Because of a nice 20% discount I have, and being on a robust family share plan, I am pretty much chained to AT&T as far as saving me money. I owned every iPhone up to the iPhone 5, I returned it after a week and went to the Galaxy S3. I loved it, I loved the cutomization, tweaks, and feeling like I could do what I want with the phone. I enjoyed the iPhone Jailbreaking but the noose was getting tighter and tighter. I went next to the Note 3 and loved it as well, I felt free and like my device was my device, I could do what I wanted.
Sadly with the Note 4, although I have enjoyed it, if I could go back, I would have kept my Note 3. I know the screen is better, and my battery life is actually better then my Note 3, but I just feel like Samsung/AT&T puts me in a tough spot. Sure custom roms, and rooted devices isn't for everyone, but if I am going to pay $800 for a phone, I should be able to do what I want with it. I wouldn't buy a GPU or CPU that I couldn't tweak or overclock, its just my personality I guess and how I feel about my devices and the money I spend on them.
Does anyone else feel like they will be reconsidering their next phone purchase according to the state of the devices bootloader and ability to root and put on custom roms? I have been loving Sammy, but next year I WILL NOT be getting the Note 5 if things are the same. Interested in you guys thoughts on the matter.
I don't think anyone is excited about the locked boot loader.

I know that no one is "excited" about it, just wondering if for anyone else it is going to impact their purchasing decision as well. Again it was a big reason I got away from the iPhone myself.
I pulled the trigger a bit too early and got the AT&T Note 4 on release day and ended up taking it back 4 days later just because of the locked boot loader. Picking up a T-Mobile Note 4 tomorrow and using it on AT&T.

YEP I am still on an international Note II. Until i know for sure which International Note 4 will work on ATT :LTE, there is no reason to switch devices for me. I don't have LTE now so I am not missing anything. Otherwise I will wait for the prices to drop and buy the ATT version and live with it. I won;t pay $800 for a locked device unless its unlocked and rootable and at this point works on ATT LTE. I am reading of some people with the 910C working in US ATT with LTE. But I am not convinced yet.

I had an international note 1 before LTE was a big deal. Then I went with Tmobile for the note 3. Why not get what has been proven to work for the note 4 and get the 910T? You also have the option of switching carriers in the future and higher resale value here in the US. The international roms are ported over so you get the latest and greatest too.
I got a small discount for an ATT Note 4. I am on TMO and should have just paid the extra for the TMO version. Never doing this locked bootloader thing again. I just want root to restore full access to the microSD. Hopefully we'll get root before Lollipop...

Not being a negative Nancy, but I doubt root will happen anytime soon.
Just be honest all you guys are just Flashaholics and that's very addicted, I do understand your points i am a Developer for Roms , So for now The Note 4 i Got AT&T is running Amazing fast and i am in no hurry for root or a custom recovery if it even ever happens which i am sure it will, And of course i wouldn't mind it being unlocked and rooted, If it happens then i'll start Developing Roms again for my Device NOTE 4 , But i am enjoying the phone just the way it is, So all of you's gonna have to wait, If not do like some are doing which isn't working 100% if traveling a lot on T-Mobile it will fail certain areas for AT&T Service!
Another Thing is this won't last forever as all phones are gonna keep getting locked on all Providers it will Happen to T-Mobile and International, Sooner or later in the future there's not gonna be any Root and unlocked phones, it will keep getting worst!

I disagree that some point in the future all phones will be locked. Baloney. At that point the community will shift and we will all own that limited edition CM phone that came out (my friend got one). Open source and Android filled a gap where there was one before. We supported them, and now that they are so big and popular they crack down. It's only a matter of time before another giant rises from the mist and we throw our support behind that. I am a flashaholic and there is nothing wrong with that. But I will also add there are performance issues with the note 4, my ram usage is 2 gb on boot, and without greenify so many of my apps are causing wake locks in the background.

I understand my friend, i wouldn't mind it being unlocked and rooted like i said i develope roms, and as of now i have no issues at all with my note 4 it's running at least 2.6 on ram from 3gb of ram and i haven't had one issue at all no lags what's so ever performance is excellent as it is right now.

That might be how much is free but no way that's how much is being used. I've even restored a couple times, it doesn't drop that low even disabling bloatware. I'd like to see a screen shot, and any info on how if possible you pulled thst miracle off?

Really? I've been following this note 4 forum closely ever since it started and I haven't heard of the 910T "failing" in certain areas to get AT&T service. Can you cite any? I'd like to read them. I searched. I have heard nothing but good things and technically it should be 100% compatible except for LTE Advanced which is in a few cities and only for capacity. So normal LTE will work just as good/fast.

This post below by JasonJoel was referring to T-mobile service not the 910t on AT&T service.

Heck I would lose data even staying on interstate going from Austin to Dallas. Let alone any back roads.

And then your response talks about the 910t failing to get AT&T service. I think your friend must have had some settings wrong. Was this the N4 or N3?

Was note 4 and all settings were correct, i checked myself and did some testing on his phone and same thing happens plus i am a Developer so i knew what i was looking for and checking.

I got lucky I got them to trade my N4 for a Nexus 6 with a larger window because of the delay on the Nexus, so yeah I am bugging out this Gen and never looking back towards SAmmy again!

I've owned nothing but Android Phablets going back to the Dell Streak. Then copped the Note 1, 2 and now this one. If there's at least no root within the next year, i'll seriously consider getting a Iphone 6 plus. I felt the whole purpose of Android was freedom of choice and customization. None of apps that were running on my Note 2 are worth a darn since Titanium Backup is useless w/o root. I relied pretty heavy on TB. Freezing apps, backups scheduled weekly.
Since i got this phone two weeks ago, I've had a couple of freezes after phone calls. A "little" lag but nothing too heavy. I'm not liking this at all for overall. Sad face!!!

That is exactly what I did. Bought on off Swappa slightly used rommed and rooted. $690. I have the unlock code coming and hope to use it on ATT by next week. I did not want to have to join T Mobile for a month. Swappa has a few of them available. :good:
If I like the specs and features of the next one, I will get that also.
Rooting is a luxury to me, not a necessity as it is for some.
I'm a note 1, 2, and 3 user. This phone (even unrooted) just blows me away everyday. I'm very much looking forward to root and know it will happen soon. BUT, in my alcohol enhanced state, I just wanted to give some love to an amazing piece of technology. Samsung. You did well.

Agreed. I'm pretty much like running stock. With root I would like to increase head phone and speaker volume just a little. Plus kill some bloat. Otherwise quite happier than I was on previous devices.

Is there a way to improve the clarity when rooted? On speaker, mine is much louder than even my tweaked note 3 and pretty much the same or better than my old note 2 (God rest it's soul). If I crank it to much with headsets, it distorts.
This phone doesn't have root guys and, quite frankly, functions incredibly well right out of the box. It's the first Android I have had that has not given me an overwhelming desire to tweak. If root comes.. Cool. If not, equally cool.

my note 4 is sitting on my desk collecting dust. I have a one plus one, and I LOVE it. I gave it (the one plus) a week to try things out, and just...damn its a good phone. Not to mention there is NO sweat in rooting it. I cant really even run root with my email apps, and the MDM app that is also necessary, but its so easy to root - install my apps, adaway, etc, and then unroot it and we're all good w/ MDM..
I cant believe I'm paying monthly for this thing and it's just sitting here. Not to mention in preference for a phone at less than half the cost.
I looked at the one plus, but got the Note 4 free so I took it. BEST decision I could ever make, even without root. I love this phone. I have all 4 Notes, and an S5, it's rooted, stock, but rooted. The 4 is by far the best one yet. There is but one reason I want root, SD writing, but LolliPop is said to fix that soo...

Me and you must be opposites lol. I literally JUST sold my oneplus one on ebay after buying a Note Edge (pretty much a note 4)
I definitely agree the oneplus was crazy easy to root and customize.... hell I never even flashed a rom because with root stock you had so much control (I'm usually a Crack flasher).
And yeah the note 4 its locked down But hey... now I have something to look forward to... in the future I'm sure someone will find a loophole in the ATT note 4/edge bootloader security.

Nobody ever found a way to crack the s5, or Note 3, so the Note 4 won't be an exception. Especially now since Hascode is gone.

I agree, phones are a peculiar beast. I too have not yet re-rommed it yet because I'm satisfied with CM11.
When I got my note 4, I considered an Edge. I had my mind set on it....but when I got to the store and started looking around I buckled and got the standard 4. Of course, they didnt have them in stock either, so that helped lol. Now in the days of tempered glass screen protectors, a phone that doesnt have/cant have one, is a big gap for me.

Paid for it with ATT Next....so I'm paying for it for like 24 months.
It's not a low supply phone like the nexus 6 I had for a short period. I bought that on Next, didnt like it, sold it for cash and paid off Next. I lost a net of $5 between the phone, tax, case, and screen protector. I did OK.
If I sold my note on craislist or swappa, id get what...MAYBE 6-700 bucks...so I'm losing a few hundred, plus tax, and likely not get reimbursed for the cases and screen protector.
I think people should have root access, but I agree with the OP. This is a great phone. I've rooted almost every device and have no urge to root my N4.

I tend to agree...I rooted my OPO and then unrooted it after installing adaway. I have email and MDM and my company will reject my device if its rooted.
However, with the note 4, along with adaway, I want wanamxposed and xposed as well. I HATE the carrier bit in the status bar. With touchwiz and the crappy DPI, you barely have any notification bar real estate as it is......add in the stupid AT&T or AT&T MICROCELL, and I lose the whole thing. Wanam helps clean that junk up. After that, I can nix the root.

Bummer. I hope you're wrong, but I have no evidence to suggest that to be the case. I've been in the HTC world for a little while...
My current phone is a Note 4. I've been a Sammy user since Galaxy was introduced (started with Captivate, as I"m on AT&T.)
So, interestingly, I"m not very happy with the Note 4:
AT&T issue - Not rootable. (I don't care any longer for custom ROMS, but miss some capabilities that root offers)
I have several little crazy issues, but 2 main ones are: Google voice prompt speaker whistles with feedback when first say 'OK Google' (Got a replacement and same issue on it); Can't get any app to consistently read texts over BT while driving.
I think the bloatware is causing some performance problems for me. I have disabled several and it did help.
I have a LOT of apps installed. Always have. Counting bloatware that may not be disabled, I have around 150.
Oh, also, I have lots of problems with Pandora on this phone. When the accessory is launched from my car, often it fails. When I play Pandora app, it often quits playing if it is not the front/active app. Very annoying.
If multitasking, it definitely has strong lags.
So I was thinking that the Note 5 would be my final phone for a while (actually thought that about this one). But I read that the 4GB is half used up on initial boot. So, I'm thinking I need to move to something less bloated. I don't have any confidence that the Note 5 would be rootable, I did have confidence that it would be eventually on the Note 4...but it's taking a long time.
Given my large app list, I'm thinking thatI should not settle for less than 4GB . Less bloat may help that issue...look at a pure Android experience maybe. (Of course chasing that via a custom ROM may be an alternative...but we know the status of that on the Note 4. Plus, in the past I've tried a lot of different ROMS, including popular 'stable' ones, and they ALL have bugs.)
I'm hoping to get something that works much better hands free. Haven't had much luck with that with any of my Android phones. I had much better luck with that way back when I was on Microsoft's phone OS, before Windows phone...with Microsoft's Voice Command.
Thinking of switching to Tmobile. Trade in the Note 4 for a Moto X style. Great specs for $399. It'll be easy to pay off. Service monthly payments will be cheaper then att.
But I've invested money in a gear vr and cases. Still deciding and looking at other devices.
Also most Samsung phones on Tmobile are or at most times get root.

I'm waiting for the official launch of the Note 5, and if it doesn't have the expandable memory as its being reported, then I'm a definite bye-bye Samsung. And no matter what, never again AT&T.

I actually considered purchasing a TMobile one when I got this one. Could still sell/change...but I've lost confidence in the Samsung brand working. I hear good things about the Moto phones. I'm considering the Pure...but given my penchant for a lot of apps (none of them games), I'm thinking I need 4 GB RAM.
I don't want to change to TMobile due to less coverage. I have considered moving to Verizon to bet better data speed in my area (St. Augustine, FL), but they would cost me more than AT&T, and I'm not sure I would get better data speeds.

Sounds pretty much for sure it won't have the SD. But even if it does, in my case, I'm just ready to move away from Samsung. Of course, I could find I have as much trouble getting what I want it to do with any of them.
I checked on the Moto site, and it says we can test for 14 days and return for free if not happy. I may just give that a whirl.

I used the note 5, it's the same memory as the s6, you shouldn't be surprised. And you should have no hope for root or an unlock on any att or verizon phone. Seriously, you all know what to expect, but the phone from tmobile or the international version.

No surprise to me. That's part of why I'm ditching Samsung. Maybe my posts haven't been quite clear about that though.
I got to see and hold the note 5, just confirming the reports of no expandable media.

I feel you big time. I also love big ole sammy, but bloat is a huge problem. I have been using the GS6 edge for the last week and I will say I love it. My note 4 is sooooo sssluuggish. Its gets frustrating. I also have a lot of app.s. Maybe that is the problem. I got this to be my everyday device. A phablet. But I am really leaning the direction of just having my nexus for reading/gaming and a phone for social. That has really been working for me this past week. The GS6 Edge is very snappy and the less bloat on these new phones help a lot. I aloso disabled a bunch and put on nova on and call me speedy gonzalez because I am flying.
Yep me too! My next phone will definitely have to be the One plus Two or Moto X 2015. It all depends on what I can get my hands on first. I love Samsung, but if I can't have my freedom on what I wanna do with my phone, there's no point of having an android version of an iPhone. Because if those were my only two options, iPhone would be my first choice. I choose Android because of Root, and customization. Not stupid Knox and carriers locking the bootloader crap. I wish I would've kept my jailbroken iPhone if I knew that were the case. So yeah definitely One plus Two, maybe Moto X if it's unlockable and rootable
Since some Notes are locked down and others not,shouldn't everyone's anger be placed on the carrier? Obviously AT&T and Verizon are the ones at fault. If you like the Note series buy unlocked or go for the guaranteed unlocked Nexus. I have both so when I want to mess around I have the Nexus and sometimes it's nice to trade off to the full featured Note. It really is the best way to go and keeps my anger to a minimum. I have to say with the Nexus you never have these back and forth games and you can do whatever you want without worrying about an update locking you out for the long term.

May try T-Mobile Note 4 - Root...
Before I abandon Samsung, I may try abandoning the AT&T version of the Note 4.
I haven't been interested in putting on ROMS (did that a lot on previous phones, and I find even for those that are touted as 'solid', there are always one bug or another), but maybe that is what I should do. Been reading on various ROMS over on the T-Mobile forum.
So, if I do this, next I need to decide whether to abandon TW (I do like some of the features...), then if not, whether to install a KitKat or LP ROM. I may try one or both of those options, then if not happy, try AOSP.
Then if not happy, maybe by then there will be reviews out on others I'm considering...although the Nexus has to arrive. From what I'm seeing, it'll be October before that gets out.
My anger is with ATT for being locked down and even more so Samsung. Their greed is borderline criminal IMHO. There is absolutely no reason why the Note 4 and Edge cannot have the updated Touchwiz. Wish I had stuck with my Nexus 6, but only gave up on it because it didn't take advantage of the big screen and Android M took care of that. Been trying to trade my Edge for a G4 or N6 for weeks now.
Still seriously confused why some st**id carriers locked down phones? Should have make some research before trading my trustworthy Note 3 for Note 4 at&t. I don't see this device having unlocked bootloader soon G4 callling
I had faith they would break it and be able to root it. Seems that the developers for Samsung or AT&T is finally getting ahead of our developers and winning that battle.

Lol also 2nd ur opinion. I gave up on this phone been root able, deal is the phone is fast still so I don't have the need to root lol but I do have a gear s from att?which I would like to one day install a Droid port but sucks is att and locked. Stupid carrier

The locking of bootloaders is to exponentially increase security in order to gain military, government and corporate contracts...which they did. Verizon and AT&T Samsung devices were rated highest in security in today's market. T-Mobile and Sprint chose not to most likely because they do not have the coverage country-wide to encourage those sales.
I find it so mind boggling that after checking these forums daily since the phone was released there is still no (permanent) root for this phone. Am I wrong for thinking this? With all the brains and experience out there you would think something would have happened by now. I seriously think there is a permanent root solution out there and it's being kept a secret from the rest of us. Sorry for ranting, I have no one else to explain my frustration to besides the people here. Have a nice day.
I hear ya, which is why I am going to sell my Note4 and get another phone. No more Samsung Android phones for me unless i change to T-Mobile which will never happen due to lack of reception at my house.
I'm switching to T-Mobile and sticking with LG once this contract is up, at&t and Samsung can go fly a kite.
You could sell yours and get an unlocked t-mobile version. I am frustrated too, but the only solution at this point is to be proactive. Peace!
Yeah I'm not doing a Samsung phone again.. sure it may have the best screen and what not, but I'll gladly take up to date android OS/root/recovery over that. You could sell your note 4 for about 350, then ebay a t-mobile version, or put in another 100 and get the new nexus or moto x pure
Yeah I'll see what T-Mobile can do for me to switch, I've read they will pay up to $300 for your phone and up to $350 for early termination fees in the form of a credit if you switch, Not too bad of a deal. AT&T if you're reading this, double middle fingers to you assholes.
Hate to add to the same type of replies however I can't agree more with all of you. Not just about root either. Updates come to us so slow and this device has always had slightly more lag then my s4. Pretty sure i'm either going straight to the source with the Nexus line or switching over to iOS. I'll miss the spen but at least the current Nexus phone has AMOLED.
I am with ya too. Once my contract on my At&t Note 4 is up in 2017. I am thinking about switching to whatever Nexus device is out, or a budge device like the OnePlus or Moto G, so I could root it or customize it as I choose.

It's probably going to be so limited to a few major cities for quite a long time. If the price makes sense and the quality is there then absolutely. Building an entire mobile network that is capable of reaching 99% of the country is extremely expensive and time consuming. The 4 major carriers have been working on it for 20 years and they are still building towers like crazy.
As for phone recommendations, I recommend looking at all the variables in the equation and make your decision accordingly. For me, checking to see if root has any progress or is already available is at the top of my list, followed by the device itself. To sum it up, some phones aren't very practical (nexus 6) but they excel in **** that matters to me (first to get system updates and easily rootable).

I will never get sucked into the samsung hype ever again. This phone has generally received good reviews since day one, and I honestly have hated it since the day I obtained it. I had an S4 before this note 4, and I have to say that I hated that phone too. The hardware is awesome, and the software is sub-par bull poo poo. Every samsung phone I have ever had has had problems. Namely with the GPS, among other things, but I think any problem I have ever had with a samsung phone could have been solved with custom firmware. I know this is as much, or more so, a carrier issue as well as a manufacturer issue. The manufacturer puts crap software on the device, then the carrier locks it down so that you are stuck with it. The note 5 looks flashy as hell, but I will not get sucked in again! C'mon Nexus!!
Isn't the Note 5 already rooted with working TWRP? I don't understand how that phone could be rooted so fast and the Note4 will never be.

That is the t-mobile, sprint, international versions; all have an unlocked bootloader. The Verizon and att versions have a locked bootloader with a sha-256 key. If you read the att version does not boot if tried to root.
Even without perma-root (or root at all for those on LP like myself), this is still a darn good phone. Shame I can't use my gamepad properly, but at least I've only a year left before I can go for something else. Honestly, even with a chance of never getting root, I'd still get a Note 6 (when that comes, I mean).
That new nexus 6p is where I'm heading. Samsung really screwed us :/. On my note 2 I ran pure stock android because it's smooth as hell! I have to be stuck with Samsung's nonsense running the background with the note 4... Can't wait for the nexus 6p to drop. I'll be first in line!

Not Samsung, AT&T and Verizon are who is screwing you. They made the choice to lock everything down for more profits.
I finally gave up and sold my AT&T Note 4 for a T-Mobile variant. The difference is night and day, I was having severe battery drain, and normally would be <20% by the end of the day today, for the first time I haven't had to charge my phone overnight, and the battery is still at 65%. It drained 1% overnight for 8 hours.
Custom ROM and Kernels make a HUGE difference. Now I don't have to keep power saving mode on, which also increased lag and I can actually go a day without having to charge my phone and I get all the other benefits of root. Definitely will not buy another Samsung phone with a locked bootloader, I was getting ready to switch to an iPhone because I was so unhappy with the Note 4 performance and battery life.
I am on the ATT next program. Do I have to pay off phone before I sell it?

What I meant to say was. Samsung also screwed us with the note 5.. They let their customers know they are headed into the iLame direction. I left apple after 4 years because it lacked tons of features. I'm assuming Samsung will drop the s pen on the note 6 and turn it into a $99 Samsung Pencil that you will have to buy on the side by the looks of it hahaha.
I already have a Note 3 but would love to try a Gear VR. Finally found an okay price for a Note 4 on craigslist today and was excited to give it a go. I'm on tmobile but my verizon Note 3 functions just fine so I thought I'd "upgrade."
So far ... I kind of hate it.
The fact that this phone can't be rooted (because of Verizon?) wouldn't be quite so depressing if it weren't for the hideous pastel colors staring me in the face every time I pull down the tool bar or open a menu ... Yes I've installed a custom launcher but it doesn't change the 80's era color scheme ... This is 2015. I can't choose the background color on my own damn phone? Really?
I had my Note 3 setup the way I wanted it to look with a rom that gave me a lot of options, and going from having control over aesthetics to having basically no control over them is a shock. Like moving from a house you own and can paint any color you want to an awful pastel apartment that you can't paint because the landlord won't let you.
The lockscreen. I liked the option on my Note 3 to pick the effect when unlocking my phone. The rippling water effect was my favorite. Now I have ... no such option? The choice to change it seems to be grayed out?
The heat. Running low graphic Cardboard apps and the back of this phone seems to be getting awfully warm awfully fast. Haven't tried anything really intensive yet but I'm already worried about heat.
Speed. Not notably faster (no pun intended) than my customized Note 3. Apps that were slow on the 3 ... are still slow on this phone. Menus seem to open at about the same speed or possibly even slower.
Pixel density. I thought having a higher resolution screen would mean less visible picture structure ... Not really seeing it. I can look at my two phones side by side and unless I zoom in, there is not that much visible difference in image quality, except ...
The one good thing:
The camera. Took a couple of photos and am really impressed by the amount of detail that shows up. Definitely a big leap over the camera in my Note 3 ...
But ... I'm thinking maybe I should sell this to someone else on craigslist and go back to my Note 3.
Anyone else have a similar reaction? Am I missing something here?
Honestly only you can answer that question. In regards to root, only DE have it as far as I know for any carrier. If you HAVE to have root, then it might have been a mistake.

Actually the Note 4 on Sprint and T-Mobile are both rootable. Verizon and AT&T are the a**holes here. Actually @Haints you just made the same mistake most other people did. You didn't do the research before you spent your money. Because I've been practically living in this forum for 4 years I've seen the day when Verizon would lock a phone down to where nobody would be able to root it coming. I bought a Note 4 Developer Edition.
What a terrible corporate policy. WHY do they do that? Well, I've learned my lesson. I will never buy a Verizon phone again. ( Scratch that. Sounds like you never really "own" a Verizon phone to begin with, since they lock it down to keep the OS the way they want it. I will never ... rent a Verizon phone again?)

You're not the only one. It's heartbreaking to see this happen to so many people. The Verizon Note 4 forums are depressing. Pretty much all of us plan to leave Verizon someday. The only reason I'm still with them is T-Mo and Sprint suck so bad around here. I'm just hoping for them to improve some.
The reason they do it is because locking them makes them more secure. All of the big corporate and government accounts like them that way. Hackers are becoming more of a problem. Verizon makes a lot of extra money because they are more secure than the others. We'll probably all lose our rootable phones soon.

I've already given up.
I've been stuck with the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 4 ever since it launched last year...I bought it right as it came out, expecting that it would get root at some point like previous phones.
Every single day I've visited these forums, patiently waiting for a permanent root. I have so much pent-up frustration over waiting that I recently splurged on a 128 GB Frost Huawei Nexus 6P and permanently canceled my Verizon contract. I gave up.
I've been a loyal Verizon customer since 2007 with previous phones rooted and I just couldn't stand it anymore. I'm sick of being treated like a child not being able to do what I want with a phone that I purchased with MY money.
I hope they realize that they're going to be losing loyal customers like me at a rapid pace over digging their heels on this ridiculous policy.
I preordered the retail version at upgrade price ($300) and sold it a month later for $590 after giving up on waiting for root. Then paid an extra $110 for the developer edition. So I paid for a developer edition for $410 instead of $700. I wish I thought about this once I got the phone to sell it for more but overall I still came out on top. The DE Note 4 is the best phone out right now on Verizon. Nothing compares, yet. And I still have unlimited data but I hear they are changing the price to $50 a month for people who are grandfathered in D:

Unfortunately, VZW doesn't care. People who root their devices make up a small percentage of their customers. VZW is more concerned about promoting safety and security.
I was an iPhone user up to the release of iPhone 6. Decided to get Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (verizon) because of easy access to change battery. (As each new iPhone model made seems to make it more difficult.) I've had the Note for over a year. I keep telling myself that I'll get used to it. I haven't yet. I hate it! I fight with it every time I want to do a simple task. On top of how confusing it is to use compared to iPhone. Battery drains fast. Screen turns on randomly. And now any app I try to install from google play AND amazon app, it just hangs saying, "installing.........."-google play. And "install pending........"-amazon. It's been like that for 48 hours now. WTH? I have 10 gigs free'd up. I restarted app, restarted phone tried searching Forums. YES, I hate this phone. And if Samsung drops support on this phone, I'm going to drop my support for Samsung products.
Yeah you screwed up just like the rest of us. I came from ATT, who are assholes by the way, and am pretty much gonna dump Verizon when my contract is up. I will buy my own phones from now on, no more carrier branded, locked out , **** phones like this one. The Note 4, when locked down, is actually a turd. its slow, it crashes and pretty much just all around sucks. Root would make this a great phone, but there will never be root until long after this phone is ancient and useless.
They say Android 6 will fix the issues that Android 5 caused. The Note 4 with Android 4.4 ran good. The latest word is Android 6 will come in February.
