Anyone else returning it or thinking about it? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Using a OP3, barely an improvement to me. I find myself more annoyed you cant just enter phone with fingerprint on front or at least tap to wake. Performance wise minimal difference. I'm underwhelmed. I'm giving it one more day but most likely returning. Anyone else feeling similar?

I came from a OnePlus 3 myself and though I do prefer the front fingerprint sensor, the Pixel XL beats it on everything else IMO. My SoT on my PXL destroys what my OP3 was giving me, the camera is on another level, I do feel a difference in smoothness (not necessarily performance, but just general smoothness) and the screen is significantly better too (I plan on using VR, so a QHD screen is sort of necessary).
Now, the Pixel literally cost me twice what I paid for my OP3 ($600 vs $1200 - tax included in CAD$). Is it really worth it? No. Not at all. But as a tech head who switches phones every 6 months, I don't mind spending extra money on a device I use literally every day, constantly. Especially knowing I can sell it 6-12 months later and get the majority of my money back (I always keep my phones in mint condition).
When all is said and done, I'm very happy with my Pixel. Is it overpriced? Yes, but so are all the other main stream flagships. I'm not going to complain about price - which seems to everyone's gripe about this phone (that and waterproofing.. god people need to get over that). At the end of the day, if you're not fully satisfied with your purchase, just return it. I plan on keeping mine.

I am similarly annoyed with no ability to wake the screen without picking the device up.... how in the world double tap to wake isn't an option when they put the fingerprint reader on the back is beyond me.

It definitely should've been a stock option, but that'll be a feature in almost every ROM made for the phone, so not a huge concern TBH.

I can't and honestly don't care to flash roms. I can however walk into a version store and say no thanks. Keep it.

Myself, I was looking forward to stock without the need for flashing anything but not this time with the pixel.

Well, as I stated to the OP, "if you're not fully satisfied with your purchase, just return it."
Personally, returning a device simply because it doesn't support Tap to Wake seems a bit overkill. But, if there's other things about the device that urks you, then I don't see why you should keep it. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I read somewhere they are adding double tap to wake in the future. I agree, it needs it BADLY lol. I am satisfied with my purchase. I don't mind the waterproffing, as the Note 7 didn't hold up under 6 inches of water for me anyway. And as for the price? I've paid 800+ for every phone I had the past few years (minus the 6P) so that's a non issue

I have a $1000 device that has a back side fingerprint reader and absolutely no way to wake it/unlock it using anything on the front/top side of the phone. I am forced to do an awkward pinch to squeeze power button followed by entering a code to unlock or pick up the phone. It's hard to understand how this scenario ever passed their ID department. To me this is a device failure. You see it as a small issue. I see it as me having to pick up my damn phone every time I want to wake it for the next two years because Google made poor ID decisions.

I'm sending mine back because the screen has a line going down the middle. I'm not doing an RMA because I have the 32gb and that's not going to cut it. 128 is a month wait... Buying a 6p on eBay and saving $700.

Tap to wake is apparently coming "very soon" http://www.androidheadlines.com/2016/10/double-tap-wake-arriving-pixel-phones-soon.html

I'm seriously thinking about it. It's.not because of anything really on my Pixel XL, It's more how AMAZING my Moto Z Force Droid is. I don't know through I keep going g back and forth. Moto has me so disgusted with there marketing plan or lack of one, there horrible customer service, and there nightmare logistics , I wanted to get free from them, But waterproof shatterproof and almost barebones Android make it really nice phone

Isnt tap to wake different than ambient display? 6p has ambient display that worked out the box and the new update to 7.1.1 even has a setting for it to show notifications under "Moves". nexus 6 did the same thing, I.E. it had a working ambient display function. My understanding is that tap to wake actually turns on the phone in lieu of power button or similar....it has nothing to do with notification display

Completely different. Not equivalent. Not acceptable. The phone is so thin you are basically having to pick it up from the table at least a little bit to press the power button. Then if you are like lots of professionals we have an admin security policy because of corporate email security that requires you to unlock it with a 5 digit code or fingerprint. So to actually do anything we have to pick it up. Even with tap to wake this is an issue. This single issue is annoying me multiple times daily and might be the nail in the coffin. At least with my. NOTE 7 I could reach over with one finger press the home button while it simultaneously read my finger and be at an unlocked home screen with no more than a single finger press.

The phone is fine - I knew what I was getting before i purchased it.
I prefer the reader on the back. I have it set to not lock when is at home or in the car so i don't have to pick it up, just press the side button.

P.S. from back in the day this was all the rage:

You kinda knew the layout of the device before buying it right? The missing front fingerprint scanner at least is what I'm referring to. You should definitely just return it though. You're pretty upset and there is no way they can make you happy at this point.

Unfortunately I understand the layout and the basic requirement for the need for the ability to unlock the phone without picking it up better than Google did... apparently....im hanging on to it until the return period is up to see what else is out there. I may have to return it and find some junk phone to use until another decent size decent phone comes out.

Yeah, unfortunately it's about the best we have hardware wise on android at the moment. The Moto G4 plus seems to be a lower spec phone that has a front fingerprint scanner. Honestly, it looks like a great value for it if you don't mind the 1080p display. I personally don't mind it. Plus the software is pretty close to stock. I believe the screen size is the exact same as well.

what DONT you like about the note 2?

Well, I'm coming from the note 1 and the difference is like night and day! Aside from the beastly specs, the feel is just so incredible! ! But this isnt a thread about all the things you love about the phone, it's about what you don't. I'll start.
PLEASE DONT MENTION MULTIWINDOW. I'M PISSED OFF TO.
Not a fan of the amount of time it takes to turn on when you press the power button, meaning wake up time...
I'M OUT!!
My biggest issue with the Note 2 is that it keeps me from doing real work or wanting to see my family or shave or take a bath or sleep. I should be sleeping now but guess what i am doing, tweaking the layout, testing apps that never really worked on older phones. Aahhhhhhh, see my frustration?

Which apps do you mean if you dont mind my asking?
lol interesting thread - i've had my note for a total of 2.5 hours so far (side by side with my S3) and i've got to say (having used the original note) the overall feel is nice, very rounded, a bit slippery perhaps (nothing a skin cant fix)
the pen still feels lighter than i'd like and the button is a bit more recessed than i'd like
the home button is awesome and much more responsive than my stock s3
a similar complaint to my s3 but when grabbing the device from the bottom edge, i have a tendency to tap the menu / back buttons on accident, a bit annoying when not using a case
the glass is nice, the feel of the pen on the screen is much more controlled than the original
nfc, yay! google wallet downloaded, would message ' not compatible' on open and shut itself down... boo..
the volume and home button have a nice confident click and feel compared to the s3 and original note...
i posted my grey'd positive comments in your other thread...

Man... youre right about the home and volume buttons... i forgot
Google Wallet not working.
Lack of multi windows.
The pen feels a bit cheap still (loved the feel of the Palm Tungsten metal ones that were telescopic). Though fixable as I think I'll get a dual use pen/pointer to keep in pocket/briefcase, I'm a fairly large bloke too, so having that larger pen will help too, this current one isn't really of a decent size/thickness/weight to use for long periods of time, I think my hand would 'claw' up.
Lack of cases for a while (the official 'flap' one is good, got it at last but was making me twitchy not having it protected. Wish there was a good/cheap pouch type case to slide it in for extra protection). And/or the 'flap' phone case, the front of it, the actual flap, is wonderful to touch, but the back is the same uber slippery plastic that the default one is. Can NFC not be done through a very slightly thicker case with a built in rubberised coasting, as the Nexus7 has? This thing is still very, very slick, and I can see with slightly sweaty hands, I'll need to be extra careful.
The built in Samsung Keyboard (that is SO incredibly good with the Swype/cool T9 like swype functionalty/left/right handed), but doesn't scale to other resolutions if you tweak the lcd dpi. REALLY a great keyboard, please make it scale! No, best keyboard I've ever used, and it's keeping me from tweaking the dpi.
The knowledge that when I do inevitably flash CM on this, I'll probably end up losing TMobile wifi calling, that for me, is working wonderfully.
Touch wiz is mildly... odd. But not as bad as seen before, JB's ability to disable things is really helping. But what annoys me somewhat is the different functionality for no other reason than to do it different it appears, and needing a few extra apps (like the photo editor) downloaded when built in apps rely on it.
Oh, no 32mb NII's in TMobile, and so much of the 16GB filled with Bloatware (steady Cyanogenmod, steady... your day will come).
So, all pretty minor (hopefully constructive) criticisms. Overall, still mad impressed with this phone. All phones should have the option to have it work with a stylus as well integrated as this.
If I had the chance to order things to be fixed;
Wifi Calling for Tmobile as an installable app so I'd be less twitchy about flashing with other roms.
Rubberised back.
My personal gripe, is about how much my GN2 looks and feels like an iPhone. In everyway, from the straight lines, to the rounded corners, and don't get me started with the app drawer. The smoothness of page transitions, Google Now.
OK.. I was just kidding guys! LOL.
My real gripes -
1 the on/off button on the exact opposite side of the device as the volume rocker. They should have put it up on top.
2 No dedicated camera button.
3 I always loved scrollable wallpaper, which I feel I shouldn't need to root, and re-rom for it.
4 No auto spell correct from the stock Samsung keyboard.
5 Oh yeah, NO [email protected]#$KING MULTI-SCREEN. - sorry, had to get that one in.

The battery life is too good. The phone is too gorgeous.
Only gripe is the call volume being a bit on the low side even when maxed. Speaker is loud enough though.
I'm sure they're apks to tweak it a bit but I'm too busy enjoying the phone so i'll search for a fix later.
Somerhing for me is the screen keeps timing our evn with the option checked to see my eyes... also when it goes out and I press home button it goes home instead of waking up to the app I was on. Everyother phone did not do this. Is this just me or is there a setting?
I came from the S3, and love everything about my Note 2. I can't say one bad thing about it.

Size once in a while, I'm 5'7 so I guess that means I have smaller hands? For the most part I dont have an issue but some times my hand gets fatigued from using it too much...Not complaining but sometimes I wish they kept the 5.3 and made it narrower it'd be perfect for me.
I don't like that we can't use our S-Pen on our soft keys. It would be great to be able to hit the menu and back buttons with the pen and have them respond.
i dont like the physical home button, but not enough to keep me from buying it, i think next year it will be all cap.buttons.oh well i'll get it when its available

Capactive or On Screen?

As for me, I sincerely hope the buttons are capacitive. I've never been a fan of on screen buttons for various reasons, not to mention. If they are on screen buttons, what the heck is the big black strip at the bottom for? It holds the HTC Logo, sure, but if that's the only reason, then make more use of it. Put some freaking buttons there. Lol. I absolutely love my HTC One 2013, and I'm more than likely getting the 2014 model (which i really hope is called the One Up as some rumors suggest), but the on-screen buttons kill me.

On screen isn't a game breaker for me. Just a nitpick. The all metal body and front facing speaker (as well as the Sense UI,which IMO isthe best stock UI) are enough to warrant me wanting one. Plus I have to buy a phone so I can give my wife my old M7
M8 dump has on screen buttons, if that's not enough confirmation :00

meh, on screen keys will be quite nice, and im positive they'll be customize-able once rooted and xposed added in, just look at aosp, can put almost whatever button you want down there.
I actually find on-screen buttons more comfortable. Capacitive buttons on a large device dramatically increases the range of thumb motion required to efficiently operate it one handed. I can't say how many times I've tried to elegantly enable on-screen buttons on my GS3, but each time I was successful it was much less of a reach to hit the menu button.
I am excite for this phone. Seems more and more like a real winner. I don't mind a 2600 mah battery as the GS4 had that same size and was just fine. I was concerned they'd go with 2300-2400, at which point it'd be a deal breaker.

I'm hopeful thatvthey might offer the ability to turn off on screen buttons, with hidden capacitive buttons in the large black bar. That would be ideal--the best of both worlds.

I disagree on the on screen buttons, but it's an opinion, so there's no point in arguing it.I would LOVE to see a 3000 mah battery, but supposedly 2600 is "confirmed." I personally am skeptic about anything being confirmed until HTC themselves says it.

I would LOVE to see this. Or at least some use for that area. As I said earlier, it's not a deal breaker, but the random black bar along with the lack on capacitive buttons won't be appreciated on my end at least. Though I understand one opinion does not change an entire company. Unless I'm the CEO of HTC and I didn't know it.

New Pixel C but quality issues

So I received my Pixel C this past Thursday and have been using it. I have noticed some quality issues though now with a weekend of use. I have a gap in the corner by the power button and the screen. Not big enough to fit a finger nail but it will fit 3 posted notes thick in the gap. It runs about 3in down starting at that corner. Another one I ended up noticing just this morning while using it without the keyboard is that when holding it land scape and touching the screen about 3in from the left and 3in up from the bottom the screen makes a clicking noise every time. Just in that one spot. If I move a even a 1/4in any direction but that spot it doesn't happen. I don't even have to push that hard to cause it.
I love everything about this tablet so far but these two things really bug me. What has been the success rate at getting an RMA for things like this? Will they send me a new tablet first and then I can send mine back or do I have to send mine back and be without it for a few days?

IMO the click is a design flaw, every Pixel C I've had (I RMAd mine once) and basically read about has this click.
I'm on my second with the gap between the screen and case below the power button. Not great

Theses complaints of the tiny gap are pretty nit-picky, IMO.
I work on tons of devices as a part of my day job and you come to accept that there is a certain level of variation in literally everything. Nobody will notice that tiny gap but you and it literally does not affect the function of the device. I've seen plenty of apple products with the same kinds of inconsistencies.
Yes, these devices aren't cheap... but they're not a to be taken for granted either. My Pixel C has these gaps, and I still am enjoying the hell out of it. We are privileged to have such easy access to such awesome things nowadays.
#FirstWorldProblems
@Yadao, it's still a wonderful device, but there's no reason to accept poor build quality where one section does not fit with another. It should be às flush as it is around the rest of the screen. Anything less is faulty.

Hi, can anyone please share to me whats the name of this tablet ro.product.model and ro.product.device ? Thanks!
ro.product.model=Pixel C
ro.product.device=dragon
Hmmm if other have this gap even after RMA maybe it is not even worth trying then and is just an issue with the power button area.

I don't think it's a design flaw, as noone would plan for such an issue and mine does not have it at all! What I do have, however, is a nasty yellow splotch in the corner where the charging port is located. Got the RMA confirmation today and while I find Google's customer support in Germany is admirable, I'm not so impressed with the quality control of the Pixel C.
Not sure if this is the best thread to post this in but I didn't really feel it appropriate to start a thread on this.
Based on what I've read everything seems to be working well with the Pixel. I'm considering buying one but I've got one reservation: It uses an Nvidia SoC. I've struck out on multiple tablets using Nvidia chips - TF201 (Tegra 3), TF701 (Tegra 4), Nexus 7 (Tegra 3?) and most recently Nexus 9 (Tegra K1). Each tablet performed extremely well out of the box. I was very pleased for the first few months but eventually the "jank" came in. With the Asus tablets it was blamed on NAND flash speeds and other issues. I don't know what the excuse is for either Nexus' but my 9 stutters harder than my Snapdragon Nexus 7 2013. So far the only tablet to stand the test of time is my 2013 Nexus. The common theme here is Nvidia chips.
I'm looking for some level of assurance or confidence that this tablet won't go the route of my previous tablets with Nvidia chips. Obviously user experience right now doesn't tell me a lot because my tablets ran great for a while. Does anyone have any technical knowledge to clarify the issues with my previous tablets and explain what will keep this one from degrading the same way?
Apologies if this has been discussed in another thread. I tried to find something that answered my question directly.
Mine has started to reboot randomly since there last MM update :-\ will RMA potentially refund if it doesn't go away.
I'm feeling a bit meh about this tablet seems a lack of development going on...might just refund and grab a surface 3 pro.

You don't seem to be the only one suffering from that problem. To be fair, the Surface 3 Pro costs more than twice as much as the Pixel C. However, at some point one has to come to terms with the principle of "you get what you pay for". http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...om-reboots-after-the-may-over-the-air-update/
I must've hit the lottery because I got mine in December and I don't have a single issue with it.

Same here, running today Android N preview 3, never had any hardware or quality issues
I have the exact same clicking screen issue on the Pixel C that I received, sounds like it is in the exact same place as well. I contacted Google and they sent out a replacement without any questions and guess what, the replacement has the same problem only even louder, certainly seems like a design flaw and don't know whether I should bother trying for a 3rd unit.
On a side not my first replacement was lost in transit and Google customer service was terrible in dealing with that so hope nobody else gets faced with the same problem
My experience has been similar to most in this thread. I ordered the 64 GB version.
Device 1 - Worked fine initially, and then I noticed the clicking noise/tactile sensation on the left hand side of the device. I contacted Nexus support through chat and was sent a replacement unit no questions asked. When Device 2 arrived I began evaluating the two to decide which to keep. However, suddenly Device 1 began having severe display issues. Namely, the right hand side of the screen started showing a smeared jumble of pixels during boot up. Once booted up if I tapped the right hand side a few times the display would update to the current display then freeze again. This rendered the device unusable. Therefore for better or worse I had to use Device 2.
Device 2 - Out of the box I found Device 2 to have a loud clicking noise near the power led strip. I could actually feel the case flexing/clicking as well. Thankfully after a full charge that noise went away. Of course the left hand side of the device had the same clicking noise as Device 1. I contacted Nexus support over chat, and found them to be much less accommodating this time. I was told that the clicking noise was a part of the design and that it had no affect on the performance/quality of the device. I explained that I had a hard time accepting that considering the first device's touchscreen/display failed me shortly after I noticed the clicking noise. I requested a supervisor/manager contact. Initially the manager towed the same line and refused to do anything for me. I reiterated time after time that a 600$ device should not have case flex/popping noises. Finally I was offered a third replacement with the caveat that it could very well have the same clicking noise. This lead me to believe that the issue is widespread and google doesn't care much to fix it. I accepted the offer for a third device as long as I was assured the device would be NEW and not a REFURB/RETURN.
I'm currently awaiting the arrival of Device 3. I also have a Lenovo Miix 700 (Core m7, 8GB RAM, 256 GB SSD) I picked up from Costco for 799.99 which I am considering. If the third Pixel C has issues I may just stick with the Lenovo.
I also tried the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro S, but I found the keyboard/case's two positions to be unacceptable. Neither was comfortable for me, and the 4GB of ram with a core m3 was just not enough power for Windows 10 IMO. A shame considering the fit/finish was exceptional and the display was awesome.
In the end I may end up waiting for a new Surface model which features Type C, or a better Android tablet.
To those of you who have Pixel C units without clicking I an envious because other then that I really like the device. Though I am still puzzled by the lack of GPS/NFC functionality.

home button problem? need some advice..

Couple questions. Can anyone move their home button at all vertically? Mine does slightly only on the left side. Also if I just barely push/click it on the very right corner of the button I can make it click without a response however if I push it with normal force on the right it responds like normal. I can't do this on the very left side/corner. That side is very sensitive and if I barely touch it it responds. The feel/sound is a little different when I push the right side too. It's definitely a tighter fit on that side.
I'm wondering if I should go through the hassle of trying to get a replacement because of this. My s6 had a bad wobbly loose home button and it was annoying. I ordered my phone through Verizon customer service through an upgrade. If I want them to send me a new one they have to charge me $200 again and then when I send one back I have to wait 10 days for a refund.. And the closest Verizon store is almost 2 hours away
I'm also hesitant to swap bcuz first charge on this one and I'm already getting over 6 hours on screen time and I haven't even disabled any bloatedware yet. It however does have the gap/light leak all around but apparently majority of them have that. Advice? What would you do in my position? Thanks guys... Wish I could just get a perfect device for once.
I have been reading your multiple threads about your issues, I think you are not comfortable with the device and would advise you the get an exchange without hesitation. In my experience, when I start finding multiple flaws on anything, that is just my subconcious telling me I am not comfortable. Go get it exchanged, you will be much happier.

I also noticed the OP complainings. This is the best advice he can get.
Honestly I think most home buttons are exactly the same. I just have ocd and I'm anal over stuff like this. I notice little things that most people don't. It's just impossible to get a perfect unit. Every single one will have something it seems. There's nothing really wrong with it. I have to purposely barely press it in one side for it not to register. I might go to Walmart and see if they will show me a few units just to see if I find any better but idk. Performance wise this one has been amazing and the battery is blowing me away.

Dude, let me stop you right there. The best cure for this, after your medicine, is the following logic:
The reason you are freaking out is the excitement of a new gadget and you want it to be perfect. But everything that exists is flawed and nothing lasts.
Think how your phone will be worthless in one year when they will release the new Model with 4k Display, 806 PPI with awesome VR experience.
You won't give a damn sht about the home button on the model you are holding right now. In 5 years your phone will be as worthless as garbage.
Just enjoy your phone try new apps, and don't think about issues before they even exists. If one day your phone's home button stops working, then you will think about it.
gl dude!

screen burn in...

Hello guys, been fan of the google phones since nexus 5 and didn't have a chance to get one because there is no google store or any store with officially support to sell pixel phones. So i decided to get used one for 155 bucks... And i am disappointed, can't believe that guy that sold me this device didn't noticed screen burn in.. of course he will not accept refound, and on pictures from online store where i found this one it was impossible to notice that... My question is, is it worth to buy a new screen sice they are really expensive and it is difficult to replace it.. or use this phone just like it is till i decide to buy a new one... Any advice will be appreciated..
Beside this screen problem, i think pixel 2xl is great device, and man, i missed that stock android experience...it flies even it is almost 3 years old...
Edit: and screen burn in doesn't bother me so much, but this yellowish screen is really noticable... Screen image is like i have constantly night mode enabled...
And what can cause this defections of screen in this device...if it will come again with the new one it is definitely not worth to replace the screen..

Sorry for your bad luck, man.
I had bought a Pixel 2 XL back in February and recently dropped it, shattering the top of the screen. I thought about replacing the screen, but, since a screen replacement would cost just as much as another phone, I went ahead and found another one on eBay. The only complaint I have about the replacement I got is that it seems the battery has degraded more than the original one; 75% on the replacement and 95% on the original. I'm sure I'll have to replace the battery at some point.
The screen doesn't seem too difficult to replace though it does look like there are some sensitive spots you have to watch out for when disassembling.
If it's an option, I would bring it somewhere to get repaired, like Ubreakifix.

Thanks for your answer...
I see that price for pixel 2 screen is almost half a price of 2xl screen, so one more bad luck i think.. and in my country, repair shops are sh..t.. they don't repair phones that are not popular here, and google devices for sure are not..and if they do repair, they don't take responsibility if they damaging something else..
On eBay, as you said, price for the screen is almost a price of the another phone..
And didn't know that model from 2017 have this screen burn in problems... If i knew that, surely i would be more careful with buying... Bro i was really happy to get a Pixel device
So i think best option is to wait for some cheap pixel 2xl screen or device with broken motherboard and replace it myself... Have some experience, replaced screen on htc m8 (never again) and replaced battery on htc u11, it was pretty easy...
I have the same burn in like yours but i get used to it actually also to mention i use fullscreen gestures rather than navbar buttons, recently i found an app called display tester it has a mode called black & white bars i played it for lile 15 mins & it reduced the burn in effect for some time, give it a try
Burn in h putt to be more precise burn out) is normal.
I bothered Google so hard that they send me a me one and forgot to asked the plants one to be returned.
Anyway, I'm using the one and my father the other one, no problem.
I'm using gestures and pimped them with gestureplus (play store)
The display is always a bit yellowish and overall too dark.
My mother has an old Pixel (first gen), which was manufactured by htc, and that one has a brilliant Samsung display

Didn't helped but thanks for advice anyway... I ran those apps for few hours and nothing changed... I see screen replacement is not that hard, only thing remaining is to find cheap fully working display...till that i must use the phone just how it is

This is a problem with all the Pixel 2 XL and every other phone that has OLED screen. Some get it worse then others. And since Google used lower quality screens its more prominent on them.
But i had burn in on my Galaxy S3 my Nexus 6p and my Pixel 2 XL (2 of them)
I worked for ATT Wireless and Verizon Wireless for about 6 years and saw it on so many phones. from Samsung LG Google etc.

Could it be because of bad phone using... Because i had 10-15 devices, some was new some was used and never had this type of issue... And i use my phone a lot... But if i can expect this problem when i change the display it is better to buy another device...

This was an issue with the Pixel 2's from day 1.
Reporters and bloggers were tweeting they were having problems on launch day. It made google give out 2 year warranties on them in the beginning.
Google has always had an issue with screens all the way back to the Nexus 5. Esp when the phone is made by LG

Yep I did, but didn't know the extent. Took a big chance. Totally worth 99 bucks. Most of them "refurbished" therefore not rootable, are going for about 200+ still.
Darkmode and you can't see the burn in; "light mode" barely can see it. It's a verizon variant and ready to roll. I use Google FI and it, out of the box...was seamless to use with that service. The outside, chassis? MINT. Mint I say. Not even a micro scratch to be seen. It's almost like, judging by what the burn it says...it was a display unit in a small shop that never got actually touched by a finger.
Now that I think about it, there is no evidence it's a verizon variant. When I turned it on no verizon anything...no preinstalled VZW app, nothing. I updated it to 10, updated all apps on wifi, never asked for any VZW account or anything. Downloaded the FI app...and boom...esim was up and activated. Maybe the ebay seller thought it was a VZW one? I know Google made it pretty much in an unbranded state on VZW? Confirm anyone? lol anyway LOVE IT, until the 4a eventually comes out, then I'll get that.
UPDATE: yep a VZW variant...in dev options "allow OEM unlock" is greyed out. No biggie, no need for root imho with stock pixel experience. ADB sideloaded "11 Preview 4" and went smooth. It's nice.
