Arc S stuck on Legacy Xperia boot logo - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, so my Xperia Z's screen broke and the touch is unresponsive, so I took out my old Arc S out of the box and decided to boot it up, apparently I had gotten a new phone because this one had a booting problem.
Things I know:
It's been rooted, bootloader is unlocked, current ROM is Legacy Xperia, can't go into CWM recovery, connecting phone to PC and trying to flash new kernel won't work because flashtool doesn't recognize the device.
In device manager the phone comes up as an unknown device, downloaded the drivers from Sony's site, no luck, get error message saying "this file is not compatible with your version of Windows" or something.
I'm on W10 64bit.
So basically I'm kinda stuck, tried Google and other forums and nothing, I can't seem to get anywhere.
Could you guys help me out?
EDIT: Tried installing Android Studio, launching cmd from /appdata/roaming/android/sdk/platform-tools but when I enter the command line it says "waiting for device".
So I'm thinking this has to do with my PC not detecting my phone in fastboot mode or anyother mode.

This seems like a corrupted /system partition. First off, try another cable. Your current one might not be working (happened to me, kept reporting that it "did not recognize the device"). If that does not work, let's start with the basic troubleshooting steps. Does your phone boot info fastboot (turn off your phone, disconnect USB cable, hold menu button, reconnect USB while holding)? If it does, run "fastboot erase system" (I'm assuming you have the fastboot drivers installed and fastboot.exe in the working directory), and try booting into the recovery.
If not, let's try flashmode (turn off phone, disconnect USB, hold back button, reconnect while holding). If that works, just start up Flashtool (Download), wait for it to do its thing (sync), download the latest 4.1.B.0.587 ICS .ftf file from here. Once done, exit Flashtool, and go to the "drivers" folder. Install the flashmode drivers. Go back to Flashtool now.
In Flashtool, click the flash icon in the top-right of the program, and on the top you will find the working directory. Click the button on the right to it and select the directory where you downloaded the .ftf file. A new entry will show up in the menu on the left side. Click on it. Flashtool will prepare the file for flashing and instruct you how to connect your phone in flashmode. Be patient, this process may take a while. Once done (Flashtool will tell you), disconnect the phone, take the battery out for 5 seconds and put it back in, and then boot up the phone. The "SONY" logo should show up, followed by the "XPERIA" logo.
Set your phone up, and have fun flashing!
P.S. If you have any problems with your PC not recognizing your device while in USB Debugging (ADB says no devices), this worked for me.

Hey man thank you so much for replying to the thread.
So I feel like a dumbass, multiple times I've read about changing cables, guess what, that's all it took.
So basically I changed the cable and instead of "unrecognized device" I got "S1 fastboot device", after that I installed the adb drivers for the Xperia Arc and voilà, it recognized as an adb device.
Onto platform-tools folder, cmd, flashed the kernel for Cyanogen 10, finally got into recovery and now after a full system wipe I'm flashing CM.
I'll let you know how it turns out.
Thanks a bunch!

[Q] Can't boot flashmode or flashboot mode

Phone with official rom , never isntalled CWM or any unofficial stuff. It boots ok to standard mode but not any other mode. I have tried in two different pcs with Windows XP and Windows 8. Phone doesn't even seem to try to boot in those modes, is not like the PC isn't detecting it.
I'm totally lost on how to recover the flashmode functionality to be able to unlck bootloader and install CM, any help will be welcome.

You must be doing something wrong.
Flashmode - turn the phone off, connect USB cable to PC, hold down Back button, connect USB cable to the phone. Green LED should light up, then phone is in flashmode.
Fastboot mode - turn the phone off, connect USB cable to PC, hold down Menu/Option button, connect USB cable to the phone. Blue LED should light up, then phone is in fastboot mode.
Nah, it didn't worked. I got it to still a recovery with X-parts app. Booted to the recovery, wiped everything, did a factory restore, since that moment it won't boot at all, Sony logo and it won't power off without taking off the battery. Of course, still won't enter flashmode or flashboot.

Did you install the drivers for it? If you want to use either flashtool or fastboot you need to install these programs along with the drivers. Also, ignore the prompt by Sony PC Companion when prompted. If you can boot into ROM, check that USB debugging is enabled.

Drivers installed, USB debugging enabled, tried on two diferent computers.
I have some experience not only in flashing roms but also in rom cooking, kernel compilation, etc... and after all day I couldn't get it to go to flashmode. My girlfriend -she is the owner of the phone- remembered me we already have problems being unabled to access flasmode when she bought the phone and wanted to update it with sony software, so I finally took it to the shop so they can send it to repair service.
Thanks guys for your prompt replies.

[Q] Xperia Ion Lt28At Bootloop

Hello all.
I hate to post this, but I cannot find an answer anywhere. I've scoured the web for 4 days now, and cannot find an answer.
I have an Lt28at that had Cwm on it. I flashed a rom (which I later found out was a Jellybean rom) and needless to say, I'm in a bootloop.
I power on my phone, it displays the Sony logo, black screen, reboots back to the Sony logo, and so on. Cwm is gone, I've tried powering on while holding back, while holding Volume Down, while holding Volume Up, and even trying Cwm again.
I've read where people talk about flashmode, but I can't seem to get access to this if the Lt28at has it.
There seems to be no working method for me and I think I may have a paperweight.
If anyone happens to know what to do, I'm all ears.
Thanks!
~Preston556
I'm having the exact problem as you with the same phone. The thing is even when you hard reset the phone, when it starts charging again, eventually will start boot looping again and its impossible to put the ION in flashmode that way.
Can you take apart your phone and disconnect the battery from the mainboard? I just bought the tools for that I'm and waiting for them to ship. I don't think I'll have any luck for what I said before though.
What might actually works is charge the battery outside the phone (A ultra pain) and then use SEUS to recover the phone. I have not tried to see if SEUS recognizes my phone when it's boot looping. I will install Windows XP on a spare partition and try that out.
Will subscribe this thread, please help us people!
Try This
Dude,
I have bootlooped loads of phones in my time and its easy to sort out.
How to fastboot flash boot img
1) Download from XDA minimal fastboot and ADB drivers – from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42407269
2) Install and run as admistrator – this will open a command window
3) Connect phone in fastboot mode, turn off the device, hold volume up and then connect your usb cable, the phone should he be in fastboot mode
4) In the command window enter the following – fastboot devices – this will show if your phone is connect by returning something like the image attached
5) Now you need to extract the boot img file from the rom you want to install, do this using winzip which can be downloaded from the internet.
6) You then need to open the location of your fastboot file and paste in the boot img file
7) Enter the following command into the command window – fastboot flash boot boot.img
8) Then use the command – fastboot reboot
9) Your phone should now boot up correctly with no error.
Our bootloaders are blocked thanks to AT&T, so that will be impossible! I cant even enter in fastboot mode
I see,
This is going to be tricky then, do either of you have a working recovery?
Is the phone recognised when connected via USB?
Sent from my Xperia S, made awesome by XDA.
It seems like no, just boot loops displaying the sony logo and thats all!
Hmmm,
ok this is the only other thing I got but its pretty hardcore.
First download flashtool and the latest Tft for your phone.
and the process goes like this !
1.open flashtool !*
2.turn off your phone and remove the battery !
3.click on the flash button on the flashtool.
4. at MODE SELECT --- select FLASHMODE --- click OK*
5. FIRMWARE SELECTION --- select SOURCE FOLDER ----- [....] will help u browse to the file location select it then !
6. WIPE ---check both WIPE DATA and WIPE CACHE
7. the click OK
8. After few sec it will ask for usb connection so PUT YOUR BATTERY BACK AND CONNECT YOUR PHONE TO COMPUTER BY PRESSING VOLUME DOWN BUTTON ON THE RIGHT !
9. wait till the process is over
10. unplug your device and wait it will take some time to boot up don't worry just stay calm*
Your phone should then be fully working

Thanks alot for your help! I'm waiting for my tools to ship, i hope to get them by monday and do that, but unplugging the battery isn't the same as hard reseting the device?

[Q] Phone stuck in bootloop, can't flashboot anything. Suggestions?

Ahh my phone has had quite the past week on this CM12 Android 5.0 ROM...
I was just listening to music and checking social media on my phone when bam, it turns off.
I held the power button and it didn't turn on the first few times.
Then finally, it boots, but it won't get past the splash screen.
It's stuck in a bootloop and I can't get into the recovery. I can't factory reset it either.
I tried to go to fastboot and flash the recovery again, but my computer doesn't recognize my phone.
I have adb, fastboot, and all of the correct drivers installed and it won't do anything.
I tried flashing with "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" but it just said "<waiting for device>" even though my phone was connected and in fastboot mode.
I don't know what to do. I can't boot it, I can't get into recovery, I can't factory reset it, and I can't fastboot anything.
What should I do? Please I am open to ANY suggestions at this point. I can't deal with this constantly not having a phone crap.
Thanks, it'll be much appreciated.
Extra Info:
Device manager lists my phone as this: "Unknown USB Device (Device Failed Enumeration)"
Every time I go into fastboot, my computer displays this message: "USB device not recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it"

Make sure you aren't connected via usb to your computer when you attempt to force a reboot. It should be vol up and power until it reboots and then switch to vol down to enter hboot.

I can get into hboot and all that just fine. The phone won't boot, and I can't get into recovery is my problem. Oh and the fact that the computer doesn't recognize my phone in fastboot
Update: I just whipped out a really old computer running Windows XP and I installed the platform-tools and HTC One drivers on it. I hooked the phone up to the computer, and the drivers worked. I flashed TWRP and it flashed successfully according to fastboot, but it won't go into recovery still. What should I do now? I know I can RUU somehow (I'm not really sure how though), but I want to try and avoid that, if possible. Any suggestions? Thanks people!
EDIT: NVM it actually booted! What a success! This stuff is crazy!

[Q] I have accidentally wiped system with TWRP and now the phone won't boot... :(

Hi All,
My phone was shutting itself down yesterday for no reason, so I boot into TWRP, thinking I should do something there, maybe restore to a previous backup, or wipe cache, etc...
I was in a hurry to go to the game (GO WARRIORS!), so I was just trying to get the phone ready for the game...
I tried the "Regular" wipe, and when it didn't work, I went into advanced wipe, and chose system wipe and REBOOT the phone (BAD IDEA!)....
so now my phone won't go past the SONY logo, because there is no system to boot into
What can be done here? Flashtool won't recognize my phone, and kept telling me I need to install the correct driver, and I can't boot into recovery.
Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!
Try connecting your phone to Sony PC companion it has all the device drivers. It may not recognize your phone when you connect it but proceed to the update/renew tab and follow the on screen prompts.
Nope ,won't connect, it turns on for like 1 second when the cable is plugged in... then it turns off again
is there any other way?
Connect it with fastboot.
To do this, hold the volume up button while connecting it with your PC, the LED will go blue.
Now you can either flash a rom via flashtool, repair it with PC Companion, or emma.
But since you have TWIRP, I would guess PC companion won't help you. You will likely also whipe all your backups stored on the phone by doing this, unless they're on the SD card, but that's better than having no phone at all.

1) install flash tool by androxyde
2) open the flash tool.
3) click thunder button and select flashmode.
4) connect your phone via usb (if message: device status no found [is ok])
5) press reset button 30 seconds( 1 vibrate and again 3-4 vibrates)
6) and now your phone is connected via flashmode.
7) Download original rom and put in any folder. [PM ME IF NOT HAVE ORIGINAL ROM .ftf]
8) Select "any" folder in source folder firmware selector
8) Press flash and wait.

If you use Windows 8, you must disable driver signature before installing flashtool, for this, hold shift key while restart your computer, enter in the proper settings and choose "disable signature driver", after this, install flashtool, then go to its folder and find folder driver and install the Xperia Z family driver. After these processes your phone will be recognized by flashtool

Help me is my phone is a brick?

Hi guys, I was gonna install a custom rom for the first time and yeah, everything didn't go to plan.
While the install was going on the phone shut down and now IM stuck seeing the Sony logo on my screen, (got a sony z1 compact).
I've tried all possible combinations to get it intro twrp or just the recovery but no success.
When I plug it intro my computer I get a sound but I can't connect in any way, not even adb can reconcile it with "adb devices".
Am I screwed?
How i fixed it
So this describes my problem: my phone was completely black after a bad rom install and the only thing I was able to do with the phone was to restart it using power button and volume up.
It wasn't detected in my computer but it was detected in flashtools, but when I tried to install the original firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62429564&postcount=5 using flashtools I got errors.
Why? My flashtool was to new and I had to dowload version 0.9.18.6 and then it was smooth as butter! hope that helped

Boot loader unlocked? Do you have fastboot on PC?
yes i got bootloader unlocked on the device and fastboot on my pc
quick update: sony companion app can detect my phone (only when turned off) but it cant interact with the phone tho.
so what would be the next logical steep to take?
i think my os i totaly deleted so there is no use trying to repair it, i need to accses the recovery mode somehow.
iv tryed doing that with fastboot (adb) (latest version) but it cant even detect the device.
-adb devices
-list of devices attaced
Is there any other way to accses recovery mode? or flash the phone w/o recovery mode (cant access phone files).
heard somthing about odin?

Assuming you have phone drivers:
1 - download a custom ROM from this forum, (e.g. - crdroid)
2 - copy the boot.IMG file from the zip to whatever directory on your PC fastboot is in
3 - download twrp recovery IMG file, move it to fastboot directory
4 - hold vol up, and connect phone until you see blue LED
5 - open command prompt, cd /(wherever fastboot is)
6 - type, fastboot flash boot boot.img
7 - type, fastboot flash recovery (name of recovery).IMG
8 - unplug phone, power on, volume up when you see LED to enter recovery.
(You'll need a ROM file somewhere on your phone or SD card.)
Optionally, if you have Flashtool or Emma installed, and your phone drivers, you can open the program and connect in flash mode, ( power off hold vol down), and see if it's recognized.
Hope that helps.
Which twrp recovery IMG file shod I dowload?
Found this webpage "twrp .me/Devices" but z1 compact isn't listed.
Tried the one listed as just z and it worked (stage 6,7) and I didn't encounter the same "stuck at sonylogo" this time, just darkness when I tried to start.
I feel like a complete noob for asking this but I found the drivers for the phone here
developer.sonymobile .com/downloads/drivers/xperia-z1-compact-driver/
and iv dowloaded them but how do I install them? Tried using device manager but didn't work, tho before I ****ed up my phone I could connect like nothing so the driver shod be ok?

If fastboot is working, you're probably fine. Recovery for Z probably won't work, try this- https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1niPALD2vPeYnU4ZUtKYklZUFNwVWVQcnpUeHB1dGppd2pj/view?usp=sharing - Make sure to type commands properly, and make sure you have a ROM zip available. Once you flash boot and recovery, unplug phone, power on, and when you see LED, press vol up a couple times. You should be in recovery and you can flash ROM.
(Let me know if there's trouble with the link, I'll figure it out. The file's too big to attach)
Hi again! First of your an angel for helping me with this!
This is what iv done: imgur com/3xDHfKt (cant post links yet -.-)
And now the screen is just black instead of the Sony logo, flashtool can detect the phone and iv tried to install the original firmware (pretty sure iv done that correct), didn't really do anything tho.
If I try to start the phone it blinks red twice and then nothing, the computer still can't detect my phone as a device in my devices and removable storages.
What's the next logical steep? Feels like IM out in deep water :S
So just to clarify if someone else is reading this:
Phone with no rom installed at all, screen total black, can connect to the computer with fastboot, flashboot but not thought devices with removable storages.
I would have a try with Flashtool if I were you
So iv tried to learn how flashtools work and it seems pretty basic BUT its says I need a scatter file which no rom the iv dowloaded yet has :S
I did watch a couple of youtube guides on flashtools and the roms that they used to flash look nothing like mine (I dowloaded Cm for z1 compact)
And another problem is that the phone disconnects the usb connection and then reconnects exacly every 60 seconds and it might do that while ill flash the phone using flashtools.
What kind of results shall I expect if I correctly flash my phone with Cm? A fully working os with Google apps or just the os or just an access to recovery?

So iv tried to learn how flashtools work and it seems pretty basic BUT its says I need a scatter file which no rom the iv dowloaded yet has :S
I did watch a couple of youtube guides on flashtools and the roms that they used to flash look nothing like mine (I dowloaded Cm for z1 compact)

If you want to try Flashtool...
-make sure you have a good ftf in 'firmwares', (i posted a good one here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62429564&postcount=5 - but it's not rooted. Use a prf if you want).
-make sure you have drivers installed
1. Open Flashtool with device disconnected, wait for it to be ready
2. click 'flash' key, (top left), then check 'flash mode'
3. select chosen ftf, then click 'flash'
4. wait for 'preparing files...', takes a few minutes, then you see a new screen pop up with a diagram
5. with phone off, hold vol down while plugging it in to computer. Let go of vol down when you see Flashtool start working.
Either that will work, or you'll get an error message.
I also just remembered reading something about how you should not use newest version unless you're using certain phones. I've been using 0.9.18.6 for Z1c, and it works fine.

As far as CM being a good ROM, for the most part, I'd say CM-based Roms are certainly better. The only area I've seen stock Roms excel is in battery life, and some custom Roms are catching up there too, (like Euphoria 5.1, and Oregon69's MIUI port). CM interface, or AOSP, is far better than Sony's, and I personally don't like all of the fluff 'social' apps in Sony Roms. Also much better themes with CM.

I believe that is the message that goes along with what I was saying about the FT version. Which version are you using? Look at FT homepage. Also, double check 'unknown sources', and 'USB debugging' - (oh, never mind, I forgot you can't boot).
