Camera focus issues with 2016-devices on custom roms - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there
Looks like i am not the only one, that having issues with the camera focus or autofocus on a newer G4 (H815) with custom roms.
It is definitely not a hardware issue, comes with ALL custom roms so far. it does not relates to stock roms (works fine there - tested many times)
marshell has written down a few posts to this issue. check his profile.
Any dev here, who can help?
Or is there any solution on its way?
Cheers, samukinson

Yeah, i know., but Imperium rom is based on stock. Genisys too.
This bug only applies aosp, cm13, ..., and apparently on newer G4's (2016)

Hi There, did you personally tested the stock roms without focus issues? Please list a few names I want to test because I am having focus issues with back camera. (I still have lollypop)
Thanks in advance

LG Stock ROM: AF works

Hello Guys, I had serious problems to get the back camera to focus when used on landscape mode. I moved back to stock ROM and didn't fix it, this was bad since day one I get the phone. How did I solve the problem? Replace camera module, now works great...!

Hi there? I've been having this problem too, stock or custom ROMS, where did you get the camera module from? Can you please share the details (prices, model number, seller, etc) if you can?
Thanks

Hello! Actually I did fit it in my local eBay (I live in South America) there are tons of LG G4 who have failed because of the motherboard so finding a replace should be easy but....This phone will continue to give you trouble, try to change it. I was able to receive a refund from Amazon for the whole phone. Good luck!

Camera doesnt focus

Hi
I buy second new g4,
i have installed marshmallow on it, so with lgup i downgrade it to lollipop.
But now focusing is not working. On marshmallow everything is working :/
What i must to do?
Anyone fix that issue ?
Sadly, I'm beginning to think there is no fix for this . I've asked everywhere on xda, reddit, quora. Seems like others are having this problem was well but no one knows what causes it or how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I really miss having a rooted phone.
Install genisys rom (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/development/05-feb-2016-genisys-rom-2-2-lollipop-eu-t3309035) for LP and auto focus should back to normal.

Mi5s autofocus problem

Hi all
Got new mi5s 4gb vrsion, autofocus do not work when camera start for 10sec-1min , after that all ok
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAZhf2_zmSg
Same thing on oem and eu rom ,as well as few camera apps.
Any help appreciated
Please try autofocus not on a TV, they tend to be hard to focus on. Try it outside in daylight please.
Same thing m8
First time autofocus does not wok for 1 minute, than after than when you start it, does not work for 10-15 seconds.. Works normal for close up objects right on, but for far, no.
Same thing here... Could that be a driver issue?
This issue is known in at least one custom rom. Please make sure that you run an official rom. I believe the xiaomi.eu (not official rom) is also ok.

I'm running latest dev ROM from xiaomi.eu.
I also have the same issue on lastest official China global and China dev
That's not good then Not sure if it's a hardware issue in your case. Haven't read of this issue in the English xiaomi.com forum, so there can't be many with this issue.
I have same problem (4/32GB version). My mi5s arrived today and I couldn`t believe. Now I have two questions in my head "Is that software or hardware" and "Is it possible to be fixed"
I found a workaround (IDK if this works only for me)... Just open stock camera then open and close camera settings (gear icon). The autofocus should work now!
Let me know if this works for anyone else

I have the same issue when I try to take a photo or record a video . We are a lot of people with the same error. You can check the MI5S official forum at MIUI Forum and you'll see more threads talking about the same but there's no anwser from Xiaomi yet.

I'm also looking for a fix... Maybe only a patch for stock camera app until the problem is solved by xiaomi. I'll keep you updated
When I look to /etc/camera directory I can see 3 configs files for imx378 and two specifics for two manufacturers : liteon & semco (samsung). My sensor seem to be a liteon. Could the bug be link to a specific manifacturer ? Maybe a drivers to optimize for a specific manufacturer ?
Some people say that the last EU ROM, 6.12.22, improves the autofocus. Can anyone confirm it?

For me it's the same as on 6.12.8, BUT I tried the unofficial cyanogenmod for MI5S which seems it hasn't any issues in camera autofocus
I have the same problem.
But shaking, or knocking don`t help.
Even if i wait 15-30-60 sec, autofocus don`t work.
But first 2 weeks it works perfectly.

I tried another app and the front camera works, but not the back one. Though with the default app I couldn't even test the front one, it closed immediately.
I know for a fact the camera worked fine before flashing the custom ROM, so it's not a hw failure.
When as the last time you checked the camera with a stock ROM? I searched around and there don't seem to be many people with this issue on the note 2. Your phone's model # is gt-n7100?

Yup, GT-N7100.
Last time I checked the camera was just a few days ago. And yeah I've searched for the issue a bit as well, didn't have an luck unfortunately...
Have you tried this ROM? --> https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...-aicp-12-1-official-nightlies-t3569395/page85
I being using it as a daily driver for months, and it's the best one I ever had for this phone.
Few times I've had camera problems, but automagically resolved just after restarting the phone.
Give it a try, and let us know it this was an acceptable solution.
Best of luck.

I don't think that there's a way to have stock ambient display with StockROM by Motorola. However, most of the CustomROMs have this ability.
Btw, a little bit off-topic.. but aren't you from Slovakia too?

Each CustomROM that I tried had some bugs. Unfortunately, all of them had slightly disorted sound during a call in comparison with StockROM. However, these ones (mentioned below) are the best in my opinion:
7.0 - debloated stock https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/development/rom-debloated-optimized-t3722396
7.1.2 - LineageOS 14.1 https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/development/7-1-x-lineageos-14-1-moto-g5-t3611973
I would recommend you to use this build of LOS 14.1, if you are interested https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GO7i7h1QQcD8oY3uUBr4a2u1gJzlRkzk/view. I faced a huge problem - apps like Snapchat, Instagram or Messenger started to freeze and force close randomly, but only with august 2018 build (the latest one). Reboot didn't help at all, reinstall of LOS or crashing apps fixed problem just temporarily. Flashing build from june 2018 (link mentioned in this paragraph) seems to be a permanent fix.
If you are running stock Oreo, you have to downgrade to Nougat first. Otherwise, your fingerprint scanner will not work with any Nougat based CustomROM (idk about Oreo ones ). How to downgrade a Moto device without getting hardbrick? It's simple - make sure, yours device's bootlaoder is properly unlocked. Then, flash everything except gpt and bootloader to avoid hardbrick while downgrading. Running "fastboot erase modemst1" and "fastboot erase modemst2" commands wipes IMEI, so exclude them also.
8.1.0 - AOSPExtended 5.4 https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/development/rom-aospextended-5-0-t3710925 with Alize v10 kernel https://drive.google.com/file/d/1W9s2Wd52buDLglqOX2cEsgHTD0qWFHbv/view.
I have already tried this combination and there was no problem while taking photos and recording videos using Footej Camera.
If you decide to try this ROM with gapps installed alongside, follow this tutorial before the first boot https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/how-to/how-to-repair-bootloop-oreo-roms-t3791189. Otherwise, your phone will be stuck in bootloop.
Thank you for your comprehensive guide to custom roms
It's shame there isnt any custom rom with everything working fine. I think I will go back to Lineage 14.1 and then buy a new phone. Motos arent the same since Lenovo took them.

Lineage 14.1 camera can't connect 8.4 WiFi

I rooted and flashed my tab pro 8.4 Sm-t20 with linageos 14.1 unofficial. So far everything is running fine but I can't get the back camera to work. I tried a few camera APps and a reset app I found on YouTube but can't get it to work. Has any one else been able to get it to work?
Thanks in advance

If you really have a need for the camera to work AFAIK your best solution is to downgrade to a previous ROM version.

I'd really like it to work it bothers me a little bit that I just can't get it to work. I really don't need it to work. I have my phone and another tablet that the camera does work on, have not rooted or put a custom rom on those. I do use Google duo and another app for video chat but it is what it is.
The thing is it's a shame Samsung isn't updating this model any more. It's actually got a slightly better screen and CPU than the 8" tab A I have yet it's stuck on kitty Kat with OEM software. I like having more updated software and the stock Android is more like what's on my Moto X4, so I'm not likely to flash it back to kitty Kat.
