Screen fading in and out at random??

Hey, I am new to this forum, but just go the EVO (first Android phone) and loving it maybe too much. I'm also working on a couple of games which I hope to share soon.
Anways, I got mine on the 4th since I pre-ordered it a couple weeks in advance from Best Buy. I have been lucky to not have any of the problems others have been having, but something I just noticed recently, and only in the Market, but this could be because it is a mainly white screen that you stay on for long periods while browing apps so it is easier to notice.
The screen seems to randomly fade slightly darker and then back to normal, but slowly. I don't mean the regular screen idle fade because I have mine set to 10 minutes. I will be scrolling, and then the screen will just fade slightly and then in like 5-10 seconds will go back to normal, and then fade again in a couple minutes.
Not a big deal as sometimes it's hard to notice, but just wondering if anyone else has noticed this and if there is anything that can be done about it.
Thanks!
It sounds like you have Auto Brightness turned on. In your setting, go to sound & display, click on Screen Brightness. Uncheck the "auto brightness" box.
I think that was it! The screen is also a little brighter too.
Sweet, thanx a lot!
I had the same problem, Thanks for the tip.

Now you can go back to that same area in settings and up the brightness manually if you'd like.
Screen fading in and out/Flickering
Hello fellow XDA'ers
I am experiencing a similar problem. My screen fades in and out and flickers.
I unchecked the Auto Brightness option. The screen did become a bit brighter. But this did not resolve the issue. The fading in and out and flickering continues.
If any of you fellow XDA'ers have experienced this and know of a solution, would you be so kind as to share your solution.
Thanks so much

you want to disable it? display-> uncheck smart stay
? Are you saying that , even though you have smart stay on your phone still turns off .... It's works for me when the lighting is right.. Why not make the screen timeout longer.. Sorry
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
i want the screen to stay on as long as im looking at it. i have my timeout set to 15 sec when im not looking at it. smart stay is checked in the display options. the reason i dont want to extend the timeout is because i read articles for news and sometimes its 30 sec and sometimes 5 min. gets annoying with it blacking out the screen.
Smart stay seems to work in 2 phases. the First check is done slightly before the timeout period in which it dims the screen. The second check is done at the time out period and will turn the screen off if it does not detect eyes. Keep in mind it's using the front facing camera to detect your eyes so If your looking lower on the screen or looking at an angle it may not catch your eyes. Also note that poor lighting can result in a failure of smart stay detecting your eyes. I notice I cant rely on smart stay when browsing right before bed with the lights off or early morning.
Hope this helps.

Keep the clock on while Quick Circle case is closed

As the title says, I want to be able to close the case and still be able to see the Clock and the notifications. I have made sure the lock screen has not code and the screen does not time out, but I hate that I need to eithe ropen the front or tap the circle just to see if there are any texts and stuff.
bump.
I am interested in this as well. What's the point of having beautiful clock faces when it only shows for a 3 secs?
Mine shows for 3 secs, dimms for 1 sec, then turns off.
I would like to see this too.
i need this badly
Could a pro tell us how?
I have searched long for the answer on this question as well... No luck so far...
Yeah, this should be changeable somehow.
now why would you want to do that? The G3 doesn't have an amoled display so i'm pretty sure this functionality would eat up your battery like crazy because whole screen is forever turned on.

It doesn't have to be on forever, just being active 10 or 20 seconds would make a massive difference in perception.
Install the app Keep screen on.
Works well for the quick circle clock as well

AOD brightness way too dim...

Hey guys, like many of you I recieved my Note 10+, and I'm almost done with the full setup. I am having a slight issue though with my AOD screen being way too dim. It's so dim that I can hardly make out the notification symbols. I've gone through the Lock Screen settings, and removed the auto brightness, and set the brightness all the way up, but it's like it did nothing. It's still very difficult to make out the notification.
Just wondering if anyone else is having or had the same issue, and was able to fix it?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Sorry for the message above. I literally just figured it out by accident. Right after I posted I turned my phone off, and tapped the screen once to see the time, then for some reason i double tapped the clock, and i got a brightness slider. I turned it up all the way, and it's much better now.
Sorry for the post if it's already been mentioned. I'm back on Android for the first time after being on iPhone for the past few years. I feel like I need to learn everything again.

How notifications work without LED?

Hi
I'm currently with a phone that has an LED notification light which is pretty convenient for me because I'm the type of persons who usually check his phone only when there's a message. Nowadays, I knew that this convenient notification LED have been discontinued
If I buy a future One Plus phone, How can I tell if I get e.g. a whatsapp message without constantly checking my phone from time to time?
P.S. I'm also not interested to have an that thing called "on screen display" that is running 24/7 just for an average 2-3 messages I recieve / day. I'm aware of software notification LED in the app store but I'm not really into software solutions because they tend to eat battery life pretty much the same way as on screen display.
I also don't really understand what's the deal about eliminating it?! if they can't find a space for it on the edges - because edges became so small nowadays - they can simply merge it somehow with the punch out lens for the front camera! or make a built-in software solution that popus out the notification on the screen ONLY when I get a message.

First I thought that same but I think ambient display replaced the notification led. If you lift it up or just tap (not double tap) on the screen, you will see your notifications. I don't like always on display too.

So do I have to tap everytime I'm suspecting a message?! That's not convenient at all and I really hope that all manufacturers return back that LED notification light. It was a stupid decision to make really

No, if you get a message your phone will turn the ambient display on too, to show you the notification. But after a few seconds it will turn the screen off again.

That's still not convenient because I may not be present beside my phone to see the notification when it's triggered. The notification LED is blinking in a nicer continuous way to tell me that there's something i need to check. I still insist that ditching it was a very silly decision towards inconvenience

I know, but you will get used to it.
I also miss my notification LED from my OP6. I installed the app called NotifyBuddy to replace it.

But what about battery drain?

It's not good as the app needs to be running all the time even in the background to deliver notifications. I read so many negative reviews about such apps. Nothing is convenient like the LED notification

When using NotifyBuddy, disable notifications on ambient display and double tap to wake, so it can work properly.

That's what I don't like. Third party apps are mostly bad at batter drain.
Well if u guys are patient enough Oneplus already confirmed they are working on Always on Display for that reason.

The whole point of the discussion is return of the notification LED which doesn't need constant unlocking for the phone to see if there's anything new, nor does it need an always on screen display

Well if you read what is always on display you will realise you dont have to unlock your phone to see anything
Give NoLED a try.

I find the lack of LED very annoying.
yes, you can tap the screen, or lift it up to check, but I find it very common that a notification icon is NOT present, but if I unlock, and scroll down, I will see a new email/text/etc.

AOD, if well done, does not drain any more battery than a notification LED. When you get a notification, it will only lit up a few pixels on the screen, in any shape you want. You can literally simulate a LED with AOD. Personally I use the app "always on edge", I set it up to show the name of the contact and the messaging app when I receive a text, super useful, way better than just a LED. I didn't notice any more drain in battery life, I can still very easily last a whole day of heavy use.

that looks interesting.. thanks for the tip.
EDIT: I can't get AOE to show up on my OP7T when the screen is off? Am I missing something obvious? I gave it all of the permissions I saw it asking for... but still no visual way to tell I had a notification without touching the phone.
