Galaxy Tab S USB Problems - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got the OTA update for my Galaxy Tab S 10.5 to Android 6.0.1. Ever since installing it I've been having USB issues from not charging and not being detected in Windows 10. Whenever I plug an USB cable it shows the battery icon with a red X, no matter what cable or charger I use. It also does this in Windows. I installed the Samsung drivers and neither Odin or Kies can detect it. Device Manger doesn't show any unknown device or the tablet. The only way I can charge it now is to turn it off and leave it overnight. This gets maybe 6-8% charge. I've also tried factory reset, but same issue. Is this tablet pretty much done for now?

In the Developer Options menu, tick 'USB Debugging'

If you have not been able to charge to 100% even though you have tried a number of cables and chargers then it looks like you battery has gone bad.
A battery can just die just by going to low, it might have been weak and this was the straw that broke it`s back, I found my T800 battery dead the other week it would not turn on, a bad app had drained it overnight, luckily i charged to 100% and it seems to be fine.
You can get replacement battery`s on eBay for like $10 and tool kits for like $4 and there are lots of youtube video`s on how to replace the battery it looks easy.
I already have my replacement battery and tool kit ready for when my battery goes bad as they all do eventually and i love my 10.5" too much for a dead battery to stop me using it for long.
Here`s my Kit, I have posted this photo a few times.

John.

Have you tried a completely different computer? I have had issues frequently in the past with this device but a different computer always recognized it.
On another note, that red X is normal.

I tried the methods above minus opening it. I left it plugged into my PC for half a week and came back to it. Randomly decided to start working as if none of this ever happened. When I turned it back on it was still stuck at 34%, but it now showed a charging icon instead of a red X. I've been using it on all different chargers so far and no issues.

Hi Guys,
Got a problem here. This will be my 2nd Note2 after sending it back to Samsung couple of months ago. It was charging this morning and tonight after a long day of work, I decided to play some game on it. Noticed that the battery is on 15% I decided to charge it. After 30mins I checked the status of the battery and to my amaze it was not charging! I tried 3 different cables, 2 different chargers, and none of them works. Tried my cables and chargers to a different phones and it does work. I connected my note 2 to my laptop, and it does not recognized it. Tried to charge it while it is turned off, I can see a battery icon, but it does not show the charging battery icon. It will disappear in a few seconds. Please see image below:

It's a rooted phone. Tried to clean the charging port. I even opened it without damaging the warranty sticker, and I can definitely say that there's no moist inside. But just to be sure, I blow it using a hair dryer with the temp off. But with no luck. I used to experienced this a few weeks ago where went back charging after a few minutes. But this time it's worst, it's been an hour and a half and still it is not charging. I can't do a full wipe yet since the battery got 9% left on it.
I know that if it will really not charge, to resolve it..it's either I send it back again to Samsung, replace the board myself (hope it works), or buy an external battery charger. Unless there's more that I can do to fix it.

I did but to my amazed after leaving it alone the whole night, It went back charging again. Yes I am glad that it's working again but I am worried it might happen again sooner or later. I have read some threads with the same issue and with the same outcome, I really want to know what's behind this.
So if its under warranty unroot and monitor

[Q] phone is either bricked or hardware issue. help

i have a glaaxy s2 epic 4g touch (d710) from virgin mobile
let me start by saying with virgin i have no insurance and cant afford a new phone
about a week or so ago my phone randomly turned off and wouldnt turn back on,
it wont even show that it is charging, just a black screen and the blue led light will flash on and off when plugged in, but wont charge
i tried to unbrick it, but when i put it in download mode it tells me it isnt charged enough to enter download mode. so i cant unbrick it.
i bought a new battery to see if it was the battery that was the issue, but still having the same problem.
is it possibly another hardware issue? or is it bricked?

Have you tried another charging cable and/or using another charger/device to top off the battery?
Like an external battery charger? They are like $2 on Amazon

i havent tried an external charging station, but ive tried a different cable and still the same issue
also another note, when i got the new battery today, it had some charge on it and my phone worked fine until it died and it couldnt charge and when it was dead it wouldnt show the battery charging indicator, just the blue flashing light
ebay $6
If the new battery worked until it ran down then it sounds like you might have a bad usb port on the phone. It happens. Here is a cheep workaround.
Buy a couple extra batteries too

What the hell.

Today my phone started to not charge while I had it plugged in and using it at the same time. A few weeks ago I also was getting a notification that said "use the charger the phone came with because this one isn't giving enough power" or some message like that when I always use the original htc charger. My phone is actually losing battery while I have it plugged in now. This is annoying! I'm unrooted and stock.
This message is popping up Btw.

Have you tried a factory reset? If that doesn't work, I bet firewater combined with a Rom and kernel would...our developers kick ass.

Most times I have had this it was charger and/or cable related. I have had an HTC cable that does this and also bad cables. The problem is you are stuck in USB charge mode instead of ac. First method of troubleshooting is another charger and cable.

Ok well, I used a different charger but I think it's a weak one because it took forever to charge and the battery seems to be draining rather quickly.. I used to get almost 5 hours on screen time. About 20 perfect drain every hour. I just unplugged it 30 mins ago and it's already down to 85 percent and I've barely used it. Wtf?

HTC One M8 doesnt want to turn on/weird disk problem

Hey there.
I have a problem with my HTC One M8. First of all, I have slightly damaged the screen in the upper right corner and it has a black spot, like 3-4 weeks ago. Because of the fact I am on my vacations and I am 24/7 on move, I don't have time to fix it and it's not that much of a problem as the phone was 100% functional with that issue - the screen reacts to touch in that black spot. But let's get straight to the real issue. Yesterday, before going bed, my phone had 20% battery. I am used to fall asleep watching some vids/other stuff @ Youtube and so it was @ yesterday's night. When I woke up, my battery was dead so naturally I plugged the adapter to charge it. What struck me was the fact that the screen didn't react to charging. I tried switching to other adapters but no result. I tried to turn on the phone anyway - if the screen is messed up, the phone should turn on anyway and greet me with some sound - it did not. I borrowed my friends laptop and connected the phone to it in order to find out what's going on. The moment I plugged it in and it installed some usb drivers, the laptop didnt display 2 disks (the phone itself + the sd card) but plenty of disks (D-Z) which the laptop wanted to format immediately (havent done that - last resort move). I have installed the HTC Sync Manager but it doesnt find the phone. It may be due to the screen damage, however, I strongly doubt that and I think it's some software issue. Has anybody had such a problem? What should I do? What kinds of software shall I download to try to tackle this issue?

SM-T520 10.1 Tab Pro Battery dead when turned off

Hello,
I have several Tab Pro's that are all having the same problem. I have charged the devices to 100% then when it sits for a few days it will not turn back on. I have plugged it back in and it show 0%.
This is what i have done to try and find the issue...
1. I have reset all cables
2.Tried different batteries (USED)
3.Re-Rom with ODIN and Factory reset
4.Checked the pins on battery terminal for bad solder contacts
5.Waiting on new batteries
Now the interesting part. I charged 2 devices to 100% then disconnected the battery from the Logic board so I could check to see if the battery is discharging on its own. After 3 days I reconnected the battery terminal and tried to turn it back on. They will not power on, then I plug in the charger and battery icon shows up with 100% and then I'm able to turn it back on. Any ideas what the issues with these are I have about 8 of them all doing the same thing?
Thank you,
The battery doesn't discharge on its own so fast like your description. I have a Tab Pro 12.2 , which is off almost 3 months, when turns on it still keep the charge at 99%

The problem is from the cracked battery connector, it will cause intermittent connection. Trust me, remove the back cover, use your hand to press directly on the battery connector while turning it on, it might work depending how bad the crack is. All you need is resolder the battery connector.

I have tried to resolder a few of them and they still do not turn on or they discharge the battery. I have a few that I charged the batteries up to 100% and disconnected them from the battery terminal on the logic board over the weekend. They all still do not turn on, then I connect the charger and the battery icon shows up with 100% then I can turn it on. I have tried what you said and pushed on the terminals on all of the ones I have and not one will turn on. I'm starting to think there is a issue with the power management chip on the board. Has anyone tried to replace any of these?
I have had issues with SM-t/p900 12.2 pros that had the issues you are talking about, not charging, flickering screen, and the terminals needed to be resoldered. I could actually push the pins up and down. The SM-t520 pins are solid and do not move.
