If you could ask One Plus to concentrate on 1 thing, what would it be? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

As OnePlus is a smaller company, it's understandable that they may not have the resources to fix all of the bugs, release security updates and work on the Android Nougat update all at the same time.
If you could ask One Plus to concentrate on 1 thing, what would it be?

For me this is easy. Video stabilization is broke at the moment.
Once they fix this, the Android N update would be nice.

For me. I think videos stabilization is acceptable honestly speaking its not that bad. We can co-op with it as being an average user. And for those of them who wants best in class video quality you better invest in something way better as the camera on oneplus is far better then the competition. And there's practically no drawbacks at all, imo. Speaking of which you won't get better than this in just a budget of Rs. 28k or $400. As the given market standard you have to spend almost double for samsung Sony and triple for the apple devices. So taking the compatibility and user experience in consideration. I think i can pick a oneplus 3 on any day. So in my opinion. OnePlus for the given moment should only concentrate on the nougat update. So that oneplus's flagship get some reputation of providing good and fast updates as doing so will enhance the market reputation and add another reason to get oneplus 3 asap. As if they provide an update within this quarter they will have a hefty amount of time to concentrate the video stabilization. As it is usable but there's nothing better than the best. ?

Front Camera quality, it just sucks. You go to a zone with a bit of a low light and the noise is unacceptable. OPO's front cam was miles better than this crap.

Faster WiFi chipsets , or nougat 7.1

7.1

Better digitizer glass

Camera , image quality and UI interface is really lousy. I always accidentally switch photo mode to video mode when try to zoom in or zoom out .
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using XDA-Developers mobile app

I would ask for a stock camera app that all Roms could use.

Better camera than iPhone and Pixel

No doubt.........Android 7 update. Everything else in this phone is ok according to its price.

Rom flashing to be a lot safer & easy. Not like now, Twrp or firmware needs to be reinstal almost on every time you flash a new rom.
Better LTE, phone signal, camera.

Fix not users issue :highfive: like stabilization

I would love to see improvement of built in apps like gallery, music, shelf, launcher, camera, clock and enabling FM radio. More tweaks and cool useful features.
I.e: alarm clock that plays your favourit FM radio instead of tone / editing a ringtone in music app...

Im happy with everything on my OP3, everything works super well imo.
A well built Android 7 would be great.

As the author of this poll I'm surprised by the results. In other places, there are people that moan that the OP3 is a buggy unsupported mess.
By most users opting for the N update, it proves the device is generally solid and the issues are the minority not the majority of users.

Why?

I don't really care about V7. I'm more concerned about them screwing up Oxygen OS by making it into Hydrogen OS.
Software wise i just want regular security updates and big fixes. Once they have that down they can worry about messing up the UI and adding useless features.
Pipedream, replace your stock recovery with twrp and stop making me reinstall it after updates.
On the hardware front I just want an SD card. I don't need it obviously but I would prefer it.

Current state of OP3 camera

I've read a lot about the OOS camera and the various cameras in non OOS ROMs (CM, Aosp, etc). I was wondering if we have gotten to a point where they perform similarly. I've heard mixed opinions.
Also why does OnePlus not release the camera source? They eventually released dash charging source, so I'm curious as to why they wouldn't do the same for the camera?
From what i've experienced, almost all well-lit shots (Both outdoor and indoor) perform almost as well on non-OOS ROMs as they do on OOS. For the discerning eye, OOS shots are still more crisp, but there is enough of a parity there that i don't think most people would notice. Any shot that isn't well-lit, OOS has non-OOS beat. Sometimes by a little, sometimes by a wide margin. In poor lighting, the non-OOS ROMs have gotten better, but it's still pretty clear that OOS is the better performer. Almost all of the issues with these shots come down to the noise cancellation.
When it comes to video, it's a mixed bag. On OOS 3.5.3 community build, the 1080P 60fps mode is amazingly fluid, and for the most part fantastic. The 4k mode is decent from what i can tell, although i don't really use it that much. The slow motion mode is great. On non-OOS ROMs, it depends on the ROM really. SultanXDA's ROM with his custom HAL probably has the best performance as far as video goes. The built-in camera app does a decent job at 1080p video and the 4k seems OK, but again, i don't use that mode very often. Video performance in other camera apps seems decent. On OOS 3.2.6, i had some issues with video performance though, so it's not all roses there if that's the version you're running.
Carl Pei has made it clear on Twitter and on a Reddit AMA that OnePlus will never release a fully open source camera stack. I suspect that this probably has to do with proprietary noise suppression algorithms and some other proprietary optimizations that OnePlus has engineered. It needs to be mentioned that the camera hardware is only one part of the equation when it comes to camera performance. There are a number of software components that go into a full camera experience. There really needs to be both to get full utilization out of a piece of camera hardware. As far as i've heard, OnePlus is "looking at ways" to bring the full OOS camera experience to non-OOS ROMs, but nobody really knows what that entails as of yet.

Thanks for the excellent explanation!
Also worth considering that the camera isn't manufactured by one plus, can't remember what off hand who's sensor they're using, so they would need manufacturers permission to release driver source.

Rear camera sensor is SONY IMX298 Exmor RS
Front camera sensor is SONY IMX179
On topic: i have always used Nexus and loved changing ROMs and trying new roms. With oneplus 2 i could do it, because of a good camera port, but in this phone... OOS is a must if you want to take decent pictures
Oos 3.5.2 camera is insanely good and super fast. Really its faster than iphone 6s plus camera with oos
Luckily we have xposed framework, so we can customize our op3 using oos roms, but yeah... It kinda sucks we have to use oos just because of camera. It doesnt matter app you use in custom roms, it will lack libs, drivers etc...
Same as FPS. OOS is insanely fast but with any custom ROM (even with released sources) its slower (still fast but i notice that difference)
Edit: btw oos is a pretty nice ROM.
Lacks customization? Yes, but xposed framework will do that
compared to S7 or HTC 10 the OnePlus3 camera sux
Only For camera I can't use any Custom rom
Sadly comment here.. Cz i tasted all rom here and There iso no good camera custom rom.. all custom camera sucks ?..
Now i am using 3.2.4 cz 3.2.6 camera also missing focus on right place.. and I love to capture regular macro shot via my mobile...
But i buy it also tested custom rom.. but i can'T!! only for bad camera ??

LeEco Le Pro 3 Review (Real User Review)

I've had my Le Pro 3 for over a week now and just published my full detailed video review which covers pretty much everything from the design, cameras, dual loudspeakers, benchmarks, GPS and wifi range and speeds.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfTIx-DWcmo
I also ran a speed test and comparison against my Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus just to see how they compared as both have Snapdragon 821's and 4GB of RAM.
Overall it's a very decent mobile however, it still has the flaws from the Le Max 2, large black bezels, no MicroSD or 3.5mm port are deal breakers for some. Audio from the type-c to 3.5mm adaptor is very clean and sounds great. No static and loud too.
The camera is a bit of a let down, no OIS still and while it can take some decent photos in good light, low light and video is not the greatest for a flagship mobile. The Chinese need to really step up their game on the camera department. I wouldn't by this mobile for the best camera, I would buy it for good performance and great battery life. I was able to get around 11 hours of SoC (continuous)

Thx with this first review
Thank you And great job !
I was planning to ditch my Axon 7 for this phone, but not really that sure anymore. Seems like a lateral transfer, not really an upgrade in any way (except for battery life I suppose?).
wow..12hr screen on time. That is impressive.

I want to buy the phone because it has great specs (does it feel as good as it sounds?) but I want to know if google services work flawlessly e.g. contact syncing, play store. Since you have this phone what is your general opinion about it, does it work buying it?

I also have this phone. No problem with Google services or Play store. Contactar syncing was perfect, with Google account and others account.
Two days with It and i like It a lot.
In my experience 6:30 of screen with 4G and almost without wifi.
Sorry for my english.
Thanks for the review. Maybe the Pro3 is not the best phone ever made. But it seems to be very very good, will most likely not explode and - taking into account the price - there is simply no competition. Hopefully, my phone will be delivered soon ...
I've received it today...very beautiful and work really good. We need an international ROM however.
I have this problem...it doesn't let me change or delete default APN. A problem I read is already present in other EUI smartphone someone has solved this Problem?

Thanks for that great review. Just some questions. Believe there are some like me who do not have access to LeEco products but are still keen on buying from an online reseller but have some concerns.
1. Are there any noticeable hardware issues? - understand that there are some complaints recently even on the le 2 that the display was not installed properly. Wondering if there are other types of defects that could render the device unusable for the obsessive compulsive people out there
2. What sort of rom is your unit using? - Importers/international sellers are known to meddle with the device to cater to the demands of their target demographic especially to those outside of china, hence, they can install fake roms (custom miui roms that don't receive updates for example) or install play store (after a restore to factory option, the gapps disappear)
3. The rom US units use seem to differ to the non-us units and the model numbers also differ. Would this be an issue if say the international rom is released and its not compatible with a unit bought from an importer? - had an issue before with a mi5 where the rom was an unofficial one and had to go through the hassle of unlocking the bootloader and installing the global rom instead
4.Any idea of software support in the long run and how prompt are LeEco's updates; ie Android N?
Thanks in advance and patience!
I know that US version x727 should be only 4/64 4gb ram and 64 GB ROM. It should have different LTE bands...in order to be used on us market.
Probably the us ROM couldn't be used on Chinese units.

I have been using pro3 (x720) for three weeks. The screen display picture occasionally shake for about 0.2 second. This is the most disturbing issue. You can find the same complain in the Chinese leEco forum. Beside, mobile signal is not as strong as the nexus 5 I used for almost 3 years. If you can ignore these two issue, it's a great phone to have.

We all running stock rom with/without root. I hope it's rom related issue. As of now ,no official rom zip is available from LeEco.
Hi,
Just bought the 6/64 nonUS Version to use in Europe. Bought it after watching your review, thanks for that!....
Will directly root the phone in order to remove the chinese App's but wating for some plain Android rom's (stock Android). Had CM9 or so on a galaxy before and i wasnt that suprised as i supposed to be, but will also give it a try if it comes available to the Le Pro 3....
I'm sure with the actual specs and this awesome price the community behind the Pro3 will grow fast. Also i would donate 10€ to support the devs.
Sure to be here more often in future.
Thx&Rgds,
Maxcyber
I just got my Chinese version (6GB/64GB Dual Sim) - The phone is lightning fast. Screen looks great - camera is okay (I just snap pics anyways not really a photo person). The screen is decent if not a bit washed out. Indoors is just fine - outdoors I have to crank it to about 85% to see it. The fingerprint reader seems lightning fast if not 100% accurate. ( I get about 4 out 5 times). It let me add multiple fingerprints to unlock left or right handed. Overall the build is pretty solid. I put in my att sim and did not have to do anything else. Picked up all my settings. My antutu scores are 162397 - just shy of iphone 7 scores. Apparently the install is not google certified. I cannot run Pokemon Go or Android Pay (and snapchat I am told I don't use it). Pokemon Go is the soul breaker for me...
The GPS seems to lock lightning quick. I have not had any issues with Google apps although some updating had to happen (google services, play app, mail app etc...).
The battery seems amazing. I am getting great times out of it I don't have exact numbers but so far so good at least as good as my s7 edge.
I was able to put the google now launcher on it so no issue with the leeco skin.
Hopefully with the US launch tomorrow it will have a google certified image so I can run Pokemon go if not I am not sure I will keep it.
Pokemon go functions on official ROM ...see my screenshots.
I can't Android pay isn't active in Italy.I can't prove it...sorry.

Little rant to get it out of my chest...

Disclaimer: This is rant, a civilized one, if you disagree with me, you are welcome to illustrate me but offenses are not appreciated.
This phone is great, but it refuses to be acceptable as a daily driver.
Developers are the best people in the world, they do what they do with no return at all sometimes, but the software (the lack of a good kernel base) makes it really hard to enjoy. I could never get more than 4.5 hours of SOT on any ROM, whereas stock would give me at least 5.5; however stock software is a bad joke for the Android base and the camera output is nerve wracking...
The CDLA headphones are a must, no one likes the dongle and it seems that (due to broken kernel) no dev was able to figure out this one (clarifying again that I don't blame them). So my options are to get used to carry the dongle or to the crack and pop from the CDLA ones... hmmmmmm......
I see the exact same story as with the Amazon phone, on its time, the Amazon phone had a really good thing going here in XDA, but the bootloader was never unlocked and the momentum was lost. I had to let go on my Fire phone....
For the LePro3, many great options are at hand at the same price, I'm looking heavily right now at the LG G5 from the $200 custom rom on eBay, WAY BETTER camera (like 10X times better), about the same battery life if you compare custom ROM of LePro3 vs stock of LG G5, and I have to admit that although I dislike LG's interface, it is tolerable.
Also, the LeEco servers (including the one that supports OTAs) has been down for at least 3 days (that I have tried myself), like seriously, we know the company is nearly in bankruptcy although still having customer support working, but the fact that security updates have halted and servers are down, tells me that there is something wrong going on.
At $200 dlls that I got the phone for, it is still not worth it for *me*.
My Moto Z play was $450 with a hasselblad camera mod that I was able to sell to get $100 in return, so for $350, I would still take yet another Moto Z Play at the current price, with way lower specifications, than taking a LePro3 for $200.
Help yourself and download these apps
Power Toggles
ACDisplay
Simple Control
Fingerprint Quick Action
Pixel Launcher
Modify the DPI to 300 via ADB
Download Google Camera (2.7) , Phone, Contacts etc from APKMirror
I am enjoying all the benefits from stock ROM plus emulated stock Android experience. =D
I bought this phone at what I thought was a steal for the hardware I was getting. I knew the company was unknown in the US and would likely not support the phone for long (if at all). I've flashed many Roms and played with this phone more than any other than perhaps my Nexus 6. Its a great phone overall with pretty decent developer support. I regret nothing.

I have to agree with rivethead23 I got the Pro 3 and immediately flashed the Turbo Destroyer rom on it and have never had any regrets
I also bought an LG G6 and I found it was no upgrade to the Pro 3 and ended up returning it.
My advice is to Flash the Turbo EUI 21S v20 rom and Nova launcher with Nova Google companion and you get the best experience from this device

Pretty much this.
I'm using the phone on stock 26s, pretty heavily customized though: Magisk, Xposed, Viper, GravityBox, Tasker, stock android/Google apps like Dialer Contact Messages Calendar Keep Hangout Gmail etc., Nova Launcher with companion, PlayerPro and VLC, Brave browser... I removed all Chinese bloatware, and stock apps I don't need anymore like Contact, Message, Music, Video, Browser, Launcher, LIVE, lots of LeEco apps, etc. Disabled all stock extra memory optimizations to let Android deal with memory. Splash and bootanim without Chinese. Etc.
It works really great, battery is still really good (I often have 5 or 5.5 hours SoT at the end of the day), I customized a lot of things to make it exactly how I wanted it. So far, the best device I owned, and one of the cheapest...

It's the latest Chinese stock ROM for x720.
ALSO RANT:
Well the issue is with android itself, there is no real AOSP phone, i don't get why manufaturers just don't put AOSP on phone and be done with it, i guess target for android phones are geeks, at least this kind of android phones. I wanted dual sim phone, but now i think i will manage some woraround and go ios, as bad as it is, OS is much more polished and unified.
Even Moto with almost stock android still does not get direct google updates, it is just bad design.
BTW i use pro3 as daily, i get 8 + hours SOT with stock firmare, i managed to get ACR to work quite good, DND to work quite good, but still, default apps, like browser does not work, google integration is crap, even with launcher 3, missing pulldown is a joke and google services crash quite often so ... meh, but still better then my gs4 with new battery and lineage
Oh and also the ambient light sensors sets screen too dim for me at night, until now I had opposite problem with all the other phones i had.
I also have galaxy s7 at hand to use and in my opinion samsung android is even worse.
The main issue is there is really no Android OS, no phone with AOSP, which is only real Android OS, only ****ton of phones with more or less molested OS.
BTW my budget was 1100usd for a phone, i still chose pro3 and I still think, despite it's flaws, for me, it is best choice, which is sad, but it is reality, we can't change it, reality is reality. I will try z2 force with battery pack if they sell it officially in Czech, but I don't expect much.
Oh my I thought I was the only one with the headphone issue
Hmm my Le Pro 3 is coming soon... But I'm more likely to just sell It while it's new and make some $$$ of it. Seeing this rants and all... AOSP/lineage is a must for me, same as Oreo.
Just gonna buy OP5 to replace my Bacon. Maybe that jelly pentile so not exactly FHD, POS display won't be so bad...

These rants are about things that we would like to have on the device and are inevitable, like the fact that we knew that there was no headphone jack and that the CDLA headphones are not perfect on custom software, we knew it and still took the chance, not the phone or dev's fault.
Other than that, the phone is amazing, you should give it a go, I don't think you can get too much money out of it, this is the wrong phone to re-sell for higher.
Also, you have a very specific example from other people in this thread, which is, you might like stock software which gives you the best battery life for the device.

I pretty OK with using adapter, no problem with me. I ordered it from China so when it gets to Europe it is worth more. I certainly would not lose money on it.
The only things that worry me are uncertain future of Oreo on this device and overall stability. I currently manage over 4 hours SOT with my OnePlus One.... Why this thing with 4070 Mah (thousand f-ing more) does 4.5 H or slightly more ? With newer SoC, screen etc. Stock software is a no-go for me. Android 6.0 is a no-go for me. So I rely on custom ROMs and dev support. At least dev support here is great!
Coming from Nexus and Nexus 5x, I was used to having so many roms and kernels. Getting LP3 was a big big jump and I did not like it in early days when no roms were available.
Now with more than enough roms and solid kernels, I do not miss anything. Omni Rom gives me 9 hrs of screen on time for my usage. It does not feel/act different than roms I used before.
The only problem was the camera performance. But with Google Camera port, that is no longer a problem now.

[Question]About to buy the phone, could you give me a few tips?

Hello!, I'm about to buy the Zuk Z2 phone tomorrow, it's the Aliexpress one that comes with multilang ROM (I think there's only one seller so I don't have anything to add about it). Anyone tested this ROM? Never flashed a phone so don't know if should I or not.
Main features I liked from the phone are the U-Touch swipping thing, front fingerprint sensor and camera, but looking at the forums, custom ROMs has less features on the camera (and I think they also get worse quality), also viewed a review that said that after 3 months of use, the fingerprint sensor started failing to recognize his fingerprint at the first two or three tries. Does the problems get solved with those ROMs? What about the camera? It gets really worse? Are there custom ROMs with the great performance, battery life, qc3 enabled and also stock camera or there's not such a perfect one yet?
Thank you a lot!
I think I can explain the fingerprint problem. When you use the U-Touch button often, the sensor gets dirty and needs to be cleaned before it can recognize a print. Someone on the forum said putting tape on the sensor helps, but that just made fingerprints stop working for me completely. What I did was disable U-Touch entirely and use the software nav keys. I mapped the U-Touch functions to other stuff - like double tapping the home button to open the dialer and stuff. Stock ROM doesn't let you do that, but some custom ROMs (I use AEX 4.5) do.
Camera isn't really that great. I don't need a camera so I don't mind, but I've seen better stuff for the price.
Also, I don't think QC3 works on any ROM, although I'd love to be corrected on that.
Hey, see if the Xiaomi A1 is available to buy instead for a similar price - IMO it's a much more well-rounded phone, and I've seen a Snapdragon 625 phone (Redmi Note 4), and it's about on par with the Zuk Z2 in performance, IMO. You get better benchmarks on the Zuk, but actual usage is 100% the same. Mi A1 has official updates from Google and a better camera too.

I'm also torn between A1 and Z2 (lol funny names). The main feature (for me) that the Z2 has is the smaller 5" screen. I prefer a compact form factor plus the z2 also has a 500mah bigger battery. I just hope that some kind soul ports the latest and greatest of android to the z2.
btw, does volte (jio) work proper on custom roms?

I think so? Not sure because I don't have Jio personally, but a lot of ROMs advertise VoLTE.
I can confirm that the battery on the Z2 is excellent - I get anywhere from 6-8 hours of SoT and I didn't even do any tweaks after installing the ROM. About the form factor though, you're not going to notice a huge difference - I hold a Z2 Plus and a Redmi Note 4 side to side, they're not really that different. Where the RN4 is wider, the Z2 Plus is thicker. I'd imagine the same would carry for the Mi A1.

Yeah, I brought a Z2. The A1 is good but the updates aren't handled by Google. If those Android One phones would get updated the same day along with nexus and pixel then maybe i would have given it a second thought. Even now, its launching with Nougat and they "promise" that it would be updated to O in 3-4 months. In three months, most phones get custom roms ready so no use of buying the xiaomi a1. I also don't sign up to the dual camera gimmick. If i even buy a phone for the camera, it would be the pixel or nothing. On the Z2, i couldn't care less. i can just carry my dedicated camera.
Now i just hope that VoLTE works nicely cause i use jio as my primary carrier and as you know, they don't have 2g/3g fallback.
I wouldn't buy this phone if given a chance again. Even with custom ROMs performance is below par.

Sure, that's cool. Have fun with your new device!
- my phone is now on AEX 4.6
- Jio is working without any issues. I can make calls from it even without turning on the LTE data.
- I use U-Touch single tap for 'back' and long touch for 'Google Now on Tap', and left and right swipe for one-handed mode. I don't like the sound when pressing that button, so never use that.
- so for 'recents' and 'home', I use 'Swipe Navigation' by Suphi : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.suphi.swipenavigation . I even purchased the full version. This is one of the better phones to use this app since there's no button (even capacitive) other than U-Touch. It has many customisations like long swipe for last app, dock, etc. More than that, it consumes only ~8mb of RAM.
- installed >300 apps, LTE mobile data always on, location (battery saving) always on, adaptive brightness (on day) browsing, chatting, gaming, watching videos,.. and still get 5-6 hours of SoT
- I don't care about the camera that much. So can't say anything about that, but I'm very happy with the results.
- for my smaller hands, 5" phones are good. And I love large screens if they're bezel-less (but these are expensive )

Is this a good budget phone?

I am looking forward buying a budget Android phone. I am looking at Nokia 6.1 and maybe a Moto G6. Does this phone have any sort of frustrating issues? There seem to be a lot of people complaining that this Nokia can crash or stop working on Amazon reviews.
Nah! No issues if you don't mess with the phone like rooting, unlocking bootloader or other stuff. Moreover, Nokia guys are really helpful if you get any issues.
Hey brother. I am from India and using ta1089 (nokia 6.1 Indian varient) from last 3 months. I will simply say don't buy this phone
Its quite laggy, poor camera and wrost system stability. Ui crashes very often. Phone freezes on opening camera and except durability, there's nothing good in this device. Please reply me with anything specific u would like to know.
It looks as if you are not in the UK then it's ok. We have problems with the "regular" Android One updates here in the UK as according to the Nokia tech guys the carriers here, the government here and everybody else is to blame for the uk phones not getting the updates.
Someone has found a workaround but all the Nokia people will tell you is to be patient. The phone itself is generally ok btw
TA-1068 - this is the most flawless device i have used in 10 years of Android phones (more than 15, different makes). Most problems come from inadequate usage, no matter the phone make.
Another TA-1068 user. No problems at all. The phone has been a pleasure to use. The camera is just OK, everything else has been great.

Uhm, with the TA-1050 we had no updates and bluetooth which kept dropping out for moments. Nothing to do with "inadequate usage". If Nokia (or HMD) sort this out in the UK then this phone will be like my favourite ever phone, the Nexus 5x. And if they simplify unlocking bootloader and releasing source code will be even better
TA 1043 phone is good, but the camera is sometimes laggy.. if i had the choice again i take the Moto G6 plus
So far its been fine
Im using the 1045 US variant. Its reliable, performs well. I had the camera and launcher issues but once i changed the camera apk (Nokia 7 Plus) and launcher (nova) things are fine. If your in the UK, and have a few extra quid i think the G6 plus or the nokia 7 plus would be the way to go....

Where van i het Nokia 7 plus camera app?
This phone's one and only gimmick is the nfc, the mi a1 outperforms it and the a2 outperforms it two times.
I got the july update and after a customer support adviced "softreset" it's kinda ok (let's say).
Otherwise typical sd6xx no matter how many ram; laggy keyboard, delayed app start, low call audio quality while having full signal, and a camera software screwed up in gargantuan proportions. If you have some experience with nexus phones, stop looking for them in this model, buy a pixel, even the first pixel is better than this.
If you want to talk, whatsapp and candycrush casually, this is your phone.
