Native Camera Support RAW Capture? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

The key reason why I'm interested in getting this phone is the potentially amazing camera. So I'm wondering if the Pixel's native camera app supports RAW capture? If it can't then that might be a deal breaker. If anyone knows anything about this please help, thanks!

That is something I've been trying to figure out as well. I think I'll miss Samsung's Pro mode and I guess I'll find out about the camera Friday
Sent from my SM-N930V using Tapatalk

Yeah it'll be a deal breaker for me if it can't shoot RAW and manually adjust ISO / shutter speed.
If it turns out it's supported I'll go ahead and get the Pixel XL, if not then I'll just wait for the Galaxy S8.

I know of that app and hate it (very buggy), I want RAW support from the native camera. If it doesn't support it natively like the Galaxy S7's camera app then I'll be skipping the Pixel.
Google is touting how awesome the camera on the Pixel is, but what's the point if the native camera app can't even do something as basic as RAW capture LOL.

Oh come on, I realize you want RAW, but many (I would venture to say most) people could care less about RAW support.
I hope it has it too, but I won't call it a failure if it doesn't.

If you want good quality pictures, use an actual camera and not a phone, lol.

Well I use that app, it works quite well, and it supports RAW output... it's what you asked for...

No that's not what I asked for, I was asking if anyone knew if the NATIVE app supports RAW but I guess it doesn't. Thanks for the help though, guess I'll just wait for the Galaxy S8.

Saw this earlier but doesn't appear to have it in the native camera app. https://youtu.be/ovQq9b0uCM8

I think if you're going to pass on a phone for that reason you didn't want a phone you wanted a camera. You can get the same thing using the app. You're just being obstinate. Good luck.

Who knows, maybe down the line I'll give in and get one used lol.

I saw a phone review where it said you had two options on the pixel in the native app--jpeg or jpeg + raw.

There are only two reasons someone would need this......well in reality just one. All other reasons are BS.

new here... found this forum googling this Droid photo attachment. figured id share.

so yah...
cool forum... love my droid Galaxy S3 and my Galaxy tablet.
I was googling this photo attachment product i saw on gizmag.com called Mobi-Lens and i found a couple of posts on this site about it so i thought id share it.
Us Android users dont get much gadgets/photo-accessories... this seems legit, even if you own an different manufacturer then Samsung, im sure it will work.
I got a red combo $60, beats my friends $80 olliclip for his iPhone... PLUS he has to remove his case every time AND only use the back side camera... SUCKER haha.
Now i dont have to lug around my DSLR when i go hiking or biking for some nice scenic photos.
just search mobi-lens on kickstarter.com or google it.
Welcome! Ya this is one of the best if not the best forum for all things mobile specially Androids!
I checked the item you speak off before and its cool however ill wait till it goes onto production as it is still under kickstarter phase.
Nevertheless our S3s have some amazing camera options, just wish it had SlowMotion video i myself had a One S after my S2 before I had my S3 and that was the only reason I miss the one s lol

Won't happen.
You need at least 3 shots to make a HDR image and they usually look like a vomit of colours.
The more shots of different exposures the better of course.
Guys, I hear a person in Android Central saying that we can decompile the GalleryGoogle.apk, find res/values/strings.xml and change
<string name="pref_camera_hdr_default">@string/setting_off_value</string> to
<string name="pref_camera_hdr_default">@string/setting_on_value</string> to enable the HDR, I try it, but I can not recompile it back so I can't see if this works.

I just bought this phone and I was wondering the same thing, it shouldn't be that difficult. There are third party apps that already do this in every phone so it must be a software thing. I have no idea of developing so this is just my opinion based on common sense and complete ignorance of the matter.

Hardware mod s4 13mp cam into s3 ..May be possible

It may very well be possible to actually disassemble the s4 camera sacrifice it into the s3 motherboard I might attempt to find a extra camera 40 s for online and try this only because the physical aspects of the cameras and design haven't really changed and I remember in old mod that was done on the T Mobile vibrant using AT&T model you could actually put the AT&T front camera into the samsung vibrant giving the vibrant a front cam
Anyone have opinions on this being done might need a software change if the physical cams swap over, I'm sure it will be a good amount of time before the camera alone becomes available online to purchase somewhere
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Remember you'll need the appropriate drivers just like the vibrant with the international FFC. It could be possible but I doubt it. I haven't looked into this though so don't quote me.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Ya I know but its a very relevant possibility this could work...biggest issue id see is finding the camera sold as a stand alone piece .
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
You think the the hardware of the camera is the same? If I remember the vibrant had the hold for it but in this case would like to know if the housing of the s4 camera is the same for the s3.

I just checked the pin-count on the S4 and S3 camera modules, and they are identical. Looks like they could fit, except that the flexcable is in the wrong place. This is something that might be possible to fix, though.
If I could get the module to fit physically, would it (in theory) be possible to use S4 camera module drivers for the S3?

Agreed! And if you are a photography enthusiast or professional, Im willing to bet you have a camera that no smartphone can match anyway! Plus the risk involved vs the cost of the hardware just makes this impractical, to me anyway!
But then there is also something else to consider. The S4 is already on 4.2.2. I seriously doubt the camera modules, let alone the SamsungCamera.apk, would work at all on our phones which are still only at 4.1.2.
After we get our update, this point may become redundant, but I do not think it would be possible right now.
I've also heard that it may be possible to mod the battery from the S4 to the S3. Think of the possibilities!
To be honest it doesn't seem worth it to try. If you mess something up you'll pay big time, and the quality isn't that much of a difference unless you're obsessed with photography. It just seems impractical to me. And there's no guarantee it'll work just because it worked on an other Samsung phone.
Just pointing that out. But you guys can do whatever you want just don't come crying to me when you break something.
I would just wait for the s5 or get an s4. Right now I'm more than happy with my AT&T S3.

No, the only people that are going to do this mod are people that are impressed by numbers and can not leave their phone well enough alone.
No serious photographer is going to use their cell phone camera, no less care about 8 to 13 MP. Its like sac religious.
Here just buy this Nokia 1020 with 41mp camera that is coming out in a couple weeks it spits out a 5mp copy with each hi-res pic taken for sharing......Only $299 with 2 year contract >>> http://i.nokia.com/blob/view/-/2723846/data/1/-/Lumia1020-whitepaper.pdf
I mean, that's the point of XDA. We love numbers and performance. We love tweaking and enhancing. If anything, if we weren't we'd all be iOS users by now.

Problem with depositing checks with camera

For the last 2 years, I have used online banking to deposit checks via photo. Never a problem with my Nexus, my S3, my wife's iPhone, but for some stupid reason, I can't deposit checks with this phone. It keeps saying, please make sure picture is in focus and within the lines. I have tried in all kinds of light, including light that is designed for taking pictures w/out shadows.
It's sad and somewhat embarrassing when I have to borrow my wifes iPhone to deposit checks.
