HELP! Massive battery drain on OnePlus 3! - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Guys, my OnePlus 3 (running OxygenOS 3.2.7 no root) battery is HORRIBLE! I can only get a maximum of 3 hours SOT from 100% to ~5%!
I've tried every method i found. I don't keep location ON, set my wi-fi off during night, i only charge it until full (NOT overnight!). Wiped my cache yesterday and still NO RESULT!
You can see in the screenshots below that #1 app that eats battery is "Android System" that has CPU total 2h 13m. (today)
Please help me on what to do!!!
>i'm a new user and can't post links to screenshots

Same problem here

Android system is supposed to do that. It's quite normal it really depends on usage. What are you doing in the meantime? What is your usage pattern?

Unlock bootloader - no.
I won't root my device.. only if i really need to! (like there isn't any other way to repair my battery life only by flashing other ROM)
Only some essential photos. (uploaded on G Photos tho)

Then the only option you have is boot into your stock recovery wipe your device and then installing all your essential apps initially from play store ....
Do this first then let me know the result.
Also do you use Wi-Fi or mobile data, if both then in what proportions?
I'll help you out mate worry not.

I'm using 40% mobile data (4G) and 60% wifi.
I would like to search for some methods so i can see what app is using my CPU before wiping device..
privacy guard from my previous oneplus one on cyanogenmod was SO HELPFUL, why there is not on oxygen os?

My man do as i ask you shall not be disappointed(hopefully).
But if what you want to do is find the culprit app then use wakelock detector from playstore.
The choice is yours.

Whoa! I downloaded wakelock detector lite now and i see that i can make it work even without root. This wasn't possible an year ago when i tried :victory:
I'm gonna come back with the results! Thank you!!!

I had the same problem with my OP³ running stock OOS 3.2.7 locked bootloader and unrooted. The battery used to drain by 15-20% overnight and also got similar results while using the phone during the day.
Yesterday night i installed google now launcher. The drain came down to just 2% overnight. For the first time i could see "phone idle" in the battery stats instead of android system.
Will use the phone during the day and report back today.
I figured from wakelock detector that the oneplus launcher was keeping the system awake by creating a wakelock for its weather service in shelf even when the option was turned off. Hope this helps you too.

Yeah, i also have Oneplus launcher keeping CPU awake and last night i installed nova launcher. Now the oneplus launcher is not keeping the system awake anymore but in phone's battery stats there is still "Android System" consuming 7% (the most) with "CPU total - 1h 20m" and this process never stops!
I will keep it 1-2 more days to see if something happens and if not, i'm gonna wipe it.

You can try turning off most of the gestures just to try and isolate the problem. Also are you using any of the navigation buttons to turn off screen? Because that turns of the screen but the phone doesnt sleep properly like its locked. Try and let us know about your observation.

The problem persists even though i switched to Nova Launcher. There is still "OnePlus Launcher" in Wakeup triggers (woke up 70 times from 100% to 77%) but on the first place is "Google Play Services" with 88 times until now. Btw, "OnePlus Launcher" is #1 consumer in CPU wakelock.

Battery draining in sleep mode

Guys, in sleep mode, even with WiFi & Auto Sync OFF, the battery drains almost 10% through the whole night.
Last night it drained from 99% to 91% through the night without any usage.
Can someone throw some light on this issue?

Hello, betterbatterystats is one of the most useful apps to check what drains your battery.
Basically you only check "Process wakelocks" and see which application "wakes" too often your phone.
Charge your phone and just before going to sleep, remove the charger.
BetterBatteryStats will take this action to start logging wakelocks ( default behaviour )
and in the morning, open BBS and see what process use too many wakelocks.

Did a quick check but didn't see one.
I strongly believe paying for applications that really add value to your phone to help developers continue their apps. Compared to the time you save by finding out which app is consuming battery the price tag of the applications is next to nothing.
I used betterybatterystats and it showed me that bluetooth was enabled. No where else did it show this, i restarted the phone and its no longer enabled. worth downloading if you have issues with the battery!

[Q] Battery Draining Problem desite hd

My HTC Desire HD is draining battery over night and being very hot in the morning while battery only remaining under 5% even if it was on 100% at night!
It remains like 10% ~ 15% while i put on the airplane mode.
I have installed Jelly Time by RandomBlame R30
juice defender, advanced task killer, and some more apps to avoid battery draining!
UPDATE: I have downgraded my phone to ICS Sabsa Prime
removed advanced task killer because a fellow member suggested me to... still facing the problem!
Screen shots are added in this thread so that you guys can have a better idea of my problem.
UPDATE: I have added some more screen shots of better battery status as suggested.
Please help me out here... any help in this regard will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

uninstall advance task manager and download Battery Calibration from Play Store. Follow the instructions in that app and it may solve your problem

i have uploaded some screen shots of better battery status in the first post and adding some here... i need your suppot in this regard as i dont understand why you asked me to screen shots from this application specifically... dont know what are wakelocks or alarms and how to remove them if i am suffering to these locks...
More specifically, screenshots of kernel wake locks, partial wake locks (already there), and alarms. Select them from the top drop down box.
To use BBS: use it to diagnose what is keeping your phone from battery saving "deep sleep" mode. For example: you see Starting Alert Services in your partial wake locks? It's locking your phone awake more than it should. So what's going on with the app that uses it, which appears to be Contacts? Do you have apps installed or something running that uses it disproportionately?

Sir, i will upload more screen shots here that you asked for... thanks for all your help, can you/any one please suggest best rom to same battery?
I personally feel that choosing a ROM for battery life is not the most efficient method. There are many things that affect battery drain to a significant degree: backlight, GPS, WiFi, alarms, wakelocks, etc. I have not found that ROM choice affects battery drain nearly as much as other things (unless, of course, you're using a highly experimental or brand new ROM).

[Q] SlimBean Battery not so good with BBS

Hey guys I am currently in Canada and I am using a DTMO device but I am certainly not getting the kind of battery I was hoping for...here is my setup:
Device is always on airplane mode as I am out of the country
Running SlimBean Build6
BMS Kernel (newest)
Kernel settings:
Fifo/interactive with min= 384000 and max= 756000. The interactive governor has a hispeed_freq of 594000
As you can see I have butchered the capability of my S3 for better battery life as I don't game or anything but I am only getting 2.5 hours of screen on time on Automatic Brightness :/ (AIRPLANE MODE)
I have attached BBS images
I forgot to say, I also use Greenify to hibernate like 10+ apps including Maps, Zedge , Tapatalk etc
I was really hoping to break the 4 or maybe even 5 hour screen on time with airplane mode, and any help would be greatly appreciated!!

He says he did greenify maps in the OP, weird that it's still so hi. I just force stop it when ever I'm done using those kinda apps, music as well... with Airplane mode on and everything you should get more than 5 hours screen on time, I've seen people get that with signal. Weird stuff... what are your cpu states? might be another app causing wakelocks
Hey guys thanks for the response! My cpu states in BBS are weird but I here is the one from both BBS and trickstermod!
That is crazy weird. I would FULL wipe system Factory Reset and caches and maybe even wipe sdcards after back up of things. Do not restore system apps from TiBu or what ever you use to restore things. That is not at all normal or what would cause your battery life.

Just do what I said, I don't freeze my maps and it doesn't act like that so I suggest wipe and reinstall things normally. I wouldn't suggest a specific ROM I have run build 6 and didn't have any serious issues on stock kernel.

It's not a permanent solution. My theory is that another app you are using is forcing it to launch. This would explain why Greenify isn't helping.
Okay I'm downloading RootBox and BMS Kernel to see how things go on a fresh clean install with no apps (no maps) and test it overnight on airplane mode.
Aerowinder I am afraid you may be right, I'll have to double check that on the new formatted rom to see whats up. I'll post pics tomorrow once I leave it on overnight Thanks for the help thus far!
No problem. 10-1 its another app and more so it will be gone without maps and possibly back after you reinstall maps. The fun of playing with your phone lol.

E98x LP Battery issues Potentially resolved

Hi All I am Posting my results, I need a few ppl who could help and see if this is going to help everyone or only me
And to the critics, I will be doing a screen on time (SOT, ppl are asking and not getting answered) test, I am as eager to fix this so if you would like me to run anything while the screen is on, please let me know
An hour ago i put brightness at 100 while battery was at 50% been browsing the net with chrome using mobile data and it dropped to about 10%. Much less heat than expected although brightness was limited to 84 at some point. Will do a 50 brightness test tomorrow from full charge but wont be touching the phone much
Steps to Follow to give me info
Hi Guys,
Had a bit of time, this is the info I need, hopefully I will get responses from a view e98x variants, even other LGs would be great but please specify the details of your phone.
Download Battery Doctor from the Play Store google dot com/store/apps/details?id=com.ijinshan.kbatterydoctor_en&hl=en
Get it running , opened, etc and then look at the app usage info (scroll down) for the last 24 hours (seen in screenshot attached)
When opened please send me the screenshot or the the list of draining APPS, I have hidden my top drainer that consumed 98% of my battery in the other attached screenshot. At the time of my screenshot I have not uploaded, it has used 34% of my battery and has been disabed for 19 hours. I cannot yet suggest the name or anyone to do anything with the service yet as I am still attempting to find out what breaks (so far nothing.)
I will send battery updates as far as I can.
Another Test
So the next thing I have done is charge full again, set the brightness to 50% and played Hearthstone for 3 Hours, I am personally pleased with the results as i could not achieve 3 Hours with the Phone before.
i get 3.5-4.5 hours screen from 100%

Can you follow post 2 and send me the details, The item I disabled eventually disabled my MTP and USB Tethering, as it doesnt bother me yet, I am yet to attempt tpo fix it. I would Highly recommend 30 - 60% brightness, anything more seems to not have a major impact on brightness, it just reduces battery life and cause heat, which reduces the maximum charge of the battery in future

[GUIDE][UPDATED] Fix MRA bug in Android 5+ (Causes huge battery drain)

Hi guys.
I'm a huge flashing enthuthiast, like a lot of people here.
I have Desire EYE with KitKat, and every time i was trying to update my phone to newer Android (LP, MM) I get the worst battery life you could imagine.
Also I saw a lot of users here, who was complaining about huge battery drain after flashing new roms (with clean install, factory reset, etc.)
After seaching a lot, I found some info about MRA bug.
You can look about it here. It's present only on 5+ versions of Android.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=190396
It happens, when you use mobile network. After that, there is a big chance, that mobile radio module will work, and your app will continue to drain battery.
You can look at MRA time in your app settings. Just compare screen on time and mobile radio active time to know, if this bug affects your device.
I found a possible solution to fix it.
[Update]
Solution #1 [YOU NEED ROOT + XPOSED]
So, in a few words, here is the solution.
1) Install Xposed framework
2) Install MobileRadioActiveFix module and activate it.
Important: Install version 1.1 if you have Lollipop, or 1.2 if you have Marshmallow.
You may have bootloops if you install wrong version!
3) Reboot.

Solution #2 [YOU NEED ROOT]
You can install "Mobile Radio Pwn" app.
Here is link to Google Play version (its cheap).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidscout.octobot.mobileradiopwn&hl=en
And also you can dowload free version, attached to this post.
Thanks to authors of these modules - pylerSM and glauberlima.
And their git pages:

https://github.com/glauberlima/MobileRadioActiveFix
Thanks to Octobot, for his Mobile Radio Pwn app.
Here is his thread on OnePlus forums.
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/apk-octobots-mobile-radio-pwn-v1-3-1-updated-2015-08-09.323219/
Also I want to thank everyone, who shared this info.
P.S. Also I want to say sorry for any mistakes in my English
I had long mra times with my sync-app DAVdroid (more then 5h mra vs few minutes of activity).
I installed the module yesterday and it seems to work for me. DAVdroid gets not shown list at all.
Device: Motorola Moto G 3. Gen (2015)
ROM: cm12.1
thanks
wow this makes a lot of sense. I will try ASAP. Thanks a lot for this tutorial!

@xXminiWHOOPERxX can you please check this out. Maybe this is why our battery life is not as great as in kitkat :S Thanks!
Do I really have to install Xposed Framework in order to use this fix? Is there another possible way to use this fix without it? This fix sounds so glorious.

Every xposed module needs Xposed Framework to run. So you can't use it without Xposed Framework.
But I found another way.
You can try app called "Mobile Radio Pwn" from the Play Store, but be aware - I haven't tried it, so I'm not sure if it works at all.
This app is not free (but it's cheap enought) and it needs ROOT.

I'm actually not sure if it does work, it just toggles the data off when it's connected to wifi and once you lose wifi connection it toggles data on. I usually do that manually anyway and being that I'm on marshmallow and not lollipop, I don't know if it's truly working. My battery did make it through the whole day, from 10am-7pm my battery was at 32% when I got home. I usually have it at 30% by noon with moderate use.
Im going to really monitor my battery and post my usage up tomorrow night.

I think it's okay battery life, but try to count Screen-on-time (you can do that with Gsam battery monitor).
I'm also at Marshmallow, and have simulate results. But I think xposed module really helped me, my SoT is 4-5 hours with more than average usage.
