Bestbuy guy said verizon versions will be unlocked. True or false? - Verizon Note 7 Questions & Answers

Anyone heard anything about verizon Note 7 being unlocked in BestBuy?

What he probably meant is that it is SIM unlocked. Almost all Verizon smart phones now are classified as World Phones which means they are SIM unlocked to be used anywhere in the world on a GSM network. This does not mean that they will have the bootloader unlocked.

Yeah as mentioned above he probably just meant carrier unlocked. Even as far back as the S5 Verizon phones have been unlocked to use any carrier, apart from sprint because they suck.

Best Buy employees don't even know a bootloader exists.

When I was an SES at a few different best buys, we had a guy that was telling Customers that if he liked iOS, he could just install it on a Samsung. After calling him out on it, he told me I was an idiot and that he has done it. LOL

The idiot probably thought an iOS theme for nova is the same as iOS. Unless it actually has been done, I remember years ago my friend had to dual boot Android on his iPhone 3G to jailbreak his ps3 lol.

Lmfao that's hilarious

4G Verizon phones are always sim unlocked but that's the only unlocked we'll have. No bootloader unlocked or anything else

So question would be is it or would it be best to buy from Samsung or Verizon? because i am hoping if i buy from Samsung then i will get all the missing stuff that verizon took away?

Part of Samsung's new security features, unlocked bootloaders will never be offered on major carrier networks in USA regions. This is why TMO devices have locked bootloaders today.

If you buy a Verizon phone from Samsung it will still be the same as any other Verizon N7. If you want it to work on Verizon and have all the original features you'll need to wait on the N930U to be released.

So the question... The oem unlock toggle doesn't do anything.. Just curious.. Mine toggles

If so, will it be easy to get rid of?

Not necessarily. Three UK have said that their Galaxy Nexii are locked.
i have the Nexus S, and no, it was never locked in any shape or form
you either get the GSM version of the CDMA version
that's all
just like the new GN, you either go for the GSM version, or the CDMA version
This is, I have one waiting for me to buy at the O2 store, the kind helper said he'd keep it for me until I arrive....

i spoke to 3 yesterday, spoke to a couple of their representatives to confirm if there was a SIM lock on the phone, they confirmed that there was
Vodaphone said their Nexus S are locked, but they weren't. The stupid O2 Customer Services say all O2 phones are sim locked.
Some are lock and some aren't. Same as the nexus s.
I would personal always presume network direct phones will be locked unless told otherwise.
Meh, I'll just have to put my GiffGaff in it if it is, until I get SuperCID on it.
just buy it from retailers that offers unlocked version to avoid problem then.
don't give business to 3, and let them die a painful and slow death by locking their phones

I'm not buying it from 3, I'm buying from O2......and I refuse to wait another 7 days for it.
3 will always be locked unless you get it from CPW ect. And there firmware is usually written pretty deep into the phone.
its either Phones4U or another independent now, or wait 2 weeks until CPW are allowed to sell it on all Networks. The rest are going to be Network Locked, I'm going to Jamaica January and do not want to be stuck on some waiting for Updates O2 Firmware so no way in hell am I getting it from O2 Direct.
They told me it was OK lol got my unlock code in less than 24 hours.

[Q] Sprint Galaxy Note 4 -- LTE Bands? Uniband? Dual-band? Tri-band?

One of the biggest reasons I didn't buy the Sprint Galaxy Note 3 was because of the device only supporting uniband LTE.
Do we know what kind of antennas the Sprint Note 4 will have from the FCC filings? I am hoping it's Tri-band. :good:
Here is a link to all of the documents if someone who knows what they're doing can gleen an answer:

I might have answered my own question, but confirmation would be nice:
I found these:
* LTE Band 26
* LTE Band 25 (PCS)
* LTE Band 41
It also appears to support MIMO Wifi
Yes it's going to be triband and thus spark enabled.

Sprint note 4?
Lets see if sprint locks the sim down on this phone just like they did on the note 3, if so, I will NOT purchase this handset. Samsung is trying the apple approach when it comes to developing its own eco system, giving users less options; Is anyone else hear worried about the sim lock? What about the new KNOX? I really dont want to go through all that again, ughhh

By sim lock do you mean not being able to use it on other carriers domestically?
As far as my understanding goes, isn't a bigger issue a locked bootloader than Knox since sprint could probably care less about Knox being tripped?

That as well
We still dont have a way to unlock the N3 ( without sprint international or domestic ) So I assume it will be the same way on the N4. Lock bootloader im not so much concerned about, only because i doubt it will come with one. ( I could be wrong and if i am i apologize in advance lol ) If it comes with a locked bootloader, then i will simply rma it and not use my upgrade, ditch sprint and head to tmobile.

Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding what you said but to use your phone internationally all you have to do is call sprint for the unlock code. For domestic purposes sprint won't unlock it until after Feb 2015 for phones made after that date
Yeah I don't forsee the bootloader being unlocked but hopefully some devs will find a way around it? One can hope at least. Either way I'll stick with the note 4 as I'm coming from the s3 and got a good family plan so no plans of switching carriers.

My dear xda friend, you cant unlock the sim for international use if you are on the sprint easy pay program, even i fyou purchased your phone out right ( in my case anyway ) i have 3 lines with sprint and they wont allow me to unlock them, so i am s.o.l, even if i wasnt on easy pay, they told me that i have an old account that has an unsettled debt so they wont unlock it, even though it was proven to be fraud in court.
Thats even more of a reason to terminate service. im really disappointed with cell phone manufacturers, especially samsung, how do you not include usb 3.0 and temp and humidity sensors, some people actually use these for work, guess ill be sticking with my N3

Wasn't sprint the only carrier to send out the S5 with unlocked bootloader? So why would t-mobile leave the Note 4 alone but lock the S5? For me im good as long as there is a root but I also don't mind TW roms.

Sprint released news a while back about devices manufactured in 2015 will be " unlockable" but the funny thing is, the law allowing you to unlock your phone expires next year< end of 2015. So sprint is trying to dodge that bullet, and im pretty sure the note 4 wont be unlockable

on what carrier you are planing to use it? You cannot use sprint Galaxy note 4 on domestic GSM carriers like AT&T, T-mobile and their MVNOs (Straighttalk , etc). The phone can be unlocked for international GSM use (voice and 3G only, not LTE). Internationla unlock can be done officially through Sprint or unofficially via app in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...print-samsung-unlocker-unlock-sprint-t2928250
My question is how did you come across a Sprint Note 4? Did you not do your homework before acquiring the Sprint Note 4? Maybe you somehow got the phone for free? Why would somebody actually pay for a nice phone (released only a month or so ago) without knowing if it will work on a completely different network/carrier... then turn around and look for help on how to activate it on a GSM carrier? This makes no sense to me.
Im curious too.
Can a Sprint phone be unlocked and set up for use on ANY other carrier in the USA,
ie: Verizon?
No no no

I am pretty sure that if the phone had a clean ESN that you can activate it on Ting Mobile. I have also saw a thread where someone had flashed a T-Mobile Rom to the Sprint note 4 but they where not getting LTE of course I'm sure in time someone will come out with something stable.

Off topic here.
I came up for upgrade in June. I was gonna go Nexus 5 and then the Nexus 6 rumors started to fly. So I waited and along came the Note 4. After much research I ended up with arguably the best phone on the planet. Imo it is.
Unlock Code
I am in Canada, got this as xmas gift from my father in law
You can root and try Galaxy Tools 4 root users https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idone.galaxymenu
Or you can use this app from the S5 thread you don't need root with this app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2928250

1. No
2. Customers can switch devices by calling on a different phone to CS or going into store and switch devices, no unlocking necessary.
3. Just switch Sim cards and edit and tweak where necessary or pay someone if you dont know how.
4. Correct, but no unlocking necessary.
5. That depends on the person.

Yes yes yes it can be used with other carriers in the USA. Are people forgetting about flashing of modems and firmware. What decade are we in 1960? Our maybe 1950 when phone were still two way radios. Remember sprint can't stop everything Samsung does in making their phone. Ask the right questions to right people get right answer. If someone in XDA hasn't figured it out yet just wait & keep on looking. XDA is also not the only place to look for answers to everything Samsung, sometimes Samsung is were to look or Samsung blogs. All I hear is everyone that talks about Samsung first thing everyone says is it CAN'T be done. When are the tech, crackers, & hackers of this world going to stop saying everything is impossible & realize we are the ones that make everything possible. If we are going to do that why do we become techs or crackers or hackers or even developers in the every first place?.... LET'S STOP PUTTING LIMITS ON OU OURSELVES & SHOW SPRING WHAT WE CAN DO! Sprint is not GODZ. We created what sprint & Every carrier in the world uses to try to put limitations one everyone with. Are we going to let the carriers use or phones against us or are we going to use them the way the phone manufactures wanted the phones to be used ( without restrictions of the carriers of the world.)
after unlocking your sprint device you can only use it with carriers outside the USA. If you are planning to use it with local sim cards after unlocking like at&t and t-mobile (gsm) then you cannot.

Umm if its not under payments u can
Yep once the phone is paid for per new laws that went active in Feb or March if you ask the carrier to domestic unlock your phone they are required to do it by law. Some models this will not be possible but the note 4 should. I think the carriers have a grace period to make this available. Not sure how long. I could quote the legislation but Id have to search for it.

B to the S. If you can unlock a 720t a note 4 can be unlocked!! Period!! It picks up signal just no antenna for that signal because the phone antenna is tuned in the wrong station or radius degree. I think if the people who can unlock 720t s can try the same methods with busy box or Verizon modems. Like guy said earlier " Si se puede"!! It can be done!! Just need to tweak frequency angles and remove face security options a little.
By law you can have it unlocked for a limited time, but that will not make the LTE radio magically work on your carriers band unless they support the same band. Or unless you know someone who can JTAG flash the radio to another carrier as well you will not be able to use the LTE/DATA band on a carrier that does not support the frequency. This is nothing something that can be done over USB or by a new kernel. This will have to be done with JTAG and by someone who has access to the various carriers radio firmware which is tightly guarded. So basically you will be using a Note 4 on 3G only. Might as well just sign up with SPRINT then, you will get the same service speed.

Can the bootloader on an Unlocked att Note 4 be unlocked

Hi,
I know there is no way to unlock the bootloader on an att Note 4, but if ATT unlocks it would it become an International Version and can the bootloader be unlocked? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

(In all realness, no of course not. ATT ain't that nice nor will it ever be. You can unlock the phone in terms of cellular network but that's it.)

Well, I just sent a return request for one of the note 4's. AND just bought a USED sm910T from ebay.
So, instead of me getting a brand new AT&T UNMODDABLE note 4, I will be getting a used but in great condition T-Mobile note 4.
And if I can get out of the restocking fees from the return, I will come out 50 bucks ahead. Cool.
The other new note 4 went to my daughter for xmas, and she already broke the screen. DOH!!
I lucked out this time I guess.
Cheers all.

Yeah man, I'ved used At&t for years. Some phones still ended up rooting and unlocked (Sky-Rocket, LG E970, and Note II) this is the 1st phone I purchased that couldn't be rooted to install ROMs and Mods. Very annoyed but glad to know after this experience we know not to buy from At&t directly. Either buy unlocked form Swappa, eBay or Amazon or know that you will be limited when you buy from carrier. In the mean time if you really want out, pay the bill so its clear for selling, and sell it online or in person. Also you can wait it out until the next upgrade.

Never again for me, not directly from AT&T & maybe not Samsung. [AT&T-Captivate, and VZ-Note2..rooted and other ROM'd but now ]. Question: what aspect of the hardware allows a carrier's specific bands of LTE to function? Or is it that the hardware is fully "plastic", capable of any LTE banding given the software[albeit locked] and SIM[mine unlocked] ? There are multiple Note4's. AT&Ts also runs UMTS and GSM. T's? Verizon's also runs its EV-DO. Perhaps these 2G, and 3G aspects become irrelevant and the 4G/LTE buildout completes, but the question remains over capability on carrier specific LTE bands.
With my SIM unlocked Note4 I used a VODA SIM this summer in Italy, but don't recall whether I had access to LTE , or evn which data mode functioned.
Ok, I hope I don't get in trouble for asking this here. . I tried to search but I'm not real good on this phone yet. . That's no excuse, I know. ..
Anyway, I received my T-Mobile Note 4 today and I want to root it right away as I am an owner of titanium backup and rom toolbox.
I am wondering if there is an easy way to root my device without installing a custom kernel AND not require a pc?
If I have to use a custom kernel, which one is the most stable?
My device specs are
SM-N910T3
Android 5.1.1
LMY47X.N910T3UVU1DOK2
KNOX 2.4.1
I have data turned off on my phone and disabled data from my carrier. I use WiFi and no data. .
Again I'm sorry for asking this but it's been a real long time since I have installed custom anything and my pc blue screens randomly so I'm afraid to try rooting my phone that way.
Please, step by step, easy tutorial or a link to where I need to go?
Thanks a bunch.

Since we are on the subject of bootloaders. It's been a while since I flashed a custom rom on a phone. But from what I remember, isn't the bootloader these pictures that I attached? I took pictures on my AT&T Note 4.
Thanks
Yes i have read the whole thing.
Ok, to cut a long story short;
i bought a note 4 on an online australian shop for $470 (really hard without a job)
Anyway, they noted that their phones are from GENUINE Suppliers and i got a Note 4 UNLOCKED from, you guessed it. AT&T.
Now i wasnt too fussed. I was happy i got a note 4 that wasnt a chinese brick phone, since it technically was refurbished from their Hong Kong Warehouse. Anyways
After like...idk 2 months? approx? i decided i wanna root it. Guess what?! BOOTLOADER. WHAT THE ***T!!
Anyway, i spoke to some people, one said he hasnt rooted a phone passed gen 6. and the other person said 'no cant root. Bootloader is locked and no way to bypass.'
Soo im wondering if its possible to root the phone without removing bootloader? I dont restart my phone much and the whole bootloader doesnt worry me so im just curious if i can chuck a stock rom on without worrying about the bootloader.
Some background info:
I am Australian, therefore my phone is running under Australian networks (Boost, Lyca, Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, etc)
It is filled with unwanted, unnecessary AT&T bloatware.

Ok, to cut a long story short;
i bought a note 4 on an online australian shop for $470 (really hard without a job)
Anyway, they noted that their phones are from GENUINE Suppliers and i got a Note 4 UNLOCKED from, you guessed it. AT&T.

AT&T note 4 update?
I'm seeing the most recent updates being in 2016. Is there any new updates on the progress of unlocking bootloader for this device?

Hi,
I know there is no way to unlock the bootloader on an att Note 4, but if ATT unlocks it would it become an International Version and can the bootloader be unlocked? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Ripping encrypted DVDs (or DVDs locked to a region) = unlocked
PlayStation 3 = reverse engineered
iPhone = jailbroken
Why isn't the AT&T Note4 unlocked yet? Would offering a bounty help? Is it impossible to unlock? Is it a matter of time? Is it a matter of throwing lots of computation power against the lock?
What will finally get the AT&T Note4 unlocked?

With that, the ATT Note 4 may very well be, the most secure mobile phone ever!

Is there no bounty offered? If each ATT Note4 owner chips in a few dollars, we could raise a bounty of several hundred dollars. Then some tech-wiz can take much time trying to unlock the bootloader.
Anybody else willing to contribute to a bounty?

Will Verizon unlock the Pixel?

If you own the phone and there's no balance why can't Verizon unlock it so that I can unlock the bootloader? I have a Tmobile Oneplus 6t as well and I purchased it outright and the TMobile Rep unlocked it for me. Has anyone ever called Verizon to unlock the Pixel?
I've used my pixel on T-Mobile without any issues.

That is true I am also using the Verizon variante on TMobile but what I'm saying is my TMobile OnePlus 6t came with a greyed out OEM Unlock option. So I called TMobile and told them I want the phone unlocked and they did it. I just had to factory reset the phone and the option was no longer greyed out. So I'm wondering why can't Verizon do the same for the Pixel? I mean I do own the phone out right no finance.
Verizon will not allow the bootloader unlock and I highly doubt any devs are looking into it either.

That's stupid specially if I own the phone, it's like they still have control over it even though I own it. I guess that's what I get for being impatient and rushing to get the Pixel instead ordering it from Google and waiting on the shipping
I'm in the same boat but to be honest the whole point of a pixel in my opinion is to get a pure Google experience.. I don't have a valid reason to root to be honest. Also my work apps won't work on a rooted phone so might as well be bootloader locked
As I'm in Ireland and bought the 3xl while on a work trip on launch day I'm tempted to see if Verizon might unlock it for me.. really it's not making much difference to me

So please elaborate. You bought the phone from Verizon to use on another network? How and why would you do that? If I wasn't on VZW I'd never get the phone from them... oh wait, did you buy it from BB, i.e. the VZW version on discount? If so you probably need to return it if it's still possible. If not then you are locked forever. Only way is to sell it and buy another. Yes, you own the phone but they own the discount you got from BB and basically you're screwed. Damn that sucks man.

When I say I bought it outright I mean no discount, I paid just over $1000 for the pixel 3xl from best buy but it's all good I'll sell it and buy another one from google
Mine unlocked within 10 hours after purchase. I've read that all their phones were locked to Verizon before they're sold to prevent theft.

He's talking about the SIM card.
VZW will not and has never unlocked a BL on any phone that had a locked BL. They say it protects their nerwork... More like they hate people hacking their apps and loosing money.
Last unlocked BL they sold was Nexus 6... Correct me, cuz I did zero research on this... Just my cloudy damaged memory

Thread: Pixel 3 XL Questions and Answers...
Question: Will Verizon unlock the Pixel?
I thought that's what he meant, I asked for clarification.
As for the bootloader, no they will not. I just moved to Pixel 3 XL after getting an OG Verizon PIxel XL right after launch (actually immediately after the dePixel exploit was published or I would have purchased direct from Google or chose another phone). This same discussion along with the same "it's not fair since I own the device" arguments has been going on for years. Look at Huawei for evidence that bootloader locking is becoming more restrictive and not less. You can only purchase the device outright, and even they have discontinued the bootloader code request system. Eventually an exploit might come around, but maybe it won't. jcase pretty much said the original dePixel find was an accident, and it took another year and a half or so to find another for a phone that was already being replaced. Either take a risk that one will be found knowing that it might never come, or bite the bullet and buy a Google version or a 6T (where even if you get it at full price from T-Mobile you might have to wait to get BL and carrier unlock).

Does it protect their network if I never accept any OTA updates because such updates could fix any exploits that eventually will be used to allow me to root the phone that I bought and own?
I mean, I'm just wondering what they would say/do if a lot of people start telling them point blank that they are going to boycott all security and other updates until they allow BL unlocking.

Easy answer. They don't care about consumer opinion until results are felt. They are concerned with brand, lawsuits , and corporate spending. Look at it this way, this thread was last posted on (by me) over a year ago, and there hasn't even been a sniff of an exploit or getting Big Red to change even once.
Once, a long time ago, Verizon carried bootloader unlockable phones. My Nexus 6 was from Verizon and it was fantastic. Google made a marketing decision for Verizon to push the Pixel OG exclusively, Verizon forced them to make a varient that could be locked down and full of Verizon crapware, just like every phone on their network. OG, 2, 3 and now 4, sold by Verizon will never get natively unlocked. The only hope would be a temp root solution and being able to toggle the unlock in developers options.
6 years ago unlocked "dev" phones weren't readily available, but Google sells an unlockable version now, with financing if you want, most people that want root just buy that.
