S Pen Color Selector on Note 7 - Note 7 Questions & Answers

I am ready to love the Note 7. I got the black model and I love how it looks with no chrome, very cool. I was worried about the dual edges at first because I hated how the S7 Edge felt in my hands and the functionality (or mis-functionality) of the edge. However, I love the way the Note7 edges look and function. I also love how it fits my hands and is much easier to use one handed than the Note 5. However, I found a flaw today that I hope is just an oversight on my part and not really the case. After searching on line for a while I have not found an answer to my issue, so here I am.
One thing I use the S Pen for quite a bit is touching up or editing photo's. I am not looking to do Photoshop level work here, but maybe a small touch up here or there. Going all the way back to the Note 2 I have just used the stock editor launching it from within the gallery app. I could then select drawing and do whatever I wanted with the S Pen to the photo. One featured I use all the time while doing this is the ability to pick the color of the pen from a color on the photo using the common "dropper" tool. Lets say for example I had a great picture of myself but noticed a big mustard stain on my shirt. I could use the dropper to select the color of my shirt and more or less make the stain go away. I cannot find this function anywhere with the Note 7! I have looked under every "pen" type and seemingly every sub-menu, but I cannot find the dropper anywhere. Someone please tell me this is not the case and I am simply overlooking it. If it is in fact the case and there is another app that I should be using to edit photos with S Pen functionality, please enlighten me. I cannot figure out why they would have decided to get rid of this simple but useful tool.
Sidenote: I was pretty excited to get a shipment E-mail from Samsung today saying my free 256GB SD card has been shipped. I submitted my claim on 8/18 when I got the phone. That is the quickest turn around on a promotion I have seen from Samsung.
Thanks!

Had a quick look at your dilemma. Can't find the dropper either.
Regarding your sidenote, the quickest I've seen Samsung was when my note 7 came with the 256gb memory card shrink wrapped to the same box as the phone. Was thinking I'll need to fill out forms etc to get the card once the phone arrived but surprise surprise, the card was there too.

Capacitive pen for taking notes.

Hey, I'm looking to take some notes on my tab and was looking for some suggestions. I've found a couple cool programs but need a pen.
My noted are almost all math related so equations and such.
Any advice would be very helpful.
Sent from Samsung Galaxy S2 on TELUS.
When it comes to capacitive stylus, I believe price is a good signal of quality. I have tried both high end (e.g., boxwave) and low end (generic, bundled with other accessories), and the difference is very noticeable. Good luck taking math notes.... I am an economist and my note-taking involves math too. You are going to have a hard time getting good results. I tried doing this, but had to go back to my clunky convertible tablet to get the results I needed. Unless you get a slate with a digitizer (like the Flyer or the Thinkpad), you are pretty much out of luck.
Your not out of luck... just need this!!
As u guys know capacitive stylus have a very wide point so that it can be recognized by the device, therefore affecting precision. Thankfully some people already came up with a solution. U have to options.
1) DIY fine ponit stylus with materials u can find in ur house... for FREE:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHhB2BF5yQM
I found a blog where someone made a more precise intructions .... but I don't
remember the site!
2) Someone took the idea to kickstarter and now they are commercializing there
version of a fine point stylus.... only that it cost around 20-30 bucks:

http://adonit.net/product/7
I just pre ordered one of these bad boys!!!
Hmm, looks intriguing. I'm not holding my breath until this type of technology is proven and reviewed thoroughly. Thanks for sharing.
Edit; Here's the blog with the detailed instructions:

Will take a look. Still in the market for a tablet. I like tthe 10.1 but would be better if I could take notes.
I find the flyer too small for me and the one that att has is like $800 so I'd rather use paper than that lol.

check out this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0057JAA54
i just ordered one, i guess for $8 it is worth trying
The more I look at htc's pen the more I like it, I might have to just suck it up and get a 7inch tablet.

Doesn't the Lenovo Thinkpad tablet also come with a digitizer and pen?
I'll try the DIY out and let you know how it goes, looks easy enough and I have everything needed. I paid one looks great as well, but I'll wait fir the reviews to roll in. Thank you for showing this to us.
How about this one?

I'm considering it, but I don't like to waste money and really want a decent accuracy.

The Dagi came first than the one i showed u guys... but I've read some reviews and they say that it's hard to get used to because w this one u have to write w a certain angle for it to work at its best.
That sucks.
I made my own last night. I'm not good at that kinda stuff so although it worked, it was a little off.
I need one so that I can take small notes on an image of a form, but it just didn't like writing small. I'm wondering if that's the case for most of them.

You can probably do that using Sketchbook Pro. Just import the image, zoom in on where you need to write, merge the layers when done and save.
I too am looking for something to take notes on. I bought a Flyer and it was pretty inaccurate. This is one of those things where if it isn't done right it will be horrible experience. My best suggestion would be to wait for the Samsung Series 7 Slate. I know its pretty expensive but look at like this it can replace your laptop.
The 12.1 Asus eePad slate (Windows-based) gets good reviews on the note-taking area.
first of all: out there are a varaity of stylus for your tabs and phones. the regular capacitive pens you'll find for a buck or two on ebay are the same as the ones cellphone companies sell for like $20, does are just like using your finger and are only good for people with big/fat fingers since they cant type on keyboard well and other stuff like that without hitting the wrong key. but some genius chinese guy invented this wish you can make at home by yourself without any money:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHhB2BF5yQM&NR=1&feature=endscreen
but also two companies took this idea and patented it, and here are the results
Dagi:
P501 and P502 (old method with just stylus)
P601 (old method with ink pen in one end and stylus in the other)
P504, P505, P506 and P507 (new idea, very acurate, just like a pen or pencil)
(the P504 comes in 9 different colors)
P602 (new idea, very acurate, just like a pen or pencil- and also an ink pen in the other end)
Adonit:
Jot and Jot Pro (The best out there)
I have a Dagi P504 and an Adonit Jot Pro. I use the on my Tab on Sketchbook Pro and other Drawing and Note-Taking apps. They both are very good but the dagi does not have a cap so the point can bend in a backpack or something and the adonit jot pro is very sleek in desing and has a cap. Its up to each ones likes. I paid $18 for the P504 and $30 for the Jot Pro. I bought them on ebay. You can find all of the styles on ebay.
You can find all of the styles on ebay. You will find The Dagi from $15-$30 depending on styles and the Adonit from $25-$45
The idea from the guy on the vid works great too
NOTE: I have the Galaxy Tab 10.1 Galaxy 10.1 owners: You must have root on your device and use TouchScreenTune (free app that fixes your touch screen sensitivity). Otherwise the writing will lag. Link below:

Motorola Stylus pen with Precision Tip
On Motorola site, it says that a Stylus pen with precision tip is becoming available soon. By its picture, it seems that it is indeed precise. On the compatibility tab, it says it is compatible with XYBoard only. Is XYBoard touchscreen different from Xoom? In my opinion, if it is compatible with Xoom, it is compatible with the SGT 10.1, isn't it?

Looking for Swivel Hand strap case for Note 10.1(2013)

There was a case I saw a long time ago that seemed like it could be nice to have. As of today I started craving it and want to buy it.
It is case with a swivel hand strap on the back. This would allow for comfortable holding while drawing or carrying around. Allowing for working in Landscape or Portrait without any hand discomfort.
I had put the case on a wish list on Amazon, but I have since deleted it. Does anyone know of one? I am not having any luck finding on today.

I recently switched from a Note 10.1 to a Windows tablet, but also use it for drawing. Currently I am using a standard leather case with something called "hand-e-holder" attached. I got mine on Ebay, but Amazon sells it also. There is a pad(sort of like velcro) that attaches to the case or tablet. The handle then sticks to the pad, so the handle can be removed it needed. Whats also good is that it is very comfortable, and does not freely rotate when trying to draw.
I looked into a couple of other "handles" that either stick on or wrap around the device, but I think will fit your needs the best. When searching Amazon for the Hand-e-holder, if you look at the related products you'll find similar handles.
I tried cases that rotate but there's no resistance to it tends to rotate in every direction when trying to draw.
Hope that helps. Us artists, got to stick together.

Yeah, I have seen those around. Guess that is what I shall end up going with Thanks!
I was wanting to get a Windows Surface Pro 2. I think having a drawing tablet you can ACTUALLY install Photoshop on... man... would be nice. But the setup is not quite in my budget right now heh.

I went with a manufacturer refurbished Samsung Ativ 700T. It has the same specs as the Surface Pro 2, but is lighter, does not get as hot, a bit better battery life, and a 12" screen. That extra 2" makes a difference when using Photoshop with palettes. I got mine from an online retailer off off Ebay for $600. I use a wacom pen and it works the same as it would with the standard drawing tablet.
Just for preformance reference, I use Photoshop CS6 (64bit)on it. My files are around 80mb, with around 30-50 layers, and a dpi of 300. No real lag unless using a large brush. If you a fast sketcher you might get some lag, but at that sketch stage my image rez is usually at 72dpi so I don't have an issue.
If you have any specific question about my setup don't be afraid to ask. I'm always willing to help out a fellow artist. I did a lot of research on all the competing tablets. Plus I had the same decisions to make when purchasing mine.
On a side note, the best painting apps for Android are, Layerpaint HD, Sketchbook Pro, and Infinite Painter(note edition). LayerPaint HD is probably my favorite because of the tool set and the interface is the most similar to Photoshop. Sketchbook Pro and Infinite Painter have brushes that simulate actual brushes more realistically. Clover Paint is also interesting. Its the only one where you can set up the interface with custom shortcuts(to brushes and such). Its not very intuitive though.
Also if you didn't know you can use a actual wacom pen (UP-801E) with the Note. The eraser functions as an eraser and some of the apps use the side switch. Plus because it is bigger it is easier to hold for long periods. The pen is discontinued but you can still find some on Ebay and other online retailers.

I'm stuck between 4 and Edge

Well... thread says it all guys...
I was set on the edge, but now I'm not so sure. Something inside my mind is giving me doubt. Perhaps it's the lack of support currently. I currently have a Note 3 and I'm very happy with it. I wouldn't upgrade to something else if I didn't have to right now. But having ATT Next, I might as well.
Wife really liked the Edge and she's looking forward to trying something new. We just ordered her one. Should be here in a week or two... but I'm not so sure.
I looked at one in Best buy, and I can say I had no issues holding the phone or whatever people complain about. (I'm a lefty too). Perhaps big hands help. The screen is a cool idea and you can put some of your common apps on the side I suppose, but I have no problem using folders on my main screen.
Has anyone had both and tried it out?
I'm not even sure what I need in response. I've seen plenty of YT vids comparing the two, held them side by side and read the Edge forums to gain an idea. Something is telling me it's just a gimmick like Kindle Fire's 4 cameras.
Personally went with the Note 4 because I felt like the Note 4 Edge was gimmicky, and wasn't sure how well cases would really work on it... In the end, I needed a phone to last a while, so I went with a regular Note 4 with a solid case.
I was set to get the edge on it's debut date. Played around several times at the store. Liked it a lot but changed my mind. The deciding factor: bezels seemed big for my liking. Though that may have been a matter of perception.
I owned the Edge for 2 days and it's a really nice phone, but the edge screen is very gimmicky. After a day it seemed pointless to have it. Also, the battery life seemed worse than my Note 4.
I ended up returning the Edge, getting a Note 4, and pocketing an extra $100.
The Edge is good, but the extra screen just isn't worth the extra $100 in my opinion.
I too drooled over the edge, but passed in the final analysis in favor of the note 4. I am fortunate enough for cost to not be an issue when choosing a handset but I saw the edge quickly being shelved if purchased. 2 issues prevented my purchase as simply another toy, let alone daily driver.
Since the screen edge screen is on the right side the power button is moved to the top. I have years (decades) of using Samsung devices in my left hand and having the power button on my index finger. The move of the button to the top is not ergonomically sound for me.
Second was that some of the application screens would wrap around to the full extent of the edge screen, especially in the touchwiz settings. I found it quite annoying and was not willing to wait for Samsung to first fix it, then get the fix passed through ATT at some future date.
My 2 cents FWIW, but if the wife has one coming play with it and see what you think.
My 2 cents about the keeping my Note 4 is:
Gear VR!
I've got the Note 4 and the Edge right now. Just picked the Edge up today. I do like having my favorite apps on the Edge screen as opposed to taking up space on my home screen. The only time the Edge screen has been an issue so far is taking pictures. The capture button seems very sensitive and I ended up taking 14 pictures of the same thing. The battery life isn't as good as the Note 4. This is to be expected with a 3000mAh battery as opposed to a 3220mAh. If battery life is important to you I would recommend going with the Note 4 or if you plan to use the Gear VR. Also, the screen protector for the Edge doesn't stay on very well due to the curved portion of the screen.

Note 10+ AOD along the right edge?

I have ordered a cheap Chinese imitation of the Note 10+ S View case which when genuine makes the AOD display down the right edge so it is visible through the cases clear edge. I am presuming the imitation case will not do this so am asking how can I? (of course I might get a nice surprise but I doubt it!).
I'm sure I read how to do that somewhere quite awhile ago but any DuckDuckGo-ing does not turn anything useful up.
Going through settings did not prove fruitful either.
Thanks for the heads up.

Sorry, I have no idea, but I would be interested in your experience with this case, I was thinking of going down the same route, the official case being way too expensive.

I'm at the point where I think there are only 2 ways its going to happen, either the case has the appropriate bits that make it happen (which I doubt but you never know) or I have to trick the phone into thinking a real case is there.
The settings needed, in accessories it seems, to show the AOD down the right side, do not show up until the phone knows the case is there, from some quick searching it seems this is done with magnets and hall effect sensors to tell the phone the case is fitted, if the info I have stumbled upon is correct. I don't know why Samsung would not let people have the choice of the AOD down the side at any time if they would like instead of only with that case?
So if the case does not have these magnets I will play around until I get something with some small rare earth magnets and see what happens? It will be easy to glue them into the case if it works.
If none of the above works I may have to anti up for a real case....drat.
I like 'em but I'm not sure if I like 'em that much!
(it just struck me that I do not need to wait for the case to try some magnets and see what happens!).
EDIT: ok bad news I'm afraid - the AOD down the right side is NOT on the Note's screen, its on the clear part of the case which is a screen of sorts itself! The case has quite a few tricks and is probably why it costs so much. Bummer. Oh well, the cheap Chinese case will do for now while I agonize over whether to part with the dough for the real Sammy case! I may find that I don't like that type of case that I have to open all the time and I found out cheaply! That's about the only good outcome.
I'm not sure exactly which case you are referring to but the Samsung Clear view cases are just that, a clear part in the case that lets you see the screen.
So possibly some bad news, I have one of the LED cover cases, could be different but when I put the case on the phone it unlocks an app and wallpapers in the phone that let you control the case. In the LED Cover app, the case has its own serial number and strangely, the date I "registered" the case with the phone and there is a date when the software will expire in 3 years. So without access to the app, I think you're stuck.

Yes without the case to tell the phone its there and activate the setting in accessories nothing will happen. I have since found out that the info about the case having a screen is wrong, don't trust Youtube! It is the Note's screen that does everything, after watching another couple of vids I could see the AOD display on the Note's screen briefly when they opened the case.
I wonder if any app developer would like to write a small app to make this happen whenever a person would like, that would cure the problem. I asked in AOD notify thread about this. I'm sure it would not be too hard at all. I think there would be a bit of demand especially from cheap case owners!
I should know by Wednesday at the latest if the cheap case tells the phone its there, it would be nice.
So the case arrived finally.
As expected it does not do anything, its just a case i.e. it does not tell the phone it is there. The special section in accessories is therefore not accessible. No AOD down the side.
The case itself is actually quite nice, seems well made, pretty good considering it was only 5 bucks.
Having said that I don't like the case when it is open, it makes holding the phone awkward so I most likely will not now ever buy the genuine Samsung case which will be the same in this attribute. I have heard this criticism about the sammy case.
I will use it for now to get my 5 bucks worth but will most likely take it off soon enough and put the sammy silicone case back on.
A shame because I like the look of the case on the phone closed and like the screen being protected but I feel that when open the case will likely be the cause of drops so it will have to go me thinks.
So a small update; There is an app in Play Store that will put an AOD style clock down the right side of the screen, right in the right spot for these cheap cases. It is called Edge Clock for S6 but works on most devices and on the Note 10+ too.
It at least makes use of the clear part of the case, kind of like you get with the genuine sammy case but it is just a clock and costs 4 bucks.
Seems to work quite well, different colors available etc. It is not an AOD but you have to run the app which makes the rest of the screen black while it runs the edge clock. I'm using it at home so my phone is unlocked which I find convenient, I get a kind of AOD display like I would of got with the real case so I'm kinda pleased with it.
I have gotten used to the case and have left it on, the initial dislike of when the case is open has passed and there have been no case induced drops, thankfully.
Hope this helps someone.
Couldn't you just have the AOD show the clock down the right side of the screen instead?
Sent from my SM-T860 using Tapatalk
For me, there is the AOD setting for the right-side of the screen. When you are choosing your "Clock Style" in AOD settings, scroll through the list all the way to the right, where there is a 'clock' logo, click it, and there should be 5 additional settings. The last one listed there is the right-side option.

Same here.
It would be nice if someone knew which APK it is with the AOD clock down the side so it could be downloaded and installed for us "not have's"!
The app I spoke of (S6 clock) is OK but it means when using it the phone is actually on and unlocked i.e. the app does not run on the lock screen.
Another Update.
I have found a free app that does what we were really looking for, AOD down the right side on the lock screen with clock, notifications, battery percentage etc!
HooRay!
It is called Always On Display Edge Lighting Super Amoled....yeah a mouthful but it works....except for 1 small problem but easily fixed me thinks.
For some reason it uses the proximity sensor and it switches the display OFF if the case is closed?? yeah I dunno why but I am going to drill a small hole in the case in the right spot to fix that PITA problem early tomorrow morning, bit late now.
So suck it sammy, I got my cheap chinese case AND my AOD for 9 bucks (case 5, first app 4 {now redundant}) second app free!
Hope I have helped someone.

Don't uninstall all of good lock just clockface

General Finally got it

Yeah, price tag is what it is and it took me a while to decide to buy it however, I've bought it.
Wanted badly to try the OPPO Find N2 but is basically impossible to find it Italy.
My Flip3 obviously went to my gf .
First impression is very good.
Got the 256gb version which are more than enough to me.
Front screen is awesome, I can now type with one hand. Inner display is awesome to use with two hands.
Phone however has a strange form factor and getting used to that is not easy also it's heavy and, with both the spigen covers I've bought, it looks like a brick. Not a problem, I like bricks.
Camera didn't impressed me at all to be honest. Also I've already faced some resolution problems with a game ( League of Kingdoms ) which I play all day long basically but it only happens on the inner screen.
Never stand reading books on phone but I think this one will make me change my mind. Also drawing on it is awesome.
This told, do you have any suggestions like apps and accessories for this brick?
Look up good lock that will give you some more little perks for some more little tweeks I had the og fold and liked it ill get another fold at some point though
posted this in another thread, thought you might find it useful

Try naked or aramid/leather case. It's a lot more durable than you think! Most things that would do it in will render any other flagship into a pile of broken glass any way you look at it!
The camera is fine for what it is, typical Samsung processing keeping results within its limits unlike the S22 ultra that pushes sharpening to the extreme. ;-) The only thing I miss is the long zoom but the 30X stretch still works for sign reading when needed.
samsung original case with flip back to make it a tablet stand... is a perfect choice for me.
