new note 7 battery life - Verizon Note 7 Questions & Answers

Anyone got the replacement note 7 notice anything different in battery life with the upgraded fire proof battery?

i got one last night and cant tell any difference yet. it last just like my s7 edge did

it will probably take a few days for the battery to normalize after day to day usage before anyone can really report on it.

Getting poor life at moment, gsam showing deep sleep 0%. Install same apps as on old one not sure what's happening yet.

It took me a couple days before I actually got good battery life. Needs to set in, what I recommend doing is fully charge it and let it get down to in-between 1 and 5 percent before charging again. Don't do any in-between charging, at least that's what works for me.

My explodey Note 7 didn't get bad battery life at all. I couldn't complain one bit and was happy with it. This new Note 7 though... I think I got a real winner. It's less than 24 hours after switching and by this time of day I'm used to seeing the battery at about 62% give or take, but I'm at 84%. I'm sure it's placebo but I also feel this Note is just the tiny bit smoother and less laggy in the UI. Again, I had zero complaints about my first one so I suspect there's going to be sample variances across all spectrums with this.

Got rid of my voip app zoiper now got 49% cpu deep in gsam . So looks like bad apps.

Left phone on standby overnight from 100% . After 7hr 29m down to 90%. Wifi and 4g on, auto sync off and do not disturb on.
Other people have been reporting 0.5%, any suggestions?

Need a week or so. My blowy Note 7 had exceptional battery life after a bit of usage.

My replacement straight out of the box , charged to 100% and have had awesome battery life. Last night I was at 6hrs 20 mins of on screen time. And had 25% left. And my phone not 1 time got hot. I think this one is a keeper

I've been getting 3-4 hours of SOT, which is about the same as my 6P was getting. This one is a lot better than my previous one though was barely hitting 3.

I can attest to the battery not getting hot often like it used to before.... I have like 60 apps installed, and normal use before would have my note7 burning hot. Now.... Not so much! [emoji1]

This. Exactly my experience too. The replacement phone battery is a bit better (36 hours to go from 100% to 1% with moderate use, no gaming), phone doesn't seem laggy, and most important it does not get as warm as the old one did.

Got my overnight standby drain down to 0.7%/hr from 1.4% uninstalled bbc news and amazon shopping apps.

like another poster said, my first one was great but something about this new one is even better. it doesn't get hot and i can tell there's a significant difference in battery life. it's seemingly lasting much longer than the first

Now this battery life is more like it

-Wifi and Bluetooth on whole time
- Tons of texting, a lot
- Over 1 hour of phone calls on Bluetooth
- Over 3 hours of A2DP streaming
- Periods of no signal (subway)
- Screen on for 2 hours
- Google Reader and Web browsing
- Used the phone as I would normally without thinking about battery at all.
Very very happy. UPDATED with recent screenshots before I plugged it in.

Out of interest, how many times have you charged your phone (0%-100%)?
Never drained it to zero and started using it right away without charging it. Its been charged to 100 twice already. My uptime is 73 hours and that's exactly how long I've had the phone.

Honest question, how many times are you more than 12 hours from sleeping or relaxing in your house?
12 hours is more than adequate for a normal user
This is mine after a fresh wipe and no apps installed. Just thought i`d see how it did with normal use.
Here's mine; at a point the phone got itself shut down for some reason, and I couldnt get it restarted at that moment, so I left it like that, and when I could turn it back on, it was quite warm around the camera unit, and also the battery was pretty much drained - thats what you can also see on the screenshot at the "20minutes" part of t he scale. After I've removed the battery and put it back, the phone was working for quite a while again, like 12 more hours.
I'm sure auto brightness helps as it keeps screen dim but during my use it was brighter especially outdoors. My whole point is there is no secret, you should use the phone as you would like it. One thing I could have done I'm sure to improve battery life is turn off wifi and bt when they weren't in use and possibly not have as many apps running but then what's the point in having the phone?: D

I get around 11-13 hours. Not too impressed. My iPhone 4S gets 20 easily. I'm really conservative on my Nexus too because doing anything intensive (games, video recording, youtube etc) really rapes the battery. I'm guessing some of you turn off auto sync or something.

It's simple really - the more you use the phone the worse battery life is but that's because you used the phone more! I never use the phone LESS just for battery life because then you're doing yourself and the phone injustice.

So JuiceDefender works fine for you? I just read that alot of users had problems with ICS and JD. Would be great if it worked though!
Here's mine. Since I was at work all day I only got time to play Dillo Hills for about 20 mins but I've found the battery is REALLY good after flashing the Android Revolution ROM. MoDaCo causes too much drain IMHO.
Battery life isn't too bad on mine. I got mine on the 10th and I used it right out of the box. Battery life wasn't that great until I did a charge to 100%. The OTA update didn't change much for me in regards to battery. Currently at 21h uptime and I'm at 32%.

Lithium Ion cells do not get better in any way after a few charges.
In fact the capacity goes down a wee tiny little bit with each and every charge, so your first charge was the "best" one.
Stop playing around with the thing for 5 hours non stop and you will get decent runtime.
Best thing to do with a new device is to charge it up fully as soon as you can. Then run it down until you get the low battery warning. Then charge it back up.
Battery life will likely be pretty poor for the first week or so, then it will normalize.
Deep discharging (to 0%) is about the worst thing you can do to a LiIon battery, because it "hurts" it much more than several shallow discharges.
Also, like I said before, battery capacity won't in any way rise or "normalize" over the first week.
Battery life is poor the first days because you use your shiny new device all the time (i.e. more than later). It's like that for all of us.
My battery life sucked the first few days, It got better though. It really only seems to suck it down if it is hunting for a signal constantly.

You also need to try this manual battery calibration:
http://myhtcdesire.com/tutorials/how-to-improve-your-battery-life-calibration-tutorial
After I did this, saw the battery reading 99% and 98% more often rather than straight to 96% after charged.
Originally, it was suggested by HTC tech support. I did that once every six months or so ... And my battery level is now improved. Screenshots will follow in the next post.
Not bad?
Sync is off btw. And this includes using Maps 2%.
At least with my usage pattern, I am more or less satisfied.

You need to remember the only thing relating to battery life is not just the battery, it's software as well, hence calibration. After about a week or so your phone gets a "feel" for your battery and gets more battery stats, so it's more accurate with it's readings. That is a proven fact, you need to think about all things.

It is quite easy to gauge a Lithium Ion battery. 4.20 V = full. 3.60 V = empty. Your phone can read the battery precise to 0.001 V. The curve isn't linear, but it's well known what voltage relates to the exact capacity left in the battery.
There's really no room to "feel" anything there, just simple math.

I consistently get 15-18 hours of use out of mine with the extended battery.
But to the OP, if your screen is taking up 60% of your battery, it's always on, your battery is gonna die, it happens. Your battery doesn't get "better" with time. It seems that way because you aren't glued to the device 24/7.
Mine was god awful when I first got it but after a week or so it got much, much better.
I have the GSM version though.

Google need to run classes on how to read the battery consumption pages. 61% screen means that the screen used 61% of the total battery used, not that the screen was on 61% of the time.

By about the 3rd day it seemed better. But it's also difficult to gauge because the first few days you're bound to toy with it constantly.
Until there is an empirical way to gauge usage, like an amp meter attached to the phone - it's all perception imo.

You really have no idea what you're talking about. First of all, it will get better, I won't bother explaining the science behind it considering you can do your own research, but it will, also, it can't be "fixed." Just like they can't make it an 8 mega pixel camera in an OTA. You can get it much better by doing custom roms and thigns of that nature.

First off, it's hard to tell by your screenshot how good or bad your battery life is. You're burning approximately 10%/hr, but maybe you had your screen on or were surfing the internet for a portion of that time. Anything that involves data transfer will kill your battery faster.
I got my Galaxy Nexus on Wednesday, and I've had great battery from the start. I calibrated it by letting the phone's initial charge die down to zero, and then charged it all the way up to 100%, and then used the Battery Calibration tool. I drain between 2-3% hour with light use, but can obviously drain much more depending on what I'm using the phone for.
That being said, for those on this board who think an OS upgrade is going to fix the problem, I highly doubt it. I have a reasonably poor cell signal (averages around -95 dbm), but still get solid battery life. Given that we were all issued phones with the same software, if you're experiencing incredibly bad battery life, I'm going to point my finger at the hardware. It just doesn't make sense that some of us with 4.0.2 get great battery life, and others do not. You probably have either a bad battery or a bad phone. Now, I'll probably get called out for saying this, but watch all the posts that follow when the update releases, when people still have poor battery life.
This is my 3rd Android phone (Incredible, Charge, GN), and every one of these phones has had poor battery life. On average, if I'm playing around with the screen on, I'm draining upwards of 10%/hr, if not more. But if you properly calibrate the battery - which is VERY important - you should easily be able to get a full day's charge out of your phone.
There is a post on XDA about the 13 steps to proper battery calibration. Once I followed it on my last phone, my battery life went up at least 50%. You have to let the battery drain to 100%, then bump charge a number of times, then use the battery calibrator.

Try running without JuiceDefender. Constantly toggling data on and off (or wifi on and off) actually hurts battery in almost all cases.

Your results may vary, but when I used Juice Defender or Green Power on my Droid Charge, I nearly doubled the battery life. I haven't put it on my GN yet because my battery life is much better than what I had with the Charge.
No using JD or anything like that. Just the the phone do its thing. I don't even open the multitask button unless I want to switch between apps.

Gotta be a software issue with the battery.
Just this past weekend in Wash DC. Very strong 4 G market.
I had it fully charged off charger. After 7 hours without touching the phone even with google plus sign out, the battery went from 100% to 54%. It's like the phone was active a lot without me even touching it. No SMS/mms either. No emails either.
Know. I did same thing and put it on airplane mode with it 100% charged. After 7 hours on airplane mode it was at 98%.
So it's gotta be an operating system issue.
I tried it on wifi instead of 4G mode. And battery drainage was down to 72% after no use overnight.

With avg use, and counting that I do sleep 8hrs/day... I have 2 li-ion poly batteries & never tether to a wall... I generally get 24hrs, with about 10% or more remaining. I swap, read a book, until I am sleepy, go to sleep. The battery usually is about 95-97% when I wake up.

I have had the phone for a month now and have yet to kill it in under 24 hours (ok fine I got it to die in 23 hours and 36 minutes). I usually get about 1 day and 6 Hours. Of course, I am sleeping for a good portion of that... Typical screen use time is about 3 hours for me (inside that 24 hour phone use time) but I have done as much as 5 Hours of screen time. Im assuming that you could kill the phone faster if you really tried, but i have a hard time believing it would die in 8 hours unless you were doing everything you could to kill it..
ok thank you guys can i ask are you all roooted? im still on the fence about rooting this phone like i have my others. can not being rooted effect battery?

I'm rooted, running UltraLight1.5 with Perseus kernel. Rooting aside a big battery killer is the wireless network locater in Settings/Location Services. That stupid service kills battery with thousands of pointless kernel wakelocks. I used to disable Maps entirely, but that ain't needed.
I leave GPS &WIFI on all the time with screen brightness on auto, power saving turned on on the screen and cpu. 8hrs of screen on time easy...overnight at idle there's minimal eating of battery while I sleep.

Obviously heavy usage is relative. I definitely get over 24 hours worth normal use. I'm pretty much on it constantly. I would imagine if you are gaming or watching videos then your battery is going to die much quicker.

Being rooted doesn't give better battery life is just an access for to things you couldn't unlock before like admin rights.
However if you freeze a few apps you don't use and close any apps after your done with them you'll get better results.

[Q] Getting terrible battery life on Moto 360

Hey guys,
I've had my Moto 360 since Sunday evening and have been getting to grips with the device for the past few days.. I have one big problem though :/ Before buying the watch I saw EVERY review there was to see and read EVERY article there was to read to have the widest opinion about it since I would have to order it without seeing it in person. I decided to pull the trigger and buy it... It was a bit smaller and taller than I initially thought, but I like Android Wear, don't mind the lag (even though I do notice it) but the battery has shocked me a bit tbh. Everyone said that a full 12 hour day with ambient mode off is no problem and after the update it should be even better. I don't get nearly at all this batterylife. I took it off the charger today at 7:15, haven't used it as much as I wanted to at all just to see if the batterylife is acceptable and now at 4:25 ( a bit over 7 hours later) I'm at 21%. I even formated the battery prior to this( drained it completely and charged it up completely 3 times) and will do again today. I reseted the watch AND my phone yesterday so I can't tell if it helped or not. I am running software version 4.4W.1 build number KGW42R. Any ideas ? I only installed pixtocam. :crying: What are your findings with the batterylife? Thnx
Edit: added build number
Oh and two last things: 1. Have been using with my Galaxy Nexus two days and since then with my Sony Z1 and 2. the watch takes longer to charge aswell I've noticed It takes cca 1 hour and 25 minutes to get to 100%
LAST EDIT: Down 14% in an hour and about 20 minutes.
I've been getting literally about 24 hours on one charge with the minimal watch face, and no ambient light (auto dimming on) there seems to be a correlation between watch faces and battery life. A basic face gives you more life compared to a face with many dials and info. This was only achieved after the last update. Before that I was getting about 13 hours.
Sent from my SM-N900V using XDA Free mobile app
I am getting awesome battery life out of my unit. It's currently been off the charger for 19 1/2 hours and I'm at 57%. I'm also on the same build/software version as you
I get close to 30hrs with ambient off and 15 with ambient on. I'm thinking you might want to exchange for a different one. Unless its pixtocam. Did you reset the device and install no apps for a few days?
I've only had it since Sunday so I'm going to try that today and see what I get :/ But replacing it would be a real pain I'm the a** since I'm studying abroad

Not pleased with 9 hour battery life
Ok, there is much variation here. I've had this for 3 days, charged to 100%...and after a 30 min commute, I'm at 75%.
I ride a motorcycle...is it possible the fitness sensor is going crazy? I had 3800 steps regsitered.
So today I turned the watch OFF and only turned it on after getting to work. It was charged to 100% before I left and it was 97% after 30 minutes...OFF! Today, after 9 hours I was down to 18% battery...I swiped maybe 10 cards, and checked the time maybe 20 times all day...no apps have been loaded other than default setup. It's build #KGW42R, ambient screen is OFF, watch face is MINIMAL.
I basically have to turn it off in the afternoon at work, otherwise it will go to 0%. I'm online now to find a charger I can keep at work.
Was expecting better...
Yeah man that sounds exactly like my situation! Apart from the fact I don't ride a bike lol Anyway I'm down 6% in an hour and a few minutes with basically zero use and about 10 time checks :/ it dies after about 8 and a half hours Thus being miles away from " all day battery life"

I dont know about anyone else, but I've been actually having muh better battery life with the update am at 7 hours off-chrage atm and have got 53% left... Thats still probably not what I expect, but miles better than 9 hours of use

Well at least your in a usable range now. But your still off. I just got 18 hours with ambient on with 5% left. Did you try no auto brightness. I usually keep mine on 2.
No I haven't tried that yet, but I want to try it tomorrow do you think it will help allot ?

Auto-brightness kills battery?
I dunno... It would seem a bit counterproductive if u ask me....

I can't imagine that the CPU cycles it takes to bring the display backlight to an appropriate level is anything worth mentioning. However, I'll test it out
Yeah that would be great thanks! I've actually just noticed something though... I didn't install the Moto Connect app today and have gotten better battery life. I installed it about half an hour ago and since then have dropped at least 6%... Wat up with that? Anyone else notice this?

Fixing the brightness at 1 got me around 18 hours. Pitiful
I'll try disabling motoconnect tomorrow and then checking.
Since I'm rooted, I'm also going to check the better life with the hrm disabled
