CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for CyanogenMod is available in the CyanogenMod Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to CyanogenMod, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

It's no longer required - even better to not use it to my opinion.
You disable the cache to get more memory free for storing apps, but with CM14/AOSP7 you can run apps from the SD card which should provide you more than enough storage.
I store my most used apps and the ones that are interactive ( keyboard, chrome, google app, ...) on internal shared storage. The others on my SD card. Caching gives your device an extra boost so I would keep it active.
You can enable the feature in Developer Options - Apps - Allow apps to be stored on external storage (I use a Dutch version so the translation might not be perfect).

Compilation of _device-related_ bugs in CM14 / LOS14
Don't forget that Lineage OS source now in active development – they porting features into clean Android.
So may appears non-device related bugs (regressions) which maybe will be fixed in next builds by CM contributors. Just wait.
You can find / report them on Jira bug-tracker
@PecanCM fixes only bugs related to our Xperia M.
Device-related bugs
– Dual: no internet on 2nd SIM
– Not for all: USB tethering not works
– Not for all: MTP connection buggy
– Phone won't reconnect to Wi-Fi router after loosing signal until screen turned on
– Option "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" > "Never" not work
– When charging in off state: powering on and entering recovery not available, phone fallback into charging
– No indication of battery level by LED when charging in off state
Non-fixable:
– Doze mode not work: device don't have required significant motion sensor (yes, even on Nougat it's still obligatory)
– No NFC payment support: our chip no longer supported by Android
– Init.d scripts won't run at boot due SELinux: how to disable it

Useful information
– In-call recording not works without root (e.g. ACR): change in Android. CallRecoder works
– Also there is internal call recorder feature in CM: info
– How to get network
– Persistent TWRP recovery
– Increasing free space on /data by shrinking dalvik-cache size
– Fully disabling SELinux
– Testing main ROM's in AnTuTu
– SuperSU now possible install without tricks, but system-less version requires flashing after ROM update
– 2G/3G switch in settings: 3G actually means mixed mode. Set "only 3G" (WCDMA only) possible from *#*#4636#*#* menu
– NUI Kernel with a lot of features and overclock
– How to always automatically select MTP mode (it's not a bug): app or Xposed-module
– If sdcard not adopted: to select sounds on sdcard by native method you need place them into folders Ringtones / Notifications / Alarms and reboot
– If you experiencing problems with GPS check this thread (non-ROM related)
– Due noise-canceling in low light / indoor photos can lose in detail: more info and solution

Thanks to all users for responses!
Thanks to PecanCM and Lineage OS for this awesome ROM!

Setup Wizard force close
Wiped everything
flashed Beta 1, Dual sim patch and OpenGApps 7.1 pico
Stuck at "Setup Wizard keep stopping" dialog
Tried restarting but no luck, any suggestion?

- Because here root is built-in Dual users finally can fully use Nougat.
- Patch for shrinking dalvik-cache size still works.
- Video recording still "jumping".
- MTP / USB-tethering still hard to enable.
- BTW default systemless SuperSU works, NO more required disabling SELinux
PecanCM, thanks for supporting M!

I just flashed it so can't really tell anything about battery, but it generally seems to perform better than CM12.
I can tell animations are even more smoother, and some ripple effects that used to stutter are smoother now.

No, works fine.
BTW
- Marshmallow really fast
- Of course no network on Dual (with original radio)
- First boot longer than assumed
- MTP works on some conditions
- NFC works: tags and Beam with other phone

1. Successfully send and received file with other M via BT.
2. Yep, can confirm.
Sometimes formatting SD stuck on 20% or 40%
After full deep formatting on PC it passes process successfully, but can't be used: card filesystem broken.
And it suggest do same process again and again.

Cm13 for Xperia M! Thanks PeacanCM
Maybe you should add gapps for marshmallow on the first post. The one from nexus 4 works flawlessly on both Alpha 1 & 2.
Thanks a lot, gonna test dual sims and report soon.
Is the build compatible with open gapps packages?
Edit: quoted from open gapps:
This patch is included by default in Cyanogenmod sources, but not in AOSP.

New ril patch is included in rom zip? or I have to flash it manually?

Smooth and functional, just like AOSP 6.0
Now let's wait for porting all CM's features.
Flashed new RIL-patch: no network on Dual.
Also, here persist same flashlight bug, as on AOSP: it turns off and title disappear.

Thanks PecanCM! Because of you we got the earliest and stablest marshmallow build, AFAIK there are no devices which have got stable build as our XPERIA M has.
Once again THANKS A TON!
PS: I know this is a development thread, but, i just can't stop myself at hitting thanks button.

*/
First keep in mind this is an alpha version, its unstable and some things don't work so please be patient. its far from being a daily driver at this point, also, please follow every step and triple check that you do or you may have issues.
Warning!! make sure you have a good charge in your battery, also do not disconnect battery during boot, or you will be stuck in bootloop until you use odin to flash a new kernel
Steps to install:
1. extract the gapps somehwhere, copy the extracted gapps zip + the txt file to the device
2. format data partition to f2fs in TWRP the perform a Full wipe using TWRP (and I mean full wipe! system, data, cache etc)
3. Install ROM
4. Install attached gapps (other gapps may cause heavy slowdowns and/or failure due to lack of space, this gapps removes most of the bloat including browser, camera, wallpapers and more and leaves core apps alone), this WILL take a while, permissions needs to be fixed so for now its slow, if you can't wait you can force reboot when it tries to set permissions, but i'd wait to avoid issues
5. reboot and wait, it takes a long time to boot and once it does its very slow the first time so be patient
6. recommended: set overclock to 1400 mhz and minimum to 200 to avoid some of the lag, also reboot after setup is complete to clear some memory that wizard uses and caches
For youtube, I recommand using this apk: link
Its a bit old but works very well on our device and plays 720p videos with no issues. the new player from the app store is very slow and playback is very choppy, also no 720p playback.
Status:
Working:
RIL
Wifi
BT
Sensors
GPS
Camera (use third party such as open camera
Internal SD
Audio + vibrate
buttons
USB storage (Make sure you disable debug mode when you use it since it causes issues mounting it sometimes)
External Storage
SELINUX (permissive for now until I add permissions but its low on my priority right now)
Not Working:
selinux is permissive, not sure if its worth investing time in getting it to enforced
Kernel:
Commited all the required commits for 6.0 + Coldwindofnowhere's overclocking commits since the device would run very slow with out them (thanks Coldwindofnowhere), built using his UberTC gcc 5.3.

The dev should look at this commit, it fixes ril https://github.com/lollipopi9000/android_device_samsung_aries-common/commit/d16d39ec1dce68945e7094578a5c59193eb2caec
Only thing is they need to remove the md5.h file, that's only related to the exynos3 board i believe, but the rest should work.

A: Removed from nougat.
Thank you @PecanCM.
You are really fast. :highfive::highfive:
Yay! FINALLY! We love you Ron
Review: Processing...
Awesome @PecanCM!
Thanks for bringing AOSP Nougat 7.0 to xm!
Smooth and functional for an alpha release!
Thank you!! Gonna test it now!
Thanks for new taste of Android!
Tips:
- Launching persistent TWRP not supported. Only built-in 2.8
So if you have adopted sdcard you can't restore backup.
To fix flash CM13 kernel.
- OpenGapps for 7.0 here
- Feature spotlights here
- File manager in Settings > Storage finally can install APK's, useful for first boot.
- To use 2 apps at same time hold and drag thumbnail in Recents
- Double-tap on Recents works like Alt+Tab (like long press in CM)
- In dev options new option to force move all apps on adopted storage

FOTA TWRP (recent, most likely 3.0 only) is known & fixed,
logo loops on and on, nothing opening right?
Thanks for confirming.
Thanks a lot, Ron!
GPS is works (tested in Google Maps)

I hadn't adopted sdcard, sorry.
Just noticed old TWRP and therefore possible problem.

can you please share cm13 kernel?
Look likes our XM always infront of the other ..
Tried!
Everything's working fine, except:
1. Camera not working.
2. No live wallpapers.
3. Music app crashing every time.
Does anyone have success flashing GApps? On Opengapps wiki is stated that it needs additional ROM patching to disable APK Signature Scheme V2.

BTW, if FOTA recovery is not working, I can repack the boot image with the latest TWRP 3.0.2-1.

And when im rebooting to recovery via terminal, its entered to twrp 2.8 (from this rom) not to fota sadly.
Is it based on 3.4 kernel?

Yes, like all ROMs for our device (and maybe for our entire SoC family).
Can any user test WiFi hopspot for me. And also if pokemon go will work without bugs (sorry I have no time to DL and test myself ATM)
So here are results of my brief testing:
- It booted VERY FAST as there is no ART cache compilation after every update, cache is generated on-the-fly combining JIT and AOT compilation. BTW, not only first boot was fast but the latter ones too, much faster than CM13.
- First boot with Opengapps Pico for 08.26 led to Setup Master's FCs at some moments, yet after some painful experience I've succeed adding Google account and even restoring my apps and settings, which was quite surprising (I was amazed when noticed my ringtone being restored to that from CM13).
- 3G is not working, at least for me. Only EDGE.
- Getting root with the current version of SuperSU appears to be impossible, at least for our device.
- Phone seems to be less responsive, but maybe that's just me, because I regularly use it overclocked to 1.4 GHz.
- TWRP 2.8.0.0 and not working FOTA recovery, seriously? I was forced to repack boot image with the TWRP 3 (just quickly grabbed that from NUI as I'm lazy to repack recovery ramdisk for using in boot image). Some report it working but for me it always booted to the built-in TWRP, both by Vol- and Vol+. BTW, I can upload repacked boot image tomorrow (it is on my personal laptop, I'm writing this from my work one).
I would certainly use it as daily driver if there were root and NUI kernel available. It is very stable for such an early alpha (gosh, Ron started working on it a couple days ago as sources were published) and such an old phone (it debuted 3 years ago), we are very lucky to have so custom-friendly hardware and such a talented developers as Ron and guys working on msm8960 board (another reason I think is that there were no any bringing-pain-in-the-ass changes like ART in 4.4/5.0 and adoptable storage in 6.0). Great work, PecanCM!
I'll continue my testing tomorrow and revert to CM13 later until new SuperSU and NUI are released (or maybe forever if I'll buy new device soon).
