Phone randomly stops detecting sim card? - Moto Z Play Questions & Answers

Has anyone else encountered this? I have the UK version (it supports all att bands). It randomly stops detecting the sim card, and I have to eject it and reinsert it for it to detect it again.

sounds like an issue with the phone man... Mine has been flawless. if i were u i would return it... or at least try a new sim card.

I tried changing the APN settings to see if that makes a difference at all

I second this. Sometimes you just get a faulty device. Just exchange it for a new one.

have you checked the SIM card, make sure its clean? Seated correctly? You can clean the contacts carefully with alcohol wipes

Dual Sim Problem

Hey guys,
I got an analogue dual sim adapter. When I start the phone with the first sim card it's ok. But as soon as I wanna switch to SIM2, it tells me, the sim card was missing. When I do a reboot instead of turning off and on the telephone module, it works. The strange is, when I do a switch from SIM2 to SIM1, there is no problem at all. Neither by restart nor by turning telefunction off and on.
I already tried to switch the sim cards manually in the adapter. No change. Always the problem by switching from SIM1 to 2.
Does anybody have a solution?
Btw. I run WM6 Touch VII. But it's the same problem with WM5.
Dual Sim
I assume that your sim is Analog? I'm not sure exactly how those work, but I had a similar problem with my Digital dual sim. It would always give a sim blocked message while trying to switch in the one direction. In the other direction it was fine. It turned out that my provider required the exact Telephone number to be the name of the Sim. When I changed the name, everything worked fine. Since it sounds like you have an analog model, I'm not sure if you can change the name, but if you can, it's worth a try.
P.S. The Digital Dual Sim really burn a lot of Battery, so I can't really recommend it.
yes. as i wrote it is analog. i can't change the names of the sim card.
Analog Sim Adapter
Which Radio Rom are you using? I would recommend 2.69.21. Since it works on a softreset and not with the Phone on off switch in ConnectionsManager, I would guess that you Radio Rom is not compatible with your SIM. Try flashing a new Radio ROM to see if that helps, if not, you can always another. If none of the radio roms work... well, try bringing back the SIM and getting a new one or something.
i updated to the newest radio rom version. And nothing changed. still "sim card missing". I suppose there's something wrong with my simcard.
Probably, but I did think of one other thing. It's kinda dumb, but maybe worth checking out: Is possibly one SIM slightly thicker than the other? If so that might be the problem. You could then try wedging paper in between to give it better contact. Otherwise, good luck with bringing it back, or exchanging it.
P.S. Have you tried it in a different Cell phone?
yes, i tried in a different one. there it works... strange.
thanks for your help anyways.
Have you tried all the radio roms? In your situation, I would flash every radio rom on the ftp just to try it out. Maybe the oldest one will help, maybe 2.47.21? Who knows? But if the card works in a different phone, then I can't see why it wouldn't work in the Prophet??? I have a Digital Dual Sim, and that works fine, but drains the battery

Hmm, interesting, I have a simmilar problem on my wizard. But it happens only with one particular pair of cards, other works flawleslly.
On my device it doesnt show the message, it even looks like it logs to the network correctly, but its imposible to make call, access Sim card or any phone options. It looks like the phone module hanged, and only solution is a soft-reset.
I didnt even thinked that the SIM card names have anything todo with that. Can you tell me in what format you put the number? I mean, did you put the country code in front of it (like eg. 44 or +44).
I have already tried to put the number, but still no success.
Also I have looked through many ROM's (more than 10) and tried almost all available radio's and always the same, no success.
PS About battery drain, i own a 15gen. dual sim card and it have exactly same power consumption as used without it. So seek for a new DualSim, they dont have increased drain.

Try running Connection Setup it should be under accessories.
If you are using AT&T select that network.

i already did that, and that didn't work
the phone recognizes the sim card but doesnt want to recive signal
Try a different SIM, also if on contract phone up your carrier and request a new sim card you'd be suprised they do get naffed and the timing may just be a coincidence?

make sure that your phone is unlocked and try reflashing the ROM that's all I can think of.

Have you check out airplane mode is off? or the phone cellular radio on? That's on your comm manager options.
i already check the airplane mode, also a tried with another sim card, even simcard of anothers carriers and nothing
External Antenna??
Have you hooked it up to an external antenna lately? If you have, it may not be reconnecting to the internal antenna because of the adapter used.
Ditto. The first 2 Dash's I had went through this same problem. I used an external antenna and adapter when I was back home. Both of them stopped receiving signal. I thought it might be the ROM, so I reflashed the original T-Mo Rom, but to no avail. I even flashed other ROM'S from this site, and that didn't work. Finally after returning 2 devices, I finally figured it out that it must be the antenna. (although on the 3rd Dash the power button stopped working,so T-Mo swapped it out for a BlackBerry)
I urge you, if you can, DON'T use an external antenna. If you must, use very carefully, and avoid hitting underlying circuitry when plugging/unplugging the adapter. I think thats what happened to mine.
I am not saying you are using an antenna, it just sounded so similar to my prior problem. The only thing I can tell you, if reflashing doesn't work, call up your provider and ask for a replacement. If you don't have a provider, through whom you have means of replacement, I would check if internal antenna or radio circuitry is still good.
Good luck. Let us know outcome.

Data and reception problem

Hello dear friends,
My Samsung captivate glide stopped receiving 3g data (mobile network not available).
Two weeks ago I had flashed Osimood ROM, all worked correctly until now.
Now I have only the wifi connection working but the Mobile network is not available at all (I cannot even call the emeregncy numbers - it gives me the "the process com.android.phone has stopped..." ).
I tried access the Settings-wireless and network-Mobile networks and it shows me "Insert SIM card".
Then I tried *#SIMLOCK# to check if my fphone is locked, it shows me "the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly".
I tried to restore the phone from other backups from other Roms , but the problem is still the same.
Please help me to solve the problem and fix my phone.
#1 Thing can you make Phone calls?
#2 Verify your APN settings for Data? Is that Fine?

Try turning off your phone and re-seating the Sim card (only do this when phone is off) Then try turning on phone and seeing if you can make calls again if it still does not work try your Sim on another phone or another Sim on your phone. If unlocked any providers should work if not try from same provider.
I once had this happen to me for some reason my Sim was not properly seated. hopefully that is all that is wrong here as well. If your Sim is not being recognized, it may be hardware. Unfortunately and some people have stated issues where there Sim was not being recognized as they removed and inserted it in the past with the phone on, which could have caused some short.

Thank you dudejb for the quick answer.
I tried to re-seating the Sim card (while phone is off),
Tried to insert another Sim of other providers,
These methods didn't resolve the issue.
I never touched the Sim card before, so I think it cannot be the hardware issue.
Any another suggestions???
You could try clearing data for Phone and Phone Data (via Settings -> Apps), but I suspect that may not be good enough. If that doesn't work, use your installed recovery to wipe data. (Note, this will delete all user data on the device and reset your ROM to first-boot state!)
If it STILL doesn't work, use Kies to restore the device back to stock (Tools -> Firmware Upgrade and Initialization). If your radio works now, there was something wrong with the ROM you had, or your baseband got corrupted somehow. You can try your ROM again if you want; if the problem coems back, try a newer version or a different ROM.
If it STILL doesn't work, you're gonna have to call Samsung support. With the device in stock state they should be willing to help.
Thank you dudejb and roothorick for time and answers.
I resolve the issue by pulling out the battery and Sim card, after blow it by compressed air (dust cleaner).
My phone is back and it works like a charm

Makes sense and thank goodness (is that even a word?) Dust blocking connection to the Sim, interesting that it can do that. Glad to see it is working again.

Also if your service suddenly dissapears try to tape the sim card in place I had to do that

HELP!! GT-N5100 wrongly detects SIM card Forced Restart

I have an unrooted, purely stock GT-N5100.
I haven't put in the microSIM in its slot ever. I use it in airplane mode , only with Wi-Fi. But I have a problem where sometimes, it randomly detects that I have put in a SIM card( and it leaves me no option but to restart it). Then sometimes after detecting that, it detects that I have removed the SIM card and I again need to restart it. This gets really annoying and this time, it oscillated between the two cases as can be seen in the video below.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yr2UlC2VpgY
Now I don't have a SIM in the microSIM size, so I am Unable to really check by putting in a SIM card, there is nothing in the SIM slot, I checked by opening the flap.
Should I rush to the Samsung Service center to get it fixed? Any other Suggestions to fix it?
