Fingerprint senor only wakes, doesn't unlock - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

This is what is happeing to me. If my phone is locked for more than 20 minutes or so, when I use my fingerprint to unlock the phone, it only wakes th phone, I.e.turns the backlight on, but doesn't unlock it.
The fingrprint registers correctly, as the screen wouldn't wake otherwise. I'm struggling to understand what the problem could be.. maybe its Go Launcher? Maybe its lightflow? Or someway around notifications?

do u have a pin set up or pattern

Yes I do. When I use my fingerprint, it takes me to the screen to input my PIN

I had the same issue when I turned on douple tap to sleep in novalauncher. Once I disabled it, the fingerprint reader unlocked my phone, not taking me to the pattern screen. Its certainly a software problem, I guess it's your launcher.

I'm using a older version of Go Launcher EX (5.09). Its very old, but does the job for me.. unfortunatly it doesn't have the double tap option.
I'll try disabling it and see if th problem persists
Edit:
With the Google Now launcher, when I use this app to lock, the same problem occurs. I lock by clicking the app, but then when I try to unlock using fingerprint, it takes me to the PIN screen

If you want to use fingerprint unlock function, you need to install FingerprintEnabler xposed module. Else the fingerprint to screen on and ask for pin or pattern is the default behavior..!

[Q] Widget Locker Help

I have been trying to get Widget Locker working on my One but have hit an issue. I am thinking I may not be able to fix this without Root but I wanted to run it by the community to verify.
I have my phone linked to an Exchange server that forces a 4 digit pass-code onto the device. So from the default lock screen I swipe up and then get the keypad to unlock the device.
Widget Locker replaces the main screen and 60% of the time when I unlock the device it takes me to the keypad directly.
The other 40% of the time is the issue. When I unlock from Widget Locker it takes me to the default screen where I would swipe up. From this point I can ether swipe up and unlock or shut off the screen. When I try again it usually works perfectly.
Is there any way to get consistent behavior from Widget Locker without root? What I would expect would be to unlock and be taken to the keypad 100% of the time.
I would love to use widget locker, but I always get a 3-7 second delay with turning on my phone. Sorry I can't help you.

Go into Settings and set the HTC lockscreen to none. It forces the phone to only use WL, and you never see the stock lockscreen. Works for me,

That kills the security on the phone. We need to have ether a pin or password unlock to secure the device. Even without it I would want a pattern unlock at the least to keep it somewhat safe.
I expanded my search a bit and this seems to be a common problem on phones that have any sort of lockscreen security. What I cant understand is why it does work some times, but not others. It does not appear to be a timing issue but I cannot narrow down what else would randomly (apparently random) trigger the stock lock screen yet work other times.

No, it doesn't. The HTC lockscreen and the Security lockscreen are two different things. You can have the HTC lockscreen set to none, and still have the option to unlock with any of the various lock methods(i.e. PIN, Pattern, Face Unlock, etc...) I know this is true because I use it everyday. I use WL, have my HTC lockscreen set to none, and still have to enter a PIN to unlock my phone. And have no delay when using WL once the phone is booted.

And I am an idiot. You are completely correct. I am trying it now, thank you.
Edit: Working like a charm. If anybody else is having this issue the setting is under Personalize, lock screen style.
Thanks again!

Using Gravity Screen to wake phone when you pick it up

I was searching for a way to make Tasker wake phone when I pick it up, so I just have to at it to unlock it. In looking into this, I discovered Gravity Screen, which amongst other things, can wake your phone when you pick it up, straight to Face Unlock. It seems to work well but I'm not sure of the impact on battery. I'm not using it to lock the screen... Really only using it for the one thing.

I've been using this app on my last two phones in order to be able to double tap the home screen on my launcher (Action Launcher) to turn off the screen, WITHOUT locking the phone. For some reason though, this no longer works on the OP5T, double tapping just simply won't trigger the screen off shortcut. Really disappointed in this, are you able to get this to work on yours?
I do also use its proximity sensor feature so that it automatically turns the screen on upon removal from my pocket, and it turns the screen back off once I put the phone back into my pocket, which triggers the angle needed to turn the screen off. That feature still works as intended, and better yet, preps the screen for the face unlock. And as far as I can tell, hardly uses any extra battery.

Hmmm... I use Nova Launcher and I use the double tap to lock the phone. I've never wanted it to not lock. I wasn't aware that there is a double tap action in Gravity Screen? I'll have a look.

It's not really within Gravity Screen itself, you'd have to use the launcher to set up the double tap on home screen to a shortcut. From there, you can pick one of Gravity Screen's shortcuts that allow you to either just turn off the screen, or do a persistent off screen, where you have to use the power button to bring it back on. I believe the problem I had with using the double tap to lock screen feature built into the launchers is that it forces you to have to enter in a password afterwards...face unlock or fingerprint do not work.

Hmmm. Not true with Nova. I double tap to lock and I can use fingerprint to unlock. However, I believe that I requires root for this lock method. Do you have root?

Nope, I don't have root. I did try the same shortcuts with Nova, and it didn't work there either.
have used the app on my old OPO.. now on 5T it's just perfect.. just pick up the phone.. and prepare for landing on homescreen without any tap or button press
does not consume a lot of battery
I've used this in the past as a way to turn on the screen when it comes out of my pocket
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tf.wakeongesture
This application wakes up your phone, and it works well on my OP5T, it's called "Always on AMOLED"you can download it from F-Droid open source apps, Yalp Store and Google Play. I like that it is low on resources, double tap wake up screen option, lock screen clock, date, battery, custom message and notifications.

Strange issue with face unlock

I've got Nova Launcher installed and when I lock the screen using a nova lock screen widget, after two seconds it automatically unlocks the screen again and goes back to home screen.
It's clearly related to face unlock because when I cover the camera with a finger, the phone stays locked and doesn't unlock itself again.
When I change nova's unlock method to "admin" everything works fine but this method requires a Pin to unlock so I don't want to use it. The "accessibility" method is much preferred.
Anyone experiencing this??

lag after face unlock?

I have had the phone for about a week, and it is very fast, but I set up face unlock yesterday and it freezes up when it gets unlocked that way. If I unlock it quickly after screen off it seems fine, but if it has been resting for more than a few minutes, I get a black screen (with the software buttons back menu home but they are unresponsive) for 5-10 seconds. Anyone else getting this or know of a fix?
I have not had this issue. Face unlock is quick whenever I use it. I do have raise to wake on and stay on lock screen after unlocking set to off.
I also use nova launcher.
Happy to test mine with different settings if you let me know how yours is set up.
Ian
same settings and nova launcher, except not stay on lock screen after unlock
Have changed that setting to match yours and still fine. Might be worth giving it a try with default launcher just to see if it has anything to do with nova launcher.
Otherwise I am not sure what else to suggest.

Understanding the proper use of Face Unlocking

With the Face unlock you need to have some kind of primary unlock. After I have the Face Unlock, why is it asking for my pattern unlock? Sometimes I see the silly face and sometimes I see the lock
What are your thoughts?
Thanks

When is it asking for pattern unlock? If you are using for secure payments like Google Pay, it asks for pattern or fingerprint unlock as face unlock on 7T is not secure....Face unlock on 7T can only be used to unlock the device and nothing else...
Here's an example I just did. The phone is on my desk and dark. I picked up the phone, double tapped to wake the phone to the lock screen. I see the lock on the screen instead of the face icon

Using your example, when I double tap the screen it awakens the ambient display, showing me the time and any notifications that are on the screen. Also, the fingerprint scanner is active and lit up. I believe this is the intended behavior. The double tap simply wakes the ambient display.
If you want face unlock to kick in, you should press the power button.
One Plus told to switch to a pin instead of a pattern and it seems to work better. But you suggestion of using the power button is also on par, Thanks!
This problem also frustrates me. The issue is that the time out for face unlock to search for a face is WAY TOO SHORT.
