Note 7 Screen Replacement After Cracking - My Experience - Note 7 Questions & Answers

Hello, so I thought it might be helpful to share my experience. I got my Note 7 on launch day (August 19th) from a retail Bell Store here in Canada. The salesperson offered to sell me as case as well but I thought it was ugly and didn't want to cover up this beautiful device. I also turned down purchasing extra insurance as I have never broken a phone before and I've had a lot of them.
Anyway it wasn't even 24 hours later I was working and the phone slipped from my hand...max 4 inches from the ground... But on to concrete. It unfortunately also hit on the edge and shattered the top left corner of the display. I was surprised at the damage this being Gorilla Glass 5 and all.
The display still worked just small part of glass missing and cracks. I knew this would drive me nuts and not something I could live with so I called Samsung to see if I could pay to have it fixed. They suggested I either send it to a repair shop or take to a local authorized one in person. There was a place about 3 hour drive away so I went this route. The place couldn't do it right away, they had to order a replacement display because they had none in stock. I went to Atlantic Cellphone Repair in Moncton, New Brunswick. Less then one week later it was in and I dropped off my phone. It was the first Note 7 they had done. They were going to ship it to my home to save me the trip again because the guy who specializes in the newer Samsung phones was out for the day.
It cost me around $400 Canadian to have fixed. It's coming in the mail today. I should have taken a picture of before but I forgot. I've been assured by Samsung it will still maintain the waterproofing. I don't plan on ever completely submerging it anyway but this is still important to me.
Ill update later today with how the repair turned out, after I get it home and try it out. I'm now going to be using a case even though I hate to. This phone needs it it seems.

Update: Got it today and highly impressed. They seem to have also replaced the metal band part as it had chips before but looks pristine and had another Qualcomm sticker on it where I had taken the other off. So while it's expensive it did turn out good.

Camera Glass

So sometime between friday and today I've managed to crack the glass over my camera. I have no clue how this could have happened since I have it in a seidio innocase, and the camera rests below the case. I don't get why they didn't use the same type of glass for the camera as they did for the scree!
In any case, I'm not sure what to do to fix it? I'm still within my 30 days (barely!) but I'm not sure if it's a widespread enough issue for me to try and get them to replace it.
Any advice you guys can give me would be appreciated.

They have to replace it if it's within 30 days. Go replace it no way you can fix that.
So basically tell them to fix it or that i'll return the phone and cancel my service? (i'm also a new customer)
well if you have the insurance that may help a little.. but im not sure if you would have to pay that crazy $100 fee
I'm not sure they'll take it back in the 30 days, since it's not a defect and the phone isn't in "like new condition." You broke it, so they probably won't accept it.
If you haven't purchased the phone insurance yet, I would just purchase that and then wait a while and attempt to get it exchanged that way. Also, a repair facility might be able to replace it..?
As I said on another forum, if you end up pulling out the glass (because it is very easy to replace yourself), take some measurements. We should be able to get a sapphire lens that will replace it and be much more durable.
I read somewhere, either here or one of the other forums that the camera lens cover is actually made of plastic. The poster said he heated a pin and was able to push it through like a hot knife through butter.

Interesting... Got a link?
I turned the phone over on day 18, and yes, my glass has a "popped" right down the middle. I babied this thing in a gooey case, b.c even though 2.5 years with an iphone with no case and no issues, i thought htc was being gusty with their protruding camera, so for that reason alone I went with a case.... and NO WAY, crack. and i did the run around yesterday. I called HTC, and even thought the person who called the rep right before me complained of the EXACT same issue, short ownership and glass crack, they said sadly the crack is considered physical damage and not yet a issue htc is aware of. so i called a local Sprint store who said oh yeah, no problem, your within the 30 days right? yes, call this number at sprint headquarters, they will send you a new one and a box to send the old one, bla bla bla like its totally no problem, however, the corporate sprint rep kindly regrets i have been misinformed, and its physical damage. then i call the local store back and they are bummed and send me to a different store, a cooperate repair place who they believe would swap it out. this guy says, bummer, looked at it via a microscope, says its a plastic sheet cracked straight through with small perpendicular cracks and due to popularity they don't even have any repair parts... basically they get them as people smash their front screen, then they part them out. b.c. the phones are so new and popular, they don't have any (i'm in a 4g area). so he just said take the phone to any cooperate store, not bestbuy radioshack, (third party dealers) and say that i received the phone damaged, and just noticed it now, and they should they will swap you with one due to being in 30 days. So i will try that today, but i feel caught in a catch 22. its not even 30 days and the device breaks, which qualifies as physical damage from the customer, so no one will swap phones with you, and b.c its so new and hard to get, no one has parts even, repair facilities, so our 30 day window will run out before we can get it fixed for free... Next day i try a second corporate store, for sure the cracked high strength plastic is considered physical damage so there is no way to return phone and cancel service, you will still be stuck with the cost of the phone. so. because its still early, you can add insurace 7 bucks a month, 100 buck deductible. so basically my options are 107 for a phone with a perfectly sealed camera that doesn't create any glare in low light pics or pics shot into a light source, or i can just ride it out, and hope over time htc does something or parts become available via ifixit.com. so. mega bummer no idea how it broke, obviously everyone who looks at the single crack has to believe you somehow maliciously directly hit it on something with a protruding point, and i'm pretty sure it wasn't there when i got it, but i do know i didn't do anything out of the ordinary, so its a real puzzler. but, i would say if you have this issue, take it to a sprint repair facility if only to have the tech log the problem on thier system ,b/c then more techs will add notes to the issue and sprint/htc will have actual legit feedback to see if its a trending problem. even though you are going to get nowhere, even within the 30 days, make the complaints so the problem get's noticed. oh and did i mention i bought 2 one for me, one for my wife... with hers, so far so good. would love to hear if any others had luck fabricating one out of sapphire or something else really durable. its got to be a 20 cent piece of plastic.
That sucks man, sorry to hear that. I know other people have had the same issue. Hopefully htc owns up and fixes it.

n7100 owner in the USA, dropped my phone and cracked screen

Hello fellow n7100 owners. All input welcome, but especially from other US residents who own n7100s.
So I did something stupid this weekend. I wore these loose shorts with loose pockets and dropped my phone when I sat in my car.
The screen is cracked now at the top right. It turns on just fine, works as usual, and the touch sensitivity also seems to be normal in the area of the crack. So it seems like the problem is just cosmetic at this point, , and in a darkly lit room, it's hard to even see the cracks when the screen is own.
But it's bothering me to look at it, I really liked the way this phone looked and kept my screen and everything in absolutely immaculate condition before this. What are my options?
I figure I can't send it to samsung, since I bought it off ebay, and obviously it's not a domestic galaxy note 2.
I'm thinking self repair is a no go, unless it's very easy and doesn't require a lot of tools because I am not handy at all with those types of things. I was thinking of taking it to a local repair shop that I found online, but I don't know how much it's gonna cost...and if I do take it there, if I should buy the parts I need beforehand so they don't overcharge me on those.
Any thoughts?
Anyone? Someone?
I wouldn't even think of trying it yourself. I wouldn't even try it myself. Your out of luck when it comes to warranty as you bought the device second hand. Your best bet is to find a store like you have and get an estimate
If I am correct, I know you could go to Samsung and let them repair it. Just say you'll pay for it.
I changed only the glass on my 2nd s3 it cost me £15 for the glass and £20 for the heatgun. Check out youtube for tuts

Call up mobiletechvideo.com. they're located in Texas. They swap out emmc chips in Samsung phones so I would assume they can do screens too unless they can't source them.

I got my note 2 as a gift, but when I received it, the screen near the front camera was cracked out the box. So, called Samsung service centre, they say they wouldnt repair it because it was out of their warranty, and if I wanna fix it, it will cost approximately $200 dollars (converted from Indonesian Rupiah).

LG G3 - Cracked Lens after few hours out of the box

i just Bought my LG G3 Yesterday ,
it was used gently, as i appreciate the feeling of a new device in my hands like any geek,
i did not drop it ( no need to justify here )
i took my G3 to show off a friend and i asked people were in the room if anyone noticed that my phone fell in the past few minutes - one of them is working in a cellular shop and he immediately brought me the news that he already knows what happened by my response because some one who bought g3 from his store came back with the exact same crack and claim he did not drop the phone at all as well.
so i have a broken Lens, camera cant take photos right and i am Deeply disappointed By Lg as i was expecting a higher build quality,
i might be the first to report but just - wait for it ,
people will Google the problem and i am just the first to let you know.

I don't believe it. Your friends lied.

It doesn't just crack I dropped mine off a balcony 3 floors onto some rocks and it broke the screen of my F400S and some other stuff, but the lens was fine. Hence why I have a D850 but lenses don't just crack.

I just had the same thing happen to mine. Not sure how or why it happened but it did. It was in my hot car turned off for an hour or so and then when I got home ours later, I noticed it. It has never been dropped or hit.
i think someone hijacked your phone... lol friends are friends...
Sent from from my LG-D855
It is a very, very small chance that it happened by itself - BUT if the glass was fitted in the phone, and was made with too high tension; it COULD technically brake "on its own". However, very rare for this to happen...
I just tried pressing my lens with my thumb, with quite a lot of pressure - didnt do anything
Anyone know where I can get a replacement lense or where to be looking for them when they come available? Talked to LG and they said they could repair but it would take 2 weeks and they could not tell me what it would cost. I can use my camera because my glass is completely gone over the camera, I would just like to get something over it to keep dust out.

I just bought an LCD separator machine send it to me I need practice lol. I seen someone else say the sent there's into lg and cost $150 to fix. You could always get a square trade warranty and go that route

If I could just find a thin 1/2 inch diameter piece of glass, I could fix it myself. Problem is finding the glass. Would not be hard at all to fix and like I said my camera works perfectly fine.
I just had the exact same thing happen. Phone was fine last night. Set it on night stand before bed. Showered and got ready in the morning. No drops. Got in the car in the morning and touched something jaggedy when I was stopped at a light. Weiiiird. Looks exactly like OP's pic. Luckily I paid for insurance since it's included in T-Mobile's jump program, so hopefully they'll swap it out.
It is one of the areas of the phone which get hotter from use, but I find that an unlikely factor in causing that problem.

Yeah, I'm really at a loss. I kept it in the bathroom as I showered, but it doesn't get that hot/humid...not enough that one would think it'd make a substantial difference.
Hate to say it, but my lens just cracked as well about an hour ago. I went to take the phone off my desk, and it kinda slipped from my fingers. The phone never made it completely off the desk. The two bottom corners were still touching, and the top half maybe a few cm off. Nothing I would ever consider a drop. When I flipped the phone around, to my surprise the lens was cracked. I don't know what to say? Any other phone I've owned in the past this wouldn't have happened to it in this very same situation.

Yeah, man. My old HTC M7...I always run skinless, treat my phones like dirt. Dropped it maybe three times onto concrete from waist height, nothing. So this is pretty gnarly.
Update on T-Mobile, they basically said that they'd take it back under warranty IF it's a manufacturer's defect. But because it's physical damage, they'll probably flag it as user error and charge me for it. I'm claiming manufacturer's defect because I swear this happened spontaneously without a drop whatsoever. So now I basically have to call LG directly, and I'd probably be up for a fight. If anyone here has experience or advice it'd be greatly appreciated.
Same Issue
Hey, I had the same issue with the AT&T version, ended up having to send it back along with my powermat (since I assumed that might have caused the crack). They repaired it without charge since they determined that it was indeed a manufacture defect. So if you have something similar it is probably a manufacture defect, and hopefully they will make a note of this soon.

I just looked at my phone last night and I have the same issue. I'm on att and I'm going to call them today to see if they will repair it for me. I'm a bit upset honestly. The camera world buy the broken glass distorts the pictures and makes them look foggy. Julz05 who did you send it back to? LG or AT&T?
No matter what, I can never stay away from android for long.

I sent it back to LG. I called the LG service number and explained the problem, they issue a RA# and you have to send it to their warehouse. Took them almost 2 weeks to fix the phone, and they are just mailing it back now
I wanted to come back and post an update for my circumstance just in case any in the future needs to do the same.
Unfortunately I couldn't send my unit back to att or lg because my water damage sticker had been tripped. I had my phone in my pocket and I went on a ride in an amusement park and didn't realize we want under waterfalls! Needless to say I got soaked and water seeped into the phone but after sticking it in rice overnight I was lucky enough to not have water damage besides the tripped sensor. I went on a search and found a seller on eBay selling the top piece which includes the camera lens cover, power/volume rocker. It cost $38 plus $6 shipping and took about a week to get to me. To replace it was fairly easy. Removed 7 screws and unsnapped the old part and then applied the new piece.
One thing to note: the original piece States 850 in various areas and the new piece States 855. However it is the same exact part and for $44 I replaced itself myself without having to be without my phone. Here are some pictures :

Just found this thread after my UK D855 did exactly the same, I've had it several months. found Replacement parts on ebay
Exact Same Problem
Hi - today I found the exact same fault in my phone. Like other posts here, I did not drop it or get any impact on the phone.
I am in New Zealand and am really disappointed in what I thought was otherwise a great phone. I now have to waste my time trying to establish whether I have any cover for this problem and also realise that it looks like impact damage and technicians will claim it was my fault.
I think this is a manufacturing fault and reading here confirms that something is very wrong here.
Thanks.

Pixel bit the dust.

so i was at the lake today, had the pixel in my pocket, and without even thinking, swam straight into the middle of the lake to get into my buddies side by side.
I had pulled out my phone, realized it wasnt responding (screen was still on) then after me trying to unlock it, it randomly shut off. came back on with a ram dump message, then went off and stayed of for 5 hours. Finally got it to come back on, it kept restarting, i assume the water made the adhesive fail because the glass started lifting away from the chassis (no it wasnt the battery). And now its completely done, just an occasional white flash on half the screen.
luckily i bought the protection plan from google (through assurant) when i bought the device, so im getting that worked out now.
its about time i got a new device anyways. my speaker would always quit working, the back glass was cracked, the volume buttons didnt work half the time, etc. I used this phone like no pixel should be used , haha.
i decided to order a sim tray for one of my 5x's. and figured ill just use it on work or fun days, and switch to my pixel on casual and nicer/professional days.
i know, i know, lots of typing and reading right? well i mainly wanted to ask if anyone had experiences replacing there device through insurance, and how it went. did you get a refurbished device? same color? the rep put alot of emphasis on "it may be new or it may be refurbished, and the color may not be the same"

I personally have never had a device replaced through Google or the device manufacturer, but for those people who had their Nexus 6P's replaced through Google got refurbished devices, random colour and sometimes even a higher storage option than the device they turned in.
Doubtful you'll get a blue, even though it's the nicest looking, but they'll probably send a random coloured one, but hopefully not a VZW variant since that has the un-unlockable bootloader.

I fell in a lake on july 4th with phone in my pocket.
Worked a little random screen movements(water under the screen)
Next day, wouldnt take a charge.
Chatted with google support, i have no insurance on teh phone.
they directed me to an approved repair shop in my town.
Took it in.
$54 they cleaned it out and dried up the water still in my phone 7 days later as I was on vacation and the Rice did nothing.
Phone works good as new.
Shop said if the corrosion was bad enough they would replace other parts, but fresh water isnt as bad as salt so I was fine.
Phone has been working like a champ since.
Keep it off so you dont induce any shorts and take it somewhere.
Bought a White Pixel XL from Best Buy (I wanted Black but they were sold out and I was in a hurry) and got a protection plan on it. My phone started exhibiting behavior indicative of a factory defect. Best Buy wanted $200 to replace. The protection plan was a colossal waste of money. Luckily I paid monthly for the protection instead of a lump sum up front. Anyways, I went to Google instead, who offered to replace it for free. Sent them my Pixel XL and got a Black Pixel XL in return. So it's possible they'll send you a different color, I suppose. The phone was new in box, not a refurb. Pretty happy.

General Fold 3 after year usage protective layer pulled it self out, and warranty experience

I am pasting what i just have posted on Facebook.
So this is a known problem with fold 3 worldwide.
We are paying INR 1.5 LAKH for a phone which can survive only a year maximum. If someone's warranty is over so is the money invested on phone.
Now people with phone's warranty left like me - do these people have time to backup, reset, and restore all official files, apps and data? Which anyhow won't be restored like the orignal phone. Time to visit service center leaving their important work, just because samsung sold us an expensive garbage device.
Anyhow As my phone was still in warranty, after many calls and coordinations company changed the inner display in 5 days and with a new defect this time. Front display the outer one popping out of frame. Service center asked me to leave the device so they'll fix it, so they started playing with my device to fix the issue. After hit and miss they called me to pickup the device, as per them it's perfectly fine. I visited and issue was still there now they want me to belive that this light which i can see between display and bezel is perfectly fine. Basically after spending 1.5 lakh inr, samsung wants us to accept the device the way they
Can fix at there best. Sorry Samsung I won't accept the phone like this and its lying in your service center. All this time what i have lost? Fuel for driving towards service center, my official hours, my peace of mind, and trust in samsung. I have a flight tomorrow and have to buy a new phone just for this trip.
People reading this if u have ever got ur device repaired from Samsung do look for the light coming between display and bezel, i am saying this because at service center they showed me more already repaired devices and almost every device had same problem.
Plenty of people have Fold 3s that are just fine after just over a year now. Put a case on your phone and you won't see whatever you are trying to show in the pic, which is not clear, but looks like the screen.
if my device breaks within a year, samsung WILL fix it, if they dont, it goes back to amazon for a refund.
who's bothered by this.
I'm not.
