[LOOK FOR HELP] Resources to learn about W10M Boot Mechanism? - Windows 10 Mobile

Hey guys ,, I want to learn about W10M Boot mechanism.
How to unlock the bootloader?
W10M Boot Process
Additionally, how to dual boot a W10M device with a different operating system.
I know this isn't an easy task since W10M is very locked down OS. But there might have ways to do it.
Where can I get all those stuffs??
Plz help me. Any little pointers /suggestion will be welcome
@gus33000 @tingtongku @Wack0Distractor @Mayanktaker @Heathcliff74 @snickler and everybody other

I have no idea about this. maybe like windows? To edit bcd or use other bootloader like grub2?

1) The bootloader can be unlocked using Windows Phone Internals (search for it). It's only for specific phones, so you'll have to read through the instructions carefully
2) You're not going to be dual booting a W10M supported phone any time soon.
3) There's a lot into even breaking into this process and it will require someone who has a deeper and expert understanding of the core concepts of how UEFI booting process works to even begin to proof something out. Which means it's nothing that you can just be told and be able to do anything with.
People are already trying to do something on this front, so it's not useful to try and do something without the understanding and resources to do it.

Thanks for the reply. [emoji4] I am ready to give enough time on learning the resources. For bootloader unlocking, which thing I need to learn first?

Re-read the first sentence. For this entire thing, I'm saying that if you don't have expert knowledge at the internals, you're not going to get anything figured out. People who have this expert knowledge are already working on a solution for this. It's best to wait until they get something available instead of trying to take up this huge and crazy task.

Yes.of coursre. I am waiting for an update on both WP Internals tools from @Heathcliff74 and Retail Device Unlock tools from @Wack0Distractor. But it seems Both are busy these days and haven't have enough time to work on these tools, since @Heathcliff74 last updated his WP internals last year. Eagerly waiting for an update

No, as asking for ETAs aren't allowed on here. As I said, show patience... Bothering them and asking for an update for a project that is difficult beyond doubt, isn't useful. This isn't something that can magically be done in a day.. It's actually best if this thread is closed as it isn't serving much of a purpose.
Also, please don't contact them asking for ETAs, if that's what you're thinking of doing.

[Q] What are the Odds?

now that we have perma-root, what are the odds of getting a one click root to go along with it? although i am a HUGE phone and android junkie, i am too far gone when it comes to pushing commands and ADB and such. the one click would help alot. ha..what are the odds?

Paulobrien is updating VISIONary to include S-OFF so that it will be a "one-click" permanent root. It is said that this new version will be available on the Market sometime tomorrow.
The odds are 50/50

Honestly, in my opinion, if you are unable to manually do it, you don't need root. It's not difficult, at all. Sorry if that came across as rude, but you refer to yourself as an "Android and phone junkie". Using adb is like, kindergarten for learning about Android. Flashing an SPL/HBOOT requires you complete second grade, at least. Do you even know the risks associated?

Unforgiven, dude you are a bad-ass when it comes to this stuff, and my no means, are coming across as rude....but, for the OP and folks like myself, that realize the risk of bricking the phone if we enter the commands incorrectly, well that risk is far to high of a price to pay, when we all know that some of the folks on this and other forums are far more talented than me to put an easy "one-click" patch together.
I am a techie nerd that realizes my limitations when it comes to coding and/or debugging. Primarily due to lack of time, but that does not mean I still want to play with all the toys these devices can give us.
I know that I will eventually come back to the coding side to learn and contribute, but for right now I have to realize that I am a leech of your good graces and knowledge.
With that said, thank you for your hard work, and for sharing the knowledge with the rest of us!

[Q] ...How Do I root it?

Maybe I'm blind, but I'm searching all over the dev forum for the incredible 2, there are no official links that explain how to root the phone. Please help, thank you.
I would think that if have been searching you would have read that there is no way to do a software root. You probably would have also read that you can buy an XTC clip to achieve S=Off.
Is this just temporary or will there be a way to software s-off? I'm sorry I have been searching and reading I just don't understand I'm a noob the original incredible was easy to do cause I used unrevoked
Again, if you had been reading, you might have come across a thread that discusses the software method of S=Off.
link me please?
to answer your question... no there is no software unlock yet. It is coming, it has been verified to work and has been done to a few testers.
there is no ETA.
if you need it now, buy an xtc clip and you can unlock it immediately.
lastly, this should be in general, not development.
thanks brah

There is life beyond the message board, you might want to have a look.
I understand that this is a matter of semantics, but the I2 was rooted long ago...with software. What we're lacking is an unlock to allow root to be permanent (persistent through reboots). You can root now and gain many of the benefits (and problems) of root if you really want to without paying a dime.
Now if you want to use custom firmwares, that requires unlocking. This can be done with a piece of hardware that is available now, or a piece of software that everyone is still waiting on.
Anyone selling an XTC
Im willing to buy anyones used XTC clip for half price....anyone...anyone...

I have done some searching and have found two possible routes. One is AlpharevX (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132920&page=40) and the other is with the Rebel XTC (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156534&page=5).
The sites are http://alpharev.nl/x/beta/, and http://www.xtcclip.com/.
AlphaRev is still beta though they claim no bricks reported so far. Since it is Beta you are supposed to interactively get a Beta key from their site to activate the software. This key is generated only if it 'likes' the serial number. The latter by the looks of it is a hardware tool which loads on your sd-card. If you go the alpha route then you must manually download and install the viow version of CWM! Still waiting for Unrevoked!

[Q] Really confused!!!!

So I'd very much like to root my phone. The problem is, I don't know where to start. I've been reading on how to do it, but I see all this lingo that I don't understand. I don't know what an Hboot is, or a fast boot or an RUU, or anything like that. Those are just letters to me. Do I start with s-off or what? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yeah man. That would be greatly appreciated. But I could probably save you the trouble. I'm running 2.3.4 Gingerbread. And I guess the only way I can root it is with an xpt clip? I think that's what its called. But, if you know something I don't (VERY likely) I'd very much like the info.

I think before you do anything, you should just read this forum for a week. Try to make yourself familiar with the words and what they mean, what root does for you, and so you don't completely destroy your phone.
I felt the same way as you when I wanted to root my phone, but I read and read and read. After I did all that reading, I read some more. THEN, I was finally ready to root.
It really is a very easy process once you get going though.

It's not code.. If you want to see code, decompile an application lol. I suggest just doing to research, the tutorials are VERY straight forward. And if you don;t understand what the directions are saying, get on an IIRC chat, or wait for knipp to help you. Root isn't worth bricking your phone.

Linux is an (awesome) OS alternative to Windows or OSX. A good beginner distribution is Ubuntu 11.10. Don't get overwhelmed- it sounds like you have some research to do. We all start somewhere, and google is your friend There's a lot of helpful people here who don't mind n00b questions, so learn as much as you can, then ask people anything you still can't figure out. (myself included)
Overwhelmed is definitely the right term. As for the OS, are you referring to the computer or phone? And I appreciate the help.

Well, Linux can be run on a lot of things. I was referring to the computer OS, but Android itself is built on linux too. That's why a lot of people develop with desktop linux. Check out Ox's noob corner sticky in the general section, and read through the posts- there are a lot of terms explained.

[Q] Where does one find help or docs on a new app like the 4.2 camera

Are you saying that you know the information is not yet available? That is helpful. Otherwise saying "if it is not available then it is not available" is an unhelpful tautology.
I think that the 4.2 camera app is available on a few of the new tablets that just got announced. It is not unreasonable to ask if there is any info on usage or features.

No one cares what you want. I want a million dollars right now tax free. Is that going to happen? Hell no.
As for your "situation", you can just learn it yourself by messing around with all the options. It's not likes it's going to kill YOU if YOU do the legwork YOURSELF instead of asking us to do the work for you.

It's because of 1) your question and 2) your responses.
You're asking if anyone has a link to help about something that isn't released. When you were told there isn't such a thing yet, you sounded like a whinny little kid and said "no, I don't want to. Do it for me". How else do you think rue XDA community (who is known for not searching and asking to be spoonfed as well as dumping on said people) is going to respond?

Because you are wanting bleeding edge unreleased software. This comes at a price and that price is you are part of the first ones using it, so of course there is no documentation. It essentially is a beta, it isn't even promised to work let alone have a users guide for it yet. Maybe in a couple months someone will write a guide telling you what the buttons do.
I tried to help inform you but your general rudeness and 'whining' is making me not want to bother and apparently is having the same effect on others that are normally very helpful users here.

Have you tried it?? It's pretty self explanatory, what are your questions? Also, Google is not well known for documenting their features.
