EyeballSDK.cfg? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

I have this on the root of my storage and I have no idea what it is or does. There is also a folder EyeballSDKLogs. Am I the only one?

Can you be more specific as to the location of that file? Where is the "root of my storage"?

Thats from some app you downloaded. I definitely don't have that. Did you download a VOIP app or messaging app? Verizon Pixel?

Only hangouts

A Google search indicates it may (or may not) be related to Eyeball Chat.
Do you have any video chat on your phone?
Maybe some online based school apps?

LOL nope I saw that as well.... Strange

I was looking at my file explorer and noticed this too.
Do you have any VR applications installed?
Do you have any SDK installed?
Do you dl music/ movies etc?
Any unknown sources downloaded?
Or visit sites like Bluelight/DMT nexus/pill reports/shroomery/ Stuff like that?
How about Skype?
Sorry this is literally a new pop up and im noticing alot of the questions about this have been posted recently. please answer as detailed and turthfully as possible

I do have vr camera installed. Not much else. I deleted the folder and file to see if they pop up again.

I had installed samsung ipolis at one time.

Anyone come up with any more information on this? Just came across it on my own phone today. Google search turns up a few other posts about it but no info on what it is. I am suspicious that it *might* be associated with the DirecTV app because I just downloaded it today and then happened to notice that folder in / with a last modified timestamp of today. Other than that I have nothing to go on.

I suspect it's some 3rd party tool that many different software vendors will use.
Kind of how like everyone uses Flash or Java for something or other.

After deleting, it was consistently recreated shortly after rebooting. Using this behavior and after much trial and error I found that if I disabled storage permissions for the Directv app it would not be recreated. I don't know yet if it has an adverse effect on the app to leave the permission disabled. I wonder if it is related to the app's commication with the receiver since many of the references to eyeball sdk when googled are related to messaging. Just a thought with no hard evidence.

About the file EYEBALLSDKLogs. I just got the Samsung S7 and also the Galaxy Tab E on promo deal, but my husband and I both have S5 Actives that we have used for a little over 2 years now. Best phones we've owned BTW! Any who, before downloading any apps to either one of the new ones, I of course played with them a couple of days to get used to the features and see what was new. Tab E is pretty much a big version of S7 phone. They both had this new file that stuck out like a sore thumb considering the name of the file is a bit funny, but this file hasn't ever been on our other devices and we had the different messaging apps, I had a couple VR apps but deleted Ayer a few days & this particular file has never shown up. I did notice the DIRECTTV App was already pre-installed on the S7 and Tab E so it's very likely that's were this file is coming from. I just don't understand why after using the Directtv App it shows the file size with 50mb instead of 00.0 before use, but no extensions to the file when I click on it. I did delete it but as soon as I opened the DirectTv app, Viola' it's back.

Similar files
Had similar files on my stock LG tribute HD. Undoubtedly picked them up after getting greedy and down loading free cracked/nodded app not from playstore. Found this searching. Idk but it appears to be a p2p, remote client app. Have not checked Hybrid Analysis site for review yet but will.
*cannot post link as this is my first xda post. The site that has the developers description is slides hate.net eyeball-messenger-sdk-v100
Woukd like to hear input as this raises concerns and is suspicious in nature. Thanks

Hello, I just wanted to chime in and say thay I think it has something to do with the Directv app. The DVR portion in particular. I noticed when I tried viewing my dvr on the app, it had a quick view feature and it must have created that folder because I noticed mine after I was messing around with the Directv app.

I don't know what I had installed for this to happen, last programs I installed from the market before this happened was two airhorn apps. It added fake search and market widget. Changed my homepage URL.
I thought this happening us pretty wild on a cell phone.. I also have bitdefender security installed.
So I don't know what gives. Thought I post to give heads up.
.: sent from my Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch :.
bit defender is about worthless and is a resource hog to boot.
I just noticed the Home page in Stock Browser changed to the same.
Did not install any new apps from Market or anywhere else in about a week, just did some updates yesterday.
I have Lookout installed, will do a full scan and look around in TiB for any new apps installed (by Date)...
Weird
It's probably a library packaged within an app that pushes ads and garbage to your device. MP3 Downloader is one of the biggest offenders in sending random ads to your notification bar even when you're not using the app.
This is your best bet in finding the offending app: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.denper.addonsdetector&hl=en (Addons Detector)

Badass thanks for the links
.: sent from my Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch :.
My browser was redirecting to: "http://start.infospace.com/?sourceid=6&app=13]....".
Ran 'Addons Detector' and 'AirPush Detector' to find out if one of these AirPush addons is in one of the apps.
With Addons Detector I used the filter 'Push Notifications', did not detect anything.
Had to clear Cache and Data in Settings>Applications>Internet to get back to be able to set my home page to google.
Now after a reboot, so far so good. Still need to figure out what rogue app did this!
[EDIT] Found this thread:
http://androidforums.com/android-ap...rt-infospace-com-has-hijacked-my-browser.html
always always always read a ton of reviews, download count and permissions carefully.
i wont even touch stuff like fart or airhorn,downloading apps(wallpapers,ringtones,mp3's) for this very reason. also another reason to carefully and frequently logg and monitor system activity and background activity. this is also why i strip down my system folder,etc to avoid any risk... every app running could be seen as a potential victim of an exploit. so far my paranoia has led to absolutely no problems, although i have seen some strange activity before for instance. infinite black a game i used to play would always be running in SERVICE mode in the background NOT cached this would be the type of behavior that should warrant removal.
My wife got some airpush crap on her phone from the latest update to the LivingSocial app. She uninstalled it and the notifications have seemed to go away. :fingerscrossed:
Always mark apps using airpush as malware, one star and say so in the comments to discourage devs from using it.
I guess that we are finally starting to see the downsides of Google's quick app approval process (as compared to iOS). Let's hope that the big G does something to thwart this nonsense sometime soon, but in the meantime, the best weapon on our side is knowledge. Make sure you know which app is causing this unwanted behavior, help your friends learn how to detect which app is the culprit, and urge them to uninstall/rate as needed.
I've only ran into one so far, MP3 Downloader, which was promptly uninstalled despite it's generally awesome usefulness.
I can't wait until root apps start messing with the hosts file. That's when the really fun redirecting starts!
Install and use these:

I'm also one of the victims for the start.infospace.com malware and im using the international GS2. My suspect is that i got infected after i installed this app called "Deal or BE Millionaire". Search shortcut has been created on my homepage instantly after i installed that app (Deal or BE Millionaire). Few days later (normally i would use opera mini as my main browser), when i opened up the stock browser, i was directed to the start.infospace.com URL instead of my actual homepage which is google. I found it strange that my stock browser was hijacked so i looked around the web for insights and this was what i did which seems to resolve the issue. Delete all the shortcuts created by the malware app, reset the stock browser to default, and also go to manage applications and clear data for the infected app (in this case it was "Deal or BE Millionaire" for me), and finally uninstall the app and reboot phone.
Funny I'm reading this now as about 30 min. ago my wife installed a live wallpaper on her phone and an ad popped up on her home screen. I uninstalled the live wallpaper & it went away.
Not sure if this will help but should do. Gemini app manager which I got off the market will show you exactly what each app on your device can access and detects advertising code etc in them as well so should be able to help narrow down apps causing issues.
As regards ios approval process stopping malware, while it it is better at it than googles process you can still get malware on ios via the market as evidenced by the report at november www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-15635408 as they changed the market last year and malware got on it undetected and was working on non jailbroken devices.
I hate spam but have been lucky and worst I had is those ones that send notification messages. I refuse to use apps that use that advertising method as to me ads should be in the app rather than spam your notification bar.

For the time being I can at least take comfort in the fact that removing any suspected malware, adware or supposed virus off our devices is an easy fix. Unlike my windows based pc.
I've pointed this out on another section of this site when I had my Evo: But why do antivirus/malware apps made for Android only scan an app after its been installed, shouldn't it be scanned prior to installation? Or am I missing something here?

AirDroid: For the MTP haters and people who want a better way to access their data

Honestly, i couldn't be more impressed with this app. Not only does it use no data since it goes through your wifi network, it transfers insanely fast. I transferred a 200MB wmv file in under a minute. like most of you i have had some MTP issues where things have transferred very slowly, and this was much faster.
Additionally, where as MTP will sometimes load no thumbnails of your images making it very difficult to find which one your looking for, airdroid loads them all.
it also allows you to access your contacts, sms (and even send sms!), as well as full access to the entire internal memory. You can even see all of your installed applications as well as uninstall them (requires confirmation from the phone).
honestly, i'm incredibly impressed with airdroid, and considering it's free, even more so.
just figured since i've found this app so incredibly useful, i thought it would be best to spread it around here.
i'm not the developer or anything like that, i just found it and loved it. don't think i'll ever connect my phone to the computer again.
Thanks! Nice new tool,appreciate it

Are you running ICS? I only ask bc in the market description it says there are some problems with ICS. Any truth to this? With the ratings this app has gotten, I think I have to give it a go. Over 5000 of 6000 gave it 5 stars!

Been using it since I got the GNexus. Great app, haven't had any FC's at all. Only issue (not sure if it's universal) is that WiFi transfers do not work with the screen off for me, but beyond that, its great for quickly dropping in files to the phone. Great browser interface for the most part as well.
@nweaver: considering i'm posting this in the galaxy nexus forum, and i say i have a galaxy nexus, and the galaxy nexus can only run android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, then yes, i'm on ICS.
And yes they say they have problems with ICS, i haven't noticed any. And if you look at the reviews for the galaxy nexus then they're almost all 5 stars.
@Jebus: strange that transfers don't work with the screen off, they work just fine for me. transferred pictures and videos with the screen off. I noticed in the battery that while it's running it keeps the phone awake, for obvious reasons, it's possible that your rom or some app is interfering with it, and stopping it from having the phone awake even though the screen is off.
*edit* Oh yeah 1000 posts!
This looks great. Gonna download it and have a play. Wasn't too impressed with MTP so hopefully this is an adequate replacement. Accessing contacts and texting etc. is a nice extra perk too!
Just one bug so far...
The only bug I've found so far is that I fail to receive the new sms text notification on the web interface and that I have to manually refresh the conversation window - I'm using Chrome. Anyone else have this problem?
Other than that it's a great app - can't believe I didn't come across this sooner!
How is this AirDroid different from MyPhoneExplorer? Not beeing sarcastic just asking a legitimate question.

after looking around, airdroid looks a lot nicer, and runs in the browser instead of a separate app. aside from that they're very similar but myphoneexplorer has some more features for syncing and other things.
personally, airdroid is better for file management because of the simple windowed design, and full working thumbnails, and that it works right from your browser, so no extra application to install. aside from that, MPE is better in a few ways. i think it'll come down to your preference and what you need.
personally i'm using this for moving pictures and other files too and from the device since i can actually see thumbnails through this and not through MTP.
I was not aware that such things existed. My compliments to the chef!
I'm also a big fan of this app. A little slower than USB but much easier, especially in Linux. Two things I'd like to see though: Downloaded files, are in a generically named zip file, it would be nice for them to at least have an appropriate name. The other thing that would be nice is a Chrome and Firefox extension to automatically connect, so we don't have to type in a different address every time.
I was having major problems with MTP and downloaded this on my first night with my Gnex.
Amazing and saved me from much frustration. Awesome app!
Cant get airplay to work at all
just says waiting ... tried in IE and Chrome.
@wilbur-force: don't forget to activate it in the phone first. and it works perfectly in firefox.
It runs like a champ in chrome for me
Nook Color ICS Alpha for CM9 & AirDroid
My Dell Studio Win7 64 laptop has not been able to succeed in loading MTP or PTP drivers for my Nook Color ICS Alpha for CM9 from XDA. I was having to pull the SD card to transfer CM9 update zips to my NC. AirDroid saved the day (week).
Thank you!
Also loving this app.
The only thing that bugs me is (and maybe I am doing it wrong?) that when I upload for example a picture to my wallpaper folder on the phone Airdroid creates its own "wallpaper" folder for only the files I just uploaded instead of dropping the uploads into my already existing "wallpaper" folder that I initially selected as the upload destination.
So when I go into the gallery (stock) on my phone later on I have two folders named "wallpaper"
Anyone else running into this?
My "wallpaper" folder is a subfolder of my "pictures" folder on the root directory of the phone.
thanks ill give it a go
I use Websharing. It is a paid app, but let you use webdav protocol. (I can access phone storage as a network share).
Also, I can stop the service. Airdroid 1.0.6 removed this option. Waiting a fix to start using it to decide between webshare and airdroid.
i personally use it on my mac and it's very useful and save my a lot of time.

FTV Fixes For Rooted Users

This is for all of those things that make Fire TV irritating at times like the frustrating search keyboard that always pops up when using a browser.
There has got to be an app or service you can disable to make the onscreen search keyboard stop appearing so we can seamlessly use any web browser uninterrupted.
Maybe we can also get a different onscreen keyboard that can be toggled if needed for whatever reason.
Whenever a fix for removing the onscreen search is found,or if it was already found,please post it in this thread with instructions on how to do it.

There's an app called Null Keyboard but without the ability to select a different keyboard It's not usable. :/
Seems a bit pointless to mention it at all,in that case. lol
Just want to sedate the onscreen search box.
The biggest drawbacks are that you can't go back to a certain word to edit it,and you can't hit enter to make a new line for more sentences.
It also automatically reloads the page in flash browser,and it always randomly appears in FireFox simply because a search bar exists on the webpage you navigated to and it also manipulates the page when backing out,thus opening again immediately when the page loads again,possibly trapping you in an infinite loop unless you press the home button to leave it entirely.
In some cases,it can be inescapable even after typing something.
Another thing to fix by changing it is microphone acccess for apps that utilize it.
I don't know if this can be fixed wthout getting something custom.

That is pretty interesting. The last part (patterns) looks like it whitelists anything for amazon. Wonder if we can just use "*" and have every installed app show?

edit3: nope.

There seems to be a relation to the Amazon vs Google Play Store.....

Where are the strings coming from with the question marks in them? I doni't see them in the JSON file.
I tried appending org.xbmc.xbmc to the list with no effect.
I think a JSON call is some flavor of database call, and what the list is really saying is "these apps can make that call."

That is pretty interesting. The last part (patterns) looks like it whitelists anything for amazon. Wonder if we can just use "*" and have every installed app show?
edit: nope, wildcard didn't work.
edit2: maybe the pattern needs to be "*\.*\.*"?
edit3: nope.

I just thought it was striking that the google play store url was so similar to the the listed amazon packages, thought that might give a opening to change "amazon" into "play.google" somewhere to get acces to google instead of amazon apps directly.

It has nothing to do with urls. Those are the package names and the developers just decided to name their packages in a way that you can tell if it was from Google or Amazon. Also, the "Your Apps Library" will only show apps in your Amazon Cloud. You'll notice if for some reason the Fire TV can't connect to the Internet, every menu is empty. It's all loaded with content directly from Amazon. I have an idea for an xposed module to add an extra row to show sideloaded apps in the Apps menu, but it'll be a little tricky.
If it has an app,we need to know what the name is for the onscreen search box so it can be disabled for web browsers and other things it causes major problems for.
It has simethis to do with kiwi.. Look at what in the amazon apps apk.. Its got kiwi stuff and other files..

Are you sure about that?
I personally thought its the whitlist for the WebView/WebChromeClient. Noticed that the AFTV blocks externals links, but not from these apps (tested hulu+ and vevo).

NEW YouTube for Android TV 2.0?

Has anyone yet figured out how to either find or port the "NEW YouTube for Android TV 2.0" x86 APK to an ARM APK? We have waited over a year for a new version, yet its only for x86. It is disturbing that this new YouTube version is not available on the SHIELD TV almost immediately.

You've waited a year, you can wait some more. APKmirror is probably the place where it will show up first.

Yeah lets hope so. And no I didn't wait a year. I flashed Full Android on mine so I wouldn't have to wait for newer YouTube versions any more. It was the only reason I went to FULL Android because the Youtube for Android TV was really showing its age and crashing all the time. You pay a premium for a premium device, so you should expect a premium experience in return. Otherwise they are not doing their jobs.
What's interesting is that this youtube 2.0 UI is exactly how youtube looks like on my old and loud Xbox360!!

Yeah some say it looks like the HTML Smart TV version below. I'm not so sure until I actually see it on my SHIELD TV.
https://www.youtube.com/tv
So it can't be ported to arm format?
I have this new format on my Smart TV, and it may well do away with that crappy Red Bar that pops up when you try to pause on something. But that said, the new Layout sucks donky balls. And Google can take their sweet gentels with porting it to the Shield.
Though I have to say (Even given the decentralized nature), of my Smart TV), I'm kinda shocked the OEM has even botherd. Considering the TV was sold in 2015. And, picked up about a year ago on clearance. But it was hard to say no to a 50" 3D 4k LED set. Even if the Smart TV bits of it tended to also suck.

Good question. Maybe it is exclusive to the Nexus Player. Or they are just testing it on the NP before releasing it to 3rd party devices. Who knows? Without an official statement of what's going on we can only speculate. I guess Android TV must not be very big or as important of a platform to warrant updates.
apk for arm device is available on apk mirror (v2.00.17):

Someone was looking at this threat actually was looking for some tutorial in how to port it, but google has done the work for us, we should thank them
Yeah they were working on it all along but released the x86 version first for some reason. Maybe the arm versions had a must fix first before release bug?

Really I don't like very much this new version, I don't know about you, but the app crashes when you try to type anything on video search.
No crash for me
But option to change quality video is gone:crying:
The user reviews are in the toilet as well. I'm no longer in a hurry to try it. However I can't get last year's YouTube version to not crash either. It's easily the #1 most unstable app I use by far.

I updated it and hated it and immediately rolled back to the old one. My problem is I got 2 Youtube accounts associated with my Google account. My primary account I created about 10 years ago with all my subscriptions and the G+ one it forced me to create a few years back, which I don't use.
Under the old app, it allowed me to select the account I wanted to use:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Under the new account, it won't allow me to select the account I want, and only shows the G+ account saying my other account isn't available.
I downloaded and installed it and I hated it as well... There's no rolling text on the thumbnails so you have to open each video just to read the full title... no comments as well, no add to watch later no anything good... rolling back to the old version as this one sux.

New app is ugly and slow (everything seems to require more clicks to get there).
Besides the ability to select resolution being removed, many Sony TVs lost the ability to play 4k (they locked it to a max of 1440p).
This version is going to need some work.

Do we really believe Google will be working on it??? :/
Yeah, and not only that, when I updated to the new Youtube app it used my "original" Youtube account before Google bought them out. So hundreds of my subscriptions and all my proper recommendations were missing and I couldn't recognize my own Youtube channel. It was like starting all over again on Youtube from scratch. And worse still, it wouldn't even offer me the ONLY account I ever use, yes the same one I have been using every day since Google bought Youtube, it was completely missing as an account option.
So I was forced to reset back to the original Youtube app and it immediately offered me and connected to the proper account. Is it really this hard for a multi Billion dollar corporation such as Google to code these apps?
I sort of meant someone HERE might take a look under the hood.

LG Update Center - Possible Malware?

Hello everyone,
I am not as well versed with electronics like a lot of you seem to be, I have ran into an issue and I was told to go on this forum.
So my phone is an LG G8s ThinQ, and I was browsing the web on my phone yesterday until I suddenly got the notification that there are 15 new updates available. I thought that was weird since my phone got system updates like once a year or something. I went to the Update Center app and took a look, these alleged 15 updates were downloadable game apps. In Update Center there should only be like 3 or 4 downloadable apps, which are preinstalled anyway, Facebook, Instagram and some LG Bloatware.
And these 15 games suddenly available seemed a bit sketchy to me.

(Herunterl. means download, Install. means install)
So I let Malwarebytes scan my phone and it didn't turn up anything. I also searched for apps manually that could be malicious, but I didn't find anything either. Never downloaded anything on my phone after my phone's last hard reset. Never done anything sketchy with it. Mostly use it for YouTube, browsing and Whatsapp, that's it.
So I hard reset my phone in order to get rid of that, who knows what caused this issue and what it was doing with my phone. But after hard resetting the update center app again showed 15 available updates. I hard resetted several times, it persisted.
So I became curious and downloaded a few of these game apps. A few of those games you can play immediately after downloading, some others you need to download the app from update center, then the phone opens Google Play and redirects you to a download page for the app... but for some of these games Google Play simply shows an "error" page, these games are not even on Google Play - super sketchy.
(An error occured, please try again)
I played some of those games (the ones I could download fully), and they worked normally as I would expect. After trying them out, I downloaded Malwarebytes and let it scan my phone - and it detected something malicious and uninstalled it!
I hard reset my phone, I am using it still, but with caution. Update Center still keeps showing these downloadable apps and sends notifications from time to time.
So is LG Update Center hijacked? Why is it promoting these weird apps? Is that malware? What is it doing? Is it spying on my phone?
Without downloading any of these apps Malwarebytes isn't detecting anything malicious after scanning... but I don't necessarily trust that. Who knows what is causing this issue and what's going on in the background.
I asked an IT guy I know and he told me that I should be cautious and it would be best if I either installed some custom ROM or bought a new phone alltogether...
I think this whole thing is super sketchy and I wanted to share it with you all, maybe someone here can explain.
Best of love everyone!
Likely an app you installed.
Which OS version?
Anything below Android is suspectable to Xhelper, a factory reset will not eliminate it.
Honestly I can't recall having installed any app lately. And I definitely didn't download any apk apps from the internet or anything like it. Phone runs on Android 12. I read about that xhelper thing, sounds scary .
I was browsing the web, reading about celebrity scandals on some websites when it happened. Maybe those websites infected my phone in some way, is that possible? I put some of the websites and articles I could remember through VirusTotal, but nothing came up on it.

It seems like there are some other phones from LG that have similar issues, but besides this single post and another (I believe already deleted??) Reddit post I can't find anything to go on. Another G8 user commented on Reddit saying he doesn't have any issues.

A factory reset would purge Xhelper on 12.
It may have come through as an update for a "clean" app. Payloads are sometimes delivered like that. I don't allow apps to update.
All my games are always firewall blocked as are any apps that don't need internet access to function.
Check the download folder daily for files you didn't download especially when visiting questionable sites. Delete any unknown files.
Get a good firewall to see what's doing what.
Set up free NextDNS to further control internet access and use Brave browser.
Those two options may shut it down entirely but try to find the root cause.
Play with it.
A 3rd party rom isn't needed and may cause more issues. At the worst reflash the stock rom but that shouldn't be necessary at all.
I have the exact issue,
Is there a way to track what apps was updated this saturday? Can be done on PC-systems but not andriod?
Secondly can the install program list be cleared manually somehow?
I am not a big phone user, havent installed any apps for months and havent used the phone for since last week. Still got this crap so I suspect some ap.
The is a LG G6, seem unlikley to be a push from LG. Avast AV-scan found nothing strange.
All games pushed seem to be made by "gameloft"
Update:
I also made a post on Reddit and it seems like this issue has happened to a few other LG owners as well, but not everyone.
Antivirus scans didn't turn up anything so far. From time to time, Update Center still reminds me of these sketchy updates, but I just ignore the notifications. Besides that, nothing suspicious has happened. Battery life is normal, no suspicious downloads or anything...
(On rare occasions phone is a little bit laggy for one or two seconds but that's maybe just age or whatever, I dunno, nothing concerning to me at least, just something I noticed).
I planned on writing an eMail to LG but I still didn't do it cause I forgot, going to do that soon (I hope that they will actually answer).
And I didn't mess with NextDNS or firewall cause I didn't really have the time yet to do so.
