galaxy S5 LTE-A frame replacement - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi, I just registered to this XDA site, and I'm loving it.
Anyway, I'm thinking of replacing my phone's frame cause the old one got scratched a lot and I don't like it.
Q1. Do you think I would be able to swap out the mid-frame without breaking the LCD and needing to buy a new one? And is a Glass for the LCD and digitizer a must have for frame replacements?
Btw, I have quite a bit of experiences on desktop PCs and laptops along with most other bigger electronics, and I am pretty well informed about what I'm doing cause I really spend a lot of time searching the web and watching other people do these stuff.
Q2. What do you think of buying phone parts from ebay? I use ebay often but not phone parts and when I use ebay, I mostly end up with products that really don't seem to be high quality. Like would the frame that I can find on ebay as low as 3~4$ really be OEM products and if it's not, would the speakers or audio jacks included in the frame be high quality??(I can't use Amazon since I live nowhere near the US or Canada)
Q3. My S5 is a LTE-A model with QHD display 3GB of ram instead of 2 and different CPUs and generally, a little different in terms of specs. Would the frame be compatable with my version?? And are there any ways to check whether other components are compatable too??

[Q] Screen replacement

I recently dropped my Nexus 7 and the screen cracked. The touch is also almost unusable (all glitchy).
I have the tools needed to replace the screen, and I have done it on a few smartphones in the past. My question is : what is the difference on eBay between 90$ screens from the US vs 39$ screens from Hong Kong? Is it the same screen, but just cheaper in HK because it's from the supplier directly (or almost)?

Hard to say, generally you get what you pay for, I have read about people who paid for ones from cheaper venues and they turn out to be either for the older N7, or are just right out fake, at least with ebay you have some protection. YMMV.
The cheap ones from oversea at least for the cell phones I have bought are super thin and break really easy. As mdamaged said u get what you pay for def applies to replacement digitizers!
This is what you want, period. I've been replacing phone, tablet, laptop screens for 4 years as a full time job.

[Q] Which replacement screen for Z1C?

Hey, my friend's kid broke his Z1C's glass, now it doesnt work properly, so he wants to replace it. Hungarian stores do it for around 100-150 bucks, but I've found some replacement screens on eBay for around $35-40 (with glass and digitzer). Are those low quality ones? Does anyone have any experience with them? I know that my Nexus' cheap replacement screens are not the best choice, that's why I'm asking. Can anyone suggest me any trustable sources with mostly cheap prices? Thanks for any help!
it will work but the quality is a bit lower. for normal user it is ok, for some not.
I would prefer let it change officially and buy something else for kids to play. Moto G for example.

I've bought 3 or 4 from China. They're good where the vendor is reputable. Look at the number of units sold and the ratings. They're around 45USD. Removing the assembly from the frame is doable, but replacing just the digitizer is NOT recommended, as I've tried at least 5 of them from various sellers and none worked properly. Plus the digitizer touches the LCD at several points and without LOCA, would create rainbow spots, which would not affect functionality, but esthetically undesirable. There are guides on how to go this is you Goog. Have fun.
I replaced 2 screens on 2 N7, yes, buy the LCD+digitizer+screen combo. Even then, removing the broken screen from the frame is difficult, the melting point of the glue is very high and on both N7 I melted a little bit the frame...
I bought the 2 combo here:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/181285339236?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
One had a dead pixel after a few days and is kind "yellowish", the other one is as OEM and has better color/white balance, so YMMV.
I think i ll go for the 2 combo. I hope that it will not be yellowish. Thank you for the help!

Actually I have a screen from a bootlooped T-Mobile V20, $50 shipped?
I was wondering the same thing. I bought mine cracked so I'll wanna replace the screen
Witrigs, ETradeSupply are good stops for replacement screens. I've ordered from there over the years from various phone models and their quality is always good.

I'll check them out. Thanks
Update: only ETradeSupply had the right parts. $70.44 for a new screen. I paid $80 for a V20 with a cracked screen. I guess I got lucky too because they said the cameras took glazey pictures and it was blacklisted, but the only problem was the cracked screen. If I get some spending money I'll end up buying it.

Yeah. Grade S+ is always going to be OEM, whereas lower grades like Grade R is always 3rd Party. They're pretty good about disclosing all that and never had a question about it's quality; even when it came to iPhone LCD parts.
I just replaced my screen with one from Witrigs. Worked a charm. Until T-Mob has an LG VX phone for the high speed 5G network, i'm keeping this phone forever.
50 years ago, I dreamed up a system for micro LP's and a tiny vinyl players to carry around a large music collection. Holy S__tballs Batman! I now have a portable device that plays vinyl rips at 24-192 (as well as records it). I can carry around .5Tb and listen through high impedance high phones. Now........I have got a device that does all that AND transmits LDAC audio!

All I need is a bigger battery and a brand new screen and this phone could last me years. I do plan on upgrading to a Oneplus though.
This is a wonderfully easy phone to work on. It's very modular. I had replaced the headphone jack, last year, without issue. The screen and inner frame just slotted in without an issue. I'm rocking the 6600 battery and rubber frame with NFC cut out. This thing is a Beast ever without rooting. I just tried some 150 ohm VE AOE's and rocked my world with the Stones "Fancy Man Blues" 24/192.

My Poor Tab S7+

Tab S7+ Screen destroyed..
Dropped from 3 feet on to carpet and my screen got obliterated, even with high quality case and tempered screen protector. Really bummed.
Going to have it repaired despite the astronomical price they are charging (USD $425). It's a little under the price of a new Tab S7 or thr S7 FE, so I figure since I was going to replace it with an S7 might as well just get it fixed.

There is no damage to the frame and I recall it falling flat on its face. Not once in 10 years have I ever cracked a phone or tablet screen, here we are...
Miraculously everything still works, no dead spots, no dead pixels, fingerprint works.
Ouch. Might be able to find one with a blown mobo to use for parts.
I thought about it but the tablet is so thin, I don't want to risk bending the frame and doing irreparable damage. I've never replaced a screen on something so thin, so I'm worried about that too.

I don't know. I'm comfortable doing the battery and C port PCB, stuff on the top, but a display replacement is much more demanding. Lol, I thought my N10+'s were bad face plant magnets. They only thing they like to do more then corner hit is face plant.
If not for it's Bolt case it be destroyed by now.
If a local repair shop will let you watch them work on the same model, it would show you tricks you need to know. If you have a good repair shop near you that may be another repair alternative for you.
Generally full tear downs are not pretty. ESD is a concern as well as the out of circuit display and mobo are suspectable to ESD damage.
If you use Samsung repair service document everything with pictures including with the display on with a dated newspaper from day of boxing. Double box it and fully insure it.
My level of trust of Samsung is very limited when it comes to repairs.
In the future you may want to consider keeping a tether on it, tethering it to either your neck, chest, waist or hand. I do that with high end cams. B&H Photo has an extensive selection of tethering systems.
Merry Christmas

I called around to all sorts of places, including larger chains and they all told me the same thing. "Samsung has a list of parts they will send us and for phones it's pretty much everything. Tablets, we get very minimal parts and the screen is one we dont." (different word for different places but you get the idea)
@SyCoReaper
Yeah, that's a big problem then. Unfortunately Samsung is the leading and likely the best AMOLED manufacturer. A knock off copy be inferior more than likely.
I would be tempted to just buy a new 256gb/8gb ram one at that price point. Throw in a V30 rated SD card to get any extra memory you need. A V30 card with stream vids and music fine. Lol, that give you a parts queen if you blow the mobo on the new one or you could sell it as is.
If you're still running on Android 10 better stipulate to Samsung not to upgrade it to 11 if you don't want that. Android 11 and 12 will never be on my N10+'s. Android 10 is very similar to 9 on Samsung's. Android 11/12 aren't... not by a long shot; scoped storage is fully active.
Depending on the manufacturing date a new may come with Android 11. Older manufacturer dated ones should have 10.
I was fortunate will the new N10+ I bought 3 months ago as it was loaded with 10 even though it was speced as 9. The manufacturer date is the only reliable way to know for sure on new devices. A little surprise but Samsung implemented the UI very well with their Android 10 version. Setup on both is near identical as is functionality and usability.

Thanks @SyCoREAPER and @blackhawk for the valuable info. I'm still trying to convince myself that I 'need' to upgrade to the S7+ from my S6.
