Sprint locked their bootloaders - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried to install twrp but it says blocked by BL
Anybody else have this problem? Stock 6.0.1

What version are you on?

Stock 6.0.1 marshmallow i tried it like 10 times yesterday. Its very annoying... keeps saying blocked by BL
Update... My bad guys, my old eyes don't see that good anymore. It was reactivation lock sorry everybody.

I think he was asking what bootloader version you are on not the OS.

How are you installing twrp? Are you using odin?

Look at the screen closer. It probably says locked by RL; which is Reactivation Lock. Unlock that in Settings/Security.
The Sprint Note 4 doesn't have a bootloader locked to root but the factory reset protection may be enabled. You'll find that in the last step of the setup wizard and also in security.

As @RonMac said, was asking about Bootloader version. As of PE2 (which I believe is the latest bootloader) it is not locked. It could be RL as @samep reactivation lock does hinder twrp from working.

[Q] The latest/current verion on ATT model

Hi guys,
What's the current firmware version on ATT model? Mine is on 1.15.502.7, however on HTC website, there's a version 1.15.502.8. Should I upgrade to this version or they are the same?
Thanks!
.8 is the latest, the release notes basically come down to VoLTE improvements.

I ended up updating it via RUU, but had to lock the bootloader prior to it; is that normal?

Yeah, if you are updating via RUU you have to go back to stock recovery and lock the bootloader. All super easy to come back from after flashing though!

A little help over here! If I want to update via RUU, do I need to be s-off?
I'm on at&t model, full stock, .7 software, already downloaded .8

Try this first if your phone boots up properly:
Go into settings>developers options and
make sure the "OEM Unlock" is enabled and
then you will be able to flash roms.
If you cannot fully boot the phone then you will
need to odin flash the stock official firmware.
Good luck,
Have a great day!

Yes, odin stock firmware first
Then make sure that oem unlock is always enabled before flashing anything.
Good luck!

Yes make sure (OEM Unlock is Enabled). I ran across same problem, just flash stock firmware.:good:
Can someone find me the stock firmware for my tmobile G928W8. I have tried everything but it keeps failing on OdIn
You need Octopus Box (hardware). When you start phone, activate oem unlock
Not true for all s6e+. My frp survived 2 Odin flashes. I had to use OTG USB storage trick. There is an app called bypass frp lock.apk I found on Google. You have to put app on OTG storage. Then when you get to Gmail login plug in OTG. Then it will automatically take you to files on it. Install app and hard reset phone. When you get to Gmail login it will let you login

Root

Hi all,
I will receive my new 10 tomorrow. Is there a guide so I can root it right away? Not sure but I assume it will be a wwe version (401?)
I should unlock it via htcdev and what's next?
Thanks!

As usual .. after unlock, install TWRP and install SuperSU.zip
You need to read and understand this first : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/development/psa-htc-policy-unlocking-bootloader-t3365986
and here is the TWRP : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-t3358139
Thanks for the answer. Both links give me an error in the xda app. Know where to find them but just FYI.
So I need to replace the recovery without doubt. Hmm, not sure if I want that reading the things about ota and stock recovery. I'm actually waiting for mike1986 to create a custom rom for the 10 but up until now no news about that.

Prety interested in this one too... Looked around and on some sites it said that you can do it using various apps... I would also like to keep it as stock as possible but rooted, at least at the beginning
Is there any one touch root solution
What versions of SuperSU are people trying and having success with?
Latest versions had issues on my M9 so had an older version working great!

Nope, and it as much as says so a few posts above yours.
I unlocked my device via htcdev, flashed trwp latest version and sideloaded the last beta version of supersu (2.71). These steps did the trick although some apps that require root (fstrim for example) claim I need to root the device. Rootchecker on the other hand claim my device is rooted. Main reason for me to unlock was adaway to get an almost ad free device.

Was your device encrypted? Thought all devices are and you loose all userdata when you install TWRP. or even when you Unlock via htcDev?

It will wipe when you unlock but unlike previous years, because it is encrypted it will forget its access when you s-off as well.
The update is now available in my region but since I unlocked and rooted, how do I apply this? I assume nothing will get lost? Is there anybody with the ota file so I can at least restore stock recovery?

How could I backup stock recovery? Backing up the rest is done with twrp but stock recovery wasn't possible of course. What I understood was the stock recovery could be pulled from RUU and since I'm on the wwe 401 version I was not afraid I couldn't find that. Only did not expect an ota that quick

Typical verizon removed the "Enable OEM unlock" option from the developer settings. Hopefully someone will figure out temproot quickly.

in my opinion I would not even bother with the OTA now that your unlocked and rooted. you will start seeing custom stuff soon enough. I'm still waiting for any info on mine even being shipped out.
What is the correct root procedure to keep signal?
I've tried:
1 unlock bootloader via htcdev.
2 flash TWRP.
3 flash SuperSU
4 run SunShine
5 re-enable data encryption via settings > storage
It then reboots and I see HTC logo (thought it was encrypting without giving any indication, so I left it overnight) and it was stuck in this state. In the morning I force rebooted and was still unencrypted and without signal, so I attempted step 5 with same result...

Not sure why you lose root after format data, is that normal?

Does this work for Verizon devices? Also, if the phone is encrypted should we decrypt prior?

So...just to clarify...Verizon users cannot: unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery/SU, or anything without using the mail-in method at the current time...is this correct?

yes that is correct. you could just buy the unlocked developer edition and then unlock root and s-off then flash the Verizon RUU and have a Verizon edition that is unlocked and awesome. or mail your phone to Jcase and he will unlock the bootloader and s-off for you. either way

yeah the problem is that Jcase is having trouble coming up with a good way to package the exploit he is using on the HTC 10 verizon so that it can be done in the SunShine app. Thats the hold up at this point.

If you want to use it on Verizon you likely will be stuck on custom roms and Verizon firmware anyways ....without firmware from vzw it won't work and without a rom that has vzw advanced call features built in you will be missing out on stuff.

Thanks for this Tom,
But could explain why you need S-off? What are the benefits of having s-off or s-on?
If anyone can help or point me in the right direction would be appreciated because I think my phone is broke. I have an unlocked HTC 10 (non-carrier), unlocked bootloader, s-off(via sunshine), twrp 3.0.1-0-pme. The phone was rooted but ater a factory reset (s-on during that time) to try to get xposed to work data no longer works. I've done the following at least 3 time each with no change in results: format data, factory reset, flash SuperSU-v2.72-forceencrypt, flash SuperSU-v2.72, restore back up from twrp, re-flashed twrp. Can anyone tell me if I'm missing a step or is my phone useless. Thank you in advance!

yeah this does happen at times you need to restore a stock system image and boot image in twrp then wipe encryption to get your DATA working again.

ANy way to go from 7.1.2 to 7.1.1 without wiping?

I am assuming a Google phone.
You can drop out of the beta and you should get an OTA to take you back. However last I heard from others they are still waiting on their OTA. So that might require waiting a bit.
Anything else will wipe the phone. Unlocking it will trigger a wipe. If you are already unlocked you could do it....But you are not.
Everything you mentioned will wipe the device. The is no way to go back manually. The only way not to force wipe the phone is to wait for the release version of. 2 in a few months.

Is 7.1.2 as awful as 7.1.1 was?
You'll need to wait for the mysterious OTA after you unenroll. That's your only option being that your bootloader is locked.
