WiFi speeds? - Verizon Note 7 Questions & Answers

Does the Note 7 have slower AC speed than the Note 5? (Like the S7E)
My Note 5 tops out at 866Mbps whereas the S7E <400.
In real world (speedtest.net) results, Note 5: hits close to 600 both ways, S7E barely squeaks over 330!

I am sure over its life the Note 7 will be getting antenna improvements. Apparently it has MIMO 4X4 antennas and on paper has the ability to perform better than older handsets. That being said my internet is 60mbit/sec so the speed between phone and router is kinda pointless.

My current Note 4 also connects to my router at 866Mbps, so I doubt the Note 7 would connect slower.

That's what one would think but the S7E connects slower and I'm hoping this isn't the case with the 7.
Why is it a big deal? Air droid!

Okay, I tried that, it doesn't make a difference. It seems to be something with this phone and how it talks to the C3150, I'll ask TP-Link and post in the support forums. Thanks anyway!

The Wifi range isn't as good as my Note 5 either.
Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

Update - I fixed it! I did a factory reset on the C3150, connected back up and I'm now showing 866, woot!
Edit - It appears the Note 7 isn't compatible with Mu-mimo yet, at least not on the C3150, enabling it on my C3150 after the reset causes the Note 7 to connect at 96, turn it off and it's back to 866. The reset was still necessary though, as toggling mu-mimo on and off before the reset did nothing to fix the 433 issue. I see the Note 7 is 4x4 mu-mimo ready, but they haven't yet enabled it.

Call quality?

Hows the call quality on the note 2 i want one but i live in West Virginia and well coverage isnt the greatest sometimes its between the note 2 and Nexus 4 any comments are appreciated.
I've never owned a Nexus 4 (damn you Google), but I did previously own a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. Honestly, I can say my Note 2 on ATT has much better clarity. This could of course also be because of the network and I also believe that the GNex didn't have the best hardware in terms of radios. My GNex was very staticky and just didn't sound good. I'm much happier with the note 2.
I hope this helps you some, if at all.
I had the nexus 4 for one day before selling it to buy this note 2 last week. (I was one of the lucky ones to get theirs from Google) The call quality was ok, but is much better on this. The note 2 overall is a much better buy.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I'm in WV as well and our ATT service has been fine. Call quality is great on the note 2. Still stock. I previously had the Inspire and was constantly changing ROMs to reduce my echo. The note 2 was a nice change. Also all the Samsung added features are very nice.
Just do it.
ATT had a deal with galaxy devices, buy two get 100$ off. Don't know if this is still available.

I like the big screen on the note is it any better than the note 1st gen?
I am quite impressed with the call quality. Coming from IP5, I think IP5 was good, but Note II is just better, at least on my side. Ear piece is larger and cleaner.

Never had the note 1 but the screen size is huge. At first you'll think it's too big. Give it 2 days or so then you'll find the most comfortable way to hold it and be able to reach most of the screen.
Photo and video recording quality is amazing. Watching videos on it is nice too. Just get it.

I find call quality to be clear, loud, and crisp. My old iPhone 4, I always had to place the phone on speaker because I wasn't able to hear the other person. Not an issue with this phone.
Call quality and signal strength is fine for me. In the Northern panhandle (Wheeling). Had it since launch day.

Max Link Speed 54mbps?

I cannot get a higher link speed than 54mbps with my nexus 7. I have a wireless N capable router and a computer that is able to connect at 70 to 100mbps but I can't get a higher speed on my nexus. Is there a setting for this? I have tried getting right next to the router and still no luck. This is both with 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz and checking link speed through the WiFi menu.
Any help is appreciated!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yeah 54Mbps is the max I think but 54Mbps is eight times as much for megabits (mbps) which is how ISPs measure their speed.
Which router? This made me look at mine right now it says 150Mbps. It does bounce between 135 and 150. Netgear router.

I think that person is confused with MBps and Mbps/mbps. Especially with the whole 8 bits to a byte.
On a sidenote, it's Mbps (bandwidth) x 1024 รท 8 = download speed

When you say both 2.4 and 5Ghz, do you mean connecting to each ssid of the router or manually setting the frequency in the nexus wireless settings by turning off auto?
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Most likely is router settings. Go in your router and force N. See what happens.
Seems like my new router just needed time to settle, I get 74mpbs on 2.4ghz and 150 on 5ghz . It is a WD My Net 750, which I've heard pretty bad things about but got it on sale so I am happy so far. Thanks for the help guys!

Is WiFi really this bad?

Hey all. I'm temporarily using a galaxy nexus (man, I missed this device) but I've noticed some real flaky WiFi behavior. It constantly disconnects and reconnects. Not to mention the range ain't that great. Don't get me wrong--i know what a special device this is, I'm just wondering if b/c maybe its a few years old this is simply as good as it gets with the WiFi radio it has. I've been using the galaxy s4 for a bit but I just sold it and am waiting for the note 3. This nexus is my "back up" device.
Thanks.

WiFi isn't related to the radio. Its controlled by the kernel. And for the record my WiFi works fine.
PS- I am also looking forward to buying the note 3

I'm running paranoid android on 4.2.2. Can u recommend a good kernel for better WiFi performance? After a bit more testing yesterday I realize that the range is really the issue. If I'm close enough to my router I have no problems. But with my other phones I don't have this issue anywhere in my house. On this nexus tho, if I'm in my spare bedroom the WiFi goes in and out constantly.
Thanks again.

give it a try, check if your router uses the 5ghz band.
my router is capable of 2.4 and 5ghz using the same ssid for both.
always had the problem that my phone connected to the 5ghz and lost connection to wifi through 2 walls.
after setting it to 2.4ghz only it got better.

big fan of stock image with stock kernel, especially since the 4.3 update.
i did not expierience a increase of wifi range with custom kernels, maybe a little bit more throughput.
but if you want to try a custom kernel its up to franco-kernel.

looking for tablet to use as dailey driver phone

I just can't see a thread dedicated to using a Samsung Galaxy tablet as a everyday phone?
I have seen on other sites people using their Tab 3 10.1 or Note 8 as primary cell phones but I really need to ask you experts.
Can you tell me what tablets will accept an ATT card and work as a phone?
Thanks a bunch...
Tom
no tablet on the tab 3 line has phone/text radio. however if you have enough data you could use mo+ or talkatone for phone service

Thanks, I just purchased a Tab 4 10.1 and rooted it.
I did read in an article that was putting down using tablets as phones that one of the guys was using a Samsung Tablet as a phone but is said that he put his sim card in it and I have not seen a Samsung Tablet that lets you open the back (not counting my Note 3)...
Thanks for the info and now I need to work on ERick to make an Alliance ROM for this..., LOL
Tom
No the international version of these tabs all work as phones. At least the 7" & the 8".
I have been using the T211 on T-Mo as an everyday phone. It should work with AT&T as well.

I have the same issue, disconnects all the time. My phone is galaxy edge 6 plus. Same family. I have AutoWear and Autovoice installed. Do you? Actually, I've just disabled them and it seems stable for the past hour. I will keep update.
I have warranty, but I still don't know if it's software or hardware. I installed them the minute I got the phone.

Sent from my SM-G928C using Tapatalk
I've noticed the same issue lately. I have my Huawei Watch paired to my galaxy note 5 and I don't have auto wear installed.
I sent my phone to Samsung. It doesn't happen with my wife's S5. It sounds like a known issue. I'll update after Samsung response.

Same Issue Here
I have been having the same issue with my Note 5 and Huawei Watch. I have read that there have been some issues with connectivity with the 1.4 update for android wear, so maybe that is the culprit. The only other thing I can think of is that touchwiz kills some services after the phone has been idle for some time. I notice it happens when I have not used my phone for awhile.
I've tried version 1.3 as well. Didn't work. The blutooth signal strength is low when it paired with an android wear watch. It will drop the signal even with Bluetooth headset.
Sent from my SM-G530F using Tapatalk
I started having the same issue after upgrading to 1.4. Watch connects fine then drops connection.
I am on Note 5, stock not rooted, android 5.1.1. I noticed when I open the Wear App, the watch re-connects.
sometimes disconnects and reconnect, maybe till 2 times per day. Phone s6.
I've also had this issue since the update. Nexus 6.

Same issue here with the same device. And it happens more after the last Android Wear update 1.4
The problem is I can't find the factory reset after the 6.0.1 update
I'm having very frequent bluetooth disconnects. It happens on my Gear Live also after the update to 1.4 so I don't think its a Huawei issue. For now I've disabled "Vibrate on connectivity changes" in Developer Options.
I don't have any disconnects with my Samsung Note 4 (5.1.1) as long as I'm in Bluetooth range.
