Does the 4G motherboard fit in a WiFI version housing? - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

So I've got a SM-P600 32Gb Wifi tablet, and the WIFI has stopped working on it. Already tried factory restore, etc. but nothing helps, so I'm quite sure it's a hardware issue.
I'm not finding any available motherboards or screen broken tablets of the WiFI version available on ebay to replace the board. However there are quite a few 4G model ones available for a good price. Does anyone know if the form factor of the motherboard is the same across both versions? I'm not planning to use the 4G, I just want to know if the board will fit in my tablet assuming I steal it from a smashed up one.
Thanks in advance.

I've never dissected my Note so I couldn't give you pointers. However, you are aware how risky that is.
Taking parts from the boneyard and putting them into your WiFi version won't give it 4G. The devices are fundamentally different.
I have a safer alternative. Use a USB modem in conjunction with OTG.
Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk

I'm talking about swapping the whole motherboard because the one that's in there is toast (wifi/bluetooth chip is toast). I could care less about 4G, as I made abundantly clear in my original post. I'm not worried about any "risk" factor, as the device is a brick w/o WiFi. It has no method to access the internet at all.
My question is only if the 4G motherboard will fit in the WiFi case. I'm betting it does as I see an unused connector on the board which I'm guessing connects up to either an antenna or 4G board in the other version. Worst case I can just buy one of the 4G ones with a broken screen and use my screen to replace that screen.

OK, I think I found my answer. Finally managed to find a picture of the 4G board on ebay, and it's identical layout with the exception of a little L-shaped piece that sticks out of the right side. I can see that in the housing there is a place for that little L shape to lay, and off of that I can see where the antenna wire is supposed to lay.
I'm going to buy one of these boards and go for it. Will report back when I definitely confirm it's compatible.

Check whether the display is compatible with both pcbs. This can be determined by checking spare parts ads.
Then there is the missing opening for the sim slot and probably a missing 4G antenna(which may just consist of pcb traces anyway).

OK, I confirmed that the motherboard is definitely compatible and all fits in there perfectly!
I did have to transfer over the little board where the sim card and microSD card go as there was no channel soldered on where the sim card holder belonged. Also had to use the silver rim from the 4G version one so I'd have the little sim card slot.
Other than that was pretty much just swapping the motherboard out and adding in the antenna wire/board. Now I've got a fully functional 4G version (even though I'm only going to be using WiFi).

[Q] Evo additional antennas?

has anyone noticed that when you take the batter cover of the evo there two holes on the right side of the handset that you can see two antenna connections. anyone think maybe you can use these antennas: http://cgi.ebay.com/Tyco-Universal-...-PCI-U-FL-/280359933530?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0 to boost signal or what are they for?
well, i think what you are referring to is the antenna connectors they use in the factory to test gps/4g/wifi. You would have to find the scematic to discover which one is for the wifi. Even then, since most likely the antennas that wrap around the outside of the back casing are connected to those ports, I am not sure if they would be powerful enough to make a difference in the reception.
But, you have me interested so I am looking around.

They look the same as the ones on my netbook internal wireless card thats why I think the antennas would fit. But like you said even they might of been for testing and might not even help and btw if you look closley thru two vent on the right side on back of evo youll see the connections are open and nothing seems to be connected!
I believe those are test ports. But you could connect an antenna to it, but you would have to make a matching/phasing array for the external antenna to properly couple. Otherwise your impedence will be out of whack, and you will probably get zero reception, as well as possibly damage the transmitter output. Since we are talking very low power you will also have to contend with line loss going to the external antenna. All in all I wouldn't bother.
Yeah I prob wouldnt was just curious if anyone had any ideas.

External Antenna

Anyone ever use one? If so, what do you think of this?

Not interest in saving my brain, but in extending my 3G and 4G range.
I'm a little interested as well. For $50, it had better give great reception.

I would think that it plus into that jack on the bottom back of the TBolt.
Looks to have a rubber plug in it now.
I thought that was covering a screw
Has anyone tried either of these or any other similar device? I recently moved and now my signal has gone to hell (I'm lucky if I get one bar), so I'm seriously considering one of these.
Any reviews/feedback?

I know on the droid and several other phones, there are little Antenna diversity jacks so that you can plug in extended or high-gain antennas (usually underneath the battery covers). I have seen the metal connectors (but not in a standardized form) on the inside of the case that connect to the antenna leads inside the back cover. You could potentially solder some leads from those to a proper antenna connecter that you mount on the back of the phone or inside one of those rubber fitted screw-holes. Then you could plug in and unplug your external antenna. As far as standardized connectors for external antennas, I don't think the T-Bolt has one.
emailed that site. heres what they said:
The is a small plastic cover, about 1/4" in diameter, on the back
of the phone. You may remove, very carefully, with a needle, and
the antenna port will be exposed.
Notice, however, that we recommend using the ExtAntPro™ adapter
with the Thunderbolt, because of the very small antenna port. The
regular adapter, which comes with the antennas, falls off very
easily, although it does still work.

they seem to think that cover isnt hiding just a screw, even tho htc says its just a screw. i feel that htc rep might be wrong tho. i might just have to tear my cover off to figure it out once and for all.
edit: ok that htc person is stupid. ITS AN ANTENNA PORT FOR SURE. watch this vid:

Hello, I second that. I had these antennas for a couple years. I never found the antenna connection on the last couple phones I had, so I never even cared to pull the rubber plug, but it is indeed the antenna plug, these antennas work great, special during long drives, or for when I visit relatives who live in the woods, with a very weak signal. Thanks!
nope not covering a screw i double checked
I would never hook up an external antenna to a phone again. I did it once with my old Samsung Epix, and while it improved the signal when I disconnected the antenna I lost all service, so my phone was basically useless after connecting it.
What about a signal repeater, my office uses them and they work great! our corp office is outside of town so weak signal. Get to work and go inside you get full bars - kinda weird when you notice it. They are place on windows on every floor look just like the external antenna but only have a power cord coming off it.

We have one of these at my work as well. Great signal outside, but not so much in the basement of the building. As soon as we moved into that building, getting one of these installed was a top priority of mine. It made a HUGE difference, although mostly for non-VZW!

Has anyone else noticed what look like antenna ports behind the battery cover? The battery cover isn't supposed to function as an antenna like the Thunderbolt, is it? Mine definitely doesn't have any contacts.

Its possible that they are ports for a wireless charging system that may come out for the nexus. I have noticed more phones are incorporating it in from beginning.

It does look like port for antenna, I don't think its for wireless charging back.
Those ports are used by the carriers to hook up their test equipment during the phone testing and certification process.

This is correct those are not really intended to be used as external antenna/amplifier ports. Those of you who want a correct connector it may be found here: wpsantennas.com
WARNING: Those connectors are really fragile and I have had to resolder a new connector after one of mine got stuck 'open' (wpsantennas put up a warning for that adapter).
I'm curious given all the talk of poor signal issues with the GNex... Would it be possible / beneficial to connect to one of these ports and coil / attach something to the battery door? I am certainly not suggesting I go experimenting, but if after research it turns into, buy this adapter, cut here, buy this, solder, attach here... that would awesome. Even a little improvement would make many people happy I think.
I have the GSM version of the gnex and I only have 1 antenna port on the back of my phone.
I've tried connecting a wireless antenna but the connection is too small, the gnex connection is a bit bigger than your standard wireless connector plug.
I'm assuming you need something special to plug into it ')

Gnex connections
Based on my 1 yr. of robotics, I would say (just guessing ) that L1 and L2 stand for Line1(neg.) and Line2(pos.) and G(ground). As to C1 and C2, no idea. All these are probably intended for trained techs and could potentially turn your phone into a paper weight if used incorrectly. Just sayin'

Once you attach an Antenna, it will open that port and it will be sick open meaning it won't ever work again without an Antenna. A friend of mine did this to the epic 4g

I have been inside Gnex many times. I don't recall off my head how that specific piece attaches to board but...I would imagine it's do-able? On my GSM Gnex(first time I took it apart ---- GSM and LTE have differences) I tore the volume rocker button cable...LONG story short I had a local cell phone dr place solder a new volume cable on. I provided the part...The solder points were like tip of a needle sized, and somehow they did it.
TLDR; I am sure their is a way if your willing to do it. I had a place to order Sammy genuine OEM parts from relatively decently priced somewhere...
Good Luck!
EDIT: All that being said with fact that Sammy didn't see something wrong your naked eye does NOT?
Edit EDIT: Place I ordered parts from(http://cellphone-repair-shop.com) doesn't even show SIM card socket...(I had to replace the Charge port board on my LTE Gnex...So much cheaper/easier than warranty/waiting etc)
I may be stuck selling it for parts. I can't find anyone who can replace it for a reasonable amount. Darn it. I guess I will do without my nexus and see what's google brings at the end of the month for the next nexus. Hopefully there will be one besides the LG model!

I actually had one of my SIM pin connectors broken just two weeks ago. Damn SIM adapter got caught with it and it just folded up and broke. Luckily I had the luck to recover the broken part and had it soldered back at a Samsung Service Center. Cost me around $4.00 though, but definitely a steal compared to having to replace the board.
i can fix them .... i have done quite a few for nexus and note owners on xda without a complaint.... havent vioded a warranty!! which means i promise you its as clean as the factory soldering job... message me if you need one fixed... thanks!

Hi, I just want to revive this thread rather than start a new one.
I am gonna swap my my usb charging port for a one I bought on eBay. Does anyone have any tips I should know about that you can tell me?
I'm going by this youtube video. this is all I got and of course I'm kinda scared.:crying:
Thanks. Will check back later.
Easy to do, but will cause other issues
Hi. I too have just brought a note with this problem.
The replacement is easy, remove battery cover, battery sim etc. Take out the screws, use something thin to pries the edge off. Its the lip below the screen level though. After that, 3 more screws for the bottom section, then take out the one screw in the thin motherboard piece. Slide out the old flex, slide in the new one, re assemble.
The biggest problem is that youll most likely lose 80 % of your reception from it. When the phone is open, try to see if there is any corrosion behind your USB port, if there is clean it and try it. I did that as im sending my ebay one back for a replacement, Now my old one seems to be working, but for how long, i dont know.

I bought a battery charger and extra battery. I bought the brand Hyperion but I've heard there are better brands. Anyway, I don't charge my phone any more... I just swap batteries now. One is always on the charger and one in the phone. It works fantastically and further, the phone always has a charge. When I want to swap files I remove the card and put it in the PC. Works really good.

To be honest I still haven't got a perfect replacement yet but one that is at least functional (get werid noises during phone calls - not on my end but on whoever is calling me).
You do have to make sure you get the correct board though. If you look on the original board it should have some writing in gold near the top. Mine said Rev 1.0 so I got replacements which were rev 1.0 too. Apparently there are other revisions (although I didn't come across any others).
