help unlocking my HTc one M8. I ma mainly doing it so that I can recovery lost data. (if you know of any alternatives for recovering lost data that does not inlucde rooting, please let me know.
I am following these instructions to root my device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51465837#post51465837
One of the steps says that I need to enable OEM unlock. However, with my sprint phone, I am unable to enable this feature.
I was wondering if someone could point me to a tutorial for rooting the device.

If you don't see OEM UNLOCK, do you see DEVELOPER OPTIONS in your settings menu? If you do not see DEVELOPER OPTIONS, you will need to this:
Open SETTINGS - ABOUT PHONE
Scroll to the BUILD NUMBER and tap it 7 times to enable DEVELOPER OPTIONS.
Once you have enabled DEVELOPER OPTIONS you can select OEM UNLOCK and follow the steps from htcdev.com
Let me know if this is your problem and if it helped.

Hello,
Yes, I do see the developer options and I can access them. I do not see unlock OEM in there

Okay, so I have been away from the HTC side of things for a while and I forgot about the official HTC way to unlock the bootloader. When you use the official HTC way to unlock the bootloader you do not have to have the OEM UNLOCK in your developer options. You only have to enable USB Debugging in Developer Options. If you follow the steps on www.htcdev.com to unlock the bootloader you will not have a problem. I've done it before in the past and it's pretty simple. There are step by step instructions when using the htcdev.com site. Once you go to the website you have to create an account to get started. If you need any help with it let me know.

Not 100% certain, but I beleive you'll lose your data when you unlock the bootloader.
What do you mean "lost data"? Appears for your description that the phone is functioning okay. Were the files corrupted, or deleted accidentally? If so, there are some apps on the Play store that you can try to recover the data, that don't require root.

Phone formated and its asking for google account.

Hi,
My roommate has HTC 10 which was formatted by him last week. He don't remember the name/password of google account he used. Now, the phone is asking for google account when its started and he don't know what to do.
I though, I would flash it with new firmware and see how it goes, but I don't think it will work. I assume even after flashing new firmware, google account detail will be ask on phone start up.
so,
1. Is there anyway we could recover phone to normal operation? He has phone number he was using with but he is stupid enough not to remember other details of his google account on his phone.
2. Regarding flashing, the phone I believe is unlock (bought in Dubai), but I don't know if the phone is bootloader unlock or not. How can I check if the boot loader is lock or not? Is there anyway to unlock bootloder using fastboot/ADB?
3. what will happen if I flash custom rom on existing phone(which i'm sure is carrier unlock but not sure of bootloader status)? I want to install twrp first and try other ROM.
and lastly, for argument sake, if phone is locked(bootloader lock) and there is no way to unlock without login to google account in phone first and enabling bootloader unlock in developer option, can HTC support reflash the phone to unlock as new phone, so that he can continue using it?
I'd really appreciate help and suggestion on the topic
If it's full stock, boot to bootloader, then recovery and performance factory reset. Everything g will be deleted from the phone. It should work then, otherwise just unlock bootloader and flash TWRP and a custom rom
Also you can find everything In HTC 10 general forum. Like what to do and what is what and and and.

I think that is the android "factory reset protection" which after reset it need to use the same account using before for verify ownership, I know samsung and LG have some bypass method but dunno about the HTC, may be flash a RUU may help.
anyway, here is a page to find the google account if you had phone number link to it: h**ps://accounts.google.com/signin/usernamerecovery?hl=en

yes i think it is the case. Its asking for google account after factory reset.
a n00biesh question, what exactly RUU is. Is it windows based tool like odin or some files to flash in fastboot.
My major concern is if it is possible to unlock the bootloader directly via fastboot without enabling "oem unlock" enable option in developer mode. I'm not familiar with HTC. I'm been using MI phones for past 4 years and i know how to handle MI phones.

RUU is the rom update utility by HTC. unlocking without oem unlock from dev options won't work afaik. please check CID with fastboot getvar all and post it here, but don't post your IMEI. just the CID . if you have a compatible CID, for example WWE one then you can use the RUU for WWE to flash the phone completely new. maybe then you can bypass that protection.

Can't Unlock Bootloader [NOOB]

I've got an HTC 10 with Verizon. I'm trying to follow the guides, but they all want me to enable the OEM Unlock option in the developer settings. I can't do this because the option is simply not there. Can't find any guides with my same problem. Closest I've found was some guy also didn't have the option showing, but he somehow had the s-off, which from what I've found you can't do unless you've unlocked the bootloader by enabling the OEM Unlock. WTF have I done wrong? Is this even possible with my phone? I just wanted to get rid of the pop-up ads.
Thanks for listening

Verizon disables the OEM Unlock option, and so you cannot unlock the bootloader in the same way as for the other variants. Your only option is to pay for S-Off, which will require you to mail in your device to the Sunshine team if you're on Nougat/Oreo software.

[CLOSED]Force Unlocking Bootloader on Nokia 6.1

Hey,
I have been searching for an answer to this for quite a while, and I've found some information. Before you start bashing me in the comments, I do know that Nokia has disabled unlocking bootloaders on certain devices. My question is, is there 100% no (free) way of unlocking the bootloader on my phone, or just in general to get root. I am running Android 9, and I do have adb (of course).
Thank!
Also interested in this ... Don't want to let someone mess around with my phone .. used to do it myself
Short answer, no. By the looks of it there are currently no free tools, etc.
Long answer, yes but not accessible for us currently. There are ways to gain root access/unlock the bootloader on every device. Currently there are some unpatched exploits (that sometimes cannot even be fixed) in the Linux and Android system that are able to root devices, etc. The last few years showed that Baseband (proprietary Qualcomm code), the RAM (Rowhammer, Rampage) and other device features are attackable. Maybe KingoRoot or someone else might implement these exploits in the following years, and we get a free utility to root devices.

I'm quite new to this rooting stuff, therefore a few stupid questions:
I read that with old security patches, before Aug 2018 (was that still Android Pie?) it was possible to unlock the bootloader. Isn't there some way to downgrade the security patch to a version allowing to unlock?
Is it at all required to unlock the bootloader in order to be able to install LineageOS as provided by this link?
many thanks!
EDIT: Can you recommend any working alternative way to unlock the bootloader?

August 2018 would have been Oreo and YES currently you have to roll back to unlock bootloader. It's a PAID service to have this done. @singhnsk can aid you in doing this service. I as well as many others have used him to unlock our devices. You will have to use Team Viewer and let him remotely do his work.
Good luck!!
And actually, the main question is how to unlock? Bootloaderunlocker.apk dont work, it say me "google service error" help me please

You da Man! I had to try it a few times, but it worked.
Just to clarify point 3.
3. Now turn developer option on again click OK and as soon as you do you will be returned to previous menu. Immediately click "OEM unlocking", it will show a message and ask your password, (if set), and work.

Just got used Pixel 3 XL: Bootloader unlocked? Help please

Hello,
I'll keep this quick, I got a Pixel 3 XL 128GB White from Reddit, beautiful condition, very happy with that, however, when I turned it on, it gave me a warning that "the Bootloader was unlocked":
1. Is this a stolen phone? Should I be concerned that it has its bootloader unlocked? Is there a way to check that the phone is not a leased phone or stolen?
2. How do I relock the bootloader? Do I want to relock the bootloader?
Cheers

No need to worry. People actually pay extra money for unlocked bootloaders! It just means you can root your phone if you want to. You can lock it up again if you wish. Do a Google search for procedures on how to lock it up again. But don't dear. You are good.

Okay. Thank you. I figured it was fine.
Is there anything different about it since it's unlocked? Can I not update my phone regularly or OTA?
You can update even with an open bootloader. Just leave it like that if someday you need to fix your phone for a software issue. Check what version of Android it has and update if you can.
Unlocked bootloaders are highly desierable. U got the good stuff.
If you are here on xda, that means you are into custom rims and rooting. Search Ip on it

One caveat no one mentioned with an unlocked bootloader is that Google Pay wont work, and perhaps some other apps.
There is no harm with it unlocked, unless you wish to use Google Pay, etc. In which case you would either need to root and hide root so they work, or relock the bootloader.
ALWAYS, enable developer options by going to settings > about phone >build number, tap on the build number at least 7 times and follow the prompts on the screen.
Once done with that immediately, go to settings > system > advanced > developer options > OEM unlocking and be sure it is enabled. (this should be done already in your case, but check to be sure.)
If you decide to re-lock the bootloader, make sure the phone is 100% completely stock by flashing the factory images after you have important data backed up. Follow the procedures here: https://developers.google.com/android/images

Question OEM Unlocking

I have been trying to root my S22 but continually run into the problem of OEM Unlocking. Everyone says just about the first thing to do is to select OEM Unlocking on the Developers Options but it isn't there. I even following one set of directions to try to make it show up but it didn't work either. I can't seem to get to the rooting without the OEM Unlocking. Anyone have any ideas? It doesn't have to do when I purchased the device which is what one person suggested but didn't help.

If this is a Snapdragon device, unlocking the bootloader most likely isn't possible.
Try this;
Remove the SIM
Factory reset
Skip through the setup wizard, DO NOT connect to WiFi or insert the SIM
After initial setup finishes, enable developer options
Manually set time at least 1 week ahead from now
Wait a few minutes
Check to see if OEM Unlocking is available

Your are right. Snapdragon won't let you unlock bootloader. Tried your steps and of course it didn't work.
