Can a custom ROM prevent Samsung remotely killing or hobbling Note 7? - Note 7 Questions & Answers

Hi,
If I install a custom ROM on my note 7, will this prevent the phone being remotely disabled or hobbled by Samsung?
I remember that, with my original Note 7, when the update that limited battery life came through there was no way of preventing it.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Gary

I think that it depends on how and if Samsung plans to disable the phones.
If they just do it through software updates to restrict or disable then the updates can be blocked.
But if Samsung decides to have the carriers blacklist the imei then that can't be prevented by blocking software updates.
Only way around that would be to change the imei. But that is a whole different can of worms. Also illegal.
And yes the update on the original note 7 was preventable. I'm still using mine without the battery restrictions. App used was package disabler pro.

Ah, thanks for the heads up! I didn't even know what an IMEI was until you mentioned it.
If I was to simply use my Note 7 as tablet (i.e. not even putting a SIM in it), would there be anyway for Samsung or my carrier to detect that I still had possession of the phone? Even without a SIM you can still make emergency calls so I presume the phone is still connected to a mobile network.

Also, could you elaborate on how to use package disabler pro to prevent updates? I have installed it and can see a list of packages that can be disabled but not sure which one to disable in order to prevent updates.

[Q] Phone has been hacked , bluetooth.. How do I Stop it?

Hello:
My galaxy nexus has been rooted I think and the person who enters my network use an apple device to block the signal.
It seems that someone has been able to root the phone. I would Luke to know if there is a way to with block the hacker or some other defensive method.
Regards,
*Mike
I don't really understand the problem as you've described it, but just wipe and reflash.
I have no idea what you just said...

If u didn't root your phone and you bought it new then it isn't rooted. If somebody is gaining access to your network make sure the encryption is set to wpa2. Never use wep or u might as well not use any encryption as anyone that knows anything will crack it in under 10 min.

make yourself a hat out of tin foil, then another matching tin foil hat for your device. that should prevent any alien apple users from gaining access to you or your device.
I don't see why users have the urge to make fun of the person or the topic, it may not be important to you but it sure is to the guy asking.
There are firewall software available in the market that you can try out.
There are security apps too, search and you should see a list.
Also factory reset the phone and see what happens and as already said, set your home Wi-Fi to wpa2
Cheers

SPD Clien update

A couple of days ago, a notification to update SPDClient appeared in Galaxy App Store (Samsung Apps). But what is this app for, and what does the update do? The descriptions does not show any relevant information and there are many comments asking what does this app do.
Does anyone know about this app?

It tells you in the app description what it is.

I also got that and was little afraid of updating, worrying if Samsung trying to sneak some security update for Knox, or root discovery etc.(I'm stock rooted). But it seems to be internal driver related to data exchange over networks, possibly updated due to new hardware like VR or S-watch. I updated it now, so in case I buy Samsung watch or some other new hardware in near future, I won't go crazy wondering why it doesn't work, since once you decline the update, usually doesn't come back anymore.

Anyone else get the AT&T update?

My phone just got a notification that it was downloading a software update from AT&T. It then asked me to restart and now it's 50% done updating.
Just wondering what the update does? Anyone know?
Got the notification, haven't done it

Same here. Have no idea what it is. I'm coming up empty on Google too.
Yup, installed earlier, only thing I have noticed is the stagefright fix.

178 apps were "optimized" on restart. Can't see or feel anything different.

Apps are always optimized after an update.

The apps that are impacted by the update are. 178's a pretty low number but the update was only 80(ish)MB. Going from 4.X to 5.X my Note 12 optimized 600+ apps on restart. Services are considered apps too. Right after I rebooted Play Services updated itself too. To 8.1.15.

It's an app, here is what you would have seen before the update
Got mine too. Updated and poked around the settings and features to see if Samsung added anything that they removed from the Note 4. Nothing so far.
I also checked to see if the aggressive task killing stopped. I'm getting a consistent 6 apps staying loaded after some tests, previously it was four or five depending on whats open. Anyone else notice this?
I just updated and Googled idk.
There's a thread in the general section. Looks like the update fixed the wireless charging issue many of us were having as well as improving performance a bit.

I just updated my T-Mobile Tab s4 to Pie. I was hoping the Tab S5e message and calling feature would come to this tablet. Well, it did, but is blocked. It is baked into the Pie update and alive on the tablet (see screenshot), i just cannot access it. Any savvy geniuses out there want to get this figured out?
Any luck?
Could you flash an international ROM possibly? I'm not sure exactly what would be compatible or not.
I have a SMT835N and recently tried a Sprint ROM and Phone ability was removed. I am wondering if the same limitation is applied across US carriers and if that limitation is not present in international versions.
Hi. Your post doesn't show any screenshot. How do I get there? I have the Wi-Fi version.

Call and message continuity (as far as I know) didn't get added to the S4. Maybe for the LTE versions, but my US wifi model doesn't even have the option. Can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing?
I'm not seeing it on my T-Mobile S4 at all...
My UK Wifi Tab S4 got Continuity with the Pie update, but I was only able to use it when my S10+ received an update this week.
Screenshots?
My tab s4 does not have call option with any update
I found something potentially interesting. I'm not sure about the inner workings of Call and Message Continuity, but it seems like it might be an apk? There is an app with that name on apkmirror. I downloaded and tried to install it but it just says install failed..... If that's all that's needed maybe it needs to be a system app?

Galaxy Watch SM-R800 battery drain

Goodmorning everyone,
I open this thread today after several days of useless attempts to solve the battery drain problem of my smartwatch.
Premise, I don't know exactly what could have caused this problem of mine but from one day to the other instead of lasting 4 days, the battery now lasts about 20h.
Below I will list all the tests carried out.
1) Flashed different firmware.
2) Changed the battery.
3) Revoke all permission for all sensors.
4) Put the smartwatch in airplane mode.
5) Factory data reset several times.
moreover, when I go to the Galaxy Wearable app, I see this battery usage which obviously does not coincide with the real one.

Hey, since you have experience flashing this watch, can you help me?
Can I downgrade from tizen 5.5 to tizen 4 with no issue?
Do I still need to use the csc file from the 3 file zip in netodin if not changing region, do I need to make sure to use a correct one or make modifications to the file to match my current csc or this doesnt matter?
