Camera Observation - LeEco Le Pro3 Guides, News, & Discussion

So I have been messing around with the Camera and like everyone has said, it is quite underwhelming, and this is surprising because it has a quite good sensor. Iv used different apps and seems other apps take worse pictures even. I'm thinking the reason the Camera is performing poorly because LeEco is not Utilizing API 2 for the Camera, which would explain why Manual focus is not available on other camera apps. Just doesn't make sense why the Camera can't perform anywhere near the OP3's.

So the trick with phones is to use HDR to get better DR and low NR. Given that phones nowadays have tremendous SoC power, HDR processing should be a breeze. And set the Sharpness setting to lowest to prevent artifacts.

Have you tried Google Camera?
Here is a comparison... You can see that Google Camera photo has better detail despite having higher ISO. Noisier but resize it down to 50%, it will be infinitely better than LeEco's default camera output.

I also do think that the software has alot to do with its underwhelming performance. Also, the pro 3 is lacking OIS compared to the others phones using the same sensor such as the op3 and lg v20. OIS helps the camera use longer shutter speeds to take in more light because it makes the lens steady. Cameras w/o ois needs to take pictures at faster shutter speeds to minimize blur resulting to the camera taking less light in.

With BuildProp Editor it's possible to add this line :
persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1
and after reboot on x720 cinese version it's possible to use API 2 Camera.

Unless I am missing something, you just need to click/tap on the area you would like to focus on right? Even the LeEco camera can do manual focus. I suggest you use Google camera app. I did a comparison of this phone with the Pixel and the result is surprisingly similar. In sheer performance, LePro3 ate the Pixel alive. =D

How did you manage to get HDR working?
Even after I added persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1, Google Camera I downloaded won't show HDR option.
(Playstore would not let me download the Google Camera app so I got 2.7.010 from APKmirror.

That was HDR of LePro's default camera app. And yes HDR on Google Camera app is unavailable.

What's going on guys?
I am looking for an app that I can get that will control aperture, exposer, shutter speed, white balance, ISO, and focus. So far all the apps I've tried, none support aperture except one VERY basic one that was made for long exposure shots. But that was the only thing I could change. Any ideas?

The bottom line is you will never get a better shot from hTc 10 than with HTC Pro Camera 1.90.401.5 (as of the moment of this typing)..

Better off using RAW mode and do everything else in Adobe Lightroom. No aftermarket camara app can do better than the official one now.
I really just want aperture control
anyone know of an app that can control aperture?
I might be wrong, but there is no way to control aperture on a phone camera. Phone cams have fixed apertures. 'adjustments' on apps are just simulating it via gain etc...

hmmmm im trying to do something like this, but i need a slow shutter, but lowering shutter to 16s allows WAY to much light in even with the ISO down to 100. what can i do/how can i make it so that less light comes into the sensor at 16s shutter speed?

What I did was to stick a ND (neutral density) filter to the lens.
I tried this with the M8, to achieve this photo
Now with the laser focus, not too sure if the filter will cause an error in focusing.

hmmmm, filters are the only method you know of to produce this?
thats an awesome pic BTW!
Using ND filters is also the way to go for dslr photography. ND filters are basically dark glass to limit the amount of light reaching the sensor.

what about this app?
it does what i want an i can change aperture. its just a crappy app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.longexposure2
if you click, not light trace, but the other one, and choose aperture and save the photo, it comes up in details about the pic as different aperture that you set in the app.
I have the paid version of this app. Limitations is that it only saves photos at max 1920x 1080.
Its not true aperture adjustments too. Basically it's overlaying parts of the photo with light traces.

Camera 2 API Fix?

After applying jigs4wkiller's zip to my mi5s for the camera2 API fix as well as google camera I noticed that the openCamera app still did not detect that the device was capable of using the camera2 API. I later learned it is because openCamera requires that the device's android.hardware.camera.level is equal to limited, full, or level3. In the case of the mi5s, it is set to null. Is there any way to fix this?
I use openCamera for its great manual controls which can only be accessed if it detects that the device supports the camera2 API.
Also, the google camera 60fps feature does not seem to be working properly when using MGCB_7.0H_C2API_Full_PXL2_v.1.4.apk which leads me to believe that something else is wrong.

Freedcam appears to have stopped development(thread is closed, no download link), and really would rather not buy ProShot when it doesn't even have a 4/5 on play store. Any other recommendations for a manual camera? I've tried Cinema fv 5, filmic pro and cinema 4k and none of them are better then open camera for filming imo.

Can you guys spot the difference in quality? One is taken with the modded Google camera and the other with Open camera. Can you guys tell me which is which? I know this isn't the best picture or best visual representation, I'll try to take better pictures when I find better examples, one does make a huge difference over the other though.
second is gcam
I have guessing games but the second one is the better photo.
One with stock Moto cam would be good too.
The second is most definitely a better picture, the way I see it if you look at the steering wheel you'll see some obvious color differences, the second is more full in color, if you look at the number pad in the lower right the second looks sharper. I say no matter what app it will always take good pictures in day light, night time/dark scenes are a different story though. This was using an 8.1 rom. The first picture is using the Google camera app the second is actually open camera with the camera2 API enabled and in DRO mode. I believe due to hardware limitations we'll never see true hdr+, but this is still pretty good imo. I've noticed also since 8.1 all my other apps that use the camera such as Snapchat have also greatly improved in camera quality.

Possibly, from past experience the camera2 API never worked correctly on older ROMs, I didn't have to enable the API in 8.1 just enable the feature in open camera.

Second definitely looks much nicer, I'm guessing chromatix? How well does it perform in low light situations?
It's actually the Google camera hdr+. Apparently aside from extending the DR, it has some magic sauce for creating a contrasty and sharp image. The raw out of this camera doesn't look that good.
Chromatix mod makes the camera look "normal" in all other modes (ie, Snapchat and AR apps no longer have that "ghosted' sharpening thing making it ugly). Even stock app looks better. So now it's on par with other similar class camera phones, but something about the HDR+ algorithm is just magic.

That's why I have and use both. Chromatix mod makes the stock processing bearable, and gcam is when there is something print worthy that's worth the effort. Also, I'm a photographer who shoots manual focus lenses and I've got kids, I know how to work under pressure spontaneously for a good shot.
So if I understand you correctly, were you able to get both Chromatix and GCam working simultaneously? I had read that the stock camera doesn't work on Oreo and moreover Chromatix only worked on the stock ROM. If not may I ask which ROM are you using?

I think a lot of these phone's stock camera apps have issues with low light situations. And Gcam seems to solve this. But it may disable other features like slow motion video for instance. I was strongly considering buying the Galaxy A50, but the photos were really poor. That's why I was wondering about this phone. Thanks for the feedback.
The Redmi Note 7 Global version and Redmi Note 7 Pro version take great photos and videos especially with Gcam.
Bought an A70 today and I can confirm that Gcam works with HDR+ and HDR+ Enhanced. The version I'm using now only allows for 8mp though so images are smaller than from the stock camera.

I just tried the first I found after googling for one for the S10. I guess any version for Snapdragon should work theoretically. Yes RAW works. Have not changed any settings really just installed and started shooting. Will try other versions as I want to utilize 12mp instead of the 8mp this version is limited to. I have made some comparison shots in another forum if you want to see you can download full images from there and compare. Gcam has more details even though they are only 8mp compared to 12mp from stock camera. But stock camera is not as bad performer as I expected.

Wow! It really is working like a charm! RAW is working, too. Hopefully, we'll be getting manual ISO settings etc soon.
Gcam surely does wonders to the A70's camera module. Hopefully we'll be getting full 32mp support in the near future, too.

BUT it does not contain options to use the 64MP and Macro settings etc.... there are things missing in terms of all the hardware you can use.
So for now I'm using GCam if I need to take pics in normal camera mode, video and wide-lense, panorama or the amazing 360 view feature.
And use the default app for 64MP, Makro lens and slow-mo features. This version of GCam does crash on some of the options like Lens Blur, so it is not perfect.
i am very happy with the stock camera , on the latest update the quality is just fine

I'm using the same app, but I cannot find the ultra-wide lens option, I can only use the primary camera.
How to use the ultra-wide lens on the GCam app?

Ans I agree.
I tried to take pictures on low light conditions with the stock camera and compared with Google and ended up preferring the stock camera versions.
To be honest, sometimes AI overdoes things, but overall camera quality isn't bad. Even for interior pictures.

In which mode did you take the pict?
Parrot's new version is the best so far. Can't acesses the auxiliary cameras but with the right tweaks is very good.
