Screen Light up Notifications - Asus ZenFone 3 Deluxe Questions & Answers

i notice the light up screen notification isn't working (if yours is working without an APP, please let me know), for example if you get a text message or e-mail, so on. The phone should light up for that notification in the lock screen, etc, but it seems in this one it doesn't, the LED works for the color, but again since we can't change it for now. i find it the best way for now until then.
let me know if you have the same problem i have above.
To solve this problem, look on google play for Screen Notifications and that will fixed that problem. (i would write the source i got it from but i can't write URLs yet)

dont forget software

Hi
I am using the software dont forget to change the led blinking on my s620. http://magazin.softimage.cz/dontforget/app-description/
it works so far. the led blinks when i received an email. thats what i wanted.
but when i now read the mail, that the led does not stop blinking. i have to run the admin panel once more to reset it.
same on reminders. i miss them and the led blinks. i dismiss them and the led does not turn off. it remains blinking.
i am using htc s620 with wm6 original rom.
anyone knows the problem?
It used to work perfectly on my WM6 HTC WWE ROM, but now on Rogers the same problem. Sometimes it stops blinking when I open the last calls list and when I go trough all the messages, but I know that's not it.
Fortunately, Radim is working on a new version and seems it will be available soon.
If you want to help
Please simulate the behaviour we are talking about (e.g. LED keeps blinking even when all emails are read) and then do an export of following registry branches (incl. all sub-branches) from your device:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\State\
and also
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SoftImage\DontForget
and send it to me to.
Regards
Radim, author of the DontForget app.
Here you go my frined.
If there's anything I can do more for your app that is vital for my likeness of Dash, please contact me via PM and I will give you my e-mail
Yes.
- please describe what was wrong in the time you did the registry export (hoping you did the export when the app was in such state, you should do the export when e.g. the device is blinking and you already read/saw all missed events )
- And tell me the version of the DontForget you are using (in the About dialog).
Ok, I really dedicated myself on recreating the problem, and found that there is no problem. Actually, there is - because on this ROM LED starts and stops blinking as it should, but starting has a 10 seconds delay, and stopping even longer delay. But in the end, the LED seems stopped eventually; except if I'm wrong, but I will then report back (it seemed to me LED continued to blink for the rest of the day, but I cannot seem to recreate the problem any more...).
Ps. version is 2.01 in the About
i can reproduce it easily. I receive an email and read it and it does not stop blinking anymore.
i attached my regs in this state:
turned on phone today morning everything was fine. no blinking. i received an email. blinking. read it. blinking remains.
Same problem for me, as soon as i receive an email, the blinking starts and it doesn't blinking stop.

Please try these:
- choose "Test ..." in the Admin and tell me if the LED stopped blinking once the test is finished or not
- are you sure you did the export when the app was in the state we are talking about? You should do the export when e.g. the device is blinking and you already read/saw all missed events i.e. in the state DF behaves wrong.
first the version 2.01
second the notfication window. that doesnt pop up at all after i received an email.
third the test. it does not stop the led blinking after an email is received. just the apply and exit button fixes it.
yes, i exported the settings after i received an email and led was still blinking
Ok, just tell me.
If the device is still blinking (even there is no missed events), how it blinks? Still the same (fast) frequency as during the notification or a bit slower as usualy the device is blinking (e.g. when the option "Slow down LED blinking frequency" is off) ?
it seems, that it is the usual blinking. and not the faster notification blinking.
Ok, but you have "Slow down LED blinking frequency" option set to 0(off), right? So it looks DF is not running (or crashed probably).
Please try to enable the option "Show state icon" in the Admin and watch whether the green exclamation-like icon is still shown (on the top near to radio-signal icon, but not on homescreen). This icon should be green. Watch, when the e-mail arrives, if the icon is still there and if it is there once you have read it etc.
Give me a feedback then.
will it change color from green to red or something? i am kind of color blind...

The tray-icon (exclamation mark in a square) should normaly be green (red when the notification is disabled).
But most important is whether the icon is still there or not - regardless of the color.
yes, it remains there
i've got a problem with the Dont Forget software also... it keeps getting shutoff somehow?
I start it, the icon shows up... I exit out of the start menu, and lock my phone... not long later, i see my led flashing, i hit start, and the dontforget icon isn't at the top anymore, so i restart it, and it keeps happening... all this happens when i don't receive any calls or messages also.
I'm using the Rogers WM6 rom, not sure which version of dontforget... I'm testing to see how long it takes to shut off now..
I just reenabled it at 9:54a,
it's now 10:27a, and it's flashing... no messages or anything, just sitting idle DONTFORGET shut off
New version is out
DontForget 2.50 (Beta 1) is out
It took a bit longer than originally expected, but finally I finished new version announced early this year.
I'm sorry for delays and possible inconveniences, but now you can take a pleasure with the new DontForget 2.50.
Detailed information and download you can find at HERE !
Please check this version and tell me if the problems still persists.
Enjoy

Hi there,
is there anyway to have the software only notify me of new emails from my Outlook/Exchange mail?
I have POP accounts but they tend to have spam etc which i dont read.
So at the moment dontforget is notifying me of new email all the time, until i mark all my profiles as read.
thanks.

[Q] My trackpad light keeps flashing

Just rooted my phone and installed Cyanogenmod 7.0.3. Now for some odd reason, when I lock/turn the screen off on the phone the light around the optical trackpad keeps flashing every 10 seconds or so. I thought it was a signal light telling you that you have reception, but no even when I have zero bars it still flashes. Any suggestions on how I might make it stop flashing?

trackpad flash is for notifications, you may have an email, missed call, sms, mms, poke or tweet waiting to be read.

Your comment sort of traced the issue. I turned off "Pulse notification light" under Sound Settings -> Notifications and that stopped the light from blinking. However I want it to blink if I have something in need of attention, but I don't. I've checked Gmail, Email, K-9 Email, Google+, SMS, and Voicemail and there isn't anything.
It's also weird that the touch keys (home, menu, back, search) are always on when using the phone, I think before they didn't turn on unless I touched them but that's another thing.

Sometimes the light will bug out if you've had a lot of notifications and you've cleared them all at once or quickly. A reboot will fix it.
The touch keys lighting up are usually based on the ambient light sensor, which chooses whether or not its bright enough to warrant lighting up the keys to be easier seen.
Okay this is weird. The blinking stops after 10 minutes. I assume that's the threshold for the normal notification blinky otherwise it'll continue blinking if you don't check whatever was unread. For some reason its as if it thinks there is something unread everytime I unlock the phone and then lock it.

Hey there,
I'm having the same issue but never really tracked it down because I didn't care too much. But after reading this thread, I gave it another shot. Pulling down the status bar, it was the AlarmDroid-Entry (categorized as "Notifications", not as "Ongoing") that struck my eye. The way AlarmDroid (by default, see below) tells you about an active alarm is that it kind of posts a non-removable notification. I'd guess it keeps reposting it every few miliseconds via a service or something.
Turning the active alarms off does indeed eliminate the trackpad-flashing in my case, so I think this is more of an AlarmDroid and possibly other apps using similar status notifications issue than actually a cyanogenmod one.
Edit: just in case anyone reads this and wonders: AlarmDroid actually gives you the option to disable the notification behavior either by disabling the status symbol altogether or by putting it in the right side part of the status bar. See "General Preferences" -> "Display Settings" -> "Status bar symbol" for possible configurations.
Best Regards,
alturiak
Thanks for the reply ... I fixed it by installing Cyanogenmod 7.1 RC1. It was weird, I knew it was the ROM when I installed MIUI and then back to Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 and the flashing started happening again.
Also I don't use Alarm Droid ... either way, thanks for the reply.

[Q] Your experience with Lightflow?

I've read some people saying they have had really bad problems with Lightflow that affect things like booting their device while others have said they have had no problems at all with it. What is your experience with it?
The options for LED control sound awesome, but I'd prefer not to screw up my week-old GN if I can help it.
In my experience, it works flawlessly
I've never had any problems. I definitely suggest giving it a try. I'm sure you'll love it.
The only problem that I have is when I dismiss an notification, the light doesn't go off. It keeps blinking.
Eg. Facebook notifications. I swipe them in my status bar to remove them, but as soon as I lock my screen, the notification LED glows blue. It happens sometimes even if I read the message or notification in the app.

Now that you mention it, when I received an email through the Hotmail application the light would not go away unless I opened the app. That's the only flaw I've found.
The only issue I have is that you have to open the app for the notification to get rid of the blinking light. Everything else works fine for me.

Iirc, it happens that way because lightflow monitors the apps, not the system notification. Like the description says, if the app isnt in the lightflow monitoring list, you wont get an led light for it.

There's a couple o' spots in settings, one in general, and one for the specific app notification that should look after that.
i. e. Clear the light after opening status/notification bar.
@1LifeInAnalog on Twitter
I used to have it and had no problems at all. Worst case you can always just delete the app.
I rooted my phone and downloaded a custom rom and now don't need light flow anymore since the rom has custom notif. light set up.
Never had problems, I set it to dismiss notification with screen on so I don't have to open that certain app
I've had extreme display glitches. Upon boot my screen would flash a green/pink burst of static, and post light flow I haven't a single issue.
Try Liquidsmooth, the integrated led has all of the same features.

Have used lightflow in the past, worked flawlessly.

[Q] Notification light issues - can't tell what the notification is

Is there an app that will show me a list or log of apps that have triggered the home button notification light? Also, is there a list of what colors/flash patterns belong to which types of notifications? Rooting is not an option until my one year warranty is up and that's several months away.
Sometimes when I get a notification I'll go see what it is and clear it. The home button light stops flashing but then when Iput my phone to sleep the notification light will start blinking again. When I wake it up there's nothing in notifications and the home button stops blinking again but then it starts again when it goes to sleep. I've tried disabling different apps and have found what some of the notifications are but not all of them.
My wife and I use ICQ to chat since we've been on it so long and sometimes the phone tells me there's a new message when there's not. ICQ does a fast red flash on the home button so when I see it I have to open ICQ again and go to the chat a second time then back out all the way to clear it. That's not too bad because it's got a unique color and flash pattern so I know what it is.
Sometimes it's a blue light with a slower flash rate. I think that's for email but not sure since it's probably used by more than one app.
The one I can't figure out is a slow green flash. I've tried everything I can think of including force-closing every app and nothing makes it go away. Even rebooting doesn't fix it. It makes it impossible to tell if I actually have a notification unless the notification has a different color and flash pattern.
If there's an app or a way to see a notification history it would help me figure out why it's doing this.

Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull down notifications. The colors are usually set by each app in their respective notification settings. There's apps on the play store that can also help set colors but I think you need root. It's not hard to root and unroot though just don't unlock the bootloader.

Yeah, that's what I explained in my post. When I unlock my phone the home button LED turns off and when I swipe down to see notifications there are none, but as soon as I lock my phone it starts blinking again.
I just went through most of my apps and most have no options at all for the notify light. The only one that does is Facebook but the only option is for on/off and no option for the color. ICQ, GMail, and Outlook.com only lets me choose sound and vibrate. I don't think I've ever seen an app with options to select the color of the home button LED.

SMS notifications

HI everyone...
Got a bit of an odd one here, hoping someone can help.
For some reason, when the screen on my Sprint S6 is off, any SMS notifications get cut off (or I don't get them at all). I am expecting both an audio and/or vibration notification. If I turn my screen on, I will get the full notification as expected.
I thought maybe this was a problem with the DOZE settings, but I disabled YAATA from Battery Optimization, and it didn't fix anything.
Then I thought maybe it was a YAATA problem, so I went back to the standard built-in SMS app. Same results... either a cut-off, or no, notification when the screen is off, and a full notification when the screen is on.
Anyone have any suggestions on something else I could look at?
(For the record, I'm running stock, non-rooted Sprint S6...)
Much appreciated!
OK, after this has bothered me for MONTHS... I post here, and then figure it out.
I also have Glimpse Notifications installed on my phone. I just opened the app, and saw the following:
"Android Marshmallow sometimes cuts off notification sounds when the display turns on. In this case select Delay Screen On in the Extras menu."
... which, oddly enough fixed it.
I'll leave this here rather than delete it in case it helps others in the future.
