What is CAF?
CAF stands for Code Aurora Forum. Qualcomm releases stock AOSP android with optimisations for their chipsets periodically on CAF.
Based off latest Qualcomm sources from tag LA.UM.5.8.r1-00400-8x98.0 (msm 8998).

Changelog:
* OSS Camera HAL (CAF tag LA.BF.1.1.3_rb1.15)
* Native Video recording without Hack (More details in below para)
* Dirac Sound
* Rootless Substratum support
* Tons of bug fixes
A note on video recording:
In android nougat, google split up mediaserver into several components to enhance security since the discovery of stagefright security bugs. As a result, the video recording and encoding, which were done on same process are now done on seperate process. So, this required changes to camera HAL. Since most of the devices do not have camera HAL sources, so they had no way but to revert android's security measures to make video recording work (hence the video recording hack was introduced).
As i said earlier, I didnt wanted to revert the security steps taken by google so i decided to take up another project here.
So now, i'd like to announce that I have successfully prepared open source camera HAL.
Yes, you read it right.. open source camera HAL for our very own cancro.
Since now we have open source camera, I have upgraded the HAL to support the new recording method introduced in android nougat (credits to @ashwin007 for his backport commits). This means, no security hack has been used in this ROM.
And as an added benefit, now we have more options and ways to fine tune our camera due to OSS.
Test as much features of camera as u can. Feedback is welcome.

Review of ROM and screenshots
The ROM is really smooth and has really nice animations! No bugs as of now except the ones mentioned above. Overall great ROM! Do try!
P.S. Please don't complain like a noob and abuse the dev if you encounter a problem. The joke's on you.

Yet another reserved.

Been using this ROM on my MI 4 for past 12 hours and here are my findings
There are no groundbreaking bugs as is and it can definitely be used as a daily driver.
As mentioned by the OP, video recording does not work but if you download a custom camera app from play store (I tried Footrej).. It seems to work properly. I haven't tried with other apps though. But the camera is still horrible. It is not able to focus properly and there's also a lot of noise.
Clock app FC can be fixed by downloading the Clock app by Google from Play Store and disabling the system one as both are exactly the same but there won't be any FCs in the Play Store one
Performance wise it's pretty decent, though it does hang sometimes here and there. But considering this is literally the first ROM for Nougat for cancro, it's excellent! (I wish there was a x.75 speed for animations *sigh*)
Battery life is also okay-ish. I won't say it's the best but it's not terrible either.
As for other stuff, there is a lot of delay when waking up device through dt2w or s2w. You might wanna look into that. And as already recognized by the OP, the backlight is not working though I hadn't really noticed it before others pointed it out.
P.S. Suggestions in Settings are damn annoying! Is there any way to disable them?

AOSP don't have theme engine built in, it's pure vanilla.
if you want you can install layers (don't complain if you face bugs since the rom is in testing)-

Hi guys, this is stock Android, also known as the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).
Welcome to the cleanest rom of them all. This project is a collaboration with @updateing and a continuation of his 7.0 builds.
Our goal is to provide the most solid taste of Nougat we can possibly give you. We may run into problems that we will not be able to fix because this is AOSP with necessary changes to build/boot the rom.
Current Known Bugs:
- Your recovery might be replaced with stock recovery (just reflash your recovery)
Current Fixed Bugs:
- Hardware buttons light up
- AUX problems have been fixed
- Tethering issues have been fixed

Notes on the sources:
local manifest
- Some fixes are really "dirty" (as I'm not able to find a proper way)...
- Some JNIs fail to build (lots of C++ symbols no found). You may try linking C++ libs dynamically (c++_static -> c++_shared) to avoid this. See 20160828 patches, packages/inputmethods/LatinIME for example.
- Some apps require android-8 ndk, but the earliest version in the tree is android-9. A symlink will do (or you can change the Android.mk in app) but I'm not really sure this will not introduce any bug.
- Android N split mediaserver into multiple processes to improve security, such as cameraserver, mediacodec, etc. But camera blobs and old HALs were not designed like this. They assume they run in the same process, thus a buffer created by blobs are being used everywhere, which will cause illegal memory access under Android N. I reverted lots of patches about this, forcing camera and codec services to run in the mediaserver process as before - security compromised with functionality, again.
Tnx ;D

Does flashing root save the recovery? Thanks for this build for our old bacon.
Everybody just delete recovery from boot in system after flashing and before booting up if you're recovery is wiped.

Ultimate credit goes to all the folks at the Ground Zero ROMS Team for the awesome base for which this ROM is made possible. They've done a great job of crafting a fantastic set of code.
I also have to thanks these two folks for helping me find my way through various problems along the way:
@StoneTrapper
@pappaschlumpf
Without these folks helping out, this ROM would likely never have been built. I owe these guys a tremendous debt of gratitude. Feel free to thank them for me
Also huge props to:
@Charles_l for his work on the effectively simple CameraNX MOD for great images.

No Second Space yet. I looked into it a little bit just to see what that might involve, and there are at least 3 separate apk files for that feature, and I have no idea if frameworks needs additional code to support it. Maybe kinda complicated to implement.

I have tried almost all roms on XDA for Mi Note 2 and in my poor opinion this porting of Tesla rom is great. No real life bugs, double tap to wake working, good volumes and it's very fast with excellent battery life installing Psychedelic kernel. The included camera app it's not the best but installing Camera Nx V7.2 with HDR+ or Miui camera MOD 1.5 pictures are definetly good.
Many thanks Hondajohn88 for your great job, I hope you won't stop to develop this rom

This is an old rom that required an old firmware to work. Try newer 7.1's like SlimRom. You will 100% enjoy it more
Thanks for you recommendation, but the solution is not install another rom, because Tesla N Rom is perfect for my and it's the only rom 7.1.2 AOSP that incluyes double tap screen for wake up (like Miui). For this reason, i would,t resolve the problem with de headphones.

Support:
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our website. Carbon FAQ
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
4) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.

The rom works well except for selinux being enforcing and blocking the functionality of many apps such as Magisk(crashes when checking su settings) and Adaway.
Camera is still not as good as stock...

SELinux enforcing does NOT cause your issues. Magisk works fine on my end, no crashes. I haven't tested adaway, but root apps should work without issues, even with SELinux enforcing.
No custom ROM camera will ever be as good as stock. If you would have done your research, you'd know the stock camera is as good as it is because of Sony's post processing, which you lose when you unlock your bootloader. Don't expect any custom ROM with that quality.

Might be available through settings>security>gear icon
XenonHD likes to keep things neat and clean. For instance, quick setting configurations are available through the panel itself when the editor is brought up.
Hi @AnierinB,
Good to see another favourite ROM brought to our device, will try it out during the weekend and share feedback.
Thank you.

That doesn't mean those are fixed yet, no. It just means what I've stated here in my last comment about gaining official support, signed builds and ota updates. They're experimental builds with some added perks.
Again, this wouldn't be possible without @fagyi for his trees and @holofractal (Older bro) for constantly letting me compile for pme and ether on his server.

OH. I'm sorry man. I thought I read one of his(Fagyi's) posts that said the only way most roms would let you have official support would be if SELinux had enforcing fixed. I must of been reading that from something else maybe anyway. Again I apologize.

No need for the apology and I understand where you're coming from. Lineage OS has extremely high standards for official support granted selinux enforcing makes you're device a lot more secure than permissive. Ideally I'm sure people would want me to release official with SELinux in enforcing but as I said, these are extremental builds.
Here take a look:
https://github.com/LineageOS/charter/blob/master/device-support-requirements.md
Soon as you drop the next build I will be definitely check'in 'er out. Thanks man.

awesome job man!
After 2 days of testing here is my feed back
Battery : Good ( Better than Leedroid and official oreo. I get around 4 hrs SOT with 15-16 hrs of stand by)
Camera : Stock camera app is average. Gc cam port of pixel 3 works fine you can increase saturation level and picture will be great. Portrait mode works fine
Heating : Yes but much less than official oreo
Signals and call quality : Much better than leedroid and official oreo. On leedroid and official oreo siganl reception was just pathetic and inside basements etc it would go for emergency calls. I am using gsm auto in network setting. Since i am on Sprint Unlocked device 4G Lte doesn't work and i get only H plus. I tried erasing modemst fix which is posted in some other thread but did not wok, may be because of S-on i am unable to erase modem st. If somebody posts how to fix it with S 0n i would really appreciate it.
Automatic screen brightness is not working as it should, sometime it'll go all the way up up in low light and outdoors it'll stuck at lower level despite being in sun light
After 2 days i have started experiencing slight slutter and lag
Overall a good , beautiful and customisable rom

I don't think so
Manolo's build is already good, other than dt2w isn't working but can be fixed with flashing other kernel.
Question is, what significant differences are there?
Did or will manolo drop his PE and you aiming to replace?
Still, Good to see people still building pe roms and gapps builds.
Why???

His build has video recording broken, also his build is based on Los Device Tree and mine on Arrow Based. I have experienced roms based on Arrow device tree are smoother than the ones based on Los. Although this is my personal observation. I think he will drop PE with R releases but I have no plans for replacing him whatsoever.
I was busy with other stuff, so sorry for late reply
Note 8T
Overall feels much better than "official" release
Flashed over ResurrectionRemix with data wipe, everything seems good so far except for NFC module (greyed out in quick access menu, nowhere to be found in settings)
Is it just me and I have to do a clean flash or something with ROM? : )

Yes, I know exactly what's causing that. But unfortunately my exams are very near and there is no hotfix for this one. But will try my best to do another build with this thing fixed and will give you a smoother ui experience as compared to this one. Also november security patch is here, so I might do a build this weekend with the fixes.

Thanks for your kind and humble support . But only if it was possible. I just got into building roms and arguably this is the first rom that I compiled. I'm glad you all are liking it so far. As for eleven, either a new maintainer would step up, or the past one would improve theirs. And if none of them happen, I'm be still here to do that. We can't replace existing maintainer untill and unless he kangs stuff, else it'll be disrespectful for him/her.
I hope you understand.
Although since Android 11 is still new and in works, I'll release an EOL build with Android 10 which should fix the known issues.
the plus version when?
MichaelMay said:
I've built a few ROM's and as long as you keep your dev tree open and kernel stable going it's going to be fine. There are a lot of us that can help out with reviewing, adding and testing. I'm mainly doing C so my thing is mostly just backporting for kernel and making some new solutions.
My personal builds are based on your tree (from your github) but with a few changes that no one else will use anyway because users don't want to learn how to make a swap file on external memory or how to move caches from memory to disk when it isn't ever... ever... ever... used. A bit of that is resolved with the new PSI patches for 11 but that's for a later time.
You take care and trust me, I am nothing if not kind. My main concern originally with the PE dev was that he/she or her family was in trouble, as many are these days. I doubt he'd be "kanging" stuff (which to the best of my understanding is including things proclaiming them as your own in your commits rather than using the actual commits as are and then adding your own commit to fix them if need be). I think that when it comes to FLOSS programming and the Github system we all use we are honest about what we're doing.

I'm sorry just because I am seeing this one too late, was too busy with my school stuff. I just did another build for EOL and if everything goes fine, will release it asap. This time we have a big changelog coming.

I am doing this on my personal server. I can't afford to build two roms at the same time. I am doing PE because that's the one which gives the vanilla feel of a Pixel Device, so in conclusion I won't be able to do PE Plus anytime soon.
Thank you! Keep working
I installed ver android 11. Thanks for your work! Keep working
very nice i have install the ferst build and now i m downloading the update thanks Keep working
Ime haid options android 11???????????????
Exfat microsd suport ???????????
