Mod Boost+ to enforce 720p resolution? - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Currently we can force games to run at 1080p resolution which improves performance and battery life. But displaying 1080p image on 1440p screen is not ideal as the scaling will be "lossy", instead, if we could have the option to make games run at 720p, the pixel scaling ratio will be exactly 4:1, having an even bigger gain in performance.
Is it possible to mod Boost+ app so that we could run apps at 720p resolution?

one thing that u can do is this here!
See this
BTW: i think it makes no sense...only for Games in low Energy and Performance boost

you can connect htc to the pc and use the wm size 1080x1920 add shell, which will make it run full system and full hd, boost + will automatically reduce the game resolution to 720p and then go back to the adb shell and type wm size delete, the htc back to 2k but the game is still 720p.

[Q] Epic Optimal Video Settings

After much experimentation, I have found that the epic prefers 5:3 aspect ratio. If you want the maximum in clarity and optimized file size for your videos, here are the settings I came up with. Adding more to either bitrate wont help the quality.
Customized MP4 Movie (*.mp4) template in Freemake
Video Code: MPEG4 (NOT h.264 or x264)
Frame Size: 1000x600 (5:3 ratio)
Video Bitrate: 1280
Video framerate: 24
Encode Passes: 2
Audio Codec: AAC
Audio Bitrate: 160
Sample rate: 44100
Audio Channels: 2
Disable Audio: No
A/V Sync: Default
These settings work great on my Arnova 10b (Capacitive) and my Touchpad. They would also work great in an iPad or XBOX. I used the high resolution to fill the screen of my Arnova without stretching. It works fine on my Epic.
Here the question: Why 5:3? Any other aspect ratio does not actually fill the screen. If you make a 800x600 (4:3) video, you will find that the player does not actually fill the screen. Thoughts?
The screen resolution is 800x480, which is 5:3...
Just make the video 800x480, and it won't have to do any scaling.
Interesting. Gonna check my videos and see what res I have them in, because they look awesome as it is.

I did that resolution... It worked great for my epic.. I settled on the resolution I used because it worked awesome on all my devices.. even my touchpad. The cost in file size is almost nothing between the two resolutions.
Ok, I have a 720p video.. it looks amazing at its normal resolution of 1280x720.. no cropping that I can notice..
I'm an editor by trade.
What you're looking for is H.264 in .mp4. I tend to go for a video bitrate that hangs out around 1.5mbps and AAC stereo audio at 160kbps, 44.1kHz. There are quite a few artifacts in the shadows, but for watching a movie on an airplane it'll suffice.
The key to both a sharp picture and long battery life is to properly prepare the video. When your video is under or over 800px wide the Epic has to perform scaling to make it fill the screen (or sacrifice filling the screen if it is under). This scaling is an additional calculation it must perform, which hits the battery, and is a transformation on a lossy codec - a quality killer. If you have the render power (48 i7 cores and segmented processing makes for fast work) you can always hit it with mild sharpening for that extra pop.
Export your video at 800 pixels wide by whatever makes the correct aspect ratio. It's a bit of simple algebra, set up a proportion, cross-multiply, divide, and bang.
ex:
(1280/720)=(800/x)
1280x=720*800
1280x=576,000
x=450
800x450 <-- use this for any 16x9 broadcasts
(1.85/1)=(800/x)
1.85x=800
x=432
800x432 <-- use this for movies presented in 1.85:1, 2.35:1, and 2.40:1.
If it's 4x3 export at 640x480.
I just scale up to 4k. Looks pretty good =D

Suggestions

Good day to all of you. I would like to tell you my vision for Arc S improvements. Firstly in Gaming. MUST support GB ROM PLEASE!
In-Gaming there should be at least:
- Screen Resolution adjuster: ARC S is way better in 640X480 Resolution (MUST SUPPORT FIT TO SCREEN SO NO BLACK AREAS). Most apps will run at 30FPS stable or more (Dead Trigger, Subway Surfers, etc)
- Screen Resolution for apps: This will set your selected games to run at most at least 640X480 instead of 854X480. (MUST SUPPORT FIT TO SCREEN SO NO BLACK AREAS)This app will set your games resolution to desired resolution when launch.
- More Kernels that you can made to make further improvements or ask DoomLord's or Wedgess permission to continue their GB kernels or ICS or JB.(If existing)
This is my vision. Thanks for taking time to read this. Good day. I don't mean any harm if you think that.
I see your point, however I seriously doubt changing resolution from 854x480 to 640x480 gives any major performance boost (I have no idea, where are you taking it from).
Secondly, fitting the image with size of 640x480 to 854x480 screen will just end up quite stretched.
Well if you have such a vision you can start by learning Android programming and development instead of sitting there and telling the whole world your vision.

I tried it. Since The time I used SJB rom Subway Surfers since it lags massively on JB. I had an 26 FPS on normal 20 on Heavy. But when I set res to 640X480 the FPS increase to 33-38 FPS which is great. So it worked that well. But the resolution won't fit the whole screen. It will be stretched but not much. In Emulators epsxe normally on Arc S Crash Team Racing has 54/60 on Selecting character on Adventure mode. While I gained more speed when reducing to 640X480. I can run it at 60/60 at 640X480. Thanks for noticing my idea since I don't have any money to go to oher devices. This Arc S was originally an Arc (secondhand) given to me by aunt. Then I swap to Arc S.

1080 resolution game settings?

hi guys
most of you must know by now any graphic intensive game can run smoothly when the resolution of the device is changed from 2k to 1080 p . Is there a method or way to just change the resolution of the game and not the whole device ? I tried xposed module app settings but i can only change the dpi and the games still lag . Have any of you had any success in this ?

Lowering res to 1080p

Hello guys,
is there a way to lower screen res to 1080p by default (for system and everything running)?
Thank you
You can google "wm size" and "wm density", for 1080p you might as well set the dpi to 420. I don't recommend you do this on stock rom though.
If you think this can help you save battery life, it won't.
If you want performance, the gpu is strong enough for most apps that you probably won't notice any different between FHD or QHD. For 3D gaming, HTC's boost+ can lower the game resolution to 1080p.
Indeed, if you change the resolution and density, they can make some apps acting weird.

It doesn't open apps faster, but it can make the UI smoother (transitions/scrolling). This is entirely subjective of course, and then there's the variables of different rom/kernel combinations

Game battery booster?

Hello the game battery booster app installed on the htc 10 does anyone seem to have this working?
My understanding is that once you add a game to the list, the game will run at 1080p instead of 1440p but so far am getting poor performance in games and when I take a screenshot I see 1440p and not 1080p reason for my lower frame rate.
Is it really hard for htc to add an overlay that pops up saying when it's enabled?
OK is they any other apps out there that will down scale games? Without root.
Thanks
I use it for all of my games and it seems to have a very minor impact on battery life for the few games I do play. I haven't had an issue with poor performance with or without it enabled.

I think the screenshot should be 1440p as opposed to 1080p as your actual screen is still 1440p (bringing actual resolution to 1080p would cause black bars on the screen which would look unsightly). The game booster probably just forces the game to render at 1080p so fewer pixels are generated and less load on GPU.
I want game booster for my htc desire 820 g + and I have lineage os 14.1 custom rom plz anybody give me
