External SDcard restrictions on Tab S after lollipop upgrade? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
Not sure this has been asked yet. I did a search and didn't find anything so please excuse me if I'm asking an answered question. My 8.4" SM-T700 still runs on 4.4 Kitkat. Originally there were external sdcard restrictions where writing to external sd card was locked and one needed to root and download an third party app in order to regain full access. Is this also the case on 5.0.2 Lollipop? I'm thinking of doing an update (finally), but want to know if I'll face the same issues with the external SD on 5.0.2.
All help greatly appreciated.
Regards

Hi.
I had been running stock kitkat on my 10.5" for 18 months and i just updated to lollipop, With kitkat i had to used the kitkat microsd fix to enable write/delete but since i updated to lollipop i have not had an problems writing or deleting files on my microsd, so that`s my experience.
John.

Thanks Tinderbox! Much appreciated.

The fix still works on lollipop 5.0.2

[Q] Upgrade to Kitkat or stay on Jelly Bean?

Hi folks,
I've had my Z2 stolen a few days ago and I'm going to get a Z1 compact to replace it. Sad story I know
Now I have a simple enough quesiton. The device itself comes with Android 4.3 and 16 GB of internal storage.
One thing that bothered me on Z2 was that I couldn't move the apps to the SD card, but with Android 4.3 I can.
When I get the Z1c next week I plan to root it, after taking a backup of the TA partition of course, but then I wonder will I be able to move the apps to SD storage and are there any issues with this?
It's my first 4.4 device that will be rooted, I was reluctant to root the Z2 since there was no way to backup the DRM keys, so I'm not aware of any limitations or drawbacks of upgrading to the latest version of Android.
I don't mind staying on 4.3 if that's the advice from the community
Thanks!

Thanks mate!
Should I root first, or let the phone update itself first?
And last question - is there an app or hack for KitKat to easily move applications and data to SD card?
I used to do it with Titanium Backup Pro, but I'm not sure that option exists anymore.

Theres an Xposed module to enable the old behaviour of the external Memory Access. It's called HandleExternalStorage

[Q] GT-N5100 Italian 3g - to root or not to root

Hello fellow androidians
I am here because I desperately need to play Baldurs Gate on my Note 8 but Kies won't update my device - as far as I can understand, the Italian model is not exactly looked after and it's still running 4.1.2. So I won't be able to move stuff to the sd card for a while.
I have a few questions regarding this issue:
Can I safely root it?
And if I root it I can still use the base android or am I to flash a custom rom?
I would like to keep S Note which I use a lot, so any suggestion here is highly appreciated.
Will rooting mean loosing all the stuff I have in my galleries or will it be possible to root without a backup?
After years of Android use I collected a lot of memorabilia, which position and time of download is very precious to me. Call me ocd and you won't be wrong.
In case I will go for the root, will the tips provided here work on my model baseband version N5100XXBMC8?
I would be much happier if I had the possibility of updating to kit kat straight away, but this seems unlikely
How silly of me thinking Italian carriers would update my little treasure!
Normally you will not loose any data when you root your device. Base will not change. No need to flash a Custom Rom. So root your origunal 4.1.2 and finished.

[Q] Move Apps to SD Card

I have a rooted Xperia T3 running Android 4.4.2 and FW 18.1.A.21.. How do I move apps to SD? I have tried Apps2SD, AppMgr III and etc. but still can't move downloaded apps to SD. There is also no move to SD button on the AppManager.
Can i ask how you rooted your sony xperia t3? i dont know how you did it because ive been looking for a way to root it for al ong time.
after .25 update it's possible in app settings.
Can't update phone to the last version
Hi, i have Xperia T3 with the 4.4.2 software 18.1.A.1.21 and I didn't recive any update. When I go into the settings and update phone, they ask me that the last update installed but i didn't install new one. I need new upgrade because he has support for moving to the SD card. My phone have warranty for 2 years and I don't want to lose it if I root phone or install manaully update with the flash tool . If anyone know how can I install last update without losing warranty, or if anyone know how to fix that problem with the moving on sd card, I'll be very thankful for that.

[Q] Should i update to 4.4.2 kitkat?

Hi i have a samsung s3 which is from bell. I really want those media controls on the lockscreen which has been implemented with the 4.4.2 update in samsung s3 but as i read through forums i had encountered those people who says that the update sucks. Some says that it comes up with an sd card restriction, is it true? And do you recommend updating into 4.4.2, why or why not?
Additional question
Does the same rooting using cf-autoroot works with 4.4.2?
I dont really like those custom roms and i prefer the stock touchwiz

I was able to root with cf-autoroot on 4.4.2
The SD card restriction is a big PITA. Your apps can no longer directly access the microSD card except for a specific folder that the application has rights to.
I just flashed my rogers S3 to a custom 5.1.1 ROM and lollipop is a big improvement over kitkat. It definitely runs smoother on the S3 than kitkat did.

i have read that there's an apk made by a senior member of xda which remove the restriction, i think it was called sdFIx. Anyway is there any other bugs from 4.4.2? and does the battery actually drains faster on kitkat compared to 4.3 Jb?
im currently downloading it now
