Google play music fast forward/rewind in a track - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Hi there,
I have just noticed this issue where you cannot skip inside a track in Google music. I can see the progress bar, I can move it to the center but it comes right away back at the beginning and tune starts again. I have no other music app installed, this device is pretty stock aside from being unlocked and rooted.
The same app works fine in my HTC One, there I can advance in the track.
Any ideas?

Same issue. I'm rooted, but stock. I noticed that if you skip the track then skip back to it, it will sometimes work at that point. Not really the most efficient way to do it, but it works for me. I have to do it a lot, especially when I'm listening to a podcast, which can be hours long.

Anyone else cares to confirm or contradict the above experiment on stock rom? Are you able to move the Google music cursor on the progress bar?
I am also wondering whether related to the other Google music issue where, quite often, it'd suddenly start playing music by itself. Although didn't do that today..

I have same or similar problems, though I've only tried podcasts.. Advancing the track skips it back to the beginning. Using the +30sec button on the widget(s) skips to the beginning. Using the -10sec on the widget skips to the beginning. This happens with the app open, in a widget on the home screen, in a widget on the shelf, and in the notifications pane. It happened on the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3t (recently returned 3 for 3+), both new and running stock marshmallow OxygenOS.

Yeah, this is far beyond annoying. By restarting/clearing cache, sometimes this problem goes away for a while but not for long. Interesting that the only manufacturer affected seems to be oneplus, according to my research. Still have this problem after 3.2.8 update

How is this still an issue? I have the oneplus 5 and it's happening to me. Over a year and no fix and only happens to oneplus phones.

[Q] Music stops when switching apps...

While I've been a member of XDA for quite a while (since my early days with a TyTn II), I've never posted. Mostly because I've always found an applicable post regarding my interest, need, problem, etc.. Can't find anything this time!
I recently upgraded from an original Moto Droid to the Incredible (bought off E-Bay) and have two annoying issues.
The biggest is that, unlike the Moto Droid, the music stops whenever I switch from music player to another app. On the Droid, I could go to the home screen or browser, etc and still listen to music. The weird thing is that it still exhibits the same behavior after rooting and loading the latest JagerRom. Is this just normal for the Incredible?
The second problem (not so much), is that the phone refuses to automatically pull my apps down from the Market after an upgrade or factory restore. It syncs Contacts and email just fine, but I've had to reload my apps manually after each restore and the switch to JagerRom. It's had this issue since day one.
Any thoughts/advice would be much appreciated!
how are you accessing your music? to start it playing? I noticed that if you go through a file manager and play a song you have to leave the music app open or if when you back out it will stop but if you go to the music app and start it then you can back out and it will play in the background fine. Make sense?
Thanks for the reply. I'm playing purely from within the stock player. That's why I'm baffled by the problem.

hmm thats very strange. not sure what to tell you on that. Ill try to rack my brain some more and let ya know if I come up with anything.
I thought I should chime in here also. I am also experiencing this issue. Seems like navigation is killing pandora instead of muting it. Very annoying on road trips, a fix would be much appreciated.

[Q] Google Music app issues

I really couldn't stand the default music app on this phone, so I decided to pull the Google app from the market. Here's what the problem is.
If I start my random shuffle after plugging in my headphone cable, it will play the first song. Then, it stops. If I hit the power button or unplug the cable, the next song starts playing. I have to do this for every song.
Has anyone else tried that music player and experienced this?
(and for some reason I can never, ever put these things in the right forum. *facepalm*)
I have a similar problem with this app on my sgs2 too! But on my sgs2 i stream at work everynite with the google music app on my vibrant it streamed flawless with no gapps of dead air BUT with my sgs2 it buffers between every song! i know its not the building because my vibrant played perfectly in there. but between every song i wait anywhere between 30 sec to a few min until the next song plays on random, i never waited anytime on my vibrant!!!
THIS IS MY ONLY COMPLAINT ABOTU MY SGS2, I LOVE THIS PHONE, SO THIS COMPLAINT IS SMALL COMPARED TO MOST PEOPLE
This is one of two problems I have. The other, and very much more serious issue, is that the alarm clock function fails 20% of the time to ever go off. I'm trying a replacement app to see if the behavior is app or rom related.
My google music app won't reliably play offline music while offline. When I play a song, it will skip crazy fast through songs, stop on one and play it, then repeat. It's very annoying. This will happen with songs that are on my sd card as well, so it's not completely the app's fault.
I think samsung may have setup something weird to force you to use their music player. I was having similar weird issues with ubermusic, which NEVER gave me any issues. quite the coincidence...

Thats something u need to either reflash rom, or take phone back!!! i would would say odin back to stock but we dont have that yet. I use my alarm on my phone 6 days a week and it has never failed on me.
My google music app plays fine just not flawless like the vibrant which it should be the other way around, when i say flawless i mean no dead gaps of airtime, buffering etc

I've been thinking about flashing, but was really hoping to wait until something cleaner, say, CM7, was available. Flashing tweaked stock roms feels kind of pointless, but with the issues I'm having I'm starting to get concerned...

[Q] google music player stops playing/freezes after couple of songs

So I use google music player instead of the native s3 music player from samsung because I have all my music uploaded to the google cloud. I just got the s3 a month ago and continually have this issue. I'm listening to music then all of a sudden it stops, it looks like its still playing but can't hear anything and then when I try and back out of it its frozen.
Any ideas? Anyone else experiencing this issue?
thx in advance

This was something I experienced while on frosty jb rom. Thought I was crazy the only way I fixed it was to force stop the app when it happened. Quite annoying I know

I think its a problem with touchwiz, so far have not had any issues with toasted .marshmallows. a solution I found is to go to application manager and clear data under Google play. Its not efficient and you have to wait a few minutes for it to sync again.

Are you rooted? I had that same issue on jellybean stock w/ root. Better Battery Stats showed I kept getting a LPAplayer wakelock and when I changed the build.prop following this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25475691&postcount=4732) it seemed to help. Dunno what the cause is or why that would fix it, but try it out if you have root.
thank you for all the responses.
So I am not rooted, just on the out of the box sg3 system.
I will try some of the suggestions..disappointed that there is the issue. And it does the same thing whether streaming from the cloud or the songs I have pined for offline listening which sits on the cache. :crying:
I'm having the exact same issue. I'm on stock JB, not rooted. It'll play a song or two then just freeze. I have to back completely out and try again and get the same results. Frustrating, because I don't store any music at all on my device.

Shouldn't be a touchwiz issue, as I have the same problem even though I'm running Nova Prime. I just replaced the google player widget with the samsung one and have been happy ever since. I don't really miss the cloud sync cause my library rarely changes much.
I am having the same issue. I thought it might be the romantic I was running, but now it has happened on two different roms. I wonder if it is a Jellybean issue?

I'm still having this issue. I don't have music pinned on my device, it's all in the cloud. Never, ever had this issue on my Vibrant. I actually went to Google's help today and the rep who called said they know it's happening with this phone. He advised me to uninstall the updates and then reinstall from the market. I did that, and it actually feels worse. Now it's "frozen" on one song and won't let me select another. The only buttons I have available are back, pause and forward, but it isn't playing anything.
Interestingly, I just uninstalled updates again, taking my Play Music app back to v4.3.606.400990 and it seems to be working fine. I've even had music interrupted a few times by phone calls and it picks up again and plays with no help from me.
Used to happen to me as well on stock, but since rooted and now running 4.2.1 problem has disappeared
same problem with vzw gs3
I have this same problem with my phone. The following steps detail what reproduces the issue for me.
Play Music starts playing, gets through about two songs, then stops.
When waking the phone Play Music is frozen. The pause, previous and next track buttons, but nothing on the screen responds to touch.
Hold down home button and use the built in task manager to end Play Music, accepting the warning.
Restart Play Music and continue playing. It will play normally after that.
However, from then on the LPAPlayer will keep the phone from sleeping.
If I leave it alone, it will show wakelocks into the 10-15 hour range.
A reboot of the phone will fix the wakelock, until I use Play Music again.
I am on stock rooted JB for VZW (VRBLK3). I don't think it's ROM or even phone specific though.Iit seems to affect a wide spectrum of ROMs and a few different phones on different carriers.
I am currently trying out the recommendation on this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34586729&postcount=10
I am about six songs in now, will report back if it fails.

[Q] Reproducible Google Play/Chromecast phone crash?

I am experiencing what seems to be a reproducible phone crash while casting Google Play Music to my TV. If the phone goes to sleep while casting and I wake it, hitting volume down or up buttons while on the lock screen crashes the phone. I couldn't replicate the crash while casting YouTube, only Google Play Music. Also, no crashing when adjusting song volume from lock screen while not casting. When the phone crashes it goes straight to the boot animation, no splash screen shown, and gets stuck there. I have to force shutdown to get it to turn off.
Phone is s-off, rooted, running latest stock.
Anyone with a Chromecast willing to replicate this crash? Any ideas what's going on?
Thanks.

Yep. I've had it happen to me as well. I've never really tried to see what the issue may be though.
Its happening to me too. Are you using xposed mod to wake with volume button? I am and I'm thinking that might be the cause. I'll try it a little later and report back.
Edit. That's not the cause. I turned off that mod and it still happens.
No xposed mod or anything else. All I'm doing is trying to adjust the volume of the song that is playing, which one should be able to do while casting, and the whole phone crashes. Is this an HTC problem or Google problem? midnight assassin, what ROM are you running?

I am experienced the same issue last night while using Netflix. I tried adjusting the volume while using my chromecast and then my phone reboots into the HTC one screen. I have to hold the power button until it hard reboots.

I get this same issue on Verizon HTC One, although it seems the phone doesn't need to be actually asleep, and it will reboot itself - does not need a hard reset from me.
Non Rooted HTC One
I am also having the same issues when trying to change the volume of Play while the screen is off. I have a non rooted Verizon HTC One.
exact same issue with me when using volume rocker after phone goes to sleep while casting Play Music. I am using ATT phone rooted, s-off, running latest ARHD 31.6 rom. this seems to be an issue with chromecast as it only happens when casting.
Thanks for reporting. I'm trying to figure out if the problem is on Google's end or HTC's. My Nexus 7 doesn't have this problem while casting.
I emailed HTC support about it, with a link to this thread. I'll post back if I get a reply.
I've noticed the same issue. I'm running InsertCoin 6.0-5. It took two reboots before I figured out why my phone kept crashing. I've been using my Chromecast for a while, and I only recently went back to a Sense rom. I was running CM 10.2 until recently, and I can't recall having this issue on that rom, but I can't say for certain. I'm sort of glad to see that I'm not the only one having a problem.
Edit: Oh, and I just noticed this is the Verizon forum (came across this thread via Google). I have an AT&T HTC One.
It's still good to know that the problem is not carrier specific.
I did heard back from HTC and they just punted saying that it's a third party app, not their problem, and suggested uninstalling and reinstalling the app, which doesn't fix anything.
Anyone know how to report this to Google?

Typical manufacturer BS. If your OS crashes because of a third party app, then there's something wrong with your OS. A properly designed OS should be incapable of crashing because of a third party app. Never mind the third party in question in this case is Google... If it only crashes under HTC's spin of Android, then HTC broke something and needs to fix it.
I'm tempted to wait until the "sense-ified" release of KitKat comes out to see if that fixes the issue, since I'm waiting on HTC to fix the stupid purple hue low-light camera issue as well.
I have this very same problem, except i dont have to force shutdown. It just reboots sense (takes about 10 seconds) and then all is fine.
I'm rocking a stock (android 4.3) international simlock free unit.
Not rooted, no s-off, no nothing. Fresh out of the box.
Im still having this same problem on my HTC one X running ViperX 4.07. Has anyone found a solution yet?
I've recently experienced a similar issue when casting from the GP Music app to my Sonos speakers. When trying to adjust the volume from within the GP Music app, it causes the phone to reboot. I have an HTC One still running 4.3 (my carrier in the UK dragging their feet a bit!). I was wondering (hoping) whether this is still an issue with 4.4?

Music apps getting killed in the background

Hi all,
Enjoying my Samsung Galaxy Note7 for the most part, but I am experiencing one extremely annoying issue.
I play music on my phone a lot, all of it streaming from either Apple Music or Pandora. On the Huawei Nexus 6P both apps work flawlessly (on both MM and N Preview), never cutting out whether in the foreground, background, screen off, whatever.
On the Note7 the apps seem to be getting killed or otherwise stopped for no apparent reason, even if they are the only apps in the switcher.
Anyone else experiencing issues like this? It seems to be worse with Apple Music, but as I say it has worked flawlessly for me on the Nexus 6P (as well as a few other recent Android devices for that matter).
So far searches have proved fruitless.
Thanks, Mitchell
Yup, it has happened to me a few times also when using Spotify. App doesn't close, but randomly stops playing my music and restarts the song when I tab back in to press play. Coming from an iPhone, I've never experienced this issue.
Sounds like the same issue. If I reopen Apple Music for example, the app opens immediately where it was, but the playback bar at the bottom is gone. When I click play on the stream I was listening to it restarts, same as you.
Similarly, coming from the iPhone (or even other Android devices), its frustrating to no end.
Are you all on Snapdragon or Exynos? My Snapdragon Note7 has the opposite problem. Music apps won't kill when I want them to and when I walk back in to range and my Gear reconnects from 3G to BT Pandora starts playing. Even though it shouldn't. My office isn't amused. I bounce between Pandora, Play Music, and Slacker and never had any of the issues you're describing. And I use them through Android Auto and would know if they weren't picking up from where I last left them.
I've got a Exynos N930F
Remove the apps that are being killed from the "App power monitor" under Device Maintenance - Battery.
You have to scroll down and click on the "Unmonitored Apps" and add the apps you want.

Thanks for the suggestion, I've just added them to the list and will see how it goes!
Interestingly, FB Messenger, WhatsApp and Android Auto were already in the list.
Sadly it didn't work, music stopped again this morning after just a few minutes
