black tinting on top screen...hardware fault or software? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Hey guys!
i am having this black tinting on top of my screen, its bugging me alot on wallpapers,
is this the software fault of the hardware. i just got my op3 last week.
i am posting the screenshot.

You can't be serious!! That's definitely software. It's not even an issue. try some launcher settings or new launchers to get rid of that shadow. FYI, If it's a hardware, it won't appear on your screenshot.

Can't really make out. But if its in the screenshot..then it's software. If it's hardware you will have to click a photograph with another camera for it to be visible

Seems like your screen got cracked after a drop. Can you make another screenshot so we can confirm the cracks as well?

great! just was confirming, thanks

Stuck pixel. There is no red in your screenshot. I do see some white pixels where they don't belong, however.
Does this happen on KTU84P?
Hmm on my screen the blobs are red and not white. Is there s way fix this? I am on 4.4.4 BTW Cleanrom.

Oh, does it use the navbar from the 5.0 preview?
You might try something like this? https://play.google.com/store/search?q=stuck pixel&hl=en I have no idea if it will help, though.

No I changed the navbar myself. And do you think I should RMA this?

Anyone know if this is something Google will fix using the warranty?
I have the exact same problem except I have it in the top right corner and I notice it on darker backgrounds , as far as I know their is no way to fix it because I think it is a hardware issue

Yes they will, but the process goes like this. Contact to get RMA, they of course try troubleshooting first ( which is basically factory reset), when that doesn't work, they inform you that you need to order a replacement which they will send you a special link to order. You order it with a credit card, they place a hold for the amount of the new unit, they send it to you and you return the defective one and they release the hold. You receive a brand new unit, not a refurbished one. As long as you have relocked your bootloader and flashed the stock ROM (assuming you did at all) all will be good. I have not had any touch problems with my replacement or pink spots appearing.

How to change sharpness/contrast?

So I decided to get an LG3 and so far I am pretty satisfied. However I can't change the contrast/sharpness. I am getting the feeling that this is intentional. Or am I missing something?

Man... I was hoping G3Tweaks would fix that, but alas it doesn't. Is there any other way? May a good app?

We would need a custom kernel before that would be possible.

Strange - a couple of people said you could adjust it but I don't see any settings for that either.

Color balance issues and a few others

I finally got my new OP3 but I've noticed some color shifting when tilting the phone. Is this normal? Also I need help with something else. I want to completely remove lockscreen wallpaper on oxygen OS, so that it shows my home screen wallpaper. I'm rooted and I've tried deleting the keyguard wallpaper files, but all it does is show me a black screen unlike on the OP2. Can someone help?
1) there is no colour shifting on my op3, do you have a tempered screen guard on your phone?
2) when on oxygen os launcher long press on empty area of your home screen and select the lock screen wallpaper from there. its annoying that everytime you have to switch to oneplus launcher to change lockscreen wallpaper.
Isn't it possible to straight up get rid of it? I remember doing it on the OP2. By uninstalling the keyguard wallpaper file in system/users. But it keeps coming back after a black screen... And about the color balance, it only appears if I tilt my phone, which I read is a common problem with AMOLED screens all over. Can you confirm?

The only way is to set the same wallpapers for homescreen and lockscreen, there is no way to get rid of the wallpaper so you'll have to do it manually.

I've updated my reply a bit bro. And one final thing, I've noticed a slight lag after rooting it, is that normal too?

Ok. I'll give that a try and report back... Thanks for you prompt response. Do you suggest I request a replacement if the issue persists?

Homescreen shadow

Hello folks,
anyone noticed this gradient grayish shadow on top and bottom of homescreen? It makes display appear less bright. Do we know of any way to remove it?
Anyone?

Wow, really?! :fingers-crossed: :good: :victory:
The thing is, I don't want another launcher. I'm asking for solution, not workaround.

Did you really need to be rude? I was trying to help you and this is your thanks ha.
There is no workaround, this is why I recommended another launcher. Be polite to the ones that spends their times to help you.
Sorry, but you answer was irrelevant to the question.

Question Black crush on custom roms

I haven't seen this question answered anywhere. If we assume correctly that black crush is software issue, does it mean custom roms shouldn't have it? Has anyone who tried one can confirm that this is the case?
it isn't fixed in custom ROM's either man.

Hmm, someone posted here that it is https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...een-mi-11-lite-v12-0-11.4285165/post-85377041
EDIT: Wait, that was you. So it isn't fixed after all?
nope, but using the screen balance app will do the trick for now

Using another app to fix screen problems is not a good solution. This probably means that it's actual hardware issue, which is sad

Did you try playing a video with dark scenes? I barely had any issues with lockscreen, mainly on apps like youtube.
it's easier actually, just open a pic perfect black with something shiny/colored, and then zoom in and out, watch the black around that white/color. "works" for me on max brightness to replicate it.
the custom roms make it much less visible compared to miui though, and reducing the brightness to something sensible is always a good idea. on auto brightness i can't see it ever.
it's probably a hardware issue or smth in the display driver. but tbh it's not a big deal during every day use.

Yeah, it isn't a big issue or I would return it and buy the phone I wanted before this (Note 10 pro). But the fact is, there is an issue and it's sad that they allowed it to happen to upper midrange phone.
