Hello.
I am a Noob. I would like to root my phone due to issues from update. Phone randomly shuts down when its at 30% -50% battery. And also to discard some bloatware.
Could some one please link me to a step by step procedures tutorial. And link me to a downloads list that I will need in order to properly fix my phone w/o bricking it. All Input is appreciated. the last device I Jailbroke was a IPhone 3gs, so its been a while.

The shutting down is caused by the battery.. I had same problem. Just get $9 battery from Amazon

So do we need to go through each update before going to the 6.0.1 update?

Fed up with LP

I am sick of Lollipop on my Note 4. It has terrible battery life, my wifi doesnt connect unless I turn it off and back on. I have already tried clearing the cache, doing a battery pull, removing sim and SD card to no avail. I just want to go back to the way things were.
How do I go back to the factory image before Lollipop? I have looked and saw some threads mention odin, but nothing with a concrete tutorial. I dont want to brick the thing as I just sold my old phone and burnt my upgrade on the Note 4. The model number is SM-N910V. It is not the dev edition.
Only way to get back to KK 4.4.4 is to d/l the full firmware tar for the Note 4 retail and flash it with Odin 3.0.9.

The battery drain isnt my gripe. Even on my phone all day using it for my job I still have 30% left at the end of the day and never start the day off with a full charge. The wifi issue is. I have 6Gb on Verizon between 2 accounts. 15 days into the cycle I had used 75% of my data due to my phone randomly disconnecting from Wifi. In the past we have never used more than 2Gb of our 6 combined.

Ooh forgot to put that in I feel you she complains about the same wifi issue for some reason she's the one on my account that always uses the least data we have 15gb and lately she's been dropping her wifi also and using anywhere between 5 to 6gb a month when she usually only use 1 to 2

Pretty much step by step Make sure to block OTAs afterwards or it will automatically take the update.

Once Im back on KK, how do I disable OTA? Im guessing there is an Android service that runs that needs to be stopped.

If you do decide to try LP again you may want to try a factory data reset (i.e., Settings, Backup and reset, Factory data reset) before taking the OTA to LP and do another factory data reset after taking the OTA to LP. That's how I upgraded from KK to the current LP 5.0.1 and I'm not experiencing any of the problems reported by others. I get good battery life and have no problems with dropped WiFi.
The thing that sucks is that you shouldn't have to do all of that, just to take an update. You shouldn't have to set up your phone again.
Missing root.

Agreed, but this seems to be the situation that we face with the current upgrade process. It is a pain, but not all that bad, and probably required if you want to run LP anytime in the near future.

New Note 4 owner

Is there thread that suggests what to do first with a new stock Note 4?
Root first?
Popular ROM?
Thanks
If you have the Verizon Note 4 you are stuck with stock as the boot loader is locked and no root exploit has been developed.

There's a thread called 'Desktop Setup' a little further down the main screen of the forum. I only took a brief glance, but it looks like it's other Note 4 owners showing how they have their phones setup. I just mainly setup mine to reflect how I had my S4 set. Unfortunately, though, the last post before mine is correct in saying root hasn't been achieved for this device yet. However, if you're looking to be able to use your phone as a mobile hotspot, you can purchase the full version of FoxFi for $7.95, or try the free version to see how you like it. The free one limits you to 5 megs per use, I think, before it disconnects you. I'm using the full version of the app to tether to my desktop right now, and it works pretty well. You can't turn it on with one tap like you can a rooted phone's hotspot, but you can turn off that way once you're done. The app lets me provide Wi-Fi for my XBox One, Tab 3 8.0, and Fire TV, too. Even though I can't root my phone yet, I still enjoy using it. Hope this helps, and sorry I rambled on a bit.

Haven't tried it yet, but I'm itching to give it a shot. I already downloaded the root file, but probably won't touch it til after this weekend, and the fact I got my phone set up the way I like it. I know this isn't the right thread, but before I make the decision to try this can anyone confirm that FoxFi works on 5.0.1? I'm currently on 4.4.4 and don't want to jump forward if it doesn't, since I need the hotspot. I know I can roll back to KitKat, but I'd lose all my stuff

Cool. The build in the post pointing to a possible root is showing 'Galaxy Note 4 (Verizon USA) SM-N910V VZWVerizon wireless N910VVRU2BOF1 5.0.1', which has me somewhat hopeful, with a side of skepticism. I will definitely be keeping an eye on this thread for any updates, hopefully good ones.
The file for root at the bottom says "Galaxy Note 4 (Verizon USA) SM-N910V" but has smn910f (SM-N910F (Europe)) in the file name for the zip.
Please tell me you guys are not serious???? Look at the date this crap was posted 7th July. Do you honestly think no one has tried it yet and come on the forums to scream about it. Very dodgy looking site also.
Take it easy, no point in getting worked up about it. We're all just looking for ANY glimmer of a lead for root.

And how is a 5 month old post a glimmer of hope. Most People on this forum have had their note 4s for a long long time and have been following and hoping for the one post that will spring up "That root has been achieved" it doesn't help with you posting the same thing in 3 different threads about some rubbish that has been posted 5 months ago from a website that looks like it was thrown together the same day they posted the root instructions. If anything comes up it will be posted on XDA almost immediately I can guarantee it.
I'm sorry if I sound harsh but everyone on here has been waiting a long time I see your only new to this and also had a chance to return.
The problem is No one appears to be working on anything, you only have to look at the thread "Lets talk root" I don't see any one talking about how root may be obtained and I include myself in that. What needs to happen is for this Note 4 community to start posting ideas in that thread or start a bloody new one. I am willing to use my phone as a guiney pig but come on people lets start talking about how we may obtain root and start experimenting. I will flash anything any one wants to my phone so lets take it over to the "Lets talk Root" forum.
Rant Over
Believe me, I understand your frustration as I've rooted every Android device I've had, till now of course. If we get, we get it. If not, oh well. I have more important things to concern myself with than whether I can root my phone or not. I'm sure the person who originally posted the link was only trying to help and not cause any tension. I wish I could root this thing, but get grip, it's still just a phone.

Canadian Note 7 - Root

Hey all, does anyone have a link to a guide to root the Canadian Note 7 (SM-N930W8) - Snapdragon model.
The device should have a unlocked bootloader. Any help appreciated. Thank you

The first units out up here have a locked bootloader. I would imagine the replacements do too. There was an engineering firmware from Sprint that you could flash to get root, but I'm not sure what happens after you're on it.. i.e. I don't think you can get off of it (at least easily), no recovery, no custom ROMs, etc..
There are a number of users who returned their W8 Note7 and bought a F or FD model, as the Exynos variant has an unlocked bootloader, recovery, root, etc..

I wish. I also have a W8 Note7. So far I've decided to keep it, although it hasn't been exchanged yet (registered, but coral blue and waiting forever). I may sell it and get a F or FD variant once known good ones are easily available.. or may get something else.. who knows..
For reference, see THIS post for the steps about the engineering bootloader/firmware. Feel free to read through that thread, but from everything I've read the bootloader is truly locked on our devices.
Oh, OEM unlock is a feature added in lollipop. As far as I know it's a standard feature and doesn't reflect the actual ability to unlock the bootloader. Disabling it can remove the FRP lock though.. Yes, I do know you need to use that when flashing ROMs, I had a HTC 10, S7 Edge (W8 Exynos model), and many other Androids before, and I rooted every single one of them. This is the first device I haven't, which is why I'm on the fence..

Guess I've just assumed it was unlocked. Honestly this phone has been a pain in the ass since I got it, was hoping to fix some things up with root and don't really want to go through the hassle of getting an Exynos version. Where would I grab one from anyway?

Just use the Spring Userdebug root and you will be good to go. Instructions are pretty basic. I have the N930W8 as well. The advantage is that you dont void your warranty or trip knox, but then you are stuck on an unchangablr kernel and cannot flash roms/kernels until someone decides to include the system.img and old kernel in their roms, which would be a lost cause, since maybe 3 people have rooted their canadian note 7's xD
BTW, can anyone help me out with systemui? I flashed the modded systemui that includes rom control, and can no longer use samsungs interaction control, which I absolutely need. Please help me out with possibly a zip I can flash that resets systemui to stock?

I used this on my original Note 7 as well as the replacement.
I got my replacement last friday, the phone was said to be manufactured Sep 6th, but I was definitely able to flash sprints userdebug on my new replacement..
I'm running it now, and its actually doing much better than the older device. Much much snappier and longer lasting.
Then again, you mentioned an update, and I usually avoid such things so I hadnt noticed any update. Could you ellaborate on that please? With some links if you can? ^.^

You must have got the device rooted before it updated....nice one!
The new firmware which gives the fixed devices the green battery icon and bad ones a big fat warning to turn the device in. And in some cases limits the charging to 60% tops.
I have all my update crap turned off so avoided it and some like you got lucky..others the damn phone updated immediately and others it came with the firmware.
You cannot odin the previous firmware either..its blocked. And there is no root for it even on unlocked bootloader devices like my dual sim exynos
Its all over the forums bro, easy to find more info but thats the overview of it.

I'm super thankful I blocked the update services with Package Disabler right away then.. I didnt even intend to do it, but I figured I would just in case. I have to reflash the userdebug again though, theres no way it would auto update right?

Various methods: Reverting to older firmware because of 60% battery cap. T Mobile

Ok, my name is Nic, Note 7 updated on it's own one night, did NOT have package disabler.
Scoured the internet for ways to revert to stock firmware. I have obtained the stock t mobile firmware, and the rooted version of sprints firmware. (this is the same method that works with t mobile as well as sprint) Obtained Odin 3.12.4, and smart switch.
OEM is on, USB debugging is on, and in downloading mode.
I am unable to root with odin due to the flashing of the firmware continuously fails. I am unable to flash the stock firmware due to it continuously failing. I am unable to utilize smart switches emergency software recovery for it does not show up to be selected, nor the initialization process for it is no longer supported.
I have ran out of perceived options and have followed various methods in which to reverse this.
Note 7- first batch
N930T-PK1
I just want 100% battery at this point, root be damned.
thank you for anyone willing to help in advance. No I will not turn in my phone. I'd be glad to rant why, ask me, be that guy.

What would blacklisting the IMEI do exactly? prevent any functionality of the phone?
It would block it from the phone network. It would still work on WiFi. They are soon sending a firmware to take them off the network, I'd guess the IMEI block will come a couple weeks later.

But with my attempts and methods above not working, ya'll seem chill about it being easy. Please tell me what Im missing or haven't tried yet. Still on 60% battery, and I'll look up the imie thing when the time comes.
I have the stock firmwares, just no way to flash it, (above reasons)
Thanks, Nic
My build number is N930TUVU2APK1 I have been searching for the stock firmware for this and can't find it. Can anyone help?
UPDATE:
So I managed to learn that the last 3 digits of the build number are EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. I had PK1, and needed PI4 to revert it back. there is no root for PK1 or PI4 as of right now. but I am charging past 60% though, and I downloaded package disabler pro. I am still getting the warning message and asking me to update. How do I get these to go away?
UPDATE: I found a thread that has the older version of package disabler thsat allows you to prevent updates. The new one allows samsung to force updates. This is old news, but letting yall that helped me know Im good now.
N930TUVU2APK1 - i have the same note 7 number, but i can't find any firmware to it, so if you repaired it to charging 100% possibility, can you share it with us?

We have the firmware if you still need it please message me. thanks. Those updates are rolling out
If they block your IMEI and you have an older Samsung phone that you OWN just get someone to flash the new IMEI using an eeprom read/write tool. Fairly easy.
It's illegal if you don't own the other IMEI. Just an FYI.
If you bought the phone in another country you can also change the region of the device by getting that flashed as well through the eeprom
But if you own the device they shouldn't be able to block the imei.
That sounds pretty illegal on its own. Those are also just rumors.
what version???

Can I please get a link to a step by step guide to fixing this as I don't have a clue what I'm doing. I got an S7 Edge coming, but it wont be here until the 18th. I need this phone to last at least until then or I'm in a bad way.
I have a problem. I have always been a strong believer in not updating anything so from very beginning I made sure my Note 7 wasn't ever gunna update. The problem is my Note 7 is working perfectly and making it very hard to turn in since it isn't making any problems in my life. I could use some drama, maybe they Could even force a return with refund just to punish a boring good person. Could someone help me?

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (AT&T) : Stuck on Samsung Logo/Battery Screen

Years owned : Since 2012
Model : SGH-L317
Carrier : AT&T
Good Morning, everyone.
I've had my note 2 since 2012 and I didn't have an issue until now. The phone is rooted (I believe it was CleanRom Ace with the Apex Settings thing), and as the title says it, I guess it was time the phone finally got some kind major error and it started with freezing on the logo screen when booted. I thought maybe I leave it like that overnight , so I wake up, completely dead now its stuck on battery screen logo. I think I can still get access to the menu (hold home, volume down and power button) where i can access odin. No recovery mode..no nada =/...
So I need to know if this is just a battery issue or maybe its time that I set this to factory settings? But I still want it rooted.. Please help everyone. I understand most of this so I just need a boost of confidence from everyone and know if this is possible to fix. Thank you very much!
Adam.
Had similar issue with note 10.1 tab, turned out the storage became corrupted, now it's just a nice paper weight.... Best of luck thou-

Well the thing about this note 2 is that it's been pretty much indestructible. I've had to Odin back to stock, flash chainfires files and start over. So is suggest that. Odin back to stock and start over. Ps google is your friend

all due respect, they were my friend, they wouldn't guide me to a bunch of sites that really has no significant answer. It's like i said, I used many versions of Odin. it just doesn't wanna work. I got those Pit at mapping messages and... yea. That's pretty much the end of it.
EDIT : i made another thread about it , so someone should close this.
