Are Android Nougat 7.0 custom roms impossible for our devices? - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

Is this more of thing for OEM companies not going to update their snapdragon 800/801 to nougat (not that I would expect any of these older devices with this soc to get updated anyway), or is this something that any developer won't be able to get around?

Supposedly those using CM13 are already stuck at KitKat level Drivers. Or at least that's what I've been told in a different Thread. So the imedimmediate thought is that it might be possible to get 'round it, in a similar fashion. But, I gather it's still not fully known just what kinda hit the Device would take, given the lack of unoptimized Drivers.
AFAIK: Qualcomm have had their hands tied as the MSM8974 (i.e. Snapdragon 800), does not, and will never support the Vulkan API, which is now being fully enforced by Google as the baseline for Nougat compatibility. Since this is more of a MSM8974 thing, and not an OEM thing, there will be a lot of unhappy people with far better supported Devices then ours. Who will be left in the cold by this decision.
But, it's early days yet, and I'm not even sure how far Cyanogen has even gotten with it?
Honestly I wouldn't even expect anything from them too the early days of 2017 at the earliest.

Have you tested camera with Google Camera or Open Camera? I've seen other CM14 ROMs where camera only worked with one of those camera applications.

Camera Drivers?

Does this help us with our camera driver issues?
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/htc-8mp-cameras-by-omnivision-use-universal-drivers/
Our camera is samsung S5K3H1GX 8M
according to /sys/android_camera/sensor
How would one go about doing this?
I'm more than ready for a good camera again. I flashed a gingerbread Rom to compare them and I forgot just how good this phones camera actually is.

Then it doesn't help much. The universal drivers are for omnivision, not Samsung. Although, reading the thread linked in that article, it looks like other devices have the same camera model. Might be able to pull drivers from a different device.
Edit: disregard this, read post below.

changing the drivers of the camera meaning that the omnivison and samsung are interchangeable since they use the same camera drivers and if we port the omnivision it means a fully working camera on ics for us

I kid... I think I got it.. LoL!! Just hope we can fix it before HTC does.. I always love seeing that happen!
Has any of the Dev's tried this?
If so, is it just for Sense ROM's or can it be used for AOSP ROM's also?
Would be nice to have some progression on the camera for sure. It always seems like the lynchpin for me switching. Kind of sad when I have a perfectly nice camera to use, but it's not something I carry all the time. I just want to be sure I have a working camera at all times, just in case I can get that irrefutable proof of extra-terrestrials. Can't afford a force close in that kind of situation lol.

Redmi note 5 pro Automatically updating

Hi
My redmi note 5 pro was running on 9.2.4 (which is the most stable version in my opinion, u guys may have other opinions) . Yesterday n8, i put my phone on charging, when i checked today mrng, i found that, my redmi note 5 pro got updated to 9.2.13 automatically. I am 100% sure that i disabled automatic update in settings . Anyone know how does it happened?. My phone is connected to wifi network 24×7.
After that I again rolled back to 9.2.4, but again it's auto updating.
Anyone know, how to disable it??

Everybody knows this such a bad manufacturer tendency to force auto updates on their devices. Im sure if many people asks Xiaomi about this, they will tell that this is a bug, but my opinion is that they did it purposely. And nothing we can do here.
My humble advice is to use latest version because its really better, many bugs fixed there.

If it was any other OEM, i would surely update my phone. But unfortunately it's xiomi. They will only release buggy updates.
For redmi note 5 pro Indian version , xiomi released more than 5 updates , none of them are bug Free (9.2.13 was somewhat bug free, but its not as good as 9.2.4)
One thing i noticed that, these automatic update was not taking place before 1 week. My phone was running on 9.2.4 for past 2-3 months without auto updates like these.
Update your phone to 9.5.19 and you wont regret it (most stable ROM with better battery life) and be happy that xiaomi is rolloing out software updates quickly
Yeah xiaomi seems to do at least some work with software, compared to other manufactorers

Absolutely true.
They are ruining there own image with these kind of buggy updates
As you may know android source code consists of many many lines of code, and it is only increasing. As you also may know, adding some features leads to increase in code lines, which may (and in long run will) introduce some bugs. This is a rule. (I am not talking about bricking, introduced by a reasoned decision of company, to force people have a latest software, to cut costs and ease being)
Debugging is a hard work, and needs resources. Different manufactorers apply different amounts of resources to debugging, and it is a big off topic subject.
Right now I can compare latest Sony phone with Xiaomi phone, and see that Xiaomi did a much bigger work in latest years with software than Sony, which stuck in 3 years old software.

Since it was there for 2 months, how come no experience cook interested to build one or port other ROM for Mi 8SE?

Look like we had to wait for some time before it picked by an experience cook to produced any custom ROM for us.
Or maybe they are waiting for the Android pie source code before spark the stove?
Hmm...
What does this mean? Why is there no MI 8 custom ROMs yet? Am getting worried that this phone will have lack of support... did I mistakenly buy this device thinking there will be great support for Custom ROM?

I dont think mi 8 source code is out. Hopefully it comes out soon. I was hoping for a decent amount of third party roms and mods with this device. Going from a Oneplus device to xiaomi there is much less than the OP6 had in the first week of it coming out
Interesting.. The kernel source pointed out that this phone uses EAS instead of the archaic SMP. Battery life must be superb. Thinking to pick one up.

It definitely helps with the general smoothness, it's the qcom version of EAS which comes with SD710 if I'm not mistaken. Both the Mi 8 SE and Mi 8 have it so you can't do wrong with anyone of them and the SE is currently the absolute best at the sub-300 Euro price point.
What is the GPU frequency.?I think we can overclock both CPU and GPU.Qualcomm has undercloced the soc otherwise it will beat SD 835
I know I'm no dev but my take on future custom ROM is because pie have better support for notched screens and also current lineage os is not compatible with notched screens phones atm. I will stay patient for a pie release

1. Please search the forum
2. It's not gonna happen on Exynos. You'll have to make peace with the Samsung camera or switch phones.

You can try that one, works for my note10+ even though results are better most of the time with stock cam, but it helps sometimes :

No reason why it should not happen. It probably will, even though not as advanced as what it is on Snapdragon.
Since Google Camera is a port from Pixel devices, which are using Snapdragon SoC, it's hard to get it working for exynos, MTK, ...
There's versions that work for exynos, but they miss a number of features.
Look at this thread, it has GCam for exynos Galaxy S10:

Play around with the config file to your Note 10.

Question Gcam

Anyone tryied a working gcam port for A32 4G. Ultracam doesn´t work.
Don't search anymore: our phone will not support it until rooted. Camera2api is disabled.
Samsung, You are the worst.

It's true... disappointing that Samsung has decided to block that option... sad.
Regular GCam doesn't work, but GCam Go should work.
Some links from the A22 thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/a22-gcam.4342111/post-86114193
Sadly Camera Go's quality isn't as good as regular GCam, but might be better than Samsung's camera.
Test and leave feedback to help other users.
the GCam that worked for me is PenguinGCam v7.0-hotfix1
Does anyone knows if there is any app with a comparable "Night Sight"?
GCam Go is ok (much better than stock camera night mode), but the original GCam is definitely even better. I wonder if there is any other app with similar results for low light pictures.

Isn't Samsung fault actually (I don't know what to tell about if was their choice choose MTK SoC in first place), since A32 4G has a Mediatek SoC, you can't enable Camera2API in Mediatek processors and Gcam doesn't support Mediatek processors, mostly Snapdragon processors are the most compatible with Camera2Api and Gcam, even there are some methods for make it work but not all are functional. We talked the same for those we have A22 4G.
