Am I am using my unlocked one on AT&T and there are the typical minor annoyances... No HD Voice/VoLTE, no wifi calling, and no built in visual voicemail option in the pixel dialer. But those are AT&T's fault.. all of the mentioned things work fine with my Verizon sim...

Does AT&T have any plans to introduce the features you mentioned?

No. They wont for unlocked devices at all. If you want to use those features you would need to go to verizon or Tmobile.

If you use Google voice, you can have visual voicemail.

Been an AT&T customer a long time and I seriously doubt it... They enjoy screwing Android and unlocked phones in general and cater to iOS..... The only non AT&T Android phone that has VoLTE is the HTC 10. They have never given any of those features to any of the unlocked Nexus so it's a fair bet they won't on the pixel either..

I pulled my ATT SIM card out of my N6 and put it into my Pixel XL when it came on Thursday. I have only made a few phone calls, but haven't had any problems. I have used it to watch many Youtube videos off ATT data. I also use a ATT Microcell at home since I live off the beaten path and it connects to that without problems while at home.
The Pixel does check for tethering permissions once you insert an ATT SIM card. There is a hotspot / Verizon thread for the Pixel that talks about an easy work around for that. The main post is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69229666&postcount=35

I always setup Google Voice on my phones. I don't use it for calling, but have it handle my voice mail to get Visual Voice mail. That and I have an old ATT 100 test messages for $5 plan so I do almost all of my texting through Google Voice.

I tested it with ATT with my 6p SIM. I then put the Project Fi car in the Pixel and the ATT back in the 6p. I am doing a test over the next few weeks with a trip to Germany, Sicily and then a 2,000 mile drive in the US from Maine to Texas. That should confirm the choice. In Maine, US Cellular beats ATT. In Texas I don't know.

I do have Google Voice but the uncertainty of android apps (ie: Hangouts being phased out, Google Voice app not being updated) wished there was something definitive to integrate with.

Has anyone tried to get a Sprint Sim card? Would like to use the Pixel when it get here.
Hi. I am a Product Ambassador for Sprint and can confirm that Sprint is an activation partner for Pixel. Let me know if you have any questions.

A bunch! Current Sprint user - phone payment for current phone will be up in Dec. So looking at options.
1) Will I have to buy the unlocked phone at Google, or does Sprint plan to carry it soon?
2) Project Fi - do I sign up with that through Sprint or through Google?
3) Does that create extra fees? This is what Fi states: $20 unlimited talk/text plan plus $10 per GB of data—so 3GB of data and your total bill would be $50 a month.
3a) So I guess, it might be easier for you to explain the exact process of what will be needed
4) Do I get to keep my current #?
Thanks,
- Peter

Hey Peter -
Happy to help.
1) Sprint will not carry Pixel due to Google's choice to go with Verizon as the exclusive carrier storefront for Pixel, however we are an activation partner for the device. So, you would buy the unlocked version of the device from Google and activate it with us if you choose.
You can get a SIM kit from us online here:
https://www.sprint.com/landings/bring-your-own-phone/
2) Project Fi is a Google MVNO service offer, we do not "sell it" though we are a network partner in Fi providing service on the backend along with T-Mobile. More info on the Fi site here:
https://fi.google.com/about/
3) There are no extra fees with Fi. You either get service from Sprint using a Sprint SIM or you get service from Fi using a Fi SIM. If you choose to activate with Sprint you would just use your existing Sprint number. If you choose to activate the service with Fi, you would get a new Fi number of your own unless you choose to port your line to Fi in which case you would no longer have that number with us on Sprint.
3a) Hopefully I have!
4) If you wanted to activate your Pixel with Fi, you could port your number over to that service. You would no longer be a subscriber when you port out.
Hope this has been helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi Matt, Streamlining the process would sure be nice. Forty five minutes on the phone tonight, talked to 3 very nice reps. All to order a sim card. My wife wants the same phone when her lease is up. Why can't this be made less time consuming?

Well I wish I had a better answer. In this case, Google kept details around Pixel pretty close to the vest until the announcements yesterday which mean we could not communicate internally until late yesterday and today. The good news is that we have been working hard to make sure our Retail reps have internal information on Pixel to help with ordering SIMs as in your case. If you continue to still have a SIM issue, please let me know. The SIM card you will need for Pixel is:
UICC SKU / UPC Code
◦CZ2144LWC / 019962040146
•Retail SIM Kit Capable ◦760492034500

Hi hshshawn -
Yes it will as it is the exact same SIM SKU as Nexus 6: CZ2144LWC / 019962040146.
However we still require the SIM to be paired to the device MEID in our billing system so you can't just take the SIM out of your Nexus 6p, insert it into the Pixel and expect it to just activate. You still have to swap the device on sprint.com or through Care or Retail. Let me know if you have any more questions!

How about the Nexus 6? I have the Nexus 6 I got from sprint. Is this the same SKU?
A huge drawback in staying with sprint when I get the pixel is the lack of wifi calling support. I can go to T-Mobile and get unlimited, and have them support Androids native wifi calling.

Sprint supports Android native Wi-Fi calling. Are you 100% sure that T-Mo supports this on Pixel? It's a Google decision vs a Sprint decision on what they do and do not support in terms of carrier services.

The Project Fi SIM works on the Project Fi MVNO network. You will need a Sprint SIM card for Pixel to work on the Sprint network.
Correct SIM:
UICC SKU / UPC Code
◦CZ2144LWC / 019962040146
â?¢Retail SIM Kit Capable ◦760492034500
In terms of HTC 10, yes it will work as it is the exact same SIM SKU. I looked into this with our Product team and the Wi-Fi calling "support" that VZ and T-Mobile are claiming are most likely tied to voLTE than anything else. Ultimately Google does not support IMS on Pixel which would have enabled Android native Wi-Fi calling on our network.

Native hotspot with Verizon unlimited data working?

I'm grandfathered into a Verizon unlimited data plan and use the native hotspot on my phone all the time. I understand the native hotspot app worked with most of the Nexus 6P's for those with Verizon UDP and the 5X could be made to work with modding the build.prop. Question I'm anxious to find out is if the Pixel phones native hotspot works with Verizon UDP's or can be modified to do so. Thanks for any info.
The Verizon pixel performs the check to see if hotspot is on your plan. Just verified it with my friend's pixel that came in. You'll probably have to do the build.prop mod. My question is if you can do the mod with the bootloader locked.
This is not what I wanted to hear, might have to send mine back or try and sell since I got mine for a 2 year contract price. I use the tethering a lot in the car for my kids ipads.

Verizon. my guess is the google version will be the same but that's only because i'm going off my experience with the Nexus 6. I got my N6 from Motorola and it still did the subscription check when I put my verizon sim in. I had to modify the build.prop and adb shell command it to get it working. oddly my N7 LTE doesn't perform this check so there is still hope that the Pixel from google store might be different.
My 6P from Google doesn't check on Verizon. Hoping that the Pixel from Google won't check then either. I need that to work as other have said.

I can confirm my 6P from Google does not perform the check on Verizon and native tethering works on my UDP. I should have my Pixel tomorrow so I will check and see what works, if I can't get Foxfi or the native tether to work it will be for sale or sent back shortly.
I have the 6p Currently and can confirm as well it did not do the subscriber check.. I just got my Pixel XL in the mail from Verizon and I am getting no go with Foxfi (in wifi mode) and The built in tether.
This is not looking good, I wonder if the model from Google will work.

Wow if I cant get tether I will have to sell it immediately. I may just leave it sealed in box until I can get confirmation that tether works on UDP. I don't want to return the phone because I need to be locked in contract so I don't get that $20 price hike on UDP
I am not on Verizon, but in a similar boat with ATT "unlimited". My Google bought N5 worked fine with the built-in hotspot toggle (I don't think it was sold through carriers), but my N6 didn't (it was bought from ATT). If I recall correctly, the N6 checked your SIM card to see what carrier you were on and then restricted the wifi hotspot depending on permissions from the carrier. The N6 would also install bloatware depending on your SIM card. One trick was to not install your SIM card at the initial turn-on. I think that kept the bloatware off, but I am not sure about wifi hotspot functionality. I rooted the N6 and modified two files to get the hotspot to work. If the Pixel hotspot works out of the box, I may not feel the need to root.
Has anyone tried to tether on a Verizon UDP with a pixel purchased through the Google Store?

Do any of the Rom's support teathering with a Google purchased phone on VZW?

As the title states, do any of the ROMS support tethering with VZW (grandfathered UDP) or are we reduced to not having it anymore? Google purchased phone with unlocked bootloader/rooted....

Yes. I'm on Verizon and have the build.prop edit to allow tethering. No issues here, except that the Verizon network is terrible.
I figured on having to edit the build.prop...no big deal there... And I luck out that I am local to Philly, my VZW coverage and speeds are damn good...

Xfinity Mobile support for Pixel 2 xl?

Hi
Has anyone had any luck using an unlocked Google Store Pixel 2 XL on the XFinity Mobile network?
XFinity does not sell the pixel phones, and they claim that you cannot bring an android. But the Pixel phones are supposed to support all networks, so can't we just buy the phone from google and pop in the SIM?
Thanks!
TE
Poject FI works pretty much the same way as Xfinity. I've been using it since November. It's cheap ($30 average for me), and I love it.
I had Xfinity Mobile (worked well on my pixel 2 XL) and switched to project fi and wooooow I love it. I'm paying less and service is just as good if not bettet

I was very hesitant to try Project FI, was pretty happy with Straight Talk (AT&T) except for tethering being blocked and Project FI allows tethering so that's ultimately why I switched. Turned out to be a good decision.
Not wanting to resurrect an old thread but I need to switch plans and of all the local carriers xfinity would work the best for me because of the verizon tower coverage and cost. My only problem is devices. I own a Pixel 2 XL (non-verizon) and the wife has a Pixel (global model). Xfinity says they will not work but I can't see why not. I have heard that I will need to buy a cheap xfinity phone and use the sim card in that phone. I have been told everything will work except for voice mail.. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Results vary, apparently. Did you use a sim you already had, a new sim, or eSim to get your phone connected? I just ordered one from B&H, but won't ship until the 14th. AT&T wifi calling is the main reason I got this so I'm sort of tracking responses. It seems my Z3 Play is never going to get that feature. We do get wifi calling with our prepaid plan on the one iphone we have.

Thanks. If, by any chance, you lose those features (some have reported that happening, but more in the past and with phones NOT provisioned by AT&T), please let us (me) know. I felt secure enough to order the phone, so here's hoping it's all good.
I got my 3a XL today and wifi calling works perfect on my ATT service.
Confirmed as working on the 3a. VoLTE and wifi calling. Didn't have wifi calling before but was able to turn it on in settings and click through the att setup. Excited about this phone!
Also, posted at #410. That poster has prepaid (as do I). I'll open the box tomorrow morning then report my findings. :fingers-crossed:
Edit: It took persistence, but on the fourth try, BINGO!
WiFi calling failed during the first 24 hours with att Sim installed. After that period I tried again and it activated! Maybe they need to update imei in their system and then it works?
