Using AT&T sim card on Verizon Pixel will stop system updates ,etc ? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Im desperate to get rid of my AT&T Note 7 and got approved for a Best Buy credit card tonight . Can buy the Verizon version Thursday ,however several things scare me ....
1) using another carrier sim will stop the phone getting all software updates ?
2) I don't want anything with Verizon on the phone , rumor has it only has 3 apps from Verizon is uninstallable. Is this it ?
3)AT&T LTE , should still work like an AT&T phone ?
I will look carefully at the display model before making my purchase . If anyone has any input would help ,thank you .

I work for Verizon and all our phones (newer) are unlocked. Updates won't be blocked and the three apps can be uninstalled. Only thing is the phone has to start with a Verizon SIM card to get activated. After that you can put in a att sim and everything will work just fine. Enjoy your pixel, I know I will.

Sorry 2 more questions , and thank you for this info .
1)do you think at&t hd (VoltE) voice will work with it ?
2)heard that the phone will constantly try to look for CDMA network and could cause problems (battery) . AT&T is GSM network . Is this true ?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T817A using Tapatalk

No, it should the same as if you've bought it from the google store. All Verizon iPhones function the same as if you bought it from Apple. Should hold true for google pixels as well. I'm basing this on history and not fact. Just keep your reciept. You'll have plenty of time to make sure everything works.

I read somewhere that the 3 apps install based on the Sim you start with. Meaning, on first boot if you have a Verizon Sim you'll get those 3 apps. If you start with att you won't get any auto installed apps. I don't remember where I read this last week but I do know that was the trick to not having bloat on the nexus 6 from Verizon. The pixel is unlocked (not bootloader unlocked from what I hear) so it should work on any carrier without issues. It has the radios to do so.

This is how the nexus was. I'm hoping the pixel is the same.

Simple Mobile & Samsung Galaxy S3

Hello Guys,
Strange problem here, I am a simple mobile customer, using a Samsung Galaxy S3 ( Unlocked , rooted and have custom rom ). The phone was working perfect until 8 am yesterday! I didnt do any changes , all of a sudden the phone will not register to the Simple network.
However, the sim works fine with an S2! AT&T sim works fine with my S3 also! So i can't figure out what the problem is !!!
Thanks,
Joe.

Simple mobile user here. Works fine for me. maybe restart phone? check the network setting, maybe it routed to different carrier.
Might be blacklisted? Try to do a complete wipe and reinstall the system.

Sounds like it was blacklisted.
I was wondering if blacklists apply to MVNOs. Like the case in point, will a phone blocked on T-Mobile work on Simple Mobile even though Simple uses Tmobile network.
As of 31 October 2012, the U.S. Cellular Providers are sharing IMEI/ESN data to ensure that phones blacklisted on one carrier CANNOT be activated on another carrier. T-Mobile and AT&T are also tied into the international GSM IMEI Blacklist Database to ensure that phones blacklisted overseas cannot be activated in the U.S. and vice-versa.

Is there anyway to protect yourself while buying a used phone off of ebay/craigslist to make sure the phone is not reported stolen later?
Thanks
Meet them at a service store if using craigslist for a rep to check the status.

Sounds like the imei is blacklisted likely stolen phone. I always buy phones online and ask that they have the original box so I can avoid this.
The phone was bought new though! I have the box and everything and it did work on simple mobile for about month and a half! the phone is rooted and flashed multiple roms but no luck!

Go into settings and see if the imei still shows up? Sometimes the IMEI is lost while flashing roms. This would not allow the phone to get service. Was this after you flashed a rom?
I'm having the same problem! Except it stopped working around Friday which was December 14th. I've tried to troubleshoot this myself and the only thing I can come up with is that it's because I unlocked my phone. I got this phone brand new mid october and I've been using simple mobile with it since. Then last week I used that free unlock for Galaxy S3's and Note 2's via dialing the code in and going to the the network lock and switching it off. Last Tuesday, I tested it with an AT&T sim to confirm it was unlocked as I needed it for use in Japan and it worked fine. Then it suddenly stopped working last Friday.
Here are the things I've done:
1) Attempted to use a T-Mobile/AT&T SIM in my phone to confirm that my phone works and isn't "blacklisted" I've called and texted with those sims.
2) I put my simple mobile SIM into another T999 Galaxy S3 and it worked fine without setting up APN settings. I received my texts and voicemails as soon as the SIM was in. The only difference between my phone and that phone is that I unlocked mine and my friend left his locked It was the same model phone, the T999 T-Mobile version of the S3.
3) I've called up CS for Simple Mobile and they've went through all their "troubleshooting tools" and even called up their tech support with T-Mobile to confirm that my phone is getting coverage. The interesting thing that they kept telling me that is on their system and T-Mobile's systems, they see my phone as connected and idling which means I should be getting service.
4 and 5) I've factory reset my phone and bought a new sim card and did a sim swap and still no go.
And yes, if I type *#06#, I get my IMEI so I don't think my IMEI is "lost" unless there is another way to check. I've looked elsewhere for the solution and this is the only post where I found someone having the same exact problem as me.
The method I used for the unlock is this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34661189&postcount=1
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Phone probably blacklisted. Go to check esn free website. On the dropdown box look for the blacklisted imei and enter yours to see if it is in their system. You can also try calling T-Mobile.

Isis impossible on unlocked Verizon GN-3 phone ??

Long story short I bought a phone via verizon galaxy note 3 on black friday cuz it was hella cheap compared to tmobile or att
I also have the new isis enhanced sim cards for the verizon galaxy note 3
i tried to sideload verizon version of isis ... didn't work , same thing with the tmobile version.
Anyone have any ideas ???
ALSO I'm running stock rom, I'd rather not root at all if possible.

GN3 is still an unsupported ISIS device as of yet according to internets, however its listed as a ISIS enabled device. It shouldn't be too long though considering they are shipped with isis enabled simcards anyway before its at stabilized. ISIS asks for root, I deny it or accept root request...it just crashes or gives root error saying you cant use it while rooted. if you root you WILL lose ISIS support entirely then! (yay?)
playing the waiting game !?
i guess i'll miss out on promos then bah
ISIS works fine on the GN3 sm-900t, (this IS the tmobile forum) and will work with root too if you block the app from checking for root (Xprivacy with Exposed Framework, prevent shell access)
May not work with VZW version though.

should i just return my verizon galaxy note 3 ?
seems the tmobile app with tmobile sim card won't work with verizon galaxy note 3

If the vzw SIM card does not have the ISIS symbol or name on it, it will not work. But since you got such a great deal, you should keep it.

On stock , I dont see any version of isis on google play even if I go directly.
When I did download a purple icon version of isis it says the sim doesn't have the secure element blah blah blah
Since i updated OTA , it seems if I do have to root that i'd have to use kingo but after what I read about poor security problems and issues, Id rather wait till chainfire or someone reputable comes out with a solution.

Verizon has done an OTA on their model of GN3, but there has been NO OTA for the SM-900T from Tmobile as of yet. Seems strange that you would have gotten an OTA while connected to TMobile for something the have not updated.
I'm guessing you just have a combination that isn't supported.

WoW it shouldn't. I work for T-Mo as a RSA and everyone in my store that has rooted their phone. Not just the Note 3, when you go to load the app it says unable to load because phone is rooted. What are you doing to bypass the root check for it? maybe it has something to do with the fact that you are still 0x0 which i see you have in your sig. I am 0x1 since i could care less about about. Only thing is that it doesn't work on every HTC One that I have seen rooted as well. Same goes for the GS4 and the LG G2.
getting back to my original post ....
I can't be the only one with a mixed phone.
Unlocked gn3 from verizon using isis sim from tmobile
I'm sure very few people bought a VZW phone AND are using it on T-Mobile AND use XDA newsgroups AND have tried ISIS. You are talking about a very short list of people.

on what carrier you are planing to use it? You cannot use sprint Galaxy note 4 on domestic GSM carriers like AT&T, T-mobile and their MVNOs (Straighttalk , etc). The phone can be unlocked for international GSM use (voice and 3G only, not LTE). Internationla unlock can be done officially through Sprint or unofficially via app in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...print-samsung-unlocker-unlock-sprint-t2928250
My question is how did you come across a Sprint Note 4? Did you not do your homework before acquiring the Sprint Note 4? Maybe you somehow got the phone for free? Why would somebody actually pay for a nice phone (released only a month or so ago) without knowing if it will work on a completely different network/carrier... then turn around and look for help on how to activate it on a GSM carrier? This makes no sense to me.
Im curious too.
Can a Sprint phone be unlocked and set up for use on ANY other carrier in the USA,
ie: Verizon?
No no no

I am pretty sure that if the phone had a clean ESN that you can activate it on Ting Mobile. I have also saw a thread where someone had flashed a T-Mobile Rom to the Sprint note 4 but they where not getting LTE of course I'm sure in time someone will come out with something stable.

Off topic here.
I came up for upgrade in June. I was gonna go Nexus 5 and then the Nexus 6 rumors started to fly. So I waited and along came the Note 4. After much research I ended up with arguably the best phone on the planet. Imo it is.
Unlock Code
I am in Canada, got this as xmas gift from my father in law
You can root and try Galaxy Tools 4 root users https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idone.galaxymenu
Or you can use this app from the S5 thread you don't need root with this app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2928250
Hope this helps a little

1. No
2. Customers can switch devices by calling on a different phone to CS or going into store and switch devices, no unlocking necessary.
3. Just switch Sim cards and edit and tweak where necessary or pay someone if you dont know how.
4. Correct, but no unlocking necessary.
5. That depends on the person.
Thank you for your answers

Yes yes yes it can be used with other carriers in the USA. Are people forgetting about flashing of modems and firmware. What decade are we in 1960? Our maybe 1950 when phone were still two way radios. Remember sprint can't stop everything Samsung does in making their phone. Ask the right questions to right people get right answer. If someone in XDA hasn't figured it out yet just wait & keep on looking. XDA is also not the only place to look for answers to everything Samsung, sometimes Samsung is were to look or Samsung blogs. All I hear is everyone that talks about Samsung first thing everyone says is it CAN'T be done. When are the tech, crackers, & hackers of this world going to stop saying everything is impossible & realize we are the ones that make everything possible. If we are going to do that why do we become techs or crackers or hackers or even developers in the every first place?.... LET'S STOP PUTTING LIMITS ON OU OURSELVES & SHOW SPRING WHAT WE CAN DO! Sprint is not GODZ. We created what sprint & Every carrier in the world uses to try to put limitations one everyone with. Are we going to let the carriers use or phones against us or are we going to use them the way the phone manufactures wanted the phones to be used ( without restrictions of the carriers of the world.)
after unlocking your sprint device you can only use it with carriers outside the USA. If you are planning to use it with local sim cards after unlocking like at&t and t-mobile (gsm) then you cannot.

Umm if its not under payments u can
Yep once the phone is paid for per new laws that went active in Feb or March if you ask the carrier to domestic unlock your phone they are required to do it by law. Some models this will not be possible but the note 4 should. I think the carriers have a grace period to make this available. Not sure how long. I could quote the legislation but Id have to search for it.

B to the S. If you can unlock a 720t a note 4 can be unlocked!! Period!! It picks up signal just no antenna for that signal because the phone antenna is tuned in the wrong station or radius degree. I think if the people who can unlock 720t s can try the same methods with busy box or Verizon modems. Like guy said earlier " Si se puede"!! It can be done!! Just need to tweak frequency angles and remove face security options a little.
By law you can have it unlocked for a limited time, but that will not make the LTE radio magically work on your carriers band unless they support the same band. Or unless you know someone who can JTAG flash the radio to another carrier as well you will not be able to use the LTE/DATA band on a carrier that does not support the frequency. This is nothing something that can be done over USB or by a new kernel. This will have to be done with JTAG and by someone who has access to the various carriers radio firmware which is tightly guarded. So basically you will be using a Note 4 on 3G only. Might as well just sign up with SPRINT then, you will get the same service speed.

Can the bootloader on an Unlocked att Note 4 be unlocked

Hi,
I know there is no way to unlock the bootloader on an att Note 4, but if ATT unlocks it would it become an International Version and can the bootloader be unlocked? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

(In all realness, no of course not. ATT ain't that nice nor will it ever be. You can unlock the phone in terms of cellular network but that's it.)

Well, I just sent a return request for one of the note 4's. AND just bought a USED sm910T from ebay.
So, instead of me getting a brand new AT&T UNMODDABLE note 4, I will be getting a used but in great condition T-Mobile note 4.
And if I can get out of the restocking fees from the return, I will come out 50 bucks ahead. Cool.
The other new note 4 went to my daughter for xmas, and she already broke the screen. DOH!!
I lucked out this time I guess.
Cheers all.

Yeah man, I'ved used At&t for years. Some phones still ended up rooting and unlocked (Sky-Rocket, LG E970, and Note II) this is the 1st phone I purchased that couldn't be rooted to install ROMs and Mods. Very annoyed but glad to know after this experience we know not to buy from At&t directly. Either buy unlocked form Swappa, eBay or Amazon or know that you will be limited when you buy from carrier. In the mean time if you really want out, pay the bill so its clear for selling, and sell it online or in person. Also you can wait it out until the next upgrade.

Never again for me, not directly from AT&T & maybe not Samsung. [AT&T-Captivate, and VZ-Note2..rooted and other ROM'd but now ]. Question: what aspect of the hardware allows a carrier's specific bands of LTE to function? Or is it that the hardware is fully "plastic", capable of any LTE banding given the software[albeit locked] and SIM[mine unlocked] ? There are multiple Note4's. AT&Ts also runs UMTS and GSM. T's? Verizon's also runs its EV-DO. Perhaps these 2G, and 3G aspects become irrelevant and the 4G/LTE buildout completes, but the question remains over capability on carrier specific LTE bands.
With my SIM unlocked Note4 I used a VODA SIM this summer in Italy, but don't recall whether I had access to LTE , or evn which data mode functioned.
Ok, I hope I don't get in trouble for asking this here. . I tried to search but I'm not real good on this phone yet. . That's no excuse, I know. ..
Anyway, I received my T-Mobile Note 4 today and I want to root it right away as I am an owner of titanium backup and rom toolbox.
I am wondering if there is an easy way to root my device without installing a custom kernel AND not require a pc?
If I have to use a custom kernel, which one is the most stable?
My device specs are
SM-N910T3
Android 5.1.1
LMY47X.N910T3UVU1DOK2
KNOX 2.4.1
I have data turned off on my phone and disabled data from my carrier. I use WiFi and no data. .
Again I'm sorry for asking this but it's been a real long time since I have installed custom anything and my pc blue screens randomly so I'm afraid to try rooting my phone that way.
Please, step by step, easy tutorial or a link to where I need to go?
Thanks a bunch.

http s://www .youtube.com/watch?v=gpVocvREboo&list=UURAxVOVt3sasdcxW343eg_A&app=desktop
[email protected] the space. Ironically....yeah i will remove the space so you can suffer clicking on the link on your phone...
Since we are on the subject of bootloaders. It's been a while since I flashed a custom rom on a phone. But from what I remember, isn't the bootloader these pictures that I attached? I took pictures on my AT&T Note 4.
Thanks
Yes i have read the whole thing.
Ok, to cut a long story short;
i bought a note 4 on an online australian shop for $470 (really hard without a job)
Anyway, they noted that their phones are from GENUINE Suppliers and i got a Note 4 UNLOCKED from, you guessed it. AT&T.
Now i wasnt too fussed. I was happy i got a note 4 that wasnt a chinese brick phone, since it technically was refurbished from their Hong Kong Warehouse. Anyways
After like...idk 2 months? approx? i decided i wanna root it. Guess what?! BOOTLOADER. WHAT THE ***T!!
Anyway, i spoke to some people, one said he hasnt rooted a phone passed gen 6. and the other person said 'no cant root. Bootloader is locked and no way to bypass.'
Soo im wondering if its possible to root the phone without removing bootloader? I dont restart my phone much and the whole bootloader doesnt worry me so im just curious if i can chuck a stock rom on without worrying about the bootloader.
Some background info:
I am Australian, therefore my phone is running under Australian networks (Boost, Lyca, Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, etc)
It is filled with unwanted, unnecessary AT&T bloatware.

No root or bootloader unlock yet or maybe ever....u can disable all the att stuff but not remove completely without root. At least it will cleanup ure app drawer a lil.
AT&T note 4 update?
I'm seeing the most recent updates being in 2016. Is there any new updates on the progress of unlocking bootloader for this device?

Hi,
I know there is no way to unlock the bootloader on an att Note 4, but if ATT unlocks it would it become an International Version and can the bootloader be unlocked? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Ripping encrypted DVDs (or DVDs locked to a region) = unlocked
PlayStation 3 = reverse engineered
iPhone = jailbroken
Why isn't the AT&T Note4 unlocked yet? Would offering a bounty help? Is it impossible to unlock? Is it a matter of time? Is it a matter of throwing lots of computation power against the lock?
What will finally get the AT&T Note4 unlocked?

With that, the ATT Note 4 may very well be, the most secure mobile phone ever!

Is there no bounty offered? If each ATT Note4 owner chips in a few dollars, we could raise a bounty of several hundred dollars. Then some tech-wiz can take much time trying to unlock the bootloader.
Anybody else willing to contribute to a bounty?

LG G3 D850 Update

Hello dear G3 owners, sorry if this is a repost
i have an LG G3 D850, living outside of the States, and i want to get the OTA Update, or simply install the MM, in the website they said, i do need the ATT Simcard, as far as i know the ATT is a line provider which will cost a whole new phone just to get one, my question is this, does an ATT sim card bought on Some online store, an Activated one can do or there is no chance to get the OTA or whatever method to update,
i have tried several Roms , but always had issues, from battery draining to some nonfunctional phone
i guess then there is no solution

now that change things!!
I don't know how things work in that matter but giving the case that i am using straight talk on at&t towers!! Not directly at&t u know! I remember updating phones without any sim card!
Try to change time & time zone put that manually so that u telling u located in the states instead! U can do that going to settings> date and time and change them manually and restart the phone after changing it before heading to update this is just in case. Try that!

i have already tried that i even used an US VPN to see if it is my provider that blocks things, i removed the simcard tried all of that but no chance, on forums they said the only way is to have an AT&T simcard working
what is that Straight talk ? is it an option or something, i tried to get an AT&T Simcard from a friend in US, and he said that this provider only gives a line on contract which will be more expensive than the phone

straight talk is prepaid service in the state, a mvno from tracfone that uses the 4 big networks att/tmobile/verizon/sprint to offer service/carrier u like most. It is really affordable!
I guess the left option is the sim card, well try that without ripping off ur wallet bro keep us posted!

yeah i hag samsungs , xperia and nexus also updated them with no problem but this D850 is blocked by AT&T as far as i know
did you try to update via LG suite?
AT&T simcard is required (gophone, and active)
Adding my 2 cents.
Based on my experience, you need an AT&T simcard, and must be active. The simcard can be postpaid or gophone (prepaid). The very first D850 update (the Lollipop update, software versionD85020f) can be pushed down without having your IMEI number associated with the simcard. Any subsequent updates will require your LG G3 in AT&T database. That means, when you activate the simcard, you need to input your LG G3 imei number. Otherwise update versions D85021r, d85021q won't work. I've tried it with 4 different AT&T GoPhone simcards. Update can be pushed down via wifi only.
AT&T LG G3 can't update via LG suite. I seem to recall tmobile's can (D851).
Visit https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KB425811 for more info on different versions available.
Good luck.
