Zenfone 2 60fps video recording support? - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if there is an app/mod that supports recording of 60 fps video at 720/1080p on any model of the zenfone 2? The stock phone does not support recording above 30 fps even though the hardware of the phone supports it as pointed out here, "there’s no [email protected] option even though the Toshiba rear camera supports it".
From some googling it appears the Zenfone 2 uses a Toshiba T4K37 CMOS sensor, which natively supports both 1080p and 720p 60 fps recording.
I looked around the forums already and haven't seen anything about this, has anyone gotten it to work?

I think it's only 30 fps. I'm not sure though

I'm gonna edit my post, I meant to state that I own a Zenfone 2 and am trying to get 60fps recording working. Thanks for the quick response though!

The problem should be the Intel Z3580 that supports only 30 fps.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly does this mean? That the decoding capabilities of the processor don't support 60 fps?
"Intel has surprisingly little information on the video encoding and decoding abilities of the Atom Z3580. Since the CPUs remain at their idle frequency during video playback, it appears the ZenFone 2 uses fixed-function hardware (instead of software decoding which uses the CPUs) for H.264 video decoding, saving power." (From the Tomshardware Review)

Exactly, we talked about this when the phone came out 1 year ago, and this was the idea... Asus also added slow motion in Asus camera, but apparently there is no way to increase to 60fps.

So the short answer is that the hardware actually doesn't support it due to a cpu limitation? To be clear, this means that no app or mod (cyanogenmod etc.) could possibly allow you to take 60 fps video?

Ok... so would you be kind enough to elaborate? The point of this thread is to find out if there is anything I can do to be able to take 60 fps video on an Asus Zenfone 2, so if it is possible do you know how?

I don't know much about Intel SOC but had a quick look at the zenfone 2 kernel https://github.com/sayeed99/LPGFX_C...rivers/camera/drivers/media/i2c/t4k37/t4k37.h
It seems all that's needed is a custom kernel with the 60fps register added to the video configuration near the end of the file. Alternative is to replace 30 fps register with 60fps and have 1080p video running at 60fps all the time

Great, so has anyone tried this before? I'm sure if the phone has been out over a year now there must have been some attempts right?

the CPU supports 1080p 60 encode
I can't post link here.
google image with z3560
you can see even merrifield(dual-core atom uses same architecture of z35xx)
supports 1080p 60 encode
maybe another limit exists
(eg : thermal, battery(power) or data link bandwidth between camera and board)

Probably other components of hardware/software on our device that prevent the function from being available.

Is this technically misselling?

Movies.
Not only watch movies, but make them also with the HTC Desire. HD (High Definition) video capture lets you capture special moments as they happen in brilliant high definition.
It's not HD (at present)
where did you get that info from?

Yeah but if we have to add software to the phone, is this not going to further limit the available space on the phone meaning removing a number of apps?
The phone memory capacity is so poor can it really work without Google allowing apps on memory cards to work?
I think Play have just printed the incorrect specs.
No one from HTC has said any 720P recording updates as far as Im aware.
don't forget that anything above 425 lines is legaly defined as hd. at 480 they are technically correct. bloody cheeky but correct.

Standard Def TV in the UK is already 576 lines, I think you will find that the HD Spec lists 720 lines as a minimum for HD TV so I would therefore expect that when referring to video playback and recording the 720 lines mininmum would still apply.
I think that in the phone industry though it is quite common to call a screen resolution of 480 lines HD just to add confusion
i think rather it is just Play getting it wrong.
Phones4U also say something similar instore (not checked online).

Lol! How suprising! They'll say anything to sell a phone!
I'd rather they just made video recording at 30FPS rather than the crappy 20FPS that it is now. It's *extremely* stuttery in video mode. A weak LG Viewty from 3 years ago could record at 120FPS , why does a snapdragon powered phone in 2010 record at 20 FPS?

It's supposed to be 30fps, at a higher resolution, and presumably greater bit depth. Are you recording to sd card or internal memory?

also noticed a bug where sometimes it records video but with a pink filter colour, weird.

1080p HD recording for Epic 4G

I've been seeing alot of the newer android phones getting an app to replace the other camera app that allows 1080p HD video recording. Theoretically this should be an easy accomplishment for some one to make this .apk. however its yet to be investigated. So if anyone has any idea if this is possible or even if there is already a way to get 1080p recording please let me know! =D
Thanks,
Aaron
if this could be done i would give 20 bucks but i think its a hardware limitation that software is unable to overcome.
Those phones have different processors, camera sensors and other variations. I seriously doubt this will be coming to the Epic any time soon.
Doubtfull.
I may be wrong but I think we are limited to the 720p because of our single core precessor. If you look all 1080p phones they are dual core phones. So hardware is the limiting factor.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
According to the wiki, the camera on the Epic can only record up to 720p. Achieving 1080p could only be accomplished by scaling our videos on a computer after they are recorded.

Yes sir.....our phones need more horsepower, but how much more? There are some overclocked single core chips that can match or exceed duel core chips. Would an overclocked Epic @ 1.3 or 1.4ghz be able to accomplish this? Our Hummingbird chipsets have outstanding graphics processing capabilities. However, Samsung has been really lacking on their software part to push these phones to their full potential
Seems to me this is more a memory bus bandwidth issue than it is processor muscle. In theory a modest processor could deal with a very hi resolution video source if the compression method is efficient enough. The issue is having a wide enough bus to move that much raw video.

I understand the want to go bigger and better. But I made a 2minute video of my daughter splashing in some puddles at 720 and it was over 50mb! Try emailing that to grandpa. I had to upload it to dropbox and send out a link only.
I've actually scaled my video res down since then. Also, being on sfr my videos record in MP4 format, which is sweet.

Is the Z5 Premium capable of 4K HDR ? (10 bits)

Is the Z5 Premium capable of 4K HDR ? (10 bits)
I'm a bit skeptical about that since Sony had to downgrade to a 1080p that supported HDR to implement it, I can't really find any specifics or technical details on the display so I can't confirm if it's truly a 10-bit panel but most likely not.

Yes even in rumors Xperia X Premium has got a HDR screen but in 1080p. I tried different app to play 4K 10 bits, but apparently there's no way to make it works actually
Don't know if it's due to hardware or software, because I can't find technical details to know the minimum requierement to be able to play 4K 10 bits

960 fps and 4k 60 fps?

Just saw a video posted by "pocketnow" on LG G7 camera review. At 4:57 mark, he said there were new addition(960 fps slow mo, 4k 60fps) from OTA updates since his original phone review 2 months ago. Is it true cuz i cant find it on web.
Video link- Hmm, seems i need 10 posts. Better PM me if u cant find on YT, or just search on YT and you'll have it.
Saw the video and yeah I can confirm that the phone can shoot 4k at 60 fps with the new OTA update but I just tried recording a slow motion video and it's just at 240 fps and I can't seem to find the 960 fps option.
You mean the video of Jaime Rivera? He doesn't know what he is talking about, the g7 doesn't have 960fps at 720p, just tested and it's 240fps.
I don't even have the 4k 60fps option.

That's because your phone is not on the last Ota update
The reason that the phone can't shoot in 960fps is because there's no dedicated chip for it. For example Samsung uses dedicated fast storage chip to store the footage of the video and then transfer it to the main storage. LG doesn't have that chip plus the sensor only officially supports 240fps 720p but I noticed that it also supports 1080p 240fps .
Why we don't have that option is a mystery.

Anyone else think that [email protected] is disappointing.. Lots of jello and inaccurate focusing. [email protected] send a more consistent option, tried to upload to you tube with 60 and it looked awful!

Personally I prefer 4k 60fps. From what I recorded it seems stable and I have no problems with it.
Edit: here's a link of what the camera module is capable of: https://www.google.bg/url?sa=t&sour...FjAAegQIAxAB&usg=AOvVaw3vRFp9OMzb9J76fPbULXws

960fps LOOOL
From where did OP pull this 960 number from? Does he even know how ridiculous it sounds in terms of fps?
Guys, can we be more respectful? I think OP is asking for video recording with 960 fps (super slow-mo). Sadly, Whyred supports recording only up to 60fps.

I think the most it can do is 480Fps from some version of Gcam (I use the one that came with Havoc v2.6, i guess).
i think what op means is: is there are any ways to boost the slowmo performance just like high end devices that can handle up to 960fps. even though i highly doubt about that.

You are wrong with that 60fps part, I can do 1080p120 without problems, 720p240 works fine to...
