Heavy use endurance - Note 7 Real Life Review

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the Samsung Galaxy Note 7's battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.

Had a 22 hours usage with phone calls, WhatsApp, wechat, sms, games, audio streaming and uber orders. whole day the gps was turn on. SM-N930FD

Not sure why anyone would rate this poorly. The endurance of heavy use on this phone is phenomenal. With WiFi, Always On Display, High Accuracy GPS, 85-100% brightness, and constant heavy use, you could use this phone for easily 8-9 hours.

Not a fan of how fast this thing dies under use. Just using for maps, emails,, texts and surfing the web with low brightness, it died 20 percent in an hour.

6-7hours on Pokemon Go with brightness 70+ most of the time is good enough for me.

I m getting impressive battery timing with heavy usage, such as synching emails, facebook, whatsapp, messenger, wechat and about 40mins of fifa15 games. Listening music and watch videos with mx player also. But i turned off the always on display. And i only select cpu power saving mode in bettery setting. I m using N930FD

how did you get this good SOT on 4G

Endurance test from my side is continuous use with Gear VR. Battery delivers but the heat is too much. I used to watch videos over VR for that cinema and 360 degrees experience.

There are apps in the play store to hide root which have worked for me in the past so I am not too worried about it.

I was able to watch 1pm, 4pm and evening NFL games where i am live tweeting and checking my Fantasy Football team.
Also I am a political junkie so on 9/11 Granny Cankles got loaded in a van like a sack of potatoes. So I was Checking news reports.
I by the time my phone hit 50%, I dropped the resolution to the mid point, dropped the screen brightness to 80%.
By 10:30pm when I was at hone in bed and put it on my wireless dock it was down to 18%
So I was impressed.

Nexus 7 2013 game battery Life question

Hey guys.. I have a question that bothers me.. when i do heavy gaming on my nexus 7 (2013) my battery drops about 8% every 15mins or so..this is with gps turned off.nfc off.location off.and google services .currents and so forth off.. and brightness on auto..but when i do leave my tablet in deepsleep overnight i only lose about 1% in about 10 hours of deep sleep but when i game my battery drops as fast as 8% in 15mins or so is this normal???
That's more drain than I've ever experienced. Have you tried a CPU monitor, and care to tell us the name of the game(s)?
Sometimes a game can unnecessarily run all CPU cores at full throttle. PBA Bowling is a big drain, though at the pace it uses up the battery, I can still get 6 hours of life.
frontline commando dday.deadtrigger2.dragon slayer. gta .games like that and im not running anything on background cause ive also did a backup to stock so everything got deleted and fresh and still around this rate but i heard its normal cause at this rate my battery would be dead at 3hours or so and i heard thats normal for heavy gaming on a tablet?

GTA: San Andreas For Hours ( I Beat It ).
yeah but thats with airplane mode on but i mean i play with airplane mode off and then it only last 3 hours i heard this was normal for a tablet for graphic intense games
i still find it hard to believe u get 10 hours of gameplay google annouched 10 hours of life by doing surfing and moderate use but in heavy use u will not get up to 10 hours

That's seems pretty low. While you can't expect 8-10 hours of actual usage with graphic intense games, I get about 5½ hours screen time over 2 days when I spend the majority time gaming. Even if I did nothing but game on my tablet I expect I'd still get close to 5 hours usage over the course of a day.

Yeah but the battery get's really hot when charging while using . Don't want a bomb going of on my eear
Played NFS No Limits for 6 and a half hours straight, wasn't very hot. Great battery life imho, sleeps like a baby, i lose 1-2% over night. Mine is h860, 6.0.1 v10a. Should i upgrade it to Android 7 because I've read that many people have a huge battery drain on Nougat?

ive noticed this too
but at least it throttles properly. it might get hot and charge slower, and work slower, but it wont cook itself to a bootloop like the g4 would.

Heat

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the ZTE Axon 7 stays cool under extended heavy use. Agree it has been the coolest phone I have owned. The other phones I have owned have both got very hot which has made the phones very slow (CPU throttling?). The Axon 7 has stayed quite cool to the touch even when using things like GPS and camera.
Nexus 6p (toaster)
Oneplus One (hot)
HTC M7 (hot)
iPhone 5s (mild)
Axon 7 (cool)
Warm/Hot
Got my Axon 7 today been using it for a few hours was warm throughout my usage, gave it a charge and was really warm/hot. Battery life wasn't all that great either, people are getting 5-6 SOT with a full charge, it came with 85% out of the box and used it for around 2~2.5 hours and it was down to 20% with brightness below 50% wasn't impressed. I'm hoping it'll get better with more use as this phone is pretty great
If you play all day of course you wont get 6 hrs of SoT.

Yup and Yup....
Comparing the Axon 7 to previous devices, A7 win by a long shot.
I play PSP Games (this is hard on CPU+GPU) and doesn't transform into a toaster.
I've gotten 6.5 hours of screen on time, but this is with conservative use: web browsing/video watching with extremely low brightness settings.
When playing Star Wars KOTOR, I've only gotten ~3.5 hours of play time. Brightness heavily affects the drain speed.
it gets barely warm enough to notice it working at all.
Got hot in pocket while doing nothing, GSam showed 38-40 celsius. Started today, exactly after 1 week when I got it. While using it it gets warm a little, but nothing serious compared to my old phones.
Axon 7 Battery Temperature
Hi guys my Axon 7 is running the latest update (7.1.1) and my battery's temperature is 29°c when idling and the room's temperature is also 29°c, but when I start using social media apps like Instagram and Snapchat ,it gets around 37° and if I use Chrome for web surfing it gets around 40°c, so is this normal for Axon 7? And also if I use so heavy multitasking like downloading over mobile data, watch online videos , two sims both activated , and ten other apps open at the same time but no games , the temperature sometimes goes up to 45°c. What is your Axon 7's battery temperature in different situations?please also mention the room temperature that you're in. ( to see the temperature go to settings/ power manager/ battery cooling)
With Gsam Battery, it says 43 celcius when charging or reddit/games...
It was under 35c a few weeks ago
It is normal for many phones.
And the temp alert settings of the axon7 are very useful as I sit in sunlight very often and most times forget about phone temperature
My Axon 7 heats up fast when I used aze
The battery monitor reports overheat warning after 20 minutes of using the GPS app called Waze. The temp would reach 46°C easily. I don't get this issue when I use the Google Map.
I have seen temperatures in excess of 50C when in direct sunlight in my hot car while using GPS (no A/C in my car).
Playing Hearthstone in my warm room can exceed 40C, which is where I have the warning set to.
I hope I'm not slowly killing the device or battery...
My A2017G gets a little hot (but definitely usable) when charging. Unplug it and it'll cool down pretty quickly.
But then that might be because I keep the phone on all the time (got an always-on screen app running just for screen-off OK Google)
This phone doesn't get hot. You guys don't know what's hot until you have used a Xperia M4 Aqua
My Xperia M4 Aqua could reach temps of steady 82C while gaming and 74C while watching Youtube
I've been getting issues using mine as a GPS with here maps. Battery heat warnings and yes, it felt hot, not to mention the app is causing navigation problems a lot.
Installed TomTom, see if it works better. It has some better UI and settings already.
If it doesn't run cooler I might buy a dedicated GPS but really don't want another device in the car.....

That's really weird, my phone never gets hot while using GPS and driving. Are you sure you're not putting the phone in direct sunlight?
Yeah, of course it had sun on it. You need it able to access GPS signal reliably for good navigation.
It was in a screen mount. I was using it heaps today on TomTom app with much more success and less heat. Seems there's something not right with Here Maps.

uninstalled all useless system and user apps. added play services in doze mode. reduced background activity and background data on all user and system apps.
using 1890x3360 resolution (to fix touch issues).
Im on oreo (.51) with storms DRM Fix/kernel, I used serajrs debloat script to get rid of all the useless apps, 8.45 hours with 13% left, this phone is a beast! Mobile data all day, stamina on performance, some YouTube, lots of browsing, telegram msg's, couldnt ask for better.

Hi,
My device isn't rooted and this is what I do to get the most out of the battery...
1. I try to never allow the battery to get hot in order to prolong its excellent performance. If you're charging your phone, don't run heavy draining apps as this will greatly increase the battery's temperature. When charging my phone, I usually set stamina mode to always on and if I'm not expecting important phone calls I sometimes activate airplane mode. If you want to make and receive calls just turn off Bluetooth, wife, data and GPS while the phone is plugged in to keep the battery temperature down.
2. I used to love the Juice Defender app which was able to automatically turn off Wife/Data whenever the screen is off but sadly it hasn't been updated in so many years. Now I just manually turn off WiFi and Data whenever the phone is not in use.
3. If you're watching an offline film or reading a book, turn off your WiFi and Data. Again, if you're not looking to make calls activate Airplane Mode as this tends to lessen the battery drain especially when watching 4k movies.
4. Delete any apps that you don't use. Especially the power hungry apps!
5. I only tend to set brightness to the lowest setting when I'm in a very dark room. There's no point in always having it so low in broad daylight like a disorientated cave-dweller.
6. When you go to bed, activate stamina mode (if you want to save more juice then also activate Airplane Mode) and just make sure that it won't affect your alarm in the morning. ?
That's pretty much it for me I guess. Rooting voids the warranty and that's not something I want to do so I'm happy with my current usage and performance.
Hope this helps!

Yes that's one of the reasons why I'm not too keen on rooting. Rooting the device will also cause some issues that currently have no fix available so I'm good for now.
I can capture excellent stills and beautiful 4k footage. I get around 9-10 hours of screen on time with moderate to heavy use. Everything works as it should so I'm very happy with that.
3.5 hrs loosing 40%
I think for normal daily usage xzp got between 7-8 hrs
The seco d day reached [email protected]% of battery
Well, by my own experience, going out to work at 7:00, getting home at about 18:30 (plus commuting, as I was doing it in the bus too), I was reading an EPUB the whole day (Moon Reader+), black background with white text, the app prevents the screen from turning off, and I hardly had any reason besides lunch break to turn it off, I noticed I had forgotten the cable at the end of lunch break and took out brightness to about 35%, enough to be readable for me, it was on auto until them, no stamina mode either.
I got home with about 40% of battery left. I was quite surprised with my results.
Can get more than 20 hrs of SOT now
Look @The screenshoti taked after long day
5.5 hrs of SOT and 47% battery remaning
I get an average of 6 1/2 hours SOT with heavy gaming and brightness set to around 30%
Otherwise 2-3 days standby with medium to little use. I am impressed.
Ps. When gaming, is the screen running in 1080P or 4k?? How can we tell?

Thanks for clearing that. This means that we only get 4k when viewing 4k movies? However, by default we are getting 1080p which includes gaming.
It would be nice if we could run games in 4k. Why have a 4k screen which is only running 1080P?
Same as buying a 4k TV/Monitor and gaming at 1080P. :crying:
At least we should have an option to change resolution like a PC when gaming, would make sense.Even gaming at 1440P would look amazing. Some games have visible jagged edges which would be eliminated if running at resolutions higher than 1080P...

Amazing battery life on the s8+
Battery life has been a bit inconsistent. Usually I get around 4 or 5 hours screen on time, though honestly my habit with all my phone Shas been to charge them whenever possible. If I'm driving, I set it on the mount and plug it in. If I'm at home or work and not using it, I plug it in (or in this case set it on the wireless charger). But I was fairly unimpressed with the S8+ battery life.
Yesterday and today, I turned on the medium battery power setting. It seems to have increased my screen on time dramatically, but I'm also at home and on wifi.
Medium decreases screen brightness by 10%, sets resolution to FHD+, underclocks by 30%, and turns off the AOD. Of these, the only thing I miss is the AOD, but it also seems to make the most difference in battery life.
Either way, my battery life today is much better. So far I've had almost five and a half hours of screen on time and 54% battery remaining. That's all surfing the internet, posting here, texting my wife, taking a few photos, and a little Facebook. I'd say that is fairly impressive.
I'll see how the battery holds out Monday when I'm away from wifi, driving through varying cell tower coverage areas. I'll also check how it is if I turn the AOD back on. I do like the AOD.
Really good for a stock rom
Bat Rom & Noto.
Could of got to 10hrs but was playing with themes which require reboots.

Do you notice any decreases in performances with the underclocking? Or are things still fairly snappy?

I don't notice any performance issues at all with it underclocked. But I don't do any gaming either, so that may be an issue for others.

I'm averaging 5.5, sometimes near 6 lately. Not bad for stock.
