[ROM][P905][UNOFFICIAL] LineageOS 14.1 | Android 7.1.2 Nougat 20180117 - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Android Development

I'm not responsible for any damage to your device of any sort.
By flashing this you take responsibility of anything that happens.
Process at your own risk!
This firmware was developed for the p905. It doesn't apply to the p905v at this time because it's bootloader locked and a custom recovery isn't possible.
If you want to check firmware - please make backup. Better to store all partitions, at least efs and may be modem.
I'm using nano gapps.
Instructions
1. Install custom recovery
2. Download the zip(s) - firmware and Google Apps additional package (optional)
3. Backup all partitions (it least efs) and store somewhere - it need to do - because you can loose imei
4. Full wipe all
5. Flash firmware and gapps
Root
Settings -> About tablet -> press 7 times "Build number"
Then Settings -> Developer options -> Root access
Work
Almost all work: calls, mobile data, wifi, bluetooth, sound, vibra, camera (photo), sdcard, mtp, otg, pen, gps, ir
Known Issues
1. Sound issues: volume during a calls
About crash in the dialer
If you upgrade with the old firmware (7 version or less), most likely you will get a crash in the dialer, at least I got it.
There are 2 options to solve the problem:
1. clean install the latest version
2. in any file manager (es explorer, solid explorer or other) as root go to the folder data\data\com.android.dialer\databases and delete both files (dialer.db and dialer.db-jornal). It will be recreated on next dialer launch.

@Valera1978: great news... Many thanks...:good:

this is good to see!!
p900 owner, but just as exciting to see 7.0 come so fast! the newer multi window style might get me to finally ditch TW
edit: cm14 still not even available for Qualcomm versions of note 4 -- a newer and more popular device. you were fast indeed!

I'll wait until the build stabilises but it's great to see you working on a Nougat build.

Does it work with sm-p902 ? Similar to p901 , sim card 3g version, thank you by the way

Does this have OTG support or is it treated the same as CM13?

I want this to stabilize and firm up in terms of updates before I jump in but damn I am drooling for that built in multi-window update. Just thinking about the types of modules that will be created that will build off this work is bringing a grin to my face.

Thanks a lot!
One more bug - no data connection.
WiFi works excellent. Stylus works too.

@Valera1978
Thank you for this my friend!
You're the best dev ever!

Exiting!
Will install and test soonest.
Many thanks for making our tablet interesting again

WOW! Guys, thanks so much! If I wasnt using my NP12 so much for work right now, I'd be all over this.

@Valera1978
Bro, thank you very much for your AWESOME work!

Nice but WLAN Not working since cm13

just wondering...
So has anyone tried this yet? I really want to try this but curious as when a more stable build will come out & address the known issue... bluetooth & camera the big ones... ALSO are the only known issues with the 3 issues of bluetooth, camera, & no data connectivity? (But wifi works) any replies or comments would help out.

@Valera1978 , really? THIS IS AWESOME MATE!! my 2-year-old NP12.2 is getting nougat faster than my 2016 phone!!

can someone please post screenshots and feedback about the newest version

I'm trying to install the latest version (cm-14.0-20161019-UNOFFICIAL-viennalte) and just after "Patching system image unconditionally" I'm getting:
E:unknown command [log]
E:unknown command [log]
Then it continues to ...done
Should I worry about that?

No, thats an "issue" on all cm14 Roms. Get the same on oneplus3
There wont be an issue in the rom because of that

@Valera1978
Thanks bro for the last update!
The rom is AWESOME!

Frequently Asked Questions
Question 1:
I installed HDX Nexus Gapps and now want to use Mini Gapps package. However CM-11 seems to preserve HDX Nexus Gapps. How do I fix this?
Answer:
- Flash this in Safestrap
- This wll clean the /system partition ready for fresh installation.
- You will then need flash a new ROM, Gapps etc.
- This is required, as a result of a change I made in the recovery code to protect Safestrap from been wiped out.
Question 2:
My phone doesn't show up when connecting via USB, what's going on?
Answer
- This may help
- Go into Settings->Storage
- Click on the 3 vertical dots in the top right corner
- Select "USB computer connection"
- Then select Connect as "Media device (MTP)"
- Your phone should then appear as a Media Device
Question 3:
How do I get into Amazon's stock recovery?
Answer
- With the phone powered off
- Whilst holding the volume up key, press the power button.
- When it power's on let go of the power button (still holding the volume up key)
- You should end up in stock recovery.
Question 4:
The camera button isn't working on the 2015/07/25 build, how do I fix it?
Answer
- On the lock screen look for the camera icon in the bottom right corner
- swipe it left and select which camera you want as default
Question 5:
When will we get CM-12?
Answer
- Hold the phone, we only just got CM-11 - enjoy!
- We need an updated kernel so we need FireOS 5 with working root
Question 6:
Contribution by: @hijax2001
How do I reset to Factory Stock 4.6.1 - removing CM11/root/Safestrap in the process?
Answer
1) Downloaded Minimum ADB tools, installed to C:\ADB for convenience
2) Downloaded 4.6.1 stock image from http://fire-phone-updates.s3.amazonaws.com/update-fire-phone-33.4.6.1_user_461013320.bin, saved it to C:\ADB and renamed this file update.bin
3) Followed these steps to gain ADB USB access. Alternately, I found out later I could go to Settings on the phone, then to Device, then to "Get info about your Fire" and then tap on the Model Number several times until "Developer Options" comes up. Clicking that will take you to the option to enable "USB Debugging".
4) I also grabbed the Kindle Fire ADB drivers from here for convenience in Step 7 (below)
4) Rebooted into stock recovery by holding Power and Volume Up. Yes, you can do this from anywhere - phone on or off. And yes, you can still get to stock recovery this way even if you have Safestrap recovery installed
5) Use volume down to reach "Apply update from ADB" option then press Power
6) Open Command Prompt from Windows, reach your ADB folder (mine is C:\ADB in this example), type ADB devices. If you see what looks like a serial number (letters and numbers), then ADB is seeing your phone and you can skip to Step 8. If nothing there, follow Step 7.
7) For me, ADB did not initially detect my phone. I ended up having to go into Control Panel in Windows, to Device Manager, find the Fire phone, choose Update Drivers, then Browse My Computer, Let Me Pick, Show All Devices, Have Disk, then find the folder from Step 4 (above) and add Android Composite ADB Interface by hand. Once I did that, I unplugged and replugged the USB to the phone and then typed "ADB devices" again at the ADB command prompt, like in Step 6. There it is! Ok, next step...
8) Type the command ADB sideload update.bin and let the magic happen. When done, reboot the phone and everything is reset.
9) If you're going to sell the phone, or if you don't want all of your Android apps from before repopulating (because some of them just aren't going to work or work correctly under Fire OS), immediately go to Settings/Device and "Factory reset your Fire" - this will wipe the SD partition where the old apps are saved.
Cool side-note, regarding Step 9... I still had Nova launcher available. Running it under Fire OS works great! Nice to have the stability of the Fire OS the hardware desires, along with a zippy, traditional launcher to navigate.
Question 7:
Contribution by: @DatwasEz
MUTE Button does not work during calls, what can I do about this?
Answer:
- Btw on a side note I have noticed that although mute button doesn't work during calls, you can press the pause button for hold, this acts like mute and they can't hear tested myself last night
-
Question 8
Contribution by: @gooserayos
How do I configure Snap Camera HDR for my Fire Phone?
Answer:
- Click the bottom left menu icon then click the "Other" tab
- Check "Show Advanced Settings"
- Go back to "Photo" tab
- Check "Zero Shutter Lag" and (optional) "Denoise"

Before installing perform a factory reset from Safestrap Wipe menu - that should fix it.
I'll add a instruction to the OP.

EOL [ROM][Unofficial][9.0][signed][OTA] Lineage OS 16.0 for Xperia Z1 compact

This thread is discontinued - please visit the LineageOS 17.1 sucessor thread
This thread aims at providing LineageOS 16.0 builds for the Sony Xperia Z1 compact with current security patches.
You can consider this thread as a successor of our LineageOS 15.1 thread, where you may also find some useful information.
This is the joint effort of 115ek and MSe1969 (contributions welcome).
Code:

We offer two build variants:
A. Standard LineageOS 16.0 build
This build flavor aims at providing LineageOS 16.0 "as is" with most recent security patches.
If you want to install Google Apps (GApps) you have to use this build variant.
GApps are optional, of course. The smaller the GApps package, the better (pico). If you want "Okay google" support you need at least nano.
Just check the package comparison to see what fits your needs.
B. Pre-installed microG build variant with additional security patches
For the security/privacy focused (more details about below feature list, see here)
Pre-installed microG and F-Droid same as the LineageOS for microG project
Pre-installed AuroraStore
eSpeak TTS engine (FOSS TTS solution)
Additional security hardening features listed below
Access to /proc/net blocked for user apps
Bundled netmonitor app to allow network monitoring
Enhanced Privacy Guard: Switches for motion sensors and other sensors
Cloudflare as default DNS (instead of Google)
Privacy-preferred default settings
Optional blocking of Facebook- and Google-Tracking
Optional disable captive portal detection
Increased max. password length of 64
No submission of IMSI/phone number to Google/Sony when GPS is in use
Default hosts file with many blocked ad/tracking sites
Privacy-enhanced Bromite SystemWebView
Additional restriction options for secondary users
Constified JNI method tables

What about root access?
Root isn't included per default (except root over adb, but it's off by default).
If you want to gain root access to your apps use one of these (depending on your taste/needs):
Official Lineage Add-on https://download.lineageos.org/extras use su (arm) 16.0 here and flash via TWRP
Magisk https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
Please note there is an issue starting with Magisk 19.1 which leads you to being unable to boot to recovery in any way. More info

ANT+ isn't working?
You need the 2 apps:
ANT Radio Service (Github) / (Google play)
ANT+ Plugin Service (Github) / (Google play)
afterwards setting proper permissions is essential!
Go to Apps & Notifications -> See All Apps
Select 'ANT Radio Service'
Select Permissions

microG initial configuration after 1st install (microG build variant only)
After the first installation of this ROM, you need to setup microG.
Please read the instructions given on the LineageOS for microG site, section "Post Install - UnifiedNlp"
OTA Updates on an encrypted device
In case your device in encrypted and you have flashed apps creating "survival scripts" in /system/addon.d (e.g. Magisk), there *may* be a dependency to files in the data partition.
An OTA update until current TWRP 3.3.1 does not decrypt the data partition, as this is usually not needed - under specific circumstances however, this may lead to unwanted effects (up to a non-booting device!) during an OTA update, if such scripts aim at modifying files located in the data partition. If unsure, rather perform the update manually as dirty-flash in TWRP or - which in general is a good practice - regularly perform backups in TWRP. If you haven't flashed anything on top of my build (except for the LineageOS root addon, which is no problem), there shouldn't be any issue.
(This commit in TWRP indicates, that this potential issue will be solved in future TWRP releases).
Ok ok .

Important announcement:
There were problems with FM radio in lineage-16.0-20190114 which was linked one post above.
Please use lineage-16.0-20190115 from here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=11410963190603901105
Took a while, but last night I flashed this. And it's fabulous! Some observations, regarding your list in the OP (couldn't test everything, though):
GPS: not just OK but I had the fasted 3D fix since I moved away from stock! Much faster than with signed LOS 15.1 or munjeni's LOS 7.1.2 (well below 10 seconds from my living room window, down from sometimes 90 - 120 seconds!)
WiFi Hotspot: working good and reliably
Compass: somewhat working but GPS Test says "unreliable", and indeed compared to my tablet directions are off by several degrees (pointing to NNW where the tablet says N); attempts to calibrate didn't have any effect
FM radio: working but mono (you wrote that already)
USB OTG: working good and at least reading is about as fast as with other ROMs (USB stick is formatted NTFS, btw)
===
I flashed together with Magisk 18 and openGapps 9 pico
During first boot phone froze completely during boot animatoin; had to hard reset, then it booted fine into system
Google initial setup was a bit weird, had a FC first, then a short loop through the initial three screens, but after a few attempts it finally ran through.
Didn't do much more now, as I need my phone for, well, what you usually need a phone for , so I'm going back to 15.1 now. But the first few steps were extremely promising. Probably will be testing a bit more over the weekend.
Can't wait to use this as a daily driver! :good::good::good:
Using 15/01/2019.
Dirty flashed over last 15.1 (wiped cache/dalvik/system but kept data).
Working really well so far.
One thing I've noticed is that the UI seems a bit slower/somewhat choppier than 15.1, very slightly though. Barely noticeable, but the UI does seem to be a bit slower.
Other than that it's really impressive and is going to be my daily driver until/if something goes bad.
Another thing is twrp 3.2.3 backup restore of this rom seems to result in bootloop, but that might as well be because of me keeping data from 15.1.

It's just my impression, but I've seen that sometimes the sense of slow UI may be just due to the speed of animations. Try changing the 3 scale animations on developer settings from 1x to 0.5x as is a common value
Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this but: when using Dir file manager (super clean and light weight) I can't add home screen shortcuts to files for some reason. This worked on stock lollipop but not on Lineage 15.1 or 16.
How do I make this work again?

It's definitely a problem with the app itself.
I just tested my preferred file manager - Total Commander - and it worked fine.
Also ES did the job.
Only your mentioned Dir file manager wasn't able to do it.
It seems there is a new api to access shortcuts? Maybe they don't support it? Did you tried on an other device with Android >=8 ?
I just made a screenshot how it should look like (the confirmation dialog).
EDIT:
Yes. Had the right suspicion: https://github.com/veniosg/Dir/issues/126
It's a known app problem.

Thanks a lot for replying. For some reason, I assumed that Total Commander for Android was shareware/adware.
Hopefully Dir will be updated soon enough, meanwhile I'll be using Total Commander.
Thanks again for looking this up for me and for suggesting alternatives. :highfive:
After 1 month using this version 15.1.2019 every day, i have found this critical problems:
- camera (force closing)
- audiofx (not good working)
- sms app (when i receive sms phone is still vibrating)
- sometimes graphic artefacts on navigation buttons
- sometimes freezing when i use more apps
This rom is pretty, clean, without unuseful functions and this is why i like LineageOS. :good:

Concerning camera: I have this problems too (unregular) although I can't reproduce them. A reboot should help. @SpiritCroc has merged a commit that may be connected to this http://gerrit.aicp-rom.com/c/AICP/device_sony_msm8974-common/+/84248 though I'm not sure if it solves the problem. We'll see.
Concerning AudioFX: It's buggy in my opinion - independent of devices and android version. I also had issues with it on Oreo and on totally different devices. If someone has got a hint: feel free to share
Concerning SMS app: I also have issues here but I think it's related to the lineage code and nothing device specific. Keep in mind that Lineage 16 isn't officially released until now. If the next build is also buggy please provide a log.
Concerning the rest: Same as above --> LOS 16 isn't released and there are still issues left to fix.
I'll upload a new build soon. Let's see what it brings.

If you didn't have that before, it should help; AICP didn't need it at first in comparison to lineage, but we included it now for a cleaner approach, see discussion here http://gerrit.aicp-rom.com/c/AICP/frameworks_base/+/84029

Micro Gapps
First: Thanks for the Update.
My question:
Mostly the Rom-Providers not using MicroG recommend Pico-Gapps for their builds.
I am using them too for all LOS-related Roms without problems.
Is there a special reason/need for your Rom to recommend Micro-Gapps instead?

Yes, you're right. Generally spoken the smallest gapps package (pico) is the best in terms of performance (apart from no gapps package ).
Additionally you can easily install missing google apps from playstore afterwards (e.g. maps, youtube...). But there are apps/functionalities you can't get from the playstore, for example "Okay Google".
I just checked the gapps comparison again https://github.com/opengapps/opengapps/wiki/Package-Comparison
It seems nano is sufficient to get these functionalities (so with pico you won't get them). Maybe that was micro earlier... I don't know
But thanks for your hint, I'll update the thread accordingly.

Since I opened my Z1c some 18 months ago I'm running the nano packages and am very happy with that. Same applies to my recently opened tablet z.

Does anybody of you know AdrianDC (who was part of the team of this Z1 ROM version also) and the way how to reach him?
Maybe you, 115ek?
I have a Sony Ericsson mobile (SEMC 2011 devices) and he was the one having released the only Lineage 14.1 ROM Nougat version for those models (cm13 has been released by 'LegacyXperia' group on basketbuild.com before). It runs perfectly except two remaining issues of the camera's audio function which should be the very last bug fix at it.
Unfortunately my direct messages on XDA to him don't seem to reach him (no read status).
Does anybody can help me to reach him?
I don't even know if the LegacyXperia team is still existing or where those developers have been moved to.
Thank you so much for any hint you can give to me!

First of all, thank you so much for all your work man, I just saw that you not only maintain official LOS for dragon and this crDroid port but also commit to official TWRP. I don't know how you do all this, but I admire and applaud it.
Two quick questions:
1. GApps are optional, right?
2. Do I flash Magisk after first boot (as described in OP under "Pre-Installation") or right after ROM (as described in OP under "First time installation")?
Edit:
Ok, I just couldn't wait and flashed it. To answer my own questions:
GApps are indeed optional and I flashed Magisk only after booting crDroid for the first time.
@ followmsi
So far I encountered the following problems:
1. A lot of artifacts/flickering/flashing of the UI, looks like refreshes/repaints that get stuck half-way. Sometimes it is impossible to e.g. use the keyboard because of this. If you want I can provide photos, but it should be pretty easy and obvious to reproduce this unless there is something seriously wrong with my installation.
2. Booting into crDroid only works every other time or so, it often freezes on the large Google logo screen. Holding the power button until it shuts off mostly fixes the problem and it boots successfully on the next try, but sometimes even a third try is needed.
Apart from these problems, first impression is very good. Nice to see Android 10 with lots of customization on the good old dragon
Thanks again and let me know if I can be of assistance.

I've been using this since your first test build. One of the better roms out there.
Considering your lack of time with your busy schedule, I really appreciate it!
Thanks! ??

Edit: Just an FYi, a dirty flash from CR 6.5 to 6.9 was buggy. Might need a clean flash.
Also, Magisk Canary didn't want to flash. Tried multiple methods. Not a big deal because Magisk betta worked just fine.
Everything is running well,
Thanks!

Awesome, Thanks. Just upgraded from Dirty Unicorns. Flashed with Nik Gapps, no problem except prior mentions in the LOS thread. Thank you a gain and have a great holiday!
First of all, thank you for all your work . I have flashed crDroidAndroid-11.0-20201219-dragon-v7.1.zip and Nik gapps. After the display has switched itself off, it switches on again automatically after 5 seconds and so on. If I turn the display off using the button, it won't turn on again. Do I have any setting that causes this?
It's time for a new build ..

Thank you @followmsi for your support of this ROM, as I much prefer it with all it's customization over basic LineageOS. It seems to run much better now than before as well. I think there were some RAM-related issues.
But I have run into a grave problem, as I have accidentally turned off WiFi and now the tablet has become unresponsive, as the UI seems to crash repeatedly. Only the status bar and lock screen symbol pop in and out. I tried to turn on WiFi by booting into TWRP and changing "wifi_on" to 1 in "/data/system/users/0/settings_global.xml" but it didn't work. The tablet runs warm and safe mode doesn't work either btw. Any idea?
Edit: I decided to perform a clean install, since it's been a while anyway and we've skipped a couple versions as well. Anyway, I initially tested to turn WiFi off and it worked fine, no crash. I proceed to set up my device somewhat, enable dark mode, change icon shape, go through all crDroid settings etc.; I turn off WiFi once more, from the quick-settings, and it happened again. I'm not sure what setting or customization exactly leads to this, but I guess I'll have to be very careful not to turn it off for now. If I can help troubleshoot this issue, let me know.
Edit2: I think I figured out what it is: Data usage (daily/monthly) in the quick settings. Gotta keep that turned off.

Just a note in case anyone else stumbles upon this: I could not get this build to boot with OpenGapps and a clean install, tried three times including format data and everything. Then tried NikGapps and it worked like a charm.
ROM itself is awesome, no problems so far, reasonably fast considering the hardware and a lot of cool features.

Hi, again @zahidm. Thanks for another ROM one our beloved device OnePlus 6.
Does this ROM have face unlock? I've been using Evolution X and liked it so far, but it doesn't have face unlock and I miss having the convenience of face unlock.
And does it have double tap gestires(screen wake and sleep)? I also wanted to ask why all the custom ROMs don't have double tap to lock (on homescreen) like OOS. It's a pretty handy feature when you're using the phone kept on a surface and not in hand.
Thanks again for all the help
It's all you developers because of whom this more than 2 years old phone still feels exciting

Hi, Double tap to lock is OP Launcher function itself, I can add OPLauncher as an optional in future build or you can downloawd Lawnhcair from PlayStore, it also have double tap to lock. Double tap to Wake is built in feature of ROM that is available. Thanks for compliments it means a lot.

I didn't rooted this ROM but available modded magisk must work because it's same in A11, Face Unlock is under development.
And k don't understand which procedure you need are yoi flashing custom ROM in OP6 first time? If yes then please read stuff about Slot A / B or see my written instructions of flashing.
Thanks for the ROM everything working great so far.

RELEASE
This is an alternative ROM for the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact.
Creating this to honor the great work of modpunk and derf elot from https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-lineageos-18-1-unofficial-2-0-update-2021-01-20.4047763/ which seems to be discontinued. Posting an own thread to keep the latest versions visible, I'm NOT claiming authorship over the ROM.
I basically just build the ROM using the latest changes from upstream LineageOS/Google and kernel updates (usually incorporated by derf elot ) See my post.
FEATURES
Signed with dev keys
EAS kernel
Passes SafetyNet out of the box (thanks Rooted_Ansh, Havoc-OS Team and kdrag0n)
Seedvault (Video)
IMS support (thanks to Rooted_Ansh and also Shujath)
17.1 has stock Sony camera (not possible on 18+)
DOWNLOAD
You can download the latest release here.
HINT: Download both the ZIP and md5sum file so TWRP can check the consistency of the upload/download.
Make sure you download the right version, vanilla LineageOS is named lineage-*UNOFFICIAL-lilac.zip while the MicroG version is named lineage-*-MICROG--lilac.zip
REQUIRED FIRMWARE: 47.2.A.11.228
IMPORTANT: I only test the 17.1 releases myself. The 18.1/19.1 are build from mostly the same sources and hopefully work. I only test them roughly.
Backup download
INSTALLATION
IMPORTANT: Magisk seems to cause issues (bootloops) on update, so remove it first and reinstall if required. Note that Magisk is usually not required unless you want root.
Put the zip file of the ROM on your SD card or internal store and boot into recovery.
When coming from stock ROM, do a full wipe (i.e. factory reset) via "Wipe". You don't need to wipe system. When flashing the stock ROM you can select to not keep user data which is equivalent to this step.
Go to "Install", select the zip file and add optionally the gapps zip. Then flash it.
After updates you may now wipe cache&dalvik (option after install)
I suggest to use modpunks TWRP recovery. Again: Don't forget the md5sum file!
TWRP 3.3.1-0 by modpunk / derf elot
Or use the latest TWRP for 17.1/18.1 or TWRP for 19.1.
3.7.0 Seems to work well with latest updates (decryption working) but LineageOS 19.1 (Android 12) requires the ones with "_12" suffix, e.g. 3.6.2_12.
For ease of use I suggest to flash this recovery (only required once):
Boot in Fastboot mode: Hold "Volume Up" while connecting the USB cable to phone and PC
Flash TWRP by running this on the PC: fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.3.1-0-lilac-android10-1.img
(adjust the filename if necessary)
From now you can boot TWRP by turning on the phone with "Volume Down" + Power
I heavily recommend to make a full backup before any installation so you can go back in case of issues. Flashing an older ROM usually helps to recover bootloops etc.
Upgrades between versionsDirty-flashing (e.g. from 17.1 to 18.1) works well but you have to also flash a GApps version matching the Android version or the device will bootloop.
For the upgrade to 19.1 you may need to fully remove OpenGapps by wiping /system and install e.g. MindTheGapps.
SUPPORT
There is NONE. If you have any issues or question ask in the thread so maybe someone else knows the answer.
I'm just providing the ROM (Lineage 17.1 variant) I use myself for others to try to and just build the Lineage 18.1 ROM without much testing.
If you prefer to use a more well-tested Android 11 ROM, I suggest to look at Havoc-OS.
Contributions to the sources are welcome and likely get integrated into the next release.

Thank you for keeping this rom up to date for this small but loyal userbase! A miracle come true for me cause I can't build roms on my own.
Thank you so much!! Can anyone report to me if flashing the new 18.1 directly over the previous version of 18.1 works?
I would test myself, but right now I cant afford to need to totally reset my phone if it doesn't work.

All I can say dirty flashing works well over the latest/previous 17.1 by Flamefire, which in turn works well over the latest modpunk (1.7). So it's worth a try.
More generally, although these ROMs are hardly as well tested as HavocOS, there are satisfied reports over on the original LOS17.1/18.1 thread.

Dirty flash from 17.1 to 18.1 and all work fine!

Exactly. Just not the other way around.
Updated with the July security patches.
Note: AndroidFileHost was quite quirky today, so use the md5sum files to verify the integrity of the files
Dirty flash. Work perfect!

Thanks. Tried it for a couple of hours - dirty flashed over the 0702 version - and it works just as well so far.
I had one brief moment of panic: upon first boot the phone was stuck right on hitting the desktop for some 10 seconds (did not happen on the many previous dirty flashes); but then everything proceeded well.
Again, great work.
@Flamefire Regarding the information to TWRP: There is an official TWRP version (maintained by @modpunk & @derf elot ): https://twrp.me/sony/sonyxperiaxz1compact.html
Maybe you can update the information in your header.

Your suggestion would be valuable if you share your experience:
- encrypted partition mount and decryption compatibility with LineageOS 17.1/18.1
- partition backup / restore - single / batch - with / without password protection
- other version differential bug report
Im running 18.1 ROM now and its working great. It works so much better than the previous January release, because the network connects properly now after restarting. There is no need to fiddle in the settings to switch to 3G, then switch back to 4G.
I really like it.
Ok, I was bored and I made a mess, I could use some help.
I was on the latest and last 17.1 by modpunk. I updated TWRP to the latest official one. I tried to flash the latest 18.1 by Flamefire (I had to disable zip signature verification. I know ). Upon reboot it spends about a minute on the LOS animated logo then reboots to TWRP. I then downgraded TWRP to the latest by modpunk and flashed his latest 18.1 from January. This bootloops to recovery without ever reaching the LOS logo.
I know this is my fault. This said, what's my best chance (if any) not to have to wipe everything? I read in a post above that downgrading from 18.1 to 17.1 won't work, otherwise that would be my next idea.
Thanks in advance to anyone replying!
EDIT: Silly me. I had just forgotten to flash 11.0 gApps. All is well with the dirtiest flash ever.
It was not possible to boot LOS 17.1 with TWRP version from first post. (fresh flash, etc... ) However when using latest official twrp https://twrp.me/sony/sonyxperiaxz1compact.html everything works well.
OUTSTANDING!
Thanks for bringing life to this amazing work, you are the best!
Much appreciated.
@Flamefire
Im confused so u continue with updating the security patches every month correct ?
Im confused about the 18.1 u also only update it with securitypatches or also other stuf like making stable and fixing problems orwhatnot ?
Thank you for keeping our trusty xz1 compact alive a little longer.

Does it respond to volume up button presses and in special system restart recovery mode? Prompts for a pin/pattern during login and successfully mount and decrypt the partition? So far no one else has reported using it and so far we knew 17.1 / 18.1 requires a different version. Your experience will help us a lot please share as much experience as possible about the new twrp.

i forgot to mention - i'm using lineage-17.1-20210702-UNOFFICIAL-lilac.zip build (not the latest ..20210720..)
TWRP version 3.5.2_9.0
Magisk 20.4 -> 23
Entering recovery works well, pwr+vol down, vol up after pwr, or when set in Developer submenu - advanced reboot. I have active pin and fingerprint. When entering recovery, twrp asks for password for user 0, using my pin works and twrp decrypts FBE. i can mount and read user data by File Manager in twrp.
