Buying a Pixel XL with FRP Lock - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Found a Pixel XL for sale with FRP lock, two things, should I run since this thing might be stolen, and secondly, can this be fixed with a reflash of factory image, or am I screwed if I buy this?

The frp will still show up if you reflash the factory image. I personally would not buy it.

Don't buy it. FRP is difficult/impossible to bypass.
Highly likely it was a stolen phone, likely a phone stolen from a shipment.

Frp google pixel
it can be by pass with xtc2clip very easy if u have bootloader unlocked.

WTF is FRP lock and why should anyone care?

@Tmender,
Yes, it's highly likely that it's been stolen. You should check if the IMEI has been blacklisted, at a minimum.

Factory Reset Protection from Android. Phones are now locked to the Google account that is put on them. You have to properly remove them before you sell a phone or else it won't work.

How is xtc2clip going to work with the pixel? I know HTC was the manufacturer but it isn't an HTC phone and the website says nothing about pixel support.
Edit; from Gsm-forum:
xtc2clip 12/23
Hello,
Sorry, Pixels are not supported by XTC 2 Clip.

I read that unlocked bootloader now violates Safety Net, so Android Pay won't work at present.

What kind of crap is that Google?! Jeez
How difficult is it to just let us enjoy our devices, ay?
Previously you could unlock bootloader and as long as you didn't root or hid root from certain apps you could still use Google wallet.
Same with the 6P, unlocked bootloader now breaks Android Pay.
It's the app version not the phone. There is another thread here some people withe nexus 6p if using the latest version of Android pay will trigger that, but if using an older version all is fine.

You need to complain to the banks if you want this fixed. The Banks have dictated to Google what is required to allow paying via phone as it's their loss if you report money stolen.
While I agree, I feel that with a rooted Device using SU, which requires that you allow applications to have root access. Apps cannot have root access without you granting it. And also having the card information heavily encrypted so that even if somehow a hacker gets your data via an app that you install, it would take them 1 million years to bruteforce decrypt the file, it should be safe enough, but banks are too dumb to realize this and impose their will on carriers, and google in our case. So complain to the banks, and google.

Try Depixel8?
Depixel 8 doesn't work because the bootloader won't unlock

Should we unlock the Bootloader if no root planned

If you have no plans to root the phone is there any reason to unlock the bootloader?
It would probably break Safety net and Android pay. BUT if you're unlocked, you have ability to flash factory images. That could be beneficial something goes really bad and your device won't boot up. You're also less secure with it unlocked.

You can always lock and unlock the bootloader when you want.
I would say you should at least have the option checked on in the Developer settings.
So just in case something happened and you can't fully boot the phone. you can still get into it and unlock the bootloader and do what you need to do.
This happened to a friend of mine where something happened and couldn't fully boot and couldn't unlock bootloader cause the option was never checked.
I don't believe the unlock option stays enabled after it boots up.
I would argue why WOULDN'T you unlock the bootloader? Regardless of rooting, an unlocked bootloader is a safety net for when things go south. Phone decides to bootloop tomorrow? No big deal, flash the latest images via fastboot and start from scratch.
Sure there's the counter argument of the phone being much less secure and vulnerable in the hands of a person who is tech savvy and stole/found your device. I'm not worried about my phone being stolen so I ALWAYS unlock my bootloader.

I don't understand what you mean by this.
You have to unlock the bootloader to flash a factory image and you can eliminate the w flag so that flashing the factory image won't wipe the phone.

Very true. If the phone goes into booploop due to a bad zip or whatever other reason you have a bricked device with no options to recover.
It's healthy for me to unlock my Bootloader ASAP on XDA!
Unlocking the bootloader was always the very first thing I did when I got a new phone. However, I use Android Pay all the time, and Google seems very determined to break AP for unlocked bootloaders with every new patch. Sure, someone usually finds a way to get it working again, but that sometimes takes time, and I simply use AP too much to deal with it. As long as AP won't work officially with an unlocked bootloader, mine stays locked unless I'm flashing an image, and even then, gets locked right after. Luckily, OTAs are posted by Google now, often at the same time as the Factory Images, so it hasn't really been an issue for me.

If you ever contemplate going onto the Verizon network, when you first boot up after placing VZN sim into the phone,
the ability to ever unlock again is eliminated. You could relock it, but it will have the Unlock option in Developer
Option greyed out forever after that. I would unlock it maybe because of Verizon thing, but also to be able to flash factory a image in case I ever mess up the phone.

As long as you have the Google version it should never grey out on you at least that's how it was with the first pixels. I have Verizon I've never had it grey out.

This. Android Pay is pretty convenient and I always told myself I didn't need it compared to unlock+root. Wish Google would allow AP with unlocked bootloader but I can understand why they don't from a security standpoint.

Google pay won't add cards

Just got my Pixel 3 XL yesterday, haven't done anything to it at all in terms of mods. When I try to add my credit cards to Google pay it's saying I can't make purchases with my phone because it's altered. I haven't rooted or anything. Has this happened to anyone else? I have the unlocked Google store version. Never had this problem on my Pixel 2. Thanks

I didn't actively unlock it myself but it looks like it's already been unlocked. Would I just be able to relock the bootloader via fastboot and that'll fix the problem?

Google Pixel 3 XL OEM unlocking greyed out ?

So I just got my Google pixel 3 XL straight from Google. First thing I wanted to do was root my phone. I've tried everything from restarting device and updating my phone to the latest updated ( I was told that it needs to update before OEM unlock is enabled) but still it's greyed out. Does anyone know what's going on ? I spent a lot of money to finally get an unlocked version to be able to root it.
I'm using At&t as my network.
If anyone has any input, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.
NVM saw another thread about this. Ignore.

Wondering if you have found a fix for this. I just received my RMA and also cannot unlock due to greyed out OEM Unlock. My first 3XL unlocked fine. Inserted Verizon sim, set up phone and then unlocked in Dev options. Currently Google support say there is no fix and they are looking into it. Just curious where you are in this...

OEM Unlocking Greyed Out- Pixel 3XL
I purchased a brand new Pixel 3 XL from the Google Store. In the Developer's Option, it shows that the "OEM unlocking" is greyed out. I purchased an unlocked phone. Do not understand why I am not able to unlock it. Your assistance is much appreciated.
I do not have a sim card in it. Don't see the point why I am unable to unlock it.
Bootloader version: b1c1-0.1-5004167
Product revision: crosshatch MP1.0(ROW)
Any assistance is much appreciated.

I hate to beat a dead horse here. But in my Verizon 3xl I can switch OEM locking back and forth. It even gives me a warning about unlocking it. I've never tried anything past this point cause I don't want to rework my phone from the begining. Can everyone do this ?! Why isn't mine greyed out ?
