[CM 12.1] Camera Won't Focus - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got a Note 4 and was able to root it and put CyanogenMod on it, but I've just discovered that the main camera does not focus at all (front camera seems to be fine).
This happens with both the built-in camera app as well as third party camera apps I've tried, so I'm worried it could be a hardware problem
There does not appear to be any protective film over the lens or the flash/sensor
I'm not sure if this happened with the Stock ROM as I never opened the camera, I typically root and flash CM as soon as I get a new phone
Has anyone else run into this? I'm hoping it's not a hardware issue but it seems like it could be...

Front facing camera not being detected?

I've tried quite a few different roms, ranging from AOSP ROMs to Sense based ROMs and this doesn't make any sense. I've also attempted different camera apps and both still and video mode.
For some reason, my Evo 4G does not think it has a front facing camera. I've tried the default camera app, the G+ app, several video calling apps and none of them even give me the option to switch to the front facing camera.
However, on my wife's Evo I'm given that option and able to switch to the front facing camera, so at least I know I'm looking in the right place.
So I am open to ideas and suggests as to where I should look for clues as to why this isn't working.
Hey,
Now check the roms you are using because many roms do have broken front cameras with that being said you want to download a stock but rooted sense rom with the latest update that fixed my dads evo camera issue, if it doesnt work sadly you will need to live with it, unless you want to unroot and take to sprint for replacement :/
goodluck!
If you have tried multiple roms, including stock roms, and it still isnt working, it's likely a hardware failure with the camera itself.
Yea that's what I figured. Oh well

[Q] Front Facing camera not working?

Hello
I've just received my Note 2 in the mail today, popped in the sim card and booted it up. Works fine and it's awesome.
When i checked out the camera, it launched fine and i was able to take perfect pictures using the rear camera, but when i switched to the front facing camera, it just came up with a warning saying "Kamera Mislykkedes" (Translated it means "Camera Failed") with 1 button saying "Okay" which would just close the camera app.
If i tried to relaunch it, it would stick to try and use the FFC and simply give the warning again and again.
If i go into Applications and clear all data from the Camera app, it would switch back to the rear camera and thus work again.
But i simply cannot get the FFC to work, i also tried downloading "Pudding Camera" off the market, and it does the same.
I found some other people having problems with older Samsung phones, and it can have something to do with some apps not releasing the camera app correctly after usage. But i haven't installed any apps that didn't come with the phone (except Pudding Camera, but it didn't work before that either).
Anyone got an idea? I really really really really don't want to have to send the phone back already because of a hardware issue, so that's why i'm here.

You can try if face unlook works.

Just a guess here but if a factory data reset doesn't fix it, it sounds like a hardware return sorry.
the exact scenario happened to me but with the back camera
Just flash latest stock rom

What did you do to get it fixed? I have a similar problem
I have a galaxy note gt n 7000 (galaxy note I) and had this camera fail problem 4 months ago. I have even bought a front camera module from china but the product still didn´t get here. It takes more than a month for these stuff to come to my house in Brazil. Well, anyway, I had given up on trying to solve the problem (that´s why I bought the module) and I usually flash 3 or 4 roms a month (love to mess). So, then, I flashed the ROM super nexus on my phone and opened the camera normally, because the rear camera never had problems and guess what... when the camera opened I saw my face. Scared to death. kkkk. Now, it´s my fourth day using the rom and the front camera is working nice.
I don´t believe most of the users are having hardware issues. I think there´s something related to JB update because ppl started complaining about these camera errors after the update... but who knows. Hope u all have the same luck I had.
=)

Camera Issue

Ever since I updated to the stock 4.4.2 my camera will not auto focus. Tried new camera apps switched roms cleaned it and the glass that's in front of it. Did something happen to my camera or is this a software issue

[Android 9 Root] Front facing Camera can't take photos in other apps.

To start, I'm using stock ROM patched with Magisk. Root is fully working and all that jazz. This is quite a peculiar issue, I don't even know where to start. My A50 (W/Canada) is not able to use the front facing camera to take photos in any app other than the stock camera app. This is important to me as I use Snapchat and Instagram frequently. However, I am only unable to take photos with the front facing camera, videos still work perfectly fine, and the preview of the front facing camera also works perfectly fine. No issues with back camera, everything is fine there. I've tried launching Magisk as core only, and undone all my debloater settings. Every thread I see about camera issues said it's either a hardware issue (which I doubt is the case for me as the camera worked fine before root and still takes videos) or a software/kernel issue in which I should revert to stock. I would really prefer to find a solid solution to this rather than revert to stock, so I've come here hoping maybe somebody can possibly shed some light on something I may have missed out of frustration. The only thing I could think would possibly have an effect was the Magisk Samsung 4k60 Camera module which I uninstalled immediately after as it was crashing the camera app when I opened it. Could it have changed a file permanently?
To recap:
Front facing camera works perfectly as intended in stock camera app.
In any other app that uses Camera (including 3rd party camera HedgeCam) I am able to take videos but not photos.
Front facing camera preview always works fine.
Tried Magisk core only mode and reinstalled all debloated apps.
Snapchat gives error (when taking front facing photo) "Snap capture failed. Please try again." all other apps just freeze on (what would be) the photo/photo preview until I exit or switch out of the app then back in.
Any help is much appreciated, and I can share more information or logs if they'd help.

My camera doesn't focus. Is it a software problem or a hardware problem?

Hello, I have a problem with the Mi6 camera and I want you to help me to know if it's a software problem or hardware problem.
My problem is that my phone camera does not focus. It always seems to be in "macro" mode. I installed LineageOS 17.1 in late April and testing if everything was correct, I noticed that the camera was not focusing. But the last photo I took well (with LineageOS 16) was in mid-March, more than a month earlier. So before I put an issue on Lineage 17.1 or replace the camera module I would like to be sure what the fault is.
What did I find out? I installed the application called CPU Info and it detects 4 cameras: ID0, ID1, ID2 and ID3 (screenshot attached). ID0, ID2 and ID3 are back cameras and ID1 is the front camera. The Open Camera application allows me to select between those 4 cameras. And it turns out that ID0 is the camera that focuses on "macro", ID2 seems to focus on the whole picture in general, but with the ID3 camera the screen freezes. So ID0 is the default camera that the other applicantions are using.
I suspect that ID3 is a virtual camera that should "join" cameras ID0 and ID1 in some way. And this is what is failing. This makes sense?
Is it normal for my mobile to detect 4 cameras? Is there an application that can help me more? Any log I can review? Anything you can do before buying a new camera module?
Xiaomi MI 6 - LineageOS 17.1 - fw: fw_sagit_miui_MI6Global_V11.0.6.0.PCAMIXM - Magisk installed without any modules
I installed Lineage OS 16 and the camera failed too, so I think It's a hardware problem .
Flash Fastboot rom with MiFlash and check the camera. If it fails again it's probably a hardware issue.
Good luck, zaqm
Have you recently changed the screen or any component?
It happened to me a while ago, I still did not focus the camera, but it turns out that it is a problem that the camera block is loose, that is, the metal box where the lenses are located is loose hitting against the protective glass and blocking the function to focus.
It happened to me because the screen I replaced comes with a frame, but the new frame does not have sheets that hold the camera block and therefore causing the failure.
Try to give a few strokes to see if the block is accommodated and you notice that it already focuses again and you can be sure that that is the problem, question of fixing it.
