Anyway to disable this pop up when charging @ lock screen? "Safety Recall Notice"
Anyway to disable this pop up screen when charging @ lock screen? "Safety Recall Notice"
FYI, I don't have root access.

most likely not the same as you will likely never be able to charge to 100%, the only way would be to roll back the firmware to a previous version then block updates if you plan on keeping the phone.

The only way is to change kernel.

Darn recall screen is very annoying. Every time when charging it pops up.

I just noticed, with wireless charging, I'm getting a message saying "irregular charging detected" and it pretty much pauses wireless charging as a result. Regular charging seems to be normal still, with no messages other than the lightning bolt in the battery... weird. No recall messages though (other than a text message from AT&T earlier this morning).
I'm wondering if I should bring it back tonight, or if I can hold out a few more days... ugh, the uncertainty :/ I kind of want to keep it a few more days, I'm hoping for another Samsung promotion, so I can pickup the VR.

backup your data, hard reset and turn off wifi and take out sim card, your rom should go back to normal and then use firewall and package disabler apps.
try not fo fly with the note, although very rare chance of it exploding and vaporising stuff.

I'd like to bring this thread back to life to see if anybody has gotten this recall notice to go away by disabling a package with Package Disabler Pro??
I have two Note 7s...the original I bought on launch day (that I was supposed to ship back) and the replacement Note 7. My replacement Note 7 is perfect...and I have package disabler pro on both to block the forced push updates to cripple my phones. BUT, the original Note 7 has the recall safety notice every time I plug it in, just like the OP. I would like to disable that pop-up. I have tried to disable a few packages, but to no avail.
Anyone?

I'm still using my original N7, and have disabled the updates from the packages disabler pro. Shoot, no updates yet on my N7. Still got the 100% battery. With my fingers crossed. The only thing bugs me is the safety recall popups when charging.
Check the screen shot.

Im going to correct you:
That first update you are talking about is the "green battery" update. If you had the replacement device, that update turns your battery indicator green. If you had the original device (like you do), it adds the warning that I am talking about in my post above and that you are talking about here. That first update wasn't supposed to max your battery at 60%.

Same here. Is there any way of getting rid of that popup?
I'm with Videotron and I flashed AP_N930W8VLU2API3_CL8706648_QB10937043_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT_meta.tar after I got the forced 60% update.
I tried flashing AP_N930W8VLU1APH1_CL8706648_QB10528368_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT_meta.tar but it fails, is this normal?

BTW FOLKS next update knocks us off the networks. They are killing the phone. On phone with escalations depts for sprint and samsung all night 4+ hours and they are basically saying to buy an s7 instead of the note 7 and then buy the new phone if/when it comes out.

Do I keep it or switch it? Need advice

Just bought the G4 on 8/6. I'm going in to return it tomorrow. It gets terribly hot and the finding location icon is constantly flashing. I don't know if I should just swap it for a new G4 or get something else. I know there is a root method but I've heard of it working and causing issues for others. I saw a thread where the My Verizon app was asking for root access. I know you can just freeze it. It stinks that the phone is locked. I'm torn between this phone and the Nexus 6. What would you do?
I'd try finding out what's causing it to get hot; Probably some apps running in the background that don't need to.
Getting root isn't an issue as long as there is a compatible image. What you do with root access could cause issues.
You can disable some of the built-in apps with root (you can do it within FX Explorer + root addon). That should improve performance/increase battery life/reduce heat.
Try using the Cooler app from playstore.

Well honestly, I don't mind that there is no recovery yet. I use root to backup with Titanium, use adblock, and freeze all the Verizon nonsense.

On a side note, I keep leaning towards the G4. I loved the G2. I'm on Verizon and would pick up the VS986. It comes with 10B I think and then it updates to 11A. If I decide to stay with the G4, should I try rooting before upgrading? I'm almost certain that out of the box, it needs a software update.

It will likely come with 610B, so there is definitely an update available.
The first root image released for Verizon was 611A. But I'm pretty sure someone has since released a rooted image for 610B, so you might not need to update.
But I could not get some features (Advanced Calling) working on 610B, until I updated to 611A. So it's possible you would want to update to 611A anyhow.
Honestly, id wait for the nexus and the note 5 coming out. The touch issues along with lg not wanting to unlock bootloader has made everyone frustrated.
I've bought the european version H81510C and the video are plagued with all major side-effects of the rolling shutter. Wobble, skew and warping effects, all around, literally a jello cam very similar to the after effect warp stabilizator, just lot's more unpolished. The top of the phone reach very high temperature by random or just by calling someone and if you launch an app in GL ES 2.0|3.0 ( OPEN GL ES 3.1 + AEP doesn't seems to correctly "work" on this device (missing support of most texture extension:lightmap and such) will try Arm64 build later and/or texture compression), you'll burn your palm. The G4 seems also to discharge or doing something unattended trough the Qi wireless charging antenna tho, cause I feel mine arms becoming insensitive ( physical harm ) after holding it for a while under normal usage (insulating the 2 pin on the backcover does help a little, but, still unpleasant to keep in hand). If I were are able to find the XT1250|XT1225 for less then 350 I would swap it immediatly, nonetheless I'm also debated to return it and wait till september for a replacement, anyhow the NEXUS is a better choice, except for the camera, even a new ZenFone2 updated to the last avaiable version along it's propretary APP is better of this 600 EURO data collector.
update:
By updating to lastest version (or by NOT keeping it in the hands), the overheating issue seems somewhat under control.
About the unpleasant feeling | electric field > magnetic constriction = discharge , I found out mine shell ( backcover + wireless charging antenna ) the white one ( simil-ceramic ) is made by acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) "reinforced" with 10% of glass fiber.
About the LG G4 OPENGL ES 3.1 - it's very slow, it doesn't even make a third of a frame in one second ( other device reach 25-44 FPS ), will try in ASTC..and its better by not much.
--
That's mine experience with LG and I call it night- refund under way, will check the PRO version if one avaiable this year.
The G4 is fine. If it is overheating then there is a rogue app or process killing it. My coworkers Samsung G 5 was chewing through batteries and Exchange services was taking up most of the resources. We default the Email app and setup it up and all is right now.
When I first got my G4 and set it up, initially it got hot as hell downloading apps and settings. I did a factory reset and it has been fine since. It never gets hot anymore. I use GPS and QC 2.0 fast charge while on the phone (I travel for work) and it is fine. The only time I had an issue with heat was when I left it out in the sun while streaming pandora.
I think the issue is something to do with setup. I noticed I had bought mine at a brick and mortar store and the sales guy quickly ran through the setup and skipped a bunch of stuff. I think something was stuck in the background trying to do something. Once I factory reset it and set it up properly, I never had a problem. My friend also ordered a G4 online and had it shipped and she never had a problem.
Just my thoughts.

Actually, it's AOH5, but I haven't figured out the changes yet.
Not sure if it's the fact that my phone was rebooted during the update, but it's very smooth after the update.
Same here. Anyone knows the changelog?? :\
54 packages updated. I didn't get a chance to pull the update. Probably just the stagefright stuff, samsung fixes, and at&t making their preloads more annoying. I don't see anything new popping up at me.
New APK: /system/priv-app/AmazonInstaller_ATT/AmazonInstaller_ATT.apk (this is in addition to the previous amazon shopping apk.)
Mine is rebooting now. ..

Mine's been having issues connecting to and keeping connected to LTE, maybe this fixes it?

I would just Update my friend!
This is going to sound really strange...but can anyone who has updated their phone -and- has a Samsung wireless charging pad that has been unreliable with maintaining a charging status see if it works better now?
I have read others who have Note 5s say that a software update helped fix the problems they were having with their Samsung wireless charging pads so I was wondering if this update helped ATT Note owners.
I'm trying to induce a flashing blue error in my pad right now, but so far I've re-positioned my phone about four times and it's stayed solid blue each time. Kind of frustrating because I just processed a refund for it via Amazon.
May just be my imagination but it seems that my fingerprint reader is a lot quicker and more accurate. I had been having issues since installing a tempered glass screen protector, but now works the first time every time.

Yeah, It's like a complete reversal now. Before I had to struggle to find a position that kept the wireless charger blue (charging) but now I can't seem to get it to switch to flashing blue (not or minimal charging). Very strange. I mean, it's awesome...but I'm still hoping to get some more feedback before I cancel my Amazon refund.

Scored Note 3 on garage sale for $50 what to do next ?

Phone was sold as is, it turned on but the battery was drained completely and died soon after reaching home screen. I took a plunge since price was $50 tempting Washingtons  I was 100% sure something is wrong with this device but **** it i did it. Bought a charger and USB cable on the way home and so far it's charging just fine.
Phone is mostly erased at least manually I think, because somebody left his google account as I can see email in the plays store menu and some apps, or maybe this is all the carrier pre-installed junk I'm looking at ? LOL
I don't have much experience with Samsung devices but it's a SM-N900T model with N900TUVUCNB4 4.4.2. from February 2014 according to this site http://www.galaxynote3update.com/galaxy-note-3-odin-factory-stock-firmware-usa-canada/
My question is do I stay on this Android or do I jump to Lolipop ? Wasn't there some memory issues with 5.0 ? Or maybe Custom builds ?
Your first move is to sell it to me for $5
If I was OP, I would fully charge the phone, do full factory reset and run it few days as is to test if everything works,. Once you start updating, especially custom ROM, things can break and you'll never know if it's software or hardware. If everything works fine, then you could decide for yourself what to do next. My biggest worry would be the phone is blacklisted, since Note 3 in good shape sells for $200-$300.
OK
Phone charged fully I booted it up and after short amount of time it would freeze constantly when bringing up the keyboard (Samsung or google), can't recall which one was first now because I was changing them in settings and nothing helped. Either way it was freezing after typing couple of letters or appear then crash/disappear. All this combined with some crashes from app called Lookout. Google told me to do Volume UP+HOME+POWER and do a factory reset, after that everything works fine now. Changed my sim card and I can place calls with no issues also data works fine but damn there is tons of f***ing poopy preloaded apps in here from Samsung and other garbagio . I think whoever was using this device had no idea what to do with those errors and just stopped using it somewhere around Feb. 2014 because since then basically nothing was updated on it. I'm gonna let it sit for couple of days then probably will upgrade to 5.0 via KIES and maybe replace the battery either way with OEM or maybe something like this ? http://www.amazon.com/Anker-T-Mobile-Compatibility-18-Month-Warranty/dp/B00FF54C8Q/

Actually you can root the phone easily, even without tripping knox on kitkat, once rooted you could freeze or kill on start up most apps that bother you, that's what I do and problem solved, phone runs like a dream.

There is actually an easy way to not worry about the blacklisted issue before you ever buy a phone from someone. You can go to www.swappa.com/esn and check the status of the phone by entering it's IMEI. We buy and resell phones a lot and this is how we check them. You can check up to 10 phones free every 24 hours on the site.

Yeah man, there is an awesome custom ROM out for this phone. I can't remember the name right off hand, but I'm sure you've heard of it. Haha

Actually you can root the phone easily, even without tripping knox on kitkat, once rooted you could freeze or kill on start up most apps that bother you, that's what I do and problem solved, phone runs like a dream.

You can freeze them, but in my opinion if you've gone to the trouble of rooting it, you might as well completely remove the bloatware. If all you do is freeze the apps, they are still there needlessly taking up the internal storage. There are a few lists on here that tells what is safe to remove without fear of messing the phone up.
problem with deleting "bloatware" is two fold: some programs are interdependent and deleting one you don't want may break another you need. Also, I don't know about others, but I changed my mind in the past and reactivated some applications I never thought I'll be using before.
As far as space goes, the whole system uses 4 GB maybe, so you could save 1 GB, if you're aggressive deleting files, probably couple min of 4k video worth. I got 128 GB sd card, problem solved. Maybe different story with Note 5, but that's one of main reasons I never upgraded.
Either way I strongly suggest at least freezing apps and testing before deleting it.

Still been using the device to watch stuff on wifi @ home and **** Can't use it as my daily driver it's just to big :0 anyway the other hidden issue that I found out about it is that the charging port is kinda beaten up especially on the left side. Sometimes you can plug the cable in and it won't charge until you apply little pressure on the connectors left side it's time to do this http://www.amazon.com/Charging-Ribbon-Connector-Samsung-T-Mobile/dp/B00H3DZRXC/

First semi reliable info! Let the countdown begin!
This is when the international versions will begin to receive the update. Look for AT&T (and the other carriers) to hold that update at least 3 to 6 months extra to add their bloat.

Exactly. So we can seriously expect a release date sometime this summer to late summer. That is, IF ATT decides to release the update at all.

Me too!
I'm happy with mine, too. I got so obsessed with flashing Roms on my first 3 galaxies that I finally got burnt out on it. Sure, root would be nice, but I'm fine with the device as is. But I also don't have some of the issues I see other have. I've got no camera problems and I regularly get about 6 hours of screen on time. So, I'm good.

That's quite a broad question but I'll try to give you details. I've disabled anything I don't use or that I know cause battery drain. There are several apps in the app manager that aren't "useable" apps, and they aren't in the app drawer, but cause significant battery drain - disabled without negative results. I switch between touchwiz and Nova Prime launchers (and have noticed no difference in battery drain). I keep things like wifi and Bluetooth disabled if I'm not using them. Auto brightness turned off. I keep location on but only on power saving mode unless I'm traveling out if town.
That's generally it, I guess...

It's a long list. It was easier to just screenshot them. In the bottom two you can see my battery stats. I unplugged this morning around 7:15 AM and I'm down to about 47% after 8 hours and 3.5 hours screen-on time.
Today, I've checked email several times, had several phone calls, plus I've streamed youtube to a chromecast for classes that I teach, and even played a couple games during lunch. I do have lots of other apps I use, too; about 4-5 pages worth in my app drawer. Working well for me.

Hi,
Will it be possible to update my device in another country that there is no AT&T services here. Last time in forum I saw some guys telling to use Kies to update and they said there are some pages but I couldn't find them either.
Can you help me to locate one of these pages, If exists; to be able to update my device automatically ? Everytime I update my device in my country I had to backup everything and put back again which is reallly painfull!

I jumped ship for a Nexus, but sprint is updating its note 4 to 6.0, so the info was accurate.

Kies is one way, but it sometimes takes Kies a while to get the carrier-branded firmwares. (International firmware is almost instant on the other hand).
The fastest 2 ways to get the update would be to
1) use someone's activated ATT sim in your phone. Pop it in, boot up the phone, wait a few minutes for the sim to set itself up with your phone, then check for updates. Then download, install, and then put your original sim back in.
2) Use an Odin file. The only issue with this is that you most likely will have to start from scratch with your apps and settings. Be sure to back everything up first.
You'll also have to wait for the Odin files to be released by someone, but it'll be 100x sooner than Kies.
Edit: The latest 5.1.1 Odin files are in the first post here (you'll need all 4 files in the Dropbox link):

Get a different phone. No one will be working on rooting software on a now seriously dead phone. They will keep making this even more difficult and that will make most folks turn them in.

We will get shut down after the holidays. Verizon just doesn't want to shut it down during the holidays and Samsung is giving the carriers 30 days to push the update. My thoughts anyways.
I still need to go back to the 100% firmware, which I hope to do soon. Would rather wait to see what the Galaxy S8 rolls out since we are only 60-90days away.

If the IMEI is not blocked, and the phone works on VZ networks, then it is not "dead". Just because a phone doesn't get "updates" does not make it dead. I always root and block updates on new phones first thing out - don't want updates, they usually cause more problems than they are worth. The phone will work fine for many years without updates. Who really uses a phone for more than 2 to 3 years at most anyway? For me it is usually one year, then on to the next version. I actually skipped the Note 5 for obvious reasons and stuck with my Note 4 for two years. I put Morom on it first thing I got it after rooting (it was a Dev Note 4) - never took a single update, not a problem. It was set up just the way I wanted, had xposed running and the obvious things one does with Titanium, no need to mess with it. The N7 will work for several years just fine as long as the IMEI is not blocked and a person disables update apk's.

They will get to that point. They will disable the imei. If you keep your note beyond the update that Verizon will roll out after the holidays they will begin to block imei. You don't think so? Why would Samsung push an OTA to disable charging if they didn't mean to eliminate any notes in the field?

I don't know - who actually knows? Is it legal to block an IMEI like that in the US? IDK. We will see. If it happens, it happens. As of now, I have a free N7 I am using. I returned my OG N7 - sent it out friday. I will ride this N7 as long as possible. If I have to make a switch should they IMEI block my N7, I will go back to my Dev N4 until either a worthy updrade is available - either an S8 or Note 8.
As far as why Samsung would push an OTA to disable charging to those daft enough to not have update apk's disabled... well they have to cover their arses, and if they have an OTA that disables a phone, they are not responsible for those owners who have somehow either through root or a package disabler app made their phones immune to OTA's. Will VZ block all N7 IMEI's? Dunno. Hope not. Can't control if they do and if they do, then I will adjust with the option that makes the most sense at that time. Hoping to just ride out my N7 until the N8 is out. Worst case I will get the largest display S8 when it is available. We just don't know what the S8 is gonna be for sure yet, nor what the N8 will be either.
That's certainly one way of doing it.
I have replacement Note 7 from Verizon, PHE firmware, 100% refunded back to Verizon account and refunded back to my credit card, moved to T-Mobile . I blocked OTA update via PDP app. T-Mobile doesn't even recognize my phone.
Because I am at the different network, I don't think my IMEI will be blocked unless Samsung disables my phone's IMEI.
Any thought?

Note 7 update to disable charging coming 12/27

Better learn how to disable updates FAST! Thankfully, I found it on here and it doesn't take Package Disabler Pro to do it.
Randomly had a return box from them left on my porch today. Verizon refunded everything more than a month ago and had sent me an email saying that they had received my return. Now I don't know what to do. Probably just gonna ignore it.

Let them block a phone from powering on and then have somebody die as a result of not being able to call 911. They won't do it.

It's been plastered everywhere for how long to return the phone. If someone were to somehow die cause of it then it's their own damn fault for keeping it.
Tell that to the first person who dies because their phone won't turn on. I don't get some peoples' anger towards those who kept their note 7. Ok you couldnt get one ir you returnedyours. I bet you buy lottery tickets too.
It's still called a voluntary recall, I'm not sure how they're getting away with taking phones against the will of their customers. I'm comfortable with the odds of my phone catching fire. Sent from said phone and I'm still alive. No one got hurt.

Yeah, because an exploding phone on your face or burning your house down will always allow you to dial 911. Why would they not stop such a device from dialing 911, if it could be the cause for someone to have to dial 911???
Verizon has now issued the email to Note 7 users that they will be sending the update on January 5, 2017 to disable charging capability. Better use Debloat Tool and disable the lines that poll for updates.
