Stuttering - Xiaomi Mi Max Questions & Answers

Hey.
I've been lurking in this section for about a week now, and from what I can see, people mostly have positive things to say about this phone.
I purchased, from eBay, a Hydrogen model and have constant stutters and lag in the UI/animations.
I have continued to experience this after flashing the "unofficial" Cyanogenmod 13 ROM.
Is it just me? Am I doing something wrong? Really love the massive screen on this thing and don't want to have to return it...
Thanks.

Can't speak for MIUI but the only CM13 versions I don't have that problem are the two earliest ones v2(6-14-16) and v3(7-5-16) from the guy who left us. All later ones have it on my hydrogen... So yeah you are not alone.

Maybe it's that slow Snapdragon 650. You should've bought a Helium.

I bought one of the first Mi Maxes that showed up on ebay right after china oficial release... Couldn't wait for helium...
PM me one of your cores and we'll have seven each... lol

HTC one X international - Where to buy? (Also some question)

Hello, after read tons and tons of thread / reviews / comparisons between the GS3 & the HOX, the GS3 dual core & the GS3 quadcore, the HOX dual core & the HOX quadcore, I think I finally decided to go for the HOX int quadcore. While I'm still worried about the battery life I think with some tweaks and updates it should be fine... I hope...
1. So, my first question is, where to buy it... I checked amazon and ebay, some people are selling it but I don't really know if it's safe or not, is there a good place to buy it? (I'm from Canada).
2. My last phone was an HTC touch HD and I wasn't using a phone for about 2 years and a lot of things changed... I never used android. I have read a few thread about root, etc... I guess I'll have the latest update with the phone when I'll buy it, I read there is no way (yet?) to root the phone with the new update. What does that mean? No custom roms? No custom kernels? Will someone release an app to root the phone with the new update?
3. I will be using my phone mainly for internet browsing I'd like to get 5-6 hours on screen time with web browsing, do you think it's possible with custom kernel and tweaks?
4. I watched videos on youtube about multitasking issues (reloading apps every time you switch), while I read it's been fixed in an update I just want to be sure, is that fixed?
TLDR: What is the best place to buy it? Will having the latest update be an issue? Will the battery last for 5-6h on web browsing with some tweaks? Are multitasking issues fixed?
Thanks!

I bought mine from Amazon because then you at least have 30 days to return it if something is wrong.
Having said that, I ended up with a T-Mobile Germany branded version, so I'm not sure what you'll get. Seems like Expansys is more likely to sell you the generic Asian version.
But I still feel much more confident purchasing from Amazon. They take good care of their customers. Returns have never been a problem for me.

I highly recommend Negri Electronics. They're based out of Las Vegas.
Right now $559.50 shipped for the grey One X. Unbranded. Mine is a perfect HT24D April 2012 build. No defects.

Several members had this issue with Amazon dealers. They received branded versions.
I'd recommend Clove... They are very reliable and if anything goes wrong they are very supportive.

3 to 4 hours of max sreen on time if you conserve ir battery, excellent screen off time up to 2 days
kernels can fix but so far custom governor on t3 are not easy to do
best thing about ur choice is thd games
read the how to pick ur unit guide
finally multi tasking can be easily customized to ur needs using root
finally if most important for u is web browsing n not gaming go with the dual core version it has better screen on times
Thanks for all your replies.

Yeah. I considered sending it back right away, but it has been perfect otherwise. With all of the defects I read about, I figured I shouldn't take the chance and I could always custom rom it.
The one thing I love about Amazon is that the return would be no hassle.

Branded version has carrier logo on it? What is the difference between branded and unbranded?
Also is there a way to fix the multitasking issue without removing sense? (I guess you don't have sense on custom roms)

No logo (other than HTC), but there was carrier bloatware on mine(T-mobile) and a carrier splash screen at boot up. The wireless hotspot works fine, so it's not like it's locked, but it was still annoying. Mine also defaulted to German, but that was easy to remedy.

Ok thanks, I'd like some feedback from the people who have tested both US and Int version to know if there is big differences for battery life and perfs, for games I don't really care since I find gaming on touchscreen horrible, if there was something like a mini gamepad that you can connect on the USB port why not, but gaming on touch screen I don't care.
I want good multitasking, good battery life, storage (16gb is small considering data is limited in canada so I can't really use cloud), I don't care about LTE since my area is not covered (yet), I'd also want to know something about updates, are both phones updated at the same time when HTC release an update? Or one phone is updated more frequently than other?
EDIT: Just looked at amazon (http://www.amazon.com/HTC-S720E-Unlocked-Android-SmartPhone/dp/B0078LXM4A) and I found one unlocked but why all HTC one X don't have warranty?

[ZEN-KERNEL] On find7 and other Linux 3.4-based devices

Hi,
I'm from http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...3-10-zen1-dollar-drink-night-bfs-msm-t3062814 and also on the nexus 9
It's cool to see somebody has noticed -zen kernel in a far off community such as the find 7.
Somebody noticed I mentioned I'd support -zen on a few flagships in addition to the nexus devices.
I explained the hurdle of having 3rd party testing for such a daunting task. My BFS work on android/3.10 has yielded nothing but positive feedback on the N6 and the 64-bit N9.
However, somebody here reached out to me and said "hey support us, we are active but we don't have enough developers here"
I would happily do this but I have observed the find 7 is using a 3.4 kernel. In order to do the work with BFS I will likely have to reboot and flash to it dozens of times per hour, pull logs constantly, test all situations for kernel errors, etc.
Before you say "oh he just wants us to buy him a new phone sick son of a b*&$&$&$"
No not at all, what I need to bring Zen to the find7 (and likely other devices like the N5 and N7 - who I have maintainers for a future BFS patch already in place, they just need the patches) is anybody who is willing to volunteer any 3.4 Linux kernel running android device, with an unlocked bootloader
It can be broken, damaged, hold no charge as long as the screen is mostly legible and runs 3.4, unlocked bootloader, etc. I will probably need no more than 1-2 weeks with it, so if anybody volunteered I will happily send it back to them as soon as I'm done with it.
Somebody here asked me, I told them I can't possibly do it on 2nd hand testing (not that itnisnt greatly appreciated) but for a task like this it isn't ideal. if I get 1 hour to work it's much faster to just do itnall myself and flash maybe dozens of times versus sending test builds and waiting for reply and secondary logs, etc.
Thanks,
B
My endeavor to bring it to the nexus 9, which I do not own was successful but finding testers for that thing was basically impossible. Little interest and little users overall (I almost backed out but since I finished the patch for tegra I released it blindly and it works well)
Someone give this man some help! I want a custom kernel for my Find 7a.
Have you tried the oppo forums? I'd let you use mine if you're in the Chicago/north west Indiana area

alright just let me know (;
Just to ask quickly, which ROMs would u support with ur kernel? I have tried CM12 and I am now on NamelessROM which I am loving.
I know some kernel DEVs only like to work for one ROM, or only for the stock OS of the device.
Thank u for wanting to work on our device, it seems like all the DEVs went for the OnePlus One, and everyone forgot about the blatantly better Oppo (lolz)

Any XL Custom ROM's also have a Pixel variant?

So bummed to be a Pixel owner these days. I don't know if there is a device running android with as little support as there is for the Sailfish. Do any of the Pixel XL custom ROM's also have a Pixel version? I like the phone but am getting so so bored with it. These dual boot partitions are pretty much the kiss of death for development activity, can't say I really blame devs who steer clear. Anyway, was just curious. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to ready the note from my little pity party. :silly:

How long have you been an Android user? I don't know about you, but coming from eclair, it's come a looooong way. While I love custom roms on most devices, stock Android has gotten really good.

@dictionary - I've been on Android since my old HTC Aria (2010 - running eclair also). Yeah, stock is a pretty good experience these days. I just think that like a lot of users I was pretty excited about the prospects of Google putting out this phone, expecting it to be like the Nexus series. There are still some things missing, and I'm not a huge fan of Xposed modules to compensate. This is about the longest I've had a handset in about 5 years without switching, so I do like it. Anyway, think I'll just have to try a different phone next... or, I just get a cheaper, second device to satisfy my flashing whims.

I can agree to all that. Next device might be a One Plus build. I had the One Plus One, and actually loved it. Didn't have the screen or other issues others had. Their Dev community is pretty much Nexus One level, so you're covered there. Affordable too. Just pray you don't need to contact them directly lol

I've wanted to try a OnePlus but I'm on Verizon. Pretty much none of those Chinese OEM's make CDMA variants of their phones. At least not ones that cover all the VZW LTE bands. The new Huwawei might come to VZW, but it's also priced as a flagship. I'm sort of hoping the Essential community picks up now that the device is basically being given away for a shave and a haircut considering its specs. Not 100% sure if they've followed the same dual boot partition scenario, I know that the Razer phone does. I might hold out to see what LG does. They're dropping the G line and rebranding their flagship.

1440hr to unlock

I tried to unlock bootloader on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 pro. I know that, when you try for the first time, you have to wait 360hr, but for some reason I have to wait 1440hr. Does anyone know why? Could it be that I am on MIUI 10 Beta?
It sounds ridiculous...

WHAT? Are they out of their minds? I think that 15 days was already unacceptable but 2 months?? This is more than ridiculous. What are their intentions? To make android a bad replica of iOS? They progressively take back the freedoms that we have been enjoying in it. They are bricking our devices for downgrading, they don't authorize accounts for unbricking and they constantly increase the requested time to unlock bootloader. I'm afraid that at some point, which seems to be not that far, Xiaomi will stop being my brand of choice when it comes to smartphones. And that's bad because I'm not interested in buying a device from any other brand.
No wonder, people unlocking their phones and installing custom roms destroys Xiaomi's business model. TechAltar did a nice episode about it:

they should attack vendor rom installers then. they are the one replacing ads with crazy intrusive ones not from xiaomi.
as people that know how to use custom ROM, should be savvy enough to disable the default apps, or do ads blocking even witohut root

Yes I read, I was talking about the fact that it went down to 700 hours, but also that has happened to others. Honestly I find this ridiculous..
I received my phone today too and after trying to unlock, I got the 720hrs..
I thought the 15 day wait was bad. Xiaomi can stop using the excuse its to stop sellers putting malicious roms on their devices. This is anti consumer and will put devs off the brand which is terrible for everyone even those whos device is already unlocked
It's to keep people using MIUI, while giving the impression that they're open to custom ROM support.
It is definitely 720 hours now.
My first 3/32 model that I gave to my Fiancee was only 360 when I unlocked it (August 10th requested - August 25th unlocked). Now it looks like I'll be waiting until September 30th to unlock this 4/64gb model. *Sigh* Looks like im installing blockada again to fight Xaiomis damn ads, while using MIUI for the next month. I thought using it for 15 days was bad enough. I miss Lineage already... but at least my Fiancee will be happy.

Stupid tutorials like this and youtube tutorials who tell people to unlock your phone send a message to xiaomi that you got fake ROM and want to unlock it to flash original MIUI.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...ne-xiaomi-redmi-note-5-whyred-unlock-t3778049
Yes stupid tutorials like this probably made them to increase time because people send them the message that they got fake rom but they dont have fake rom.
wow this is something new , glad tht i have already unlocked mine. bad move from xiaomi .
This is ridiculous, 360 hours is the enough but I'm also getting 720 hours...
I got 720 hours too. Until then, i have to remove the bloatwares with adb and use nova launcher.

Looking into buying this phone... Need help.

I'm looking into buying this phone but I like a device with a lot of rom support. Is there something I'm not aware of or is the device too new to have much development? Thanks!
No TWRP. Some ROMs supports this, and most of the Kernels does.
Sent from my OnePlus7TPro using XDA Labs
I'm new to this device but from everything I gathered, the lack of ROMs doesn't really have anything to do with the 7T. It's more of a problem with Android 10. Google changed a lot of system stuff with Android 10 which makes it harder for the TWRP developers to get a custom recovery working. As far as I know, even the new Pixels don't have TWRP yet. Once devs get a working recovery going, I'm sure the ROMs will be flowing through here.
Some of the Magisk roms like xXx have worked on it. If you're looking for a full blown rom, they'll be few and far between.
I don't think we'll see much happening in TWRP until more 10 phones come out. These were among the first, and most people already had plunked down on the 7 Pro.

I was really excited about this devices since i heard so much about the oneplus brand, coming from Nokias (900,920,1020), HTC (one m8), Huawei (p10),Samsungs (Note 8), Huawei (mate 10 pro) i heard so much about it and how fast the devices are etc. Ill give you my honest opinion about it, as far as development goes its starting to pick up like some other members have said there are a couple of roms out there, rooting is possible and super easy to do and there are a couple of custom kernel like blu spark and elemental X that work perfectly and gives you a great battery. Before rooting this devices i decided to give it a go without messing with it i have read and watched several reviewers that the battery wasnt that great that it would give you only five hour of SOT etc, my last device was a Mate 10 pro and that devices even tho i cant root anymore since there are no bootloader unlocking for huawei anymore was a great phone super fast an never stutter battery was perfect between 7 or 6 and a half hours. Knowing that the oneplus was "only" five i didnt really care, once I got my device and it settle it really impressed me, i was getting around 8 to 7 hours of sot with a smaller battery, that was awesome speed was great everything was going perfect till i found out that the screens on the OP7T are very faulty, more so then other screens of other phones i have owned. The OP7T greatest defect is the damn mura of greenish tint on grey backgrounds when nightmode is active on around 20-30% brightness in a dark environment. I am one of those with the issue, for me its fine i know ill get use to it but it is something that reviewers wont say or talk about, now keep in mind we are not talking about a small percentage of devices this is a big batch and it doesnt matter if you have the chine model EU model IN Model etc the are all affected, oneplus representatives know about the issues and the only thing you can do its get a replacement hoping for the best cause it might be that the replacement phone will be worse. i advice you to look into the issues read the forums and decide after that. i hoped i knew before i bought since my warranty wont cover where i live now all i can do is just make the best get use to it and just make sure next time its the first thing ill check, beside that the devices is great overall but keep that in mind. sorry for the long post.
