Type C to Micro USB adapter OTG - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Micro USB OTG cable and tried to use it with my Type C to Micro USB adapter for connecting a USB flash drive to my Nexus 5x. It fails no matter what I do.
Anyone have a clue to what the problem could be? Both the adapter and my OTG cable works fine separately.

I accidentally bought one that is just an adapter for charging, and had to get a different one that works for OTG. The one I have that works is on Amazon, here.

Not all USB C to micro USB adapter will work as OTG adapter. I have two adapters which can charge/data but not OTG.

I bought something like this. Looks like usb 3.0 (more pins) and its working fine.

I tried to do the same just as a test, and it also did not work. My usb c otg cable works fine tho.

Mini Usb to Micro Usb cable

hi,
because the sixaxis bluetooth app is broken on marshmallow, I found another app which works if I connect the phone with an usb cable.
but because a normal otg + mini usb is too long, I bought this one http://www.dx.com/p/mini-usb-male-to-micro-usb-male-retractable-data-cable-black-150021 .
unfortunately it doesn't work. is it because it's not marked as a otg cable?
would http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-10cm-Micr...e-B-male-Host-OTG-Adapter-Cable-/131629479801 work?
The first link is not an OTG cable. See the comments.
The second one states OTG and looks like mine.
I checked a tutorial for solding the 4. and 5. pin together, my father did it for me and now it function as an otg cable.

Usb otg and note 7

Is it possible on stock device? I have tried all my tricks, no luck so far. Thanks for any idea on how to make it work.

Using the usbc adapter. I have also tried fat32, the otg device is still not detected. I have tried stick mount but that fc instantly when I select mount.

Something wrong with your port? It works fine for me with the included adapter. Suggest you try on a store display model for comparison.

How it respond when u put it in?
All right. I am getting somewhere I think. Otg does work with the usbc to usb adapter (the big one). It's some long setup here as I have a microsdcard enclosure plugged into regular usb adapter (for pc) and now this usbc to usb adapter. But it works! However, the c to micro usb adapter (the small one) doesn't work unfortunately.

I was testing this today, trying to connect a USB memory stick, and it didn't work with the USB on the Go adapter
Note 7 might need something different to be compatible with USB sticks
Mine worked no problem. With USB to USB-c adapter I plugged in a USB stick and it came up instantly. I even have a 6 in one card adapter that's USB I put I an SD card plugged it in and it came right up. Now the USB-C to micro USB adapter is not OTG certified I had to by one off Amazon that was so I could use my seek thermal camera that is a micro USB camera. With the Samsung provided adapter it will not work.
Well I know last time i tested mine it work fine then I picked it up in a safe location just in case I need it and used the one I bought on ebay call Rankie. Imo it could be a bad port as mention, could be a bad adapter, or something else. I have not tested it with my microsd card adapter to the usb adapter....
Fyi...plug device into the connector first then plug the connector with device attached to the phone.

OTG on Bullhead rooted stock 7.1.1

So I got my Nexus 5x Bullhead. It's running rooted stock 7.1.1.
I read all over the Internet that it supports OTG. I've tried with both a Micro USB OTG cable + Type C adapter and a straight up Type C OTG cable, but it just doesn't work.
Ran stick mount and it found no mounts. Ran easy easy OTG checker, it shows no go.
Ran USB host diagnostics and it gave me this:
Can someone shed some light on the matter?
Maybe just your USB C adapter doesn't man OTG? Check if it works by computer to send files.
Yeah, the adapter could be charging only. But the dedicated Type C OTG cable should work, no?

The adapter send and receive data fine from/to PC.
The OTG cable does not work however.

One Plus 3T OTG and Micro USB to type C adaptors/ Oneplus3t OTG capabilities

I had some initial difficulty getting a micro usb OTG cable working, I ended up testing a few and thought I would share in case it saves anyone else some time or money.
if anyone else has adapters they've tried feel free to list them
I actually haven't tried a straight USB type C OTG cable yet, all have been micro USB OTG units with a micro USB to type C converter since I already had so many lying around.
First off I should mention not all micro usb to USB type C converters support OTG.
this Meenova one does and works with the oneplus 3t: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018G6IK7E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
with that converter pretty much any OTG adapter will work.
Charging also works.
This micro USB OTG adaptor is nice because its so low profile.
I tested it with a flash drive and it works fine with the Meenova adapter listed above.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0196FG4DG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This Samsung adapter also works well with the Meenova adapter, it has quite a few features which I tested on the Oneplus 3t, its expensive though so unless you have a Samsung tablet as well its not likely to be worth it for most people:
built in features:
two USB ports
Ethernet port
Charging port for simultaneous charging and OTG
On the Oneplus 3t both charging and OTG work fine but not at the same time.
whichever you plug in first is what it will use until you unplug and re-plug in the adapter.
That being said my understanding is that this is likely just a kernel limitation, it was the same way on the nexus 7 and a custom kernel enabled the simultaneous charging.
I'm not sure how useful that would be on a phone but I thought I would mention it.
Both USB ports work simultaneously, I connected two flash drives and both were picked up by the phone right away.
I wasn't able to get the Ethernet port working, or at least there was no indicator that it was working (My samsung tablet gives a notification that the Ethernet is plugged in but Samsung may have added that, I'm not sure) I'll play with it some more later.
Adaptor link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J2N0GB4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and lastly I tried this micro USB to type c adapter and charging works but OTG does not:

Thanks for your post about OTG adapters. Do you have any updates on this issue? I'm looking for possible adapters but cannot find any.
The Meenova adapter is not available in Europe and also seems not to be available from Amazon.com anymore. I can also disadvise from Anker USB adapter because it doesn't work.
What I'm looking for is an USB typ-C to microUSB adapter for audio output via USB.
Anker adapter supports dash charge (works with oppo vooc power bank). I am trying OTG now, but I have some cheap OTG dongle (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/5pc...G-adapter-for-HTC-for-Samsung/1734417126.html) and I am not sure if it works at all Anyway OTG via Anker is not working for me at this moment.

My adapter didn't work either. I bought a special cable, which works.
Buy a USB Type-C to USB-A female adapter, those microUSB to USB Type-C doesn't work with OTG.
