Softkeys or Navbar - Xiaomi Mi Max Questions & Answers

Hi everyone!
I can't seem to find any reference here how to activate the Softkey/Navbar of this phone? If you happen to know how, please do let me know.
thanks.

So you want to waste screen for something we already have as hw feature!?

you seem to imply that your definition of "waste" is somehow objective.
IMO, your reply above is a "waste". Why? because it has no value.
Please be respectful on your comments

Taking it the wrong way... And it is a waste... Why do you think people are trying to get rid of it and you are the only one who wants it...
Good luck with that...

Sigh... another wasteful reply from you. NOT all people are trying to get rid of it. Do some research first.

I think you can do this, but need to root your phone.
check http://en.miui.com/thread-27328-1-1.html

Tried it. Unfortunately it didn't work. Thanks though.

navbar or softkey,, that's subjective!!
everyone is different
I prefer navbar..
that is costumizable
not like that softkey,, the looks isn't costumizable.. that glowing softkey is ugly af
IMO
you can argue
but that will not solve our friends above's problem
here you are:
as im using MIUI and some other ROM,, i never be able to activate softkey
with all method all over internet
then i try custom rom,, RR
that is had option to enable navbar
the only thing bother me alot is
1. you can't completely disable softkey,, but xposed addition do,, if you want
2. when you succes disable it,, you can use some app to disable the led of sotkey
3. but you can't disable haptic feedback in softkey,, the only thing i tried is xposed vibration tuner,, to disable ALL vibration on phone..
so you can't completely use vibration
i've never find another solution
that best i can do to DISABLE that softkey
please share here to EVERYONE WANTED and SUCCESS do this
that will be appreciated
BY THE ONE WANTED TO
and please,, everyone that just want to argue or insult,, about the things that not relevant to the QA,, kindly dont post here
Regards
someone fond of NAVBAR

Thanks qzxi. I'm using RR now. I have yet to check the xposed addition, maybe later.
Btw, do you have a non xposed solution to making the navbar transparent? I'm using flat style color bars now for that.
I'm using gravity box to turn the led off for the capacitive buttons as well for the vibrate.

Hello, I ordered a Xiaomi Mi Max, great phone, I`m waiting impatiently. To activate soft keys in the nav bar you can edit the line in /system/build prop, must be rooted, there`s a line that says;
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 (if 0 put 1, if 1 put 0).
replace that file and give permissions 644 with Rootexplorer.apk for example. With roms cyanogenmod based it works. To deactivate the HW keys you must edit certain files in /system/usr/keylayout but really I don`t know exactly

Hello @SubwayChamp, unfortunately that didn't work for me when i was still using MIUI 8. thanks though

You can try Simple Control.apk from Play Store, in mine works.

Simple control is not really what i am looking for.
It's not an alternative a replacement to NAVBAR. it might be an alternative but not a replacement.
btw, there is a builtin function in MIUI that functions the same as simple control, if i recalled correctly it's Quickball.

In MIUI 8.
Flash TWRP
Flash supersu.
Flash Xposed.
Install Xmiui module.
Switch on Nav Bar.
In my opinion it looks ugly. (button on buttons)
but u can get it if u want it.

Finally, I think that this tuto is perfect, it has the option to enable soft keys and disabled HW keys:
https://youtu.be/2wKANork81Q

I'll try this as soon as i have time to revert to MIUI. thanks for this.

"Finally, I think that this tuto is perfect, it has the option to enable soft keys and disabled HW keys:
https://youtu.be/2wKANork81Q"
That didn't work as well SubwayChamp.

I never try system changing beside Xposed,, unless there is no modules that i expect..
I remember there are some transparent related xposed modules out there..
But it makes the ui looks bad,, imo
Transparent is fancy in launcher,, but when you in app,, that looks ugly,, cos the transparent through the homescreen
But i think i know what you looking for
Transparent,, in all apps,, but not through to the homescreen
That's what i looking for too
Afaik,, fscb is the closest to my need
At least that give the decor as the entire screen app
The bad are: tinted the button to b/w,, and not transparent
-----------------
And thanks for the info bout the gravitybox
Try it

A possible working soultion to hide softkeys!

Ok, I understand there are many threads as to softkey management. I, for one would love to hide these soft keys and I think I might have stumbled upon a way that it might work, but because I am not a Dev I myself don't totally understand, how Android works, so hopefully one of the Dev here could help understand what is going on here. So I have been doing a lot of searches to find a way to hide these keys, along the way I stumbled across a few threads where users were loosing their softkeys after using some of the softkey mods, I remember reading some where a user lost his softkeys do to flashing the Deodexed version of the mod while running on a Odexed Rom. I thought I would give this a try I downloaded Deodexed version of the softkey mod from this post:
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1394639&highlight=soft+key) and installed it on my ARHD 2.1.3 Odexed Rom. Behold upon reboot I had full screen! Great! Just a few problems though, I lost not only my softkeys, but also my notification bar at the top. I also could not set any wallpaper but only a live wallpaper. I was able to navigate without any issues as I downloaded and installed Button Savior from the market before installing the modification. Any suggestions from Dev's as to why, how, or if this could work would be great.
Not a dev but I made mine disappear when I was manually editing pngs in SystemUI.apk to mod my softkeys. I must have did something wrong.
I believe adr and his Bamf team are including this in their upcoming rom
I think they are mapping it to power and vol up or down
That would be great! I like the full screen it just looks amazing! I don't mind using Button Savior.
So you suggest removing the softkeys by breaking them and the notification bar..

No not by breaking them, I was hoping that a Dev would be able to see how or why they get removed and in doing so find a solution to hiding the keys altogether.
Eventually. Took Honeycomb a while. Supposedly the tricks in Honeycomb were patched.
They just need time. They already have abilities to rearrange and select which keys are visible plus themes and all that.

Actually seems like a pretty nice idea. Does the OS continue to draw behind the buttons, or does the screen effectively stop where they begin?
I would rather a gesture on the softkey bar (flick up/down) to show/hide it. That way you still retain the functionality of the keys, but at the same time you can utilise the full screen when you want to. Remapping these to the hard buttons sounds horrible (unless I misunderstood that?).
If it was transparent and you wanted to click something at the bottom of an app, android wouldn't know whether you wanted to click the app or the buttons.

we already have a transparent status bar successfully mod over in the themes section. and no you dont lose any function. the bar is still there, its just see-thru. so it functions identically to current usage.
anyway hiding the softkeys is something i would love. and google could have been creative, perhaps 3 finger swipe to make them appear, etc. that way 2 finger pinch to zoom wouldnt confuse it with a 3 finger swipe, twist, etc.

This would be great. I use ADW Ex on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE, and that has a swipe for its lower dock bar works great. When you don't want just swipe down, when needed swipe up.

[Q] Mod for adding Torch/Flashlight to Quick Settings Toggles?

After a LONG time of running custom ROMs, I've reflashed stock 4.4 in order to get Tech support from my carrier.
I figured that I'd give it a try to see if I can get used to it. With Wanam, I've managed to get most of the really annoying stuff resolved. The only thing that I'm really missing right now is a Quick Settings Torch/Flashlight toggle. I can't seem to find an Xposed module or flashable mod to do this. Anyone know of anything to add a flashlight to the existing Touchwiz Quick Settings toggles?

What I use isn't a mod, just an app (I haven't been into modding or flashing in a while, but visit here every now and then to check if anything new is happening). I use Power Toggles in the Play Store. It can add a menu to the dropdown window that can include a toggle for the flashlight.
Not sure if this is what you want since it isn't a mod, but it could be an easy way out.

Thanks, I was hoping for a way to quietly insert a new toggle into the existing touchwiz quick toggles, like they do on custom ROMs, but I think a shortcut on the lock screen will tide me over ok.
It can be a flashable, stand alone mod, but I think most of the apk's needed that you could get from a custom ROM will have many other mods included. I don't think anyone ever made a single mod for that.
Maybe @talkingmonkeys or @enewman17 might have something like that lying around from when they first worked on it. I wouldn't bet on it though.
Alternatively, I believe cnexus may have a how to mod guide for that in the Sprint forums if you want to give it a shot yourself.

[Xposed] [OP2] OnePlus 2 / OxygenOS-specific Xposed modules

Hi all,
Since it didn't seem like anybody had written Xposed modules for some features I wanted, I wrote a couple myself. These are OxygenOS-specific. If you have any other OxygenOS-specific Xposed modules you'd like to see, let me know in this thread. I'm just getting started using Xposed, so I'm learning as I go.
No Quick Pulldown: http://repo.xposed.info/module/io.gavinhungry.xposed.oneplus.noquickpulldown
This disables the "quick pulldown" (which is when you swipe down on the right side of your statusbar, it skips the notifications and takes you straight to quick settings). This module also disables "smart pulldown" (which is when you get the quick pulldown behavior only when you have no notifications). As a side-effect, it also disables "two-finger quick pulldown." Since I don't use that, I don't care, but I could rework it if needed.
Reverse Alert Slider: http://repo.xposed.info/module/io.gavinhungry.xposed.oneplus.reversealertslider
This reverses the direction of the alert slider, so now the bottom position is "No interruptions," and the top position is "All notifications." It also disables the toast notification you see when moving the slider, and it removes the status from below the volume slider, both of which I found annoying (if you want to change the alert slider to control vibratation instead, check out VibrateMode).
No Quick Settings Edit Button: http://repo.xposed.info/module/io.gavinhungry.xposed.oneplus.noqseditbutton
This one is pretty minor, but since I only need to set the ordering of my Quick Settings tiles once, I don't want to see the little edit icon every day in my statusbar. This removes the icon. If you want to reorder your Quick Settings some more, you'll need to disable this module.
Thanks for putting in work?
I cant find the download for apk?
That's what I'm looking for a long time.. Thank you!
Awesome tweak, using both modules

Awesome work bro!
I added RawGit links to the APKs in the OP, for those having trouble finding them.
Thank you so much for the no quick pulldown! It was so frustrating.
some great work, thanks for this, was thinking of a vibrate mode instead of priority for xposed, if there is a solution can you let me know?

Edit: think it would be good if you could select if you want the volume short cuts etc. Would be nice touch
Hey, I shared the link to this thread on OnePlus forums, I hope you don't mind. Just installed the reverse alert slider module, works like it's supposed to, thanks!
I miss Wanam Xposed for Galaxy. Since we don't have custom OOS roms, looking forward for OOS specific mods for OPT. Great stuff!

The biggest reason I disabled that was because I couldn't figure out how to get it stay in sync with the slider - also, I never used it and found it annoying.
Introducing that as an option relies on 2 things - me be able to figure out how to keep it in sync, and me being able to create a UI. I'm not much of an Android developer, I'm afraid. If I can do those, I may also just combine these into a single module, then keep adding options to it.
Great job.
Why don't you add all these options in one app like wanam xposed does to Samsung devices?

Great work. Finally found the exact module which I wanted for the alert slider.
Thanks dev
Um, Its been sometime since I've been part of the Rooted Club (Last Phone to be rooted and unlocked was the HTC Droid DNA). I get the "Xposed is not compatible with Android SDK version 22 or your processor architecture (Arm64-v8a)" Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks.

Soft Buttons Light stays on

I am using HTC Desire 530 with Marshmallow 6.0.1.
Before installing Google Now Launcher the Soft Buttons Light goes off automatically when not in use, only when touched it is on for a couples of seconds, then off again.
After installing Google Now Launcher the Soft Buttons Light stays on as long as the screen is on, even after uninstalling Google Now Launcher, the light is still always on.
I have googled around to find a solution to bring back the automatic off, e.g., by using Soft Buttons Light Version 1.0 by Domenico Messina, but to no avail.
If Google Now Launcher can change from automatic off to always on without rooting, I believe it must be also possible to reverse the situation without rooting. Therefore any hint, trick or tweak to achieve that will be highly appreciated. Or better still a hint on a simple applicaton that can control the soft buttons light as on Galaxy, but applicable to HTC Desire 530.
Thank you.
Any help please…..?
Maybe I did not make myself clear enough.
What I wish is to bring back “Auto-hide navigation bar” that was present before I tried Google Now Launcher.
Now under Settings  Personalization  Navigation Bar, there is only one option that is “Show button to hide navigation bar”, which will show a fourth button into navigation bar that hides navigation bar manually.
What I really wish to be in that settings is “Hide navigation bar”. May someone help me to realize it?
Thank you so much.
Have you tried to factory reset the phone and see if it comes back that way already. There's gotta be some type of setting in Google launcher that keeps you from hiding nav bar. I don't really use that launcher sorry I can't really be any help.
Also I seen that in first post it's says about auto back lights going on and off what desire are you using ? I thought this forum was for HTC desire 530 if so thought they didn't have actual nag buttons. Anyways after you reset let me know I'll download launcher in mean while to see what's up.
I'm surprised this phone doesn't have more support it's kinda of a nice phone for being cheap. Granted it's not like my Asus zenfone laser 2 or nothing but still is awesome.
Thank you so much josh2020glacier for trying to help.
I am almost sure that Factory Reset will bring back the Navigation Bar autohide feature on the HTC Desire 530, but that is the one that I really want to avoid, because I have done quite a lot so that I don’t want to start from scratch.
If there is no other way, then I will have to be satisfied to live with it as it is now.
Once again thank you so much.

Navigation bar

Hello xda
is there any way to have the navigation bar like the old galaxy tabs, that can orient with screen rotation in all 4side of the screen???????
You know its difficult to use the home, back and recent apps button in only one aide of the screen, and the back button allways disappear in the dark
But if its gonna have the software navigation bar, it will be so much easier to work with. ...,
also i used some app that provides the same nav bar , but it come over the screen and some button hide behind it....,
Thanx alot guys
Try using: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270198
I have used it for a long time now, and I cannot live without it at this point. I love it because it not only follows orientation, but it can auto-hide too. Also, once you have that all squared away there's a tutorial on here somewhere that will show you how to (just by editing your build prop file) disable the hardware buttons all together.
Then, (also on here) there's an app that allows you to totally disable touch iput, except the Spen. Not that you are interested, but oust thought I would share how I have mine setup. Good luck!
