S6 Edge Plus vs Note 7, worth to upgrade? - Note 7 Questions & Answers

I'm a S6 Edge Plus owner, now with the official Note 7 announcement do you guys think it's worthless an upgrade?
Sent from my SM-G928F using XDA-Developers mobile app

Not even in the same category. You would have to compare it to the s7 edge IMO to get accurate comparison. I have a note 5 and my wife has the s6 edge+...we are both upgrading to the Note 7

im a s6 edge+ user and im leaning towards the idol 4s..it is not the phone out there but it does half of the things that the s7 and note 7 cant do for half the price

WELL, ISee a lot of people posting-braggimg about their "DUBAI" Devices, if you were wealthy enough to go there ro buy a piece of electronic ****, tossing away money like nobodys bussiness, then, dont be sillu-idiot to complaint, you shouñ.be very rich enough to forego a mere 1000 usd, you travel emirates to dubai, right? lots of dollars right? so, don be a sssy

I upgraded from s6 edge plus to note 7, I can say performance wise there is no big difference but I like the idea of sd card, water proofing and s pen.
it is easier to use for my hand but a bit heavier than it was but I am using a bigger case than before the UAG one

is it worthed to upgrade from tmobile note 3 to s5?

is worthed to put the money on a s5 or to wait for the note4?
Thats not an upgrade they are not the same category. Thtats more of a downgrade. Phone pbablet etc. Just dont do it wait for note 4

I agree, if you love the Note 3 you're likely not going to like the S5. It's quite a bit smaller screen but the phone is almost the same size. No Stylus (if you use). You just aren't comparing apples to apples and i also believe it's a step down from the Note 3.
On a side note, I love having the latest and greatest but this is the first phone i had that i never am finding myself looking for an upgrade. The Note 3 is amazing and there isn't really anything out there better to the point you would even notice a difference. i mean the phone is barely 6-7 months old and the spec war is at a stand still. All the phones are about the same now spec wise. So i say just relax and enjoy your phone for awhile.
I had the S5 for about a week and was definitely unimpressed with it. Smaller size, no stylus, and the biggest killer was less RAM. 3gb to 2gb is a big difference when it comes to Android.

The Note 3 is really a business phone. If your us anything else outside of that. You may benefit from the S5.

S7 v Note 5

I played with the s7 and edge today at Best Buy. Wow. Beautiful and you can feel they are an evolution from the Note 5 and s6. I can't wait to see how they take that design and implement it into the Note 6.
I have a S7 Edge on pre-order... I can't wait!
I was at BestBuy today and played with the S7 and S7 Edge for a while. I was not impressed at all. The physical appearance is not much different than the S6. I compared it to my Note 5, and I just don't see significant different in performance. Perhaps, the S7 demo unit is not yet well polished? But, I don't see any reason to upgrade, let just say not worth the upgrade. At least not for me.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Not worth the upgrade from my Note 5, basically the S7 is a copy of Note 5 with just a few improvement, not saying that S7 is not good, i am sure it is, but to upgrade my Note 5, i will wait on Note 6 which will be way better then S7, or if not to impress on the Note 6, then I'll hold on to my Note 5 till next year for the Note 7.

I went to Best Buy today too.
What impressed me the most was how much smaller the S7 Edge is compared to my Note 5.
Yes, I know the screen is 0.2 smaller but the form factor and size was really nice.
The screen appeared a tad bit nicer on s7 Edge and definitely brighter.
Regardless not enough to upgrade for me. I'll keep the Note 5 for now.
Same. Just looking forward to the note6
I was gonna upgrade to the s7 edge, but decided against it after playing with an s6 edge plus. I just don't like the curved screen, distorts 1/4 inch on each side of the screen, and make it really hard to view things.
Neat design, but too annoying for me.

I agree. I reckon Samsung should create a zoom buttton, like Netflix has, that goes from full screen to just the 'flat' area. It would still look pretty good.
Well for any T-Mobile or Sprint on the S7 or S7 Edge, they finally locked there bootloaders, tightly locked down, no more root for those phone as well there fun in rooting are over, i knew this was gonna happen sooner or later, so now they are in the same boat as AT&T and Verizon is.

My guess on the T-Mobile thing is that it is possible that Samsung Forced their hand. Samsung seems to be trying to take the route of better security screw the dev. community. Kinda disappointing really.
The only real difference I can see that the S7 phones add is adding back the ability to use external storage.
Looks like I will be looking for a different phone manufacturer next go round that isn't completely locked down and doesn't suck. Very disappointing though considering I like the Note series.

I always felt that skipping a generation on Sammy devices is always a better payoff if you can wait. S7 in silver is awful pretty though.

I have the S7 on Verizon and the Note 5 on AT&T. Nearly no difference besides MM and the always on time/date display. Cameras both are good. S7 a tad better in low light. Note 5 better color reproduction. MicroSD is preference just like the S pen. My note 5 is 64gb so not incredibly important to me. S7 Is more comfortable to hold since it's smaller. Still prefer the larger screen on my note 5.
My verdict is they're nearly the same phone in terms of agility. S7 is what the S6 should have been. Note 5 is still more professional in my book. Just depends on what your use cases are. I use remote desktop from MS and chrome remote desktop daily and the larger screen and S pen make all the difference. I do like the slightly curved glass edges on the display of the S7, which is the single thing I wish the Note 5 did have. I can tell you that you will miss your Note 5 within an hour of using the S7 Due to the smaller screen.
The Edge series is pure gimmick and a complete rip off in terms of pricing.
I couldn't decide so I got both. Damn you AT&T!!!!!!!!

What are you thinking about getting? I am torn between going back to an iPhone or finding an Android phone that can have bloatware removed and gets updates fast. It seems like you have to compromise on anything you do with Android when you get a carrier branded device.

That may be true on getting rid of bloatware but then you have to deal with AT&T, or another carrier, and Samsung, or another manufacturer, on getting updates for your device.

Galaxy Note 7, 4GB ram, bother you?

The phone is top of the line and still only has 4GB ram. Is it bother you? Many other 6GB ram phones out there and cheaper
Doesn't bother me because I am limping along with a note 3 with wore out batteries

4gb ram vs 6gb doesn't matter. Batteries need to be bigger and prices are outrageous for a phone that loses 40% value within 3 months.

OP3 and Note 5 both performed the same before and after the ram hack. It doesn't matter as long as Samsung manages it right. Don't fall into the hype of a number.

That's because as Carl Pei explained, 2gb of ram in the OP3 are allocated to the camera only. Doesn't matter what OP3 has though. It is a fact that Note 7 is nothing special and is a waste of money device. Rather go with S7 Edge.

You can get it who cares. We aren't trying to convince you of anything. If it has 3500mah it won't top all any device buddy. So it Still remains the fact that the Note 7 this year is a step backwards and not worth it. Also android 7 comes out in august while note 7 will ship with old android and as you might know it will take them at least 5 months to upgrade

So what would you recommend above a Note ? I'm also waiting to break free from the Samsung Bandwagon.
6GB RAM was never leaked, it was assumed since Samsung Manufactured 6GB Ram, which is now in OP3. It was a guess initially which became a leaked spec after sometime. If it's 4GB, Be it 4GB, because my S7 Edge with 4GB never gave up on me.

I don't care about ram size because 4GB should be more than enough. I don't like that they went with smaller battery size on a phone that has bigger screen vs the S7 Edge. That is a no no to me. Also Note 7 users are considered power users so how does that battery fit to the needs of power users? It is not even removable. To each their own though. There are users that absolutely need to have the s-pen like the one that commented above you. They will get the Note 7 no matter what, although I have always had my doubts what exactly is that s-pen so useful for. I mean it is good to have, but it doesn't make much difference anyways. Even if you are an artist or w.e, I doubt you will draw everything on your Note.

I've used the Note Series since the Note 3, went through Note 4 and Note 5 and loved every minute of it. I stepped onto the S7 Edge, seduced by those curves, and thought I'd enjoy the slimmer footprint. I've been pretty happy with the S7 Edge, but I miss my S pen a ton. Which is why I'll be picking up the Note7 asap. I felt like the 4gb RAM in the Note5 was plenty with the exynos processor. The S7 Edge I feel has some slowdowns and multitasking issues with snapdragon. (This is why I secretly hope the US versions have exynos instead of snapdragon again like the Note5 did.)
That said, do we have any definitive evidence that these devices will be using exynos 8893, Snapdragon 820 or Snapdragon 821? That is what I'm more concerned about. 4GB of ram is plenty assuming the OS is optimized for it, and the storage solution on the device is fast.
Other side notes; when I first got the Note 3, people still looked at me funny because of the large size, but now everyone with their iphone 6 plus make the note series seem small in comparison. Now that big phones are in, I feel even more comfortable going for the Note7
Also, I already have my Spigen Note7 Case as of last saturday, so I'm excited to get this thing ordered. (Here's to hoping for a free GearVR or Fit and another year of netflix and samsung pay bonuses as well. (I'm pretty sure I made money selling my note4 and moving to my Note5.)
Interesting article. The note series was always a major step above the S series up until the note 5 fwiw.

4 gigs of ram is how much my 2011 Toshiba laptop has, it's all about how it feels in your hand, you can compare vehicles the same with horsepower but when it comes down to it you have to like the phone. Making a decision or judgement before you yourself have used the device for a day or week is most likely not going to be accurate. Go try it see if you like it. I'll bet it's faster than you think. Also remember samsung note series is much more mature than the plus phones out there. All other phones are following the note for its size 6 years of high end tech vs 1 year for the others look at the bending iPhone plus. Make sure you look at all of the differences not just the ones companies tout.

How does the Edge compare to note Edge in terms of functionality?
For example - Is it an independent second screen? Can it be made one icon thick, so it doesn't cover main screen?

Just curious.. Who's updating to note 7??

Just for convo.. Thx
I'm on the fence, but I'm leaning towards a No.
I'll tell you why:
1. It's smaller then my Note 5 (while the difference isn't big on paper, its big in hand.. and to be honest after Note 5 and realizing how much more screen real estate = more use/functionality/video/beauty, I now want a BIGGER screen vs smaller)
2. Only 3500 mah battery, really? for a screen that size.. I know I know.. its the stylist, but still .. what do I use more often.. a stylist or extra day of battery?.. Battery wins
3. It's expensive as hell and really has the same guts as S7 Edge.. so no bragging rights that its so much better
Note 7 alternatives I'm keeping my eye on:
1. Huawei Note 8 - 6.6 inches
2. Huawei Mate 8 - 6 inches
Why, so we can be locked out again. I am hoping for a bad ass nexus to drop

The Huawei Mate 8 display has only 1080x1920 resolution. The Huawei Note 8 display will have the same resolution as the Note5/7 (2560x1440), but at 6.6" it will be almost as large as my 7" tablet, which is good for many purposes but I would not want to carry it in my pocket.
I am, but I'm a sucker every year. It's just a bad habit at this point.
Honestly, though, the removable storage is the biggest reason. There's no way I'm going to ever use the iris scanner - it's four steps more than using thumbprint. But, I applaud the innovation!

Not to mention thE added benefits of new cpu technology. That is if you stay away from Qualcomm crap!
I personally went yesterday for the fun of it to check the note 7 at my local AT&T store and guess what ? My note 5 can dance in circles around it. Hated the edge and in all honesty it feels like an S7 edge with the pen in it. Nothing special and all the new features that they keep talking about can be easily implemented with a software update. So unless I get the nicer beefier version from China I'm going to pass and that always on display in ran into an app that works perfect with my note 5. And it's not that glance one.

Would you buy next years Samsung Phones without the S-Pen?

Ok, here's the deal. The reason I purchased the Note 7 was the S-Pen. All the other features like VR came along nicely, but to be frank, the real incentive for me was the Pen. Without it, I wouldn't give so much money for a phone. 4k VR? Rather wait for any other cheaper phone to catch up to 4k VR like maybe the google pixel or one plus 5 or something...
Since we are in the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 forums and not the S7 or S7 Edge forums, it means that you guys reading this opted to wait a few months to get the Note 7 specifically instead the S7 or S7 Edge. So, I figured that maybe these guys here are also hooked on the S Pen.
Thus the following question...
Let say that next years Samsung Flagship Big Screen Phones have no S-Pen... Would you still buy one?

Knowing myself, I may end up with it... that said, a Note without pen would be a bit useless, it's one of their main selling points, so I don't see why they would ever do that.

Yea. The pen wasn't the issue with the Note 7s. But just saying I think people are curious if that's a do or don't cutoff point for some people. I thought I'd have a lot of issues with this s7 edge after being an avid note user the past few years. I've been fine actually. Now, of course I'd love a pen again but for now this works.

For sure. It's why I'm back to Note 5. There is no way to effectively take lengthy notes during meetings for me. I tried using deterrent capacitive styli, but it just didn't work.
I'm hooked on my s-pen. I will say at least the Note 7 tips feel really nice in my Note 5 stylus.
No
I don't use the S-Pen all that much actually. So the next Samsung phone without the stylus is definitely an option.
That said, I'm also not a Samsung loyalist. I've had my hands on several smartphone brands, starting with HTC, Motorola, Xiaomi and Sony. And I've never gave LG a go, so I'm getting the V20 next.
I just won't get an Apple. Android's flexibility in file management is just too damn good for me to use iPhone as my daily driver.
no, I want the pen and slightly bigger screen without the useless curves.
If it was at least 5.7 screen, IP68 and coral blue then yes, reluctantly. Would greatly prefer it with the s-pen.
I'm not buying the s8 without an s pen. There are too many good and cheaper alternatives. The OnePlus3, the up coming Mate9, why spend lots on phones that have no major differentiator (which the note series was).
Without S-pen, I would look elsewhere. Many a phone out there without the premium pricing and good specs.

I'm not quite sure why anyone would pay for a note and NOT get the stylus it is the biggest factor that separates the Note from the S series.
The answer is no; if there is never another stylus phone (very unlikely) I will probably stick to LG. Removable battery and external memory on every model? Yes please. Allows me to get batteries beyond factory capacities.
Removable battery means no planned obsolescence (which is exactly why manufacturers put in the non removable design to push you to upgrade when the battery dies).
