Type of screen? Glass? Scratch resistant? - Moto Z Play Questions & Answers

I've been trying to find out what kind of screen this phone has, nowhere in different sites that handle specs and motorola's own site seem to tell if its gorilla glass, or if it is even glass at all, and some other specs are not quite clear either, no site seem to have real complete info.
I have one and i can't really tell if it's glass or plastic, and certainly I don't want to do a scratch test on it, haven't found a scratch test on YT or other reviews.
I've also been looking for screen protectors/cases and haven't found anything in other than on Amazon, and it won't be sold until the end of september so I wanna know how much care I have to take before i'm able to purchase something to protect it.

"O Moto Z tem tela de 5,5 polegadas com resolução Quad HD (1.440 x 2.560 pixels). O display tem proteção Gorilla Glass 4, que promete maior resistência no caso de quedas."
"The Moto Z has 5,5" Screen, with Quad HD resolution (1.440 x 2.560 pixels). The display has Gorilla Glass 4 protection, who promises bigger resistance in case of falls"

But thats the Z not the Z Play

In the brazilian hotsite for the Z Series (here), in chat, the employee told that uses a Gorilla Glass 3, but i don't know if she's sure he's talking about.

It wont be scratch resistance like the moto z force. Because thats a feature on force only

The force is very scratch prone. It is however shatter-resistant, maybe shatter-proof.

How do you know? I can't find that info on the website.

Apparently it is Gorilla Glass 4 on both sides.
Here's where I found out.
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-Z-Play/Moto-Z-Play-glass-protection/m-p/3452148#M54

I've been trying to find out the same thing it seems everyone's avoiding it it seems like a very brittle glass I've seen a few broken ones and they just seem different and not in a good way, cheap

Did we ever get confirmation of this? The source above seems to backtrack on it being Gorilla Glass and the website makes no mention of it - although the Z site does. Any idea?

Its gorilla glass 3.

Since the camera lens has a large and protuding piece of glass over it, I'm a bit worried about getting it scratched up
Anyone seen a stick on protector (like a screen protector) that is cut exactly to fit this round glass?.
Make your own that's what I'm going to do, use old screen protectors and cut one out

Putting a screen protector on the lens will distort the pictures. You might have to get a case.

Screen protectors won't distort too much as long as it's put on clean. I've done so with my n4.
dbrand will have their skins cover the lens area.
I've read that the XtremeGuard full screen protector comes with some sort of screen protection for the back. Just wondering whether it might be the solution for us with regard to protruding lens. I am not sure if anyone has actually received the product yet to verify.
That skin looks nice!

I plan to do this also.
fyi I had a custom clear protector on the back of my nexus 4 that covered the whole thing including the camera, once in a while I'd have problems with the focusing.

Pack of 6 screen protectors for $6.95

hi guys and gals, i just purchased a pack of 6 screen protectors, shipping was free and so was express shipping the product should arrive at around the same time as my phone, some time next week :laugh: id be willing to write up a review if anyone wants it, i got my case here its from amazon canada so you might have to pay more for international shipping,i still think its a great deal till i can get a tempered glass protector for my phone
http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00K7I8Q60/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Oh man, this was not a good decision. You will ruin your screen experience... Better take one tempered glass protector for 10$! This will remain scratch-free, has a better feeling, is anti-fingerprint-coated (normally) and has nearly no color distortion. Please don't stick a sheet of plastic on your phones' gorilla glass 3 display!

There's only 1 review out for this product and says that it's not really 9H. Have your guys' tempered glass protectors arrived?

Don't worry, Nillkin always makes great tempered glass protectors. Good quality and rounded sides. Though it's much cheaper if you buy it from a Chinese seller on ebay.

Liquid Screen Protector

So I've noticed a lot of people on here are worried about glass screen protectors for this phone since it has round edges and the protector doesn't actually cover the edge. I have a "liquid" screen protector that I got for my Moto 360 a while ago but I've been too afraid to use it. The instructions it came with are very vague. Does anyone have experience with this stuff? (I've seen it used on other devices, supposedly)

So, I don't have any experiences, but I think that it have too work. As far as I know these liquid screen protecters work on all kinds oft glasses. But around the camera is maybe a slit where this liquid glass could come in, so take care
Sorry for my bad english, i'm from Germany
I also had a liquid screen protector for my previous phone. It was a bit scary and looked difficult to apply. But it was really easy. Also think that it protects better than glass screen protector, because of the finish. Front camera wasn't really a problem since it is a clear surface.

I'll give this a try
Had one of those but didn't like it.
Installed as well as that one with the edges hanging off, kept snagging it with my fingers.
Fitted well with the 2 styles of official cases (plastic and silicon) but wouldn't fit with a Spigen.
Also didn't like how the black borders on the sides took away screen real estate.
Using another style but still not enough coverage, just need 1 millimetre more and it would be perfect.

Scratches on the glass screen?

I was wondering whether anyone else has got scratches on their watch screen. I have noticed a line on my watch and am rather disappointed considering it's a sapphire screen.
I wonder whether this might be able to be replaced under warranty...?
?????, this is why even though it was really scratch resistant. It's not scratch proof. I bought a tempered glass screen protector for 7 bucks on amazon. Best investment for a watch.
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
Not a single scratch in 2 months. However, I do have a few scratches on the bezel.
Problem is: sapphire or not, there are always things that can scratch your screen. For example diamonds or other stones can easily scratch any sapphire.
There are actually sapphire polishes on the market. Though I have no idea if that's a good idea for a smartwatch.
I also havea glass screen protector, but ditched it because I thought it ruined the look a bit. And the looks were the only reason for me buying the hwatch.
It is quite a challenge to scratch the HW, as the glass lies beneeth the bezel...
As said, nothing is scratch proof of course. Certainly no warranty issue unless you can prove that the watch scratched itself...
Have it for 5 months and not a single scratch on the glass.

I am sorry but it is not glass, it is sapphire and it is pretty much scratch-proof as you need something of 9 hardness or more on the mohs scale aka diamond, corundum, tungsten carbide, titanium nitride, or some other hard material that can be found in sand or some other substrate. The scratch you are seeing is in the oleophobic coating not on the ****ing sapphire itself.....
My screen is scratched.. That too badly.. Any suggestions, what can I do?

No goriila glass, issue or not?

Have got slightly bored trying to find a mate 20 pro that is not affected by gluegate or green edges so have started to look at the view 20 as it looks very interesting.
One thing that jumped out of the specs was the lack of gorilla glass. How much of an issue is this and how otherwise sturdy is the phone? I'm equally worried about scratch resistance as well as drop/smash.
For those who have it, how are you finding it?

This phone is a must buy. Especially for the price. You get the same performance as the mate 20 Pro and a 48 mp camera. The build and design is very good too. The screen is flat meaning it doesn't go I've rthe Edge of the glass but I prefer it like this. For the screen, I just placed a glass screen protector on top of it once I got it
I do not do screen protectors or cases (live life on the edge!) This does mean though that I am always careful with my devices, I even used a pixel 3xl for a month and it was unmarked when I sold it!
I decided to take a punt and picked it up last night, will post some impressions later. It's not Gorilla glass but I would like to know what it is, I guess time will tell as to how robust it is.

I wouldn't call it thin, it is quite thick. Not sure if replacing it with a glass protector is a good idea, do they have the right holes for sensors and the camera? If you notice there is a small notch on the right side of the screen for a sensor.

I see. Well I guess I'll be buying a glass then
My plastic one came off when I was swiping right from the edge to go back ?
Honor phones are very sturdy. Before upgrading to the View 20, I had a 9 lite (pretty budget device). I owned the phone for over a year and used it intensively every single day using only the clear soft plastic case that came with the phone, and never got a so much as a scratch on it. I've been using the View 20 since the 2nd of February using the same plastic case that came in the V20 box, and don't have so much as a blemish on any part of the phone other than my fingerprints.
It's also worth noting that the V20 does come with a screen protector pre-applied to the phone, so you don't actually need to buy one.
